Blood and Darkness
OOC:To start, this RP will only consist of myself, Aeraldi, and Phal (if she decides to join.)
Bahamut was looming over a corpse of a dragon he had just slain. The area he was in was filled with dead bodies, both dragon and elvish. Great trees of the Du Weldenvarden were in flames. Bahamut looked at his claws, which were blood stained. His fangs driped off remaineders of flesh. What is my purpose?
Bahamut awoke violently. It was a dream, more closer to nightmare. Why does the past torment me? Is it what because I am. A monster of the world rejected by it's inhabitants... Damned to murder and to be alone. This is all I knew.. my bloodthirst is everlasting. Still, after 50 millenia I tried to rid myself of such a feeling. To supress it... However it seems it is in vain. The world today is no different. The balance is merely shifted.
Bahamut left his cave to fly and tried to clear his mind. He wandered south, towards Surda. What is my purpose?

Re: Blood and Darkness
Nilarek breathed the new air, smelling the scents that were carried as he had not in a very long time. The world seemed different, though it still disgusted him beyond reason. He had to thank Derek for the body, the power it had granted him. He felt like a new being, as he had when he had first taken over Cain. It was invigorating. Nilrek had done away with his heart already, having enough strength to continue holding all his power and more. He decided to place it somewhere else though, somewhere where nobody would normally look. Someplace that meant a lot to his host. He shook his head of the thought, reveling in his new powers.
A new scent was carried on the air now, something new, but old as well. I know that smell, Bahamut. He realized. Maybe this time, maybe now that I have enough power... Plans began to form within his head, plans that made sure he would be strong. You will be mine, the fates have delivered you to me and I will reap the benefits. The shadow within his veins pulsed, eager to consume. He had to make sure Bahamut came to him though, a reason to come. "One annihilated village coming up." He said to himself as he looked at village that Derek had originated from. He gathered his energies, felt it course through his veins, pulled as much as he could until it started hurting. Then he released it upon the village, sending waves of fire and chunks of molten rocks at houses. As he walked through the village of flames, the stopped by the blacksmith. He needed a sword and here was as good as anyplace. He listened to the chorus of dying scream and the pleading to the skies for Derek to come and save them. He laughed at the irony. As the smoke bellowed into the air, he knew Bahamut would come. How could he not?

Re: Blood and Darkness
Bahamut was still flying when a new scent alerted him. Blood.. Becoming interested, he began to fly where the source was. Moments later he saw a burning village. At that point he could sense no life. Almost out of instinct, Bahamut landed in the center of the town. The smell of sulfur and blood caused him to have flashbacks of his murderous past. Shaking his head, he looked around. It didnt seem like there was a battle here...it was more like a masacre.

Re: Blood and Darkness
As Bahamut landed in the middle of the village, Nilarek saw his chance. Though he wondered how to proceed, there were two ways he could go. Corrupt him now, without consent which would make the takeover a little more difficult. Or he could persuade the mighty dragon. Either was risky, a chance that Bahamut could turn on him. He decided to try the persuasion method first, he could use the other if this didn't work. "Bahamut, welcome." Nilarek moved out of the smoke and into the light, revealing his new body. "I trust you are well?" He had found out that civility often got him more than being hostile. Even if he was stronger than the other.

Re: Blood and Darkness
Bahamut was thinking when he heard a snake-like voice. He turned to see that it was a shade. At first he didnt know who he was, then he sniffed the air and recognized the shade's scent. Nilarek.. What are you doing here? Are you the one who killed all these people? Bahamut knew that he didnt have the right to justify the shades means. He himself was blood-stained from a long time ago. Still, he couldnt help but feel disgusted. What do you want from me?

OOC: I shall join in a few posts. I want to wait for a better time. I think I'll join with Rigel first... He needs to do something by himself for a while. Unless you really want me to bring Phal in.

Re: Blood and Darkness
"To answer that," Nilarek began, pacing along the ground to stand in front of Bahamut. "I have to begin with why I am here." When he was facing the large dragon, he leaned back onto an invisible flow of shadow magic that kept him in a relaxed position. "I am here because, as you have no doubt noticed, to hold a different body. The body I was residing in was too weak and I needed another. I found this one. With that power, I was able to channel more of the Shadow Realm than before. Which brings me to you." Throughout the talk, Nilarek didn't lessen his smile an inch. Nor did he move from his position, leaning back on an invisible post. "I destroyed this village, I take full responsibility. But it's reasons were different that what you might expect." Now the gamble began, to spin truth with lies in such a way that you couldn't tell what was which. "I felt so alive after the transformation, I had to try out my new powers. So I began using them on this village, seeing just how much I could draw. That was when I felt your presence, for you see, you and I are connected via an invisible bond. I first noticed it upon my transformation, when I could finally feel the world around me again." Things going smoothly so far, "A power so beyond us that it linked us together through our scuffles, and through our works together. You keep wondering whether you are a monster, when you only look at yourself through the eyes of these lesser beings. I see you for what you are now, simply misunderstood." Nilarek stood up again and moved closer to Bahamut. He was surprised by the guile of his own words. This union of his new body had certainly provided more that he had dreamed. "I see you are powerful beyond reason, that you are on a different level to the rest of the world. I can feel that you are so confused and angry that people won't give you the answers you seek. I offer to you the answers that have so long eluded you, without bias or side-stepping." He was only a few steps from Bahamut now, though he didn't feel intimidated by his size. He just stood there, looking up at Bahamut.

Re: Blood and Darkness
Bahamut wasnt sure why, but he seemed to understand Nilarek was saying. Oddly he felt that his words were reassuring. He wasnt sure why he just had thing feeling. An invisible bond...? Why is it that I never noticed it before? Bahamut sat down, cross-legged so that he look at Nilarek more directly. I just could never understand what I was meant for...what my true purpose was. All I have known is to destroy all those who have rejected me. Now after so long for being imprisioned. I dont know what to do anymore. Bahamut closed his eyes as he thought about his past. All the blood he has shed. He subconsciously looked at his claws, still thinking it was covered in it. This is all I am known for.

Re: Blood and Darkness
"Maybe, but that is because none know the suffering you had to go through." Nilarek reached his hand out to touch Bahamut softly on his leg. "You have a right to be angry at those who imprisoned you, they tortured you for near an eternity. The spirits I hold within me know that feeling. When they are snared by those who hold magic, they are being forced against their will to do things that are near torturous to them. So when the user breaks under the will of the spirits, the spirits exact their revenge and take away the person's free will. You on the other hand, you were deprived of your life. They sealed you up and made you live out your life in isolation, they knew what that would do to a dragon." The words flowed from Nilarek with ease, sounding from the heart. The problem now was changing the subject to the shadow realm, to give light to a realm of infinite darkness. "I've never told anyone this, but when Keralin gave himself over to the Shadow Realm he was given me. When he did, I could feel the mind of Keralin and I knew his pain. I was there for Keralin all the time, someone to talk to for him. I grew to like him actually, I began to think that I might fight for him and not just beside him." Nilarek's tone grew cold and hard then, "Then when he forcefully removed me and sent me to the farthest reaches of the planet, I felt so.... Betrayed. He knew I was ready to give my all for him and he got rid of me as soon as he could! I was furious. He took my power and threw it away without even a 'thank you'! Yet, when I try to make him feel the betrayal I had to endure, they call me evil." He looked back at Bahamut, hoping the words got through to him. "So, who is the evil one in my story?" He question was rhetorical, but it conveyed what Nilarek's meaning was. Who was the evil one in Bahamut's story?

Re: Blood and Darkness
Bahamut looked curiously at Nilarek. He was implying who was the evil one in his past. Everyone. It all began when I was a hatchling. Everyone in my clan thought I was an abomination to the race and I would curse us all to extinction. Not even my parents accepted me. They always favored my older brother. Not suprisingly we got into several fights. Eventually one day it got out of hand and I killed him. From then on I was shunned from the clan...exiled to be alone. I had to survive for many years by myself. Defending myself from other clans without any other help. When I became full size, it was about of the time when the war between the elves and the dragons had began. I thought I could redeem myself by fighting. Unfortunately, the war was a catalyst for my anger. I became obsessed....killing anyone, dragon or elf. I continued to do so for years. Even after the war I still murdered. I wiped out entire clans of my own kin... dozens of houses of elves. I became a terror to both races. In their new pact, they both formed together to imprison me. They thought killing me would not be enough punishment. What they wanted is to torment me for eternity. For 50 millenia I was in the dark alone...not being able to eat or sleep. At that point I was insane. One day I absolutely snapped and broke out of the great seal. Now here I stand today...freed, but haunted by my past. Yet elves and dragons are not easy to forget. So today I am still hunted.

Re: Blood and Darkness
"You didn't know anything else." Nilarek was happy to find out more about Bahamut's past. "How were you to know anything if they didn't teach you? You only did what you believed was right. As for killing the rest, I will readily admit that I have gotten carried away in something I have done. And for your anger, it can be controlled you just need the right motivation." Now, this was the perfect time. "I've let my anger consume me and every time I had, I hurt more than ever. I found that the way to control my anger," He looked at his arm, or at least beneath the surface of it, "was the shadow realm. In allowed me to use my vast power to control my anger. While it isn't the perfect method to control myself, it is the best method I currently know." Now he had to wait to see if Bahamut would ask.

Bahamut was silent for some time. Then he asked, How did you aquire it...? I would really wish to know. If it would help me... I suppose I can try whatever it would take. He saw Nilarek smile for a moment then almost seemingly hid it away a moment later. Then there was silence once more. Bahamut waited for Nilarek's response.

Re: Blood and Darkness
Nilarek almost cursed himself for letting him slip up like that, he had to be more careful. Even if everything was going according to plan. "All you need to do is accept the power from the Shadow Realm into your body. Then, focus your strength with the power of your mind." Nilarek sighed slightly, feigning deep thought. "Then, the power will... It will help you control your emotions... So you can feel them but.." He shook his head and said plainly. "It's hard to explain. You can feel the emotions passing through you but they don't affect your mind. Here, I can explain better once you have had a taste." Nilarek took out a knife from his belt, a small but sharp knife. He ran it across his arm, letting the blood flow from it. He wiped his hand across it, smearing his hand with blood and also the shadow corruption that came with it. "This amount of the Shadow Realm is easy to control and won't affect your mind too much. Just don't be swept away by the corruption of power and you can control it. It's a constant struggle between forcing control of the power and letting it sweep you away. I'm sure a being like you could handle yourself though. Just touch it on your body and you will feel it instantaneously."

Re: Blood and Darkness
Bahamut looked at Nilarek for a long time. Then he glanced at his hand. Not waiting any longer, Bahamut reached out a finger and touched Nilarek's hand. The shadow energy swirled around his finger and then injected itself in his arm. Bahamut recoiled his arm slightly as it became numb. He groaned as it spread throughout his body and then it finally reached his mind. Grunting, feeling nothing at first. Then he felt energy surge through his body as the shadow magic swelled within him. He felt a tingling sensation as a dark aura surrounded him. He stood up and his body changed slightly. His black scales now had a purplish hue to them and his brown-yellow under-body scales turned gray. His eyes turned from a dark yellow to a deep blue.
His body had never felt so alive. Bahamut looked himself over, his put his claws out and inspected them. Clenching them, power surged through them.
This is amazing... I feel so alive.

Re: Blood and Darkness
OOC: Alright, time to enter!
IC: Rigel shifted his weight nervously, inching forward until he could just see the land through a small hole in the cave wall. All seemed clear, but he could sense the shadows nearby. He was not nervous about shadows; far from it; but he knew that wherever darkness was, those who fought it would not be far away. Rigel was afraid of fighting them as of yet; still weak and not at his full strength. After the Wars had gone badly for him, and caused him the need to regenerate, he had hidden himself in the caves deep beneath the earth to recover and regain his memories. He now remembered nearly everything; but his strength had not yet returned in full.
The dark phoenix knew the presence of darkness below quite well; it was Nilarek, one of the instigators of the War. Nilarek, it seemed, had found a new host and regained much strength. Good for him, the phoenix growled sarcastically, annoyed that he still had to wait. He had noticed another below as well; a large dragon. Rigel knew his name to be Bahamut, but little else. He remembered a few stories he had heard many thousands of years ago, about a violent dragon that had been imprisoned.
Rigel glanced around the area, making sure there were no others. Satisfied, he found a larger exit and made his way out of the cave, deciding to find out what had happened in his absence.

Re: Blood and Darkness
It was done. Bahamut had taken the shadow corruption into his own body at his own will and Nilarek could barely stop himself from shaking with excitement. He healed his hand, thinking while Bahamut tested his new strength. The strength will blossom within him until... Until his power outshines my own. Nilarek thought for a second, But by that time, he won't want to hurt me for any reason. "Remember, don't let it sweep you away or will end up like those beasts I command." Nilarek said, surprised at his own words. Train him, keep him safe. Instructions from the other side made Nilarek shudder with pleasure and fear at the same time. The feeling of pure terror coursing through Nilarek matched by the absolute pleasure that came from hearing the voice that should be his. Show him the power, show him his true potential. Nilarek understood, and he knew where to start. The same place he did. "I can teach you how to channel that power, to it's complete potential. Would you like to learn?"
He had not noticed the Phoenix yet, his attention still completely on Bahamut and his transformation.

Bahamut took a moment to remember this feeling and then realize Nilarek was speaking to him. There was silence at first then Bahamut shook his head in agreement. Yes, I would like to learn. But you can forget having me call you master. Bahamut sat back down cross-legged.

Re: Blood and Darkness
Rigel opened his wings, deciding to approach the pair. He wasn't sure what to think of their meeting. Had Nilarek pulled in another ally to the Shadow Realms? Rigel was slightly annoyed, wondering why the shade had not thought of garnering this powerful enemy before the war. The phoenix was sure that he would have remembered such details and possibly advantages. In truth, though, he was frustrated that all of his efforts had still gone to waste, despite his clever planning and his work.
He flapped his feathery wings, propelling himself off the hillside and down towards the ruined town. He reached a suitable landing site shortly and perched on a pile of rubble near the dark shade and the large dragon. Greetings Nilarek and Bahamut. I hope I do not intrude, he announced in a solemn voice.

Re: Blood and Darkness
"I understand perfectly." Nilarek said, actually understanding the need not to call someone 'master'. "Now, the first thing is..." Greetings Nilarek and Bahamut. I hope I do not intrude. A familiar voice said to them. Nilarek was annoyed slightly at the fact that he was interrupted, but when he saw who it was he suddenly had a new idea. Well, an old idea made new. Corrupt them all. Make them mine. Nilarek turned to Rigel, smiling widely. "Not at all Rigel, I was hoping you weren't completely defeated." He turned back to face Bahamut once again, "I am teaching Bahamut to control the power of the Shadow Realm." He turned his head to Rigel, keeping his body facing Bahamut. "Would you like to join us?"

Bahamut saw another had joined them and took little interest. Becoming slightly impatient he subconciously began shaking his right leg. The shadow was surgin within him, eager to be used and exploited for whatever dark purposes. Bahamut began to grow bored as Nilarek was distracted with the newcomer.

Re: Blood and Darkness
Rigel's eyes narrowed as Nilarek asked if he wished to join them. I will certainly stay here for a time, but do not think you can put your shadows into me. I was not impressed with their performance in the war enough to give myself to them, and my mission is not complete yet, he said to the dark shade, his voice wary and cautioning. He turned to glance at the huge Bahamut. It seems as if your charge is impatient. Best commense your training again, he noted with a disinterested tone.

Re: Blood and Darkness
"I wouldn't count him as that," Nilarek said, looking from Rigel to Bahamut. "you are merely reborn again and I have to teach you how to walk before you harm yourself. And I wouldn't count the Shadow Realm out now, we are learning more about how to exploit your world every day." He let the words hang in the air before continuing. "Now, Bahamut, the first thing to do is to open yourself to it as if you were reaching for magic or to use your fire. Then you need to create a control within the realm-" Nilarek guided Bahamut in the creation of an entity within the shadow realm to harvest the energy for Bahamut. Then showed Bahamut how to channel the energy from the shadow realm. Nilarek told Bahamut of the balance between the worlds, that there were two things needed to increase your power within the Shadow realm. The first being the portal within, the portal that was opened when he came into contact with his own blood. The wider the more energy could be channeled. The second being that the entity created could be used to enslave others of the shadow realm, as well as controlling them to kill the others. Having more power generated in the shadow realm was key, though it meant squat if you couldn't get it back to this realm and having a portal too large made it feel like agony when you couldn't use it to it's full potential.
"Strength comes in time, the portal needs you to work on it." Nilarek finished. "Just remember, the more of yourself you use to create your entity is the less of you that can resist the pull of the shadow realm. Keralin had near a hundred years to consolidate his, and I have such power because I am the entity that was created." He wondered about the wisdom of explaining the shadow realm to Rigel, when he didn't have any corruption, but realized that he wouldn't have any use for such knowledge otherwise. Even if he did say it to everyone he met. Or so I hope.

Re: Blood and Darkness
Once Nilarek began his instruction, Bahamut listened intently. He followed along to the best of his ability and practiced along with him. At first he struggled with control to the Shadow Realm, but he pushed as much as he could. After he let the shadows flow through him freely, he could feel an aura surround him. A stream of darm matter orbited him in a cross-x pattern continuously. It feels like the shadows are alive in me...as if I am a host for them. As long I am their host, they will serve me. Is that my understanding?

Re: Blood and Darkness
Rigel shook his head. The Shadow Realms are powerful, but I do not wish to sacrifice my directives to uncertainty. So far the shadows have failed to accomplish anything of true significance, the phoenix replied. He remained silent for the rest of Bahamut's tutelage, observing for himself the intricacies of controlling and directing the shadows. The large dragon did seem more powerful, but Rigel didn't want so much power. If he gave himself to the shadows, he would no longer be able to decieve others of his true nature. He would no longer be able to fulfill his own goals unless they benefited the shadows in some way, or at least not as freely.

Re: Blood and Darkness
Nilarek was able to answer Bahamut before Rigel spoke again. "The Shadows are alive, you've demonstrated control far quicker than I would have thought." He cleared his throat before continuing. "As long as you hold control over the shadows, they are your servant. As for your being a host, I wouldn't call it that. It's a... difficult relationship." Nilarek had never really thought of the intricacies of the Shadow Realm, he had just accepted it. "By now, you should be aware of me in a new way. Something that tells you that there is something familiar about me. That would be the Shadow Corruption you feel within me. You will be able to feel it within other creatures too, but the range of knowing comes with time."
When Rigel spoke next, Nilarek stared icy daggers at him. "I would be careful what you say next, Phoenix. The Shadow Realm has had much more significance than you have seen. You think that my portal was the only one? You think that because of these meddlesome..." He couldn't think of a worse enough word in this language, so he used one from his own realm, almost spitting out the word. "Kalrakatch that we are beaten?" The word came from the back of Nilarek's throat, making it seem as if the language had no place in this world. "We are never beaten, simply delayed. My power is greater now, and new plans are already falling into place." Nilarek, for some reason, thought of himself as standing on the edge of a knife then. He had to jump off on one side before the blade underneath him cut him in half. Which side though? Which path would he take?

Re: Blood and Darkness
Rigel laughed coldly. Oh, I do not doubt the power of the Shadow Realms. Indeed they cannot be beaten or subdued for long. However, I simply have more faith in my own abilities to actually get things done, he replied to the dark shade, hissing out the last part. Though he did not have nearly the power of the dark realm, he did have, in his opinion, more skillfullness in plotting and carrying out plots to completion. He decided to keep his further opinions to himself, however; if he wanted to learn more, it would be best to refrain from insulting the Shadow Realms, intentionally or unintentionally.

Re: Blood and Darkness
"Very well. If you must know, I will tell you." Nilarek said to Bahamut. He did deserve to know his plans now, he wouldn't be able to protest them. But Rigel... "Well I didn't see you help the Portal when it was in danger, all I saw was you fighting that dragon who associates with the stars." She didn't deserve her name to be spoken. "Now Bahamut, my plans are as such; Corrupt everything. Make sure that everything is against those who call themselves 'good'. Your blood now contains the Corruption that mine does and you can force others to your own will." And to mine. He thought silently. "There are those powerful in this world and some of them are capable of corruption. The second, I was thinking, will be the one who calls himself Retribution. He may be a rider and strong in magic, but he does not have the experience with the Shadow Realm or Dark magic. He will not be able to remove his corruption no matter how hard he tries. If you know others, make sure that you corrupt them, by choice or by force matters not." Nilarek drew his knife once again and ran it across his right arm once again, making a deep wound which bled profusely. He put his knife away and soaked his left hand within the blood until his hand couldn't be seen underneath the blood and shadow. He spoke in the tongue of Shadow again, the words reverberating in the air with the touch of evil. "I call upon the blood, I call upon the Shadow and I call upon myself. Bring the people who are corrupted, bring the Spirits that are corrupted, and bring the Shades who serve." When he was done talking, the blood on his hand steamed and evaporated until his hand was clean once again. Bahamut would understand the words, now that he had the Shadows within him but Rigel wouldn't. He faced the Phoenix again, breathing in and out as if he had exerted himself. "Last chance, are you sure you don't want the power of worlds? The control over yourself that allows you to ignore pain, anger, and pride?" Jump off the left side of the knife. It was time once again.

Re: Blood and Darkness
Bahamut blinked and thought to himself quietly. Then he stood up with his eyes closed. To Corrupt.. So be it. Bahamut faced the Phoenix. You should accpet the offer.... Bahamut walked right to right in front of the Phoenix. For those who do not join the Shadow freely and accept the great power... Bahamut's voice became seperated, as if two voices at once were speaking. ...Shall become corrupted by the Shadow forcefully and become a mindless slave.. Bahamut snatched the Phoenix's neck. His claw was so large that it fit around the neck completely and spread onto the shoulders. Darkness seeped from Bahamut's claws as it attempted to invade a new host.
You should reconsider, Bahamut said in his new "voice", if you do it willingly, you can least do as you wish. Or...I will force the shadows into you and it will ravage your body and you will be lucky to have a mind left.
The world started in darkness...and it will end in it. I was nothing before Nilarek showed me the truth. Now I have a purpose...and I intent to fulfill it. Bahamut became impatient waiting for a response. He turned his head to Nilarek, Heh if he is like this...perhaps it would be better if I kill him. Do you agree?OOC:Hehe, theres a nice twist.

Re: Blood and Darkness
OOC: "Makin' friends. Everywhere we go, makin' friends." ~Sid IC: Rigel didn't reply to Nilarek's accusations. He had his reasons. In his opinion, killing the starry dragon was equally important to keeping a shadow portal open, perhaps even more so. He watched the rest of the ritual, slightly interested and curious. However, he knew it wasn't his place to ask about it, at least to them. He could investigate some of what he saw later.
Rigel frowned at the dark shade, about to reply, when the large dragon snatched him into the air. The phoenix screeched in indignation, his old hatred towards dragons rising into his mind. This is how dragons solve everything; through violence! Oh, you will certainly make a good pawn of the Shadow Realm, Bahamut, he hissed. The claws tightened, and Rigel could feel the darkness pressing on him. Despite all he was, and all he wanted, he did not want the darkness. Despite the fact that any other creature would consider him evil, Rigel still valued his free will and freedom, and would cast off the shadows for only that reason. He could not accept the darkness.
The phoenix screeched again, an eerie, penetrating sound. His body dissolved into freezing, blue-white fire. The dragon's claw was covered in frost as Rigel sank away through it, coming out and rematerializing on the other side. He hovered, watching Bahamut warily. It takes more than force to convince me, dragon, he growled, particular vehemence in his voice when he hissed "dragon."

Re: Blood and Darkness
Nilarek watched with pleasure as Bahamut grabbed the phoenix and began to corrupt him, but as Rigel struggled it was certain that he didn't know the entirety of his power. Nilarek severed his hands off from the wrist with magic, using magic to draw the blood out from him. "It takes me." Nilarek said coldly, adjusting the magic to send whatever blood he could draw from himself to splatter over the phoenix. Rigel would be his, willingly or no. Nilarek kept a strong hold over the magic, using the focus that came from the shadow realm to make sure that the magic he used without words would go where he intended it to go. Not to mention that Derek's memories helped with that also. "Accept the Shadow, or it will consume you."
