Post The Reincarnation
This is just a story I'm coming up with. I might not update for a while, because I've just barely started to come up with the plot. I don't think it's very good, but maybe that's just me being modest lol.

Chapter 1- Shattered Night

Victor had slipped to bed at ten, and now it was nearly midnight, but sleep would not come. He couldn't get over the fact that something strange was going to happen that night.

But nothing can possibly happen right now, which means that I can go to sleep, he thought.

You know exactly what's going to happen, a small, cold voice said inside his head.

Victor bolted upright in bed as the voice hit him like icy water.

What's going on? he thought, a little disconcerted. He felt his body start to heat up, but the temperature in the room started to turn frosty, and his body started to become less responsive. He could barely breathe, and when he tried to speak, he found that he couldn't because his throat seemed to have turned into a tight knot. He felt sweat start to bead his forehead, but it felt like it was freezing in place. His watch started to beep: it was midnight. Or was it? The watch did not stop its beeping, and it started to sound eerie, like a horrible chant at a funeral. He looked down at it with difficulty, and saw that it was blank. It seemed as if time had stopped in the small space of time it takes for it to become midnight.
Then, all at once, images started flashing through his head. Some depicted strange battles, others were of beatiful sceneries, but none of them were familiar or even seemed to be from his time period.

The next image that flashed into his head did not go away. It glued itself to his mind, as if it wanted to remain tattoed to his thoughts forever. He saw a dark sky, starting to redden from the sunset, and below it, there were bodies strewn everywhere the eye could see, all of them dead. The ground they lay on was cracked and trampled. It seemed as if a battle had raged here for a very long time. Only two figures were alive, and they were still fighting. One seemed slightly familiar; it almost looked like him, with those same determined eyes ablaze, the dark hair, and he fought witht the same styled Victor had always imagined himself in. He was thin, but his muscles were well defined. The other one wasn't quite as recognizable. He was more bulky, and apparently stronger, but he was having a hard time keeping up with his opponent. Victor's attention was drawn to the dead body at his feet. His eyes widened with horror, and he would have gasped if his throat wasn't tied. The body looked horribly like Melissa, the girl he had loved since the sixth grade. Now he was seventeen, but he still loved her, and seeing her like that hurt him in more ways than he could say or would ever bother to explain. He started to feel a great anger rise, and a feeling of revenge nearly overcame him. He knew one of them had killed her, and he knew which one. It was obviously the bulkier one. Victor could almost see the malice in the stranger's eyes. He heard words coming out of the stranger's mouth, but his anger blocked them out.

The image died away, leaving the horrible image of Melissa dead imprinted in his mind, but he felt it more horribly in his heart. The temperature in the room and his body returned to normal, and his watch stopped beeping. It was finally midnight. Stretching out his tall body, he got up and changed clothes. With revenge on his mind and with a demeanor full of determination, he quietly exited the door and stepped out into the dark, cold night.

kind of short, but they will get longer later.

Post Re: The Reincarnation
here's chapter 2- The Storm

Victor opened the gate that led out of his house as quietly as he could. He took one look back at the house, and for a moment wondered what was going to happen to his old life, but he shut that thought away instantly. He continued to walk quietly on the cement sidewalk, even though there was no need to continue being so silent. He felt like someone was watching his progress, eager for him to move on and step into a new place.

Victor was tall, not entirely through legs or torso, but both. He was thin and slender, but had noticeable muscle in his body. He had dark brown eyes, thick eyebrows, a long nose, and a rather handsome, oval face.

His heart started to beat faster as he neared Melissa's house. It was only about two blocks away, and he had been walking rather fast. He looked to his sides all the time, taking in the sight of all the houses he had grown so accustomed to. Perhaps he would not ever see them again in his life, and he appreciated this last moment of farewell.

He turned left on the last street that led to her house, walking more slowly now. A few feet away, it seemed to him as if her house was receiving all the moonlight, and everything else was covered with a thick blanket of darkness. Now he was almost walking blindly towards it. Victor finally reached the front of her house, and was about to go in when he felt a strange prescence within him stop him.

It felt as if someone else was controlling him, and for a moment he felt an alien prescence inside him. But it wasn't quite so strange... it was a prescence much like him. He walked towards a tree in front of her house, and started to slowly climb up to a branch. He situated himself comfortably where he could observe the house and sat there, waiting...
Before anything else happened, he felt the prescence merge within him, and it settled down, lending him a strange power that lay within. He felt it, but it was just out of his grasp, and he could not use it.

Then he looked up to see the door opening. Out came Melissa, and Victor's eyes shined. She looked scared, though. Maybe the same thing had just happened to her. She looked up at the tree almost as soon as she came out, and gave him a questioning look. Victor shrugged and beckoned her towards him. He was acting more confidently than he felt, but then again he knew what was going to happen.

Melissa was very tall, but Victor had always been surprised to see her slightly below him. Maybe it was because he never really grasped how tall he really was. She had long, black hair that fell down nearly to her waist. Her eyes were a deep blue, and they seemed to sparkle a lot. Her face was round, beautiful and usually cheerful, but today it was more troubled than he had ever seen it.

How he knew that it would soon rain, and that the storm would take him somewhere very far, he did not know. How he knew that events that could change everything in his life would start to happen was beyond him, but he felt a fierce thirst for revenge and determination start to cover his senses and give him an energy that propelled him to do anything imaginable. In reality, he knew that even this could fail him if he wasn't careful, but for now he was content to express himself in this way.

Then, a drop of water fell on his nose, and a lot more immediately followed. Soon it was raining hard, and everything started to get drenched, with beatiful droplets trickling down from evey plant through their graceful curves. The sky was darker than he had ever seen it, pitch black, but the moon was shining through more brightly than ever. The moon's light shone on the drops of water that littered every surface, making everything look like it was covered in tiny, oval crystals. He felt himself start to get very wet, but it didn't feel cold. It felt good and made him feel confident and powerful. The sight of everything was beatiful, and he couldn't quite grasp it all to put it in words and explain it. All he knew was that he had never seen anything like it, and he had been in plenty of storms before. But this one was different, it was like a dream, a fantasy.

Lightning could be seen in the distance, and the thunder seemed loud and unreal. The light from the lightning cast deep shadows all around him. He could still see a lot in a beatiful screen of water drops, but half was becoming a dark, deep shadow. He could not help feel a little fear. The wind started to howl, and it rustled the leaves in a way that made the shadows seem like they would rise and turn into huge beasts.

Melissa walked closer to him, shaking and with fear etched clearly in her face. She had been looking at him the whole time, and he finally looked back at her, straight in the eyes.

"Do you know what's going to happen?" Victor asked her.

She nodded nervously. "Yes."

"Then let's go," he said. With one last look at everything, he grabbed Melissa's hand and turned his gaze up at the sky. A single bolt of lighting shot down and hit them both. For a split second, he was aware of being bathed in its light, then all was black.

lol I don't have long coming to this topic either, until I saw some good stories and I got inspired.

Chapter 3- Unexpected attack

Victor did not close his eyes throughout the whole time. He wanted to have them open when he first looked out at the new place he would be going to. He felt a great excitement start to swell within him. Now the full implications of what was happening were starting to hit him, and his excitement started to grow.
The darkness stayed for about ten seconds, and then it started to slowly evaporate. Soon he was staring at a strange and apparently very old room. It had the appearance of a storage room, and at his feet lay six swords. The walls were made of old wood, but as he ran his fingers through them he felt their strong firmness. Then he turned to Melissa.
"So are-" he was cut off as she disappeared, seemingly just vanished into thin air. He stared at the space where she had just been, mouth slightly open.
Then a strange creature appeared in front of him. It was bigger than any person he had ever seen, about three feet bigger than anyone, with green skin and black spots. It had the appearance of a reptile that stood on two feet. Its head was slightly jutted out forward, with striking white stripes along the cheeks. Both its feet and hands had fingers with long, serrated claws on one end and extremely sharp on the other. It stood there and looked at him with dark, small eyes. Then, so fast that Victor almost couldn't see it, it lunged at him.
I didn't think this kind of thing would happen so soon, he thought, a little angry that he had received no warning. He threw himself to one side and just managed to escape being stabbed by the sharp point of its claws. He quickly half-ran, half-stumbled over to where the swords lay. He had absolutely no experience with those weapons, but they were probably all he had.
All of them were slightly different, with different colored hilts. He automatically took the one with the red hilt. It had a slightly curved edge, in a style that pleased him. As soon as he picked it up, he knew he would have to improvise greatly with it: it was a lot heavier than anything he carried for long.
He continued to run in circles, trying to get a good feel of the sword. It felt strangely familiar, but he still knew nothing of battle techniques with it. He started to slowly get it in a good position for a stab. The creature was pretty fast, but luckily it didn't have any sort of unnatural, blinding speed that he could never compare to, so he could evade it. Just barely, but it was possible for him. It was apparently starting to get annoyed.
When Victor thought he had the sword ready, he let the creature near him more, then, holding the sword with both hands, he let his body legs bend beneath him so he dodged the monster's slash, then pushed his hands forward, plunging the sword straight into the monster's stomach, while at the same time pushing himself in between its legs to end up behind him. He heard the monster shriek with pain, and its scream sounded eerie and made the hairs on the back of Victor's neck stand on end. The creature turned around, stumbling a little and with the sword still stuck in its stomach. Victor looked behind it to see if he could get to another sword, but they were gone.
The creature charged at him once more, with a terrible rage burning in its eyes. Mesaraih fell over to the side, holding himself up with one hand, and as fast as he could drew the sword back from the creature's stomach. It was well planted in, so he was only able to loosen it out a little, but he was glad to see the monster hiss with pain again. However, Victor had put himself in a bad position, and this time he was unable to evade the monster. It slashed at him again, and Victor rolled to the side, but he was against the wall and couldn't go far. He grimaced with pain as the creature's serrated edged caught him on the arm and the side of his leg, but he didn't yell. The pain was intense, but he didn't want to yell out just yet.
The creature had stubled forward a little, and Victor pulled at its leg, making it topple to the ground. It fell on its back, making the blade pop out of its stomach, and Victor quickly grabbed it. He was about to plunge it straight into the creature's heart when suddenly it raised up a hand and quickly slashed at Victor's face. This time, he yelled, not being able to contain himself. The creature's infinitely sharp claw had slashed Victor thin but deep, a cut that started at the middle of the cheek and extended all the way down his neck and shoulder to the middle of his forearm. He could already tell that this was a scar he would carry all his life.
Victor felt an anger swell up inside him, and without hesitating another second after the cut, he stabbed at the monster that lay on the ground straight through the heart. It had already been starting to slowly get itself up, but now its legs crumpled beneath it and it fell to the floor again. It took one last, shrill breath of air before its eyes lost their light and its head slumped to the side, dead.
Victor started to shake a little. He couldn't believe that he had just killed something like that, and he wondered with a slight fear what would happen next. He wondered what was happening and why he had been brought here. But now he had to worry about where Melissa had been taken.
He looked around. There was no door in the room. He was about to give up when he noticed something strange in the ceiling. A small square of it seemed to be a little disconnected from the rest. It was probably a trapdoor, but how was he supposed to get to it? There was only an empty crate in the room, and it was not nearly tall enough to get up there and open it. He thought for a moment, realizing that for the first time in his life he was actually thinking about something that was important for his life to continue.
Suddenly, an idea came to him. It might not work, but it was the only way he could see to get out, and he had to try. He slowly grabbed the crate and put it directly under the trapdoor. Then he stepped on top of it and pointed the sword upwards. The tip of the sword touched the trapdoor. Victor jumped up, keeping the sword pointed upwards, thrusting his arms with all his strength upward. Success. The sword had stabbed through the wood and had gotten itself stuck in there, with Victor hanging from it with both hands. Victor started to slowly swing himself to the side, and when he gained enough momentum, he swung his feet upwards and crashed them against the door, pushing it open. Victor had been planning to be able to hang on to the edges when this happened, but they escaped him by inches, so he fell to the floor. He hit it hard, but luckily didn't injure himself except for a small bruise on his arm. His right arm, where he had been slashed, was burning terribly, along with the rest of the cut, but he ignored it. He stepped on the crate again and swung the sword to the side, planting it on the half on top of the ceiling and half on the bottom on one of the edges were the door had been opened. He pushed himself upwards, once again ignoring the pain, and managed to put his hands on top of the roof. He then simply pushed himself upwards and, standing on the roof now, he looked in amazement at what lay before him.
A vast stretch of plains, straight in front, with the small beginnings of a forest to the right and traces of more dry land to the left. In the distance straight in front of him, he thought he could see sparkling blue water a long, long way off, but it might have been his imagination. This was exactly the kind of place he had always visited, but only in his dreams.
Then he heard a voice behind him say,"Welcome to Aardoon, Mesaraih."

Chapter 4- The Counter

Victor whirled around, heavily raising his sword at the same time in what he hoped was a good fighting style. When he turned around, he saw a bowed and hooded man standing on the roof. He didn't seem very young, even though his face was in shadow.
"Who are you? And what are you talking about? That's not my name," he said to the old man.
Yes it is. It was the same voice he had heard before, but at least this time it was not as cold.
Something about it must have shown in his face, because the man looked up at him, smiling, and now Victor could finally see his features. His face was lined with creases and wrinkles, and he had a short beard of grayish-white. His green eyes had a deep, penetrating look in them, and Victor shifted uncomfortably in their stare.
"Could you just tell me what's going on?" he asked the man. "I'm tired of just having to do a whole bunch of stuff without knowing my background here," he said. In truth, he loved the mystery of this, but he didn't want that to show, because he knew it would probably be important to hear what the old man had to say.
He finally spoke. "I am Faisto. And I'm afraid that for the moment, the knowledge you seek escapes your fingertips by a small amount of distance."
Victor glared at him. "Stop talking in riddles and tell me what's going on," he demanded.
Faisto shook his head, smiling then drew a sword out of an attractively decorated sheath. It had a blue hilt, and its edge was more curved than the sword Victor had found, but a little too much for his taste. Then he jumped at him with incredible speed and landed a blow which Victor was only just able to block in time, but it was a lot more powerful than he would have expected from someone of that age, and he fell back a few feet away. He stood up, snarling, and ran at the man, slashing at him with the sword, but the man merely smiled again and parried the blow and struck again, then again and again. Victor couldn't parry the blows because they were too fast, but he was able to move his body out of the way.
Victor felt a rage start to boil up inside him at the old man, with a feeling of frustration at not being able to do anything agains him mingled along with it, and when it reached its peak, Victor felt the rage suddenly turn into something else. He still felt the anger, but inside it was something he had never felt before: power.
He took ahold of it, knowing it might be the only thing that could save him now, and instantly his body started to glow with an intense red aura, and energy radiated all around him. Finally, he felt that he might be able to match the old man. He ran at him again, surprised at his new speed. It was a lot greater than the old man's now, and so was his strength. When he struck, it was the old man who was thrown backwards. Sweating slightly, the man tried to compete with him, but it was futile.
Then he shook his head in a manner that Victor didn't quite understand, but he saw the old man clench one of his fists, and then, he had a blue aura around him, and Victor felt the energy radiating from it.
Faisto smiled one more time, then leaped at him, and Victor saw that it was a jump that had thrown him about ten feet in the air. He came down and slashed at Victor sideways, sending him flying off the small building with a heavy thud on the ground. Victor groaned but got up, because he could hear the man was coming yet again. He waited for him to get there, then tried to engage him in another sword fight, but even though now it was a slightly fairer match, Victor didn't have very much technical skill and was battered to the ground again. He was surprised he had lasted more than one minute in this. He was able to block one more time, but then the man flicked his sword to the side and brought his own flashing down to Victor's neck, stopping it with a terrible precision just on his skin so it didn't cut him.
Victor snarled at the man. "Don't think this is the end. Go ahead and try that. I have a surprise waiting for you," he said. This was empty bluster, but he needed to buy some time so he could think of something.
Faisto smiled yet again, then said,"Very good. Believe it or not, you are the third strongest who has come here, and if you train hard, I think you may just surpass them."
Victor just stared, noticing that the red energy was receding from his body. "What are you talking about?" he asked.
Faisto withdrew his sword and replaced it in its sheath. "You are Mesaraih. I know that you think it's not your name, but you are his reincarnation, the one he thought most fit to help us in this time of peril to our land... and yours. I wouldn't have fought you myself if you had summoned that energy you used just now against the Vissra. But don't think that makes you foolish or weak. It is a sign that you weren't pressured enough to summon it yet, which means you were capable of beating it even in the weak state you arrived in. By the time your basic training is complete, those monsters will not take more than ten seconds to defeat. I needed to fight you so you could summon that energy you used, because we needed to see what your affiliation would be. It seems you have chose fire. Interesting choice. I hope you at least understand right now that those battles you just faced were merely tests. Now your real life will begin."
Victor got up slowly, drinking in his words. He thought he got a very good idea of what was going on.
"Before anything else happens, I want to know where Melissa is," Mesaraih said.
"She has already arrived at out outpost. Her test was finished a little earlier than yours, and now she is resting. Come, and I will give you the background on your new life," he said.
Victor shrugged, thinking that the man was probably trustworthy, and followed him. They were now walking over to the forested area, but they didn't go too deep inside before they reached another small building, this time made of stone. He went inside after the man.
The room was nothing special. Just a worktable, a small desk, and two beds. One was occupied, with Melissa sleeping in it peacefully. Victor smiled at the sight.
There was only one other man in the room, leaning against the desk and studying what seemed to be a map and some other strange documents. He seemed younger than Faisto, but he could tell already he had been undergoing some tough stress.
"He is here," the Faisto said.
The other one looked up from his papers and peered at Victor. He nodded in approval, then returned his attention to his work.
"Don't mind him, he just likes to overwork himself," the old man said cheerily. "I think you should get some rest for now, and we'll explain everything when both of you wake up again."
Victor finally realized how tired he was and nodded wearily. "Just one thing," he said. "How do I know you won't kill me while I'm asleep?" he asked. He doubted this by now. Faisto, at least seemed like he was trustworthy.
Faist merely smiled. "You can't. You'll just have to trust for now."
Victor, feeling his weariness start to catch up, decided to believe him, then fell on the bed. "You smile a lot..." he said, before drifting off to sleep, with thoughts of Melissa swimming around in his head.

Chapter 5- A Breaking World

Victor opened his eyes slowly, letting the small amount of light from the windows drift into his eyes. He slowly got up and sat on the side of the bed, stretching out his muscles. He looked over at the room, and noticed that it looked sligthly different.
There was more dust and grime in the walls, like it had been uninhabited for a long time. Looking to his right, he saw that Melissa was no longer on the bed. Only Faisto was there, sitting on the desk and looking at the floor with a blank, defeated look in his face. He also detected anger in his look. Then he turned around and looked at him. His eyes were still slightly blank, as if they were adjusting to the new sight. He looked at him for a few more seconds, then recognized the face. Faisto spoke in a croak, but the anger in his voice and face was now completely obvious.
"Why did you do this to us? We put all of our hopes in you, just you... and you promised us... how could you let us down like this? I know... I know you could have done it..." his voice trailed off, and Victor stared at him, shocked and taken aback by the strangeness of it all.
His vision started to become blurry, then his sight of the Faisto disappeared. He was looking back at the same room again, but it wasn't as old and dirty as before, and this time both men were there, along with Melissa, still sleeping in the bed. They looked at him curiously.
"You've been staring into space for a few minutes now. Is everything all right?" Faisto asked.
Victor shook his head slightly. "I think so... it's just that for a moment I saw something else..." he said, still confused.
A slightly troubled look appeared in Faisto's eyes, and they flashed a quick glance at the desk, almost too fast for Victor to see. He coughed slightly, elbowing the other man lightly, and he saw the man look give the same glance at the desk. There was only one small, gold object on the desk, other than papers, but Victor didn't have time to look at it in detail, because right then, Faisto spoke up.
"Do you know what that is behind you?" he asked. Victor turned around and looked at a large painting of a man, holding a shining sword in his hand and standing on a tall rock, overlooking a rich landscape of large forests, mountains, and long plains.
Victor shook his head, looking back at them. He noticed the small item he had noticed before was gone.
"What was that on the desk?" he asked.
Faisto looked at him with a slightly confused expression.
"I'm afraid I don't know what you're talking about," he said.
Victor glared at him. "All right, just speak and tell me everything you know already. You're hiding too many things from me, things that could be of use. I know I saw something on that desk right now, and I know you were both looking at it. Don't try to trick me and just tell me what it is! It can't be anything so bad that I can't know about it!" he said, annoyed at all the things they kept apart from him.
Faisto looked at him sternly. "I'm afraid that some things are far too dangerous for you to know about at this point. Now, if you turn your attention back to the painting, I'll be glad to tell you who that is. It is Mesaraih, and you are one who possibly carries part of his soul, his reincarnation. Have you not notice something slightly alien inside you?" he asked.
Victor looked at him angrily. "I'll get the information out of you somehow," he said. "And yes, there's some idiot talking inside me."
Faisto looked at him and smiled, his eyes glinting. "Keep to that humor. You'll need something to lighten your mood during difficult times," he said. "And the voice inside you is part of Mesaraih's soul. If you do not wish to be called Mesaraih, then go ahead and call yourself Victor. It doesn't really matter, although many would think you would want to be named after the hero of this land... and therefore yours as well. I know that not much of this makes sense, but all will be explained in time. Little by little, I'll be teaching you of the rules of the world, and how everything must be done, along with small pieces of history here and there. This will all be during your physical training, during which you will learn how to use your powers, as well as other vital skills. But we'll wait for that until Melissa wakes, then I'll explain a few more simple basics to both of you."
Victor stared at him. The information he had said was already slightly overwhelming, and he couldn't imagine what it would be like when all the details came in. "How did you know my name, anyway? And yes,I'd rather be called Victor," he said.
"We wouldn't have picked you out to come here and be ignorant of your name," Faisto said. Then he gestured to the other man. "This is Gurenta, by the way."
The man loooked up again, peering at Victor for the second time, at least the second time Victor had seen him do it. Then he turned away again. Faisto smiled at him, then turned back to Victor. "He may not be very friendly, but you'll get used to it. He's not a bad person if you get to know him well," he said.
Victor heard a slight movement to the left. He looked at Melissa's bed to see her start to get up. "About time," he said to her.
She looked at him, then at Faisto, then at Gurenta. "Who are you?" she asked Faisto.
He smiled at her. "I'm Faisto, Victor's tester," he said.
She looked at him for a few more moments, then said,"Okay, you might as well tell us why we're here and what we're supposed to do," she said.
Faisto, still smiling said,"You might actually be more impatient than Victor. Something you better start to overcome. Anyway, Victor's here because only he can save this place, as long as your own home, whichever you consider more important. You're here because he wanted you to be here." He pointed at Victor, and he turned slightly red. "Don't say stupid things," he whispered to Faisto so only he could hear. Faisto ignored him and continued.
"This is Aardoon, your planet's beating heart. If this world dies, then so does yours. This is what your people would call another dimension. There is a strong tie between our two worlds. If either dies, then the other dies as well. We've both been living in harmony for quite some time, but unfortunately a rotten mind has been born among us, threatening the balance that stabilizes our world. If it's not stopped, the balance will break, and both worlds will burst into chaos. If that happens, it will be practically impossible for us to all perish. You see, if either world starts to suffer too much, as ours is starting to, then a balance that sets everything right will be broken, and things will start to warp to and fro from both worlds. Things from here will appear in your world, things from there will appear here. It will happen slowly at fist, then start to speed up. If that happens, then everything must be manually removed, something that will be taught to you later. If too much of our worlds is distorted, then the energy holding us together will break apart, and if that happens... we will all die."

sorry for taking so long with an update

Chapter 6- The Darkmaster

Victor stared at Faisto for a long time. It all just seemed so impossible, so unbelievable... but he knew that Faisto was not lying, and he knew that it was up to him to save both worlds. Finally, he spoke again.
"Why would we all die if the balance breaks? And what do you mean "manually" remove all the warped stuff?" he asked.
"We would all die because we are all made of energy. In its true form, that energy would look like small, lighted spheres. Each sphere would be a different color depending on what it came from. Everything and everyone has energy. If the balance breaks and too many things are distorted in our worlds, then the force holding that energy inside is will break, and the spheres will all break apart and explode... and to imagine so much energy exploding... nothing would be left, it would be a truly colossal explosion. If the balance was to break and things warped, the only way to get things back in order would be to go through the Gates with all the warped things and leave them all in your world, then gather all the warped things over there and bring them back here. The Gates are the only passageway between our worlds, but a journey through them would be hard and dangerous, so try to prevent things from coming to this point. Now I hope you realize the responsibility you have... although maybe you shouldn't try to grasp it too much, so you don't back out."
Victor stared at the ground. He couldn't believe that on him, a 17 year old, had been placed the responsibility of preventing the total destruction of not one, but two worlds. So much had been put on his shoulders... but he was ready to face it no matter what, and he knew he could not fail. He looked up at the sky, then closed his eyes for a while. When he opened them, he looked back at Faisto straight in the eyes.
"I know that it won't be easy, but I don't care. I'll do whatever it takes to save our worlds. I'm ready," he said, trying to sound brave and confident.
Faisto gave him one hard, deep look, then smiled and said,"I know you can do it."
Victor smiled, then asked, "So who's the "rotten mind" that was born? And why is he threatening the balance?"
Faisto's smiled faded, to be replaced by a look of anger. "He calls himself the Darkmaster. Nobody knows where he came from or how he was created, but he is as powerful as he is evil, and that is saying a whole lot. He was first sighted above a town. He only looked like a dark cloud at first, but then it started to talk, and in a very terrible voice, or so they say. But I believe them, as I've heard the Darkmaster talk myself. His voice makes you shudder every time you hear it... but don't be scared, don't let his words harm you. Anyway, he said that the time had come for a new reign to replace the old one, and that he would be its ultimate ruler. But his reign will be evil, and our land will be lost if he is not stopped. After he finished his speech, a black hand materialized in thin air and shot a bolt of lightning down at the town, destroying it completely. Then it disappeared. Only three people survived to tell the tale, and now, only one lives on. The survivors were two men and a woman, all very badly injured. They were burned and crushed beneath their homes, but they managed to survive and crawl out to fresh air, where they were found and healed as best they could. Unfortunately, only the woman survived. Apparently she had a great wish to live, and bravely overcame her wounds. She is up and well now, though you can still see the scars and burns. Afterwards, the Darkmaster assembled an army of dark creatures, turncoats, and traitorous Swordsmen-"
"What are Swordsmen?" Victor asked, interrupting.
Faisto laughed. "I was just getting into my storytelling mood. They are what you are. Swordsmen are powerful men with powers and a special, affiliated sword. But this is a talk for another time, your training as a Swordsman will continue briefly."
"Are you a Swordsman?" Victor asked.
"Yes, and a very old one at that. Now, allow me to continue. The Darkmaster created this army, and used it to invade all the towns and citities of Aardoon. Already half of them are in his power, as few are able to resisit his ferocious army. Most of the cites and towns in the Rikrair Forests are still ours, since they have the advantage of being so high. The trees' trunks are as thick as mountains, and their points go higher than the clouds. Did you not see them when you got out of the warehouse?" Faisto asked.
"No, you didn't give me much time to look around before you attacked me like a madman. And what kind of warehouse is that? There's nothing in it," Victor said.
"It used to be a warehouse. So, where was I? Ah, yes: the Darkmaster's army. Now, the revoutionaries- those are us- and the king's army are the only things resisting the onslaught of the Darkmaster. But with you at our sides, we hope that we can win this war. Anytime there is a battle, you will be contacted, and you will come to us and fight at our side. Only if it's a true emergency are you to stay out of any battle. I'm sorry if it seems very mandatory, but without you I fear that we will not be able to survive much longer. You might be wondering how, if we have a few Swordsmen of our own, we can't defeat the Darkmaster and why we depend so much on you. This is because not even Swordsmen can defeat the Darkmaster; he is too powerful. But you have the spirit of Mesaraih inside you. It gives you far more power than you can imagine, it makes you stronger than regular Swordsmen. And then there is the hidden power, which only you can discover. Nobody knows of this power, as we only know that by using it Mesaraih was able to defeat the tyrant king Berwin. That battle was not seen by anyone, so no one knows what the power is like. But that is not all. In Aardoon, there are many hidden sources of power. You will know what they are when you see them. Only you or the Darkmaster can harness the power of these objects, though, so you must find them before the Darkmaster does. Fortunately, we know the location of one and have a few leads on the others, while the Darkmaster knows nothing of where they could be. He is not in a hurry to find them however. He is confident that no one exists that can destroy him now, and believes that since we are all so weak there is no possible way we can find the sources before he does. This will be what you must try to do, but be careful and try to make your existance as an enemy Swordsman hidden as long as possible, otherwise you will be challenged every time you are spotted by enemies. But that isn't the only thing you must be careful of. Each source of power has a guardian, and each guardian has set up made the terrain towards the power dangerous and filled with monsters. Do not think they are evil however. If you defeat them, they will give up their power willingly, if they see you are of noble heart. But don't be fooled. The guardians are ancient and know nothing of the world outside their sanctuaries, so if you cannot defeat them they will have no mercy with you, even though they are not evil. I will talk more of this during your training. Another task you will have is to recruit new Swordsmen. There are still five more swords left to us, and so five more new Swordsmen will be able to join us. If the person you choose is worthy, they will be able to become a Swordsman simply by possesing the sword, but do not pick just anybody. They must be brave, but make sure they are not too foolish in their desicions, and also make sure that they are completely trustworthy, otherwise they may turn against you and all of Aardoon to join the Darkmaster. Again, before you set out I will explain your tasks better. So, onwards. The Darkmaster is threatening the balance because in his greed for more and more power, he wants to take over your world as well. He plans to send part of his army through the Gates to conquer your world. You might be wondering why he would do something so stupid, something that would destroy everything. That is because he has a lot of power, and he can protect his followers and himself from the explosion. Afterwards, there will be no one left to oppose him and he will recreate the land into a twisted world."
"But why doesn't everyone just say they gave up and that they'll join the Darkmaster, that way when the world is destroyed, and he recreates it, we can all fight him without so much pressure and with a lot more time?" Melissa asked.
Faisto looked at her wisely. "You must understand that if we let him do that, the world he recreates will not be the same and it will be impossible to get our old one back. Why even try? After all, we're trying to save our world, not his."

Post Re: The Reincarnation
Well, you PM-ed me, redshurtugal, so here I am. Are you ready, because this review will be long due to the fact that you have six chapters up and I want to deal with each one individually.

First, however, I want to discuss the layout. Make sure that you put in new paragraphs and a space between each one (like you see above this paragraph) so it is easier to read the text. Also, when someone is talking or thinking, you usually have to put those words in a new paragraph.

Ok, now that I've finished with that, let's get into the meat of the matter:

Chapter 1--Very, very nice beginning. I really got a feel for what was happening, and it felt unique and fresh. I like the vision of the lone fighters amidst the dead bodies. Perhaps, however, you could have described the protagonist better. I know you know what he looks like or where he lives, but I don't know, and I would like to know so that I can feel more attuned to his character. Also, if you had made Victor leave the house without knowing where he was going, but somehow ending up at Mellissa's house, I think that it would have been a little more powerful.

Even so, this was a promising start.

Chapter 2--It was short, to say the least. But it was had a haunting quality to it that, if fleshed out a little more, could have been amazing. (Oh, and by the way, 'beautiful' is spelled with a 'u' after the 'ea'.) As I've said before about Victor, so I will say again about Mellissa. You know how she looks, but I don't. What color are her eyes and hair? Is she tall or short? Is she beautiful or ugly? You get the idea.

Chapter 3--"he let his body legs bend beneath him"? Body legs? I think you just meant legs. Also, you used the name Mesaraih to describe Victor almost randomly in the middle of the chapter. I'm not sure if this was on purpose or not. The battle was well choreographed, in my opinion, and I hope that battle is explained further on. Also, I have a question: is Victor entirely being controlled by this strange presence, or are only his thoughts under its control? Is the presence only controlling his motions when it feels it needs to, or is it always controlling them? I felt as though the presence was confusing. It's not entirely controlling Victor, it seems, but Victor seems to know everything about what's going on and know what to do at all times. Wouldn't he at least have some emotions of fear while battling the beast?

Chapter 4--Ah! Now things are starting to fall together! Nicely done. But I get the feeling that Victor has no emotions beyond anger. Wasn't he slightly afraid of this new world that suddenly appeared? Wasn't he at least uncomfortable with the idea of staying in Aardoon forever? It seems to me like Victor is indifferent to everything except self-preservation and Melissa. Also, you are really good with descriptions. You're dialogue, however, needs a little work. That's what I would focus on in the coming chapters.

Great chapter nevertheless!

Chapter 5--More and more is coming to light, which is really good. You also brought in a very cool concept: interconnected worlds. However, I would like to know how these worlds are connected and why. What makes each world important to the other? Again, dialogue needs work, and there were some typos, but overall, this was a welcome break from the action (not that action is bad) and very explanatory. Nice job.

Chapter 6--Faisto talked for a Reall, really, really long time. Some paragraph breaks at the very least would have been much appreciated. The explanation was informative, though, and I got a lot out of it. Nice job!

You know, I was thinking about the plot of your story and I realized that this would make a great RPG. It just sounds like something the people at Bethesda Softworks would come up with, which is really good.

Please update soon! And try to stay on task, please, heehee.

I'll see what I can do about the things you said...

about the prescence: that's what it is, a prescence. it doens't control him, only surfaces with its own thoughts now and then. it also gives him the ability to grow in strength beyond other Swordsmen. and it also gives him another power, but no spoilers on that one lol.

and a question: what does my dialogue need work on? just so I can work on it better, you know...

yeah, you're right about his emotions, though. I should try to expand on that...

about the interconnected worlds: they're connected by the Gates, which was explained by Faisto. why? you'll have to wait for that lol. maybe then you'll understand a little better.

and about using Mesaraih out of nowhere: that was actually a typo at first, but then I decided to just leave it there. do you think I should take it out?

well, I promise I'll have it all nice and ready by at least Thursday, because I might be busy tomorrow. maybe I'll even have an update too.

I actually disagree. If you were planning on publishing this, then it would be best to change it. However, if the presence in his mind were to for some reason refer to him as Mesaraih, then that would be intriguing to the reader.

Your story is really good, by the way. I don't know if you could tell by all the things I asked you to improve on, but that's my true opinion.

As for dialogue, I think the problem is that your grammar deteriorates when you try to have people talk, and as a result, they sound like they're trying to speak well, but they aren't... I don't know if that helps.

wait... I'm not sure I understand very well about the dialogue lol. so you're saying in my story I have good grammar, but when I put dialogue in, I try to remove the grammar so it sounds weird...?

hm, I finished editing chapter 2, I added more to Victor and Melissa's descriptions there. I also added a bit more about the scene around them. I personally thought it was a little cool lol, hopefully now the chapter's more satisfactory...

Very nice improvement for chapter two. Now I have a better idea of what Victor and Melissa look like. And I liked how you extended the storm scene a little bit more. That little foreshadowing with the presence was a nice touch as well. Good job.

One thing, though, is that you keep spelling presence with a 'c' tacked into the middle like so: "prescence." There is no 'c' there; it's just "presence." Well, that's pretty much my only gripe now, and it's minor.

Still can't wait for the next chapter!

EDIT: Hmmm, let's see. In the dialogue, you try to make them sound casual, but your desire to use proper grammar is also infused into what they say. Thus, we have a jumble of good and bad (almost stilted) sentences. Relax and don't make them sound so formal. How would you talk if you were brought to this world.

Chapter 7 - A Way to Begin

Victor drank the rest of his words in with silence, not really knowing if he could grasp something of that size. He wanted to think he could; he wanted to think he was ready to face everything that was in store for him. But deep down he knew that he just couldn't get the whole idea of the dangers and sufferings he was about to be put through. What troubled him most, though, was that he was slightly scared of what he had to do. He had a strange doubt that he really could accomplish everything he needed to, because it just seemed so much. And if he was scared of an idea he couldn't completely grasp yet, how scared would he be when he finally faced it? Maybe too much to even do it.

After his battle with the Vissra, he had felt invincible and ready for anything, but now he was not so sure. He felt that Faisto was expecting too much of him. He didn't know where all his courage had gone, all that bravery he had thought he had. He frowned. Was he actually a coward? Did he not have any of the honorable values he had thought he had? He shook his head and sighed.

"Do you think I can do this? Do you think that there's actually a way for me to accomplish everything you've told me I have to do?" he asked Faisto.

Faisto looked at him sharply. "It is not up to what I think, it's up to how much you want to believe you can and how much you do. Do you think you can do this?" he asked.

Victor shook his head. "Your opinion counts a lot for me."

Faisto smiled. "Well, in that case, I'll tell you that I most definitely think that you can accomplish this."

Victor raised one eyebrow. "And is that the truth?" he asked.

Faisto nodded.

Victor smiled, then sighed again, feeling that he had not breathed properly ever since arriving in Aardoon. He frowned. Now he felt a little more reassured of what he could do, but something else was bothering him. He realized that there was a lot he needed to do here, and that he had to or else everything would die, but was he going to stay here forever, or go back to his home? What was going to happen after everything was over, if he succeded?

"After it's all over, am I still going to stay here, or go back... from where I came?" he asked. He had been about to say home, but he was unsure of whether it really was anymore.

"That is up to you," Faisto said. "But no more questions. It is time for us to start our training," he said.

Victor sighed and nodded. "I'm a little tired, but I'll follow what you say... unless I feel like being a rebel," he said tauntingly.

Faisto smiled and said, "I am afraid that will be out of the question," he said pleasantly. "Follow me," he said. Victor had his sword in his hand

Victor and Melissa followed Faisto as he walked deeper into the trees. They seemed to be getting taller the farther they went, and it seemed to be turning from a normal forest into a rain forest kind of place. They looked around at everything, taking in the beauty of the tall trees and the exotic plants. They seemed to shine a little, wet with small drops of water. Victor marvelled at the wild beauty of the place.

They reached a small clearing, in which Gurenta was sitting in the middle of. He was looking up at the sky solemnly, but his brutish face seemed to be angry all the time, so it was hard to tell. He looked over to them as they walked in, and he stood up and beckoned for Melissa to follow him. He walked through the trees and Melissa walked after him, saying, "Why do I have to be stuck with the grouch?" Victor could hear their footsteps as they walked, but after she said that both steps stopped, he heard a curt reply, then more brisk walking. He laughed.

Faisto chuckled slightly as well, then turned to Victor.

"Look at me," he said. Victor did so, and Faisto held out his hand. Small blue waves that looked like tiny air currents swept around his palm and formed into a deep blue ball with a shiny interior. Victor stared at it in wonder. Faisto laughed and threw it at him. It hit him in the chest painfully and threw him back against a tree, which he hit hard and fell face down on the dirt. He got up angrily and spit out the dirt.

"What was that for?" he asked.

Faisto laughed. "I'm teaching you," he said.

Despite what he had done, Victor had to admit that he was not really all that angry, and he thought it was funny too, but he decided to act mad. "Thanks, but I already know what pain feels like," he said angrily but quietly, in a hurt sort of way.

Faisto raised an eyebrow at him. "Now that's not quite like you, is it? Hehe... you're trying to trick me, aren't you? Not bad, a skill that could be useful for you..."

Victor sighed. "Is that all you can think of? Ways to make stuff about me into "skills" I can use?"

"Well what we're doing is rather serious," Faisto said.

"It wasn't exactly serious when you attacked me just now like my mad ex did after I got a new girlfriend," Victor said.

"It was completely for educational purposes," Faisto said, chuckling. "Though still rather funny."

Victor couldn't help but laugh. "Fine then, let's keep going," he said.

Faisto nodded. "Okay, that was my pulse. It's something everyone can use, even regular people without any particular gift. But as Swordsmen, ours are far more powerful. I'll teach you how to use it. Put out your hand," he said. Victor did so.

"Now, try to reach inside you and touch your own energy, try to find it."

Victor lowered his hand and burst out laughing. "Find my energy? What kind of stupid thing are you talking about?"

Faisto looked at him. "Just do it," he said sternly.

Victor stopped laughing and held out his hand again. Then he tried to look inside himself. The concept was strange and unknown to him, yet he found it to be rather easy. All he had to do was... well, look inside himself. It was as if as soon as he tried doing that, everything went black and he could see many different things about himself floating in a dark background. He headed to what felt the most powerful, to what he saw as a red ball of light. He touched it, but it shocked him and he drew back, surprised. He touched it again and tried to hold on. He was able to, and his mind snapped back to reality. In his hand he saw little red waves like the ones he had seen in Faisto's hand, and a red ball of light exactly like Faisto's appeared in it. It felt really cool, like a little part of his own energy which he could use for anything... then he realized that was exactly what it was.

Fasito nodded. "Very good," he said. "As you grow stronger, you will be able to make your pulse stronger as well. This is probably only as strong as the one I used on you."

Victor grinned. He threw it at Faisto, who seemed to have expected it and smiled, but did nothing to stop it. It hit him and he crashed against a tree, then fell down. He got up and dusted himself off, laughing. He opened his mouth to say something, but at that moment he heard Melissa scream harshly into the air. He looked up for some reason, and saw several winged, black creatures in the sky.

Faisto frowned and said, "Stay here and stay hidden. I'll be right back."

Victor nodded and stayed where he was until Faisto was out of sight, then headed towards where Melissa had gone. He was not going to sit here when he knew he could do something. He had gotten his sword and carried it with him when they had gone out of the small room, and now it slowed him down a little, but he still sprinted as fast as he could, passing the trees in a blur. But why were the trees passing by so fast?

Lol, Faisto really doesn't seemed to be concerned about anything.

"...it seemed to be turning from a normal forest into a rain forest kind of place."--Is that all you could tell us about the scenery? Certainly you could explain it a little more.

Overall, I felt like this was a transitory chapter. Not a lot happened, although I really like the Pulse spell. I'm not saying a transitory chapter is a bad thing, I was just stating a fact.

I think it's also interesting how Victor seems to lose his identity a little; he doesn't know if he truly lived in our world.

Good chapter, and I look forward to the next update.

should he be worried?

hm, I'll try to go back and explain it better...

lol I'm not exactly really familiar with some of these terms, so what's a transitory chapter... I can sort of figure it out but I just want to be sure lol

Transitory means that it's a chapter that fills in to link two chapters. For example, you had the chapter before it that was a big discussion/explanation chapter. The chapter after this most recent will be filled with action (I think) so, if you didn't have this little chapter in the middle, it would have been really choppy. Thus, it transitions the reader from one setting to the other.

Chapter 8 - A New Enemy

Victor could not help but feel scared. What had happened to Melissa? He had to get there as fast as he could, and although disconcerted by the fact that he was running faster than usual, and that he had not gotten even a little tired, he continued to run. He thought of nothing but running and reaching Melissa, because at the moment it was all that mattered. Soon a small clearing came into sight. He stopped and hid behind a bush, looking at the scene in the middle of it.

There was a large, black bird in the middle of the clearing, like one of the ones he had seen flying in the sky. It was as big as a tree, and it looked very muscular all throughout its body. That, coupled with its razor sharp orange beak, strong legs, and taloned feet gave it a menacing look. It was pinning Melissa down. He also knew it was dangerous because Faisto and Gurenta, who were standing in front of it, were keeping it at a distance and seemed wary.

"Enough. What we said is the truth and we are now against you. The Darkmaster has promised us what no one else would ever be able to do, and for that we will do anything," the bird said. Victor was shocked it could talk, but its rasping, harsh voice made him fear it more than anything. He shivered.

"It is lies. You can't seriously believe in the Darkmaster," Faisto said.

"We're not the only ones that believed him. You never know who's going to stab you behind the back. Even now, nearby, one who you thought was an ally bould be pointing a deadly weapon at you," the bird said, laughing. It turned to the bush where Victor was hiding, but Victor could see that out of its eyes it was grinning to someone in a different direction.

Gurenta spoke. "Fine then, if you are against us, we will have to kill you."

The bird laughed once again. "But you don't want the girl to die, do you? She's with you, isn't she?" The bird pressed its talons against Melissa further, clasping her tighter. She whimpered, but could not do much else, because she was too tightly held.

Faisto and Gurenta glared at the bird. "It seems my training with Victor today has turned into a serious situation. I would never have expected a betrayal of this kind."

Victor listened to this, but now, he had to react and do something. Only threats would be said now, but if he could sneak to the bird and harm it it would give time for Faisto and Guntera to save Melissa... hopefully. His heart hammering in his chest, he ran for cover in a bush behind the bird. He found the energy inside him once more, surprising himself by doing it faster than the first time, and focused on it with all his strength. He was pleased to see his pulse was bigger this time. Then he launched it at the bird's head, yelling, "Hey bird! Look over here!"

The bird turned around, not too surprised. As soon as it did, the pulse hit it right in its left eye. It yelled in pain and rage as blood came out of its eye. It tripped over itself and fell to the floor. Then it stood up again, and Victor saw that its eye had been burned out. There was a dark, bloody hole in the socket. Victor shivered, but ran at it with his sword. He didn't have to do it, though, because at that moment Faisto and Gurenta pounced on the bird, swords drawn. Victor for the first time saw Guntera's sword color. It was green.

They both raised their swords and sunk them in the bird's chest. It shrieked once again and shook them off. It flapped its wings once, hard, and the gust of air that flew out from them was so strong that it blasted both Faisto and Gurenta off their feet and crashing against a tree. Victor winced as he heard a crack and wondered how their spines did not break. But they stood up once more, only to find the bird was upon them. It struck at them with its talons, hovering slightly in the air. They dodged around its feet, then stabbed them. The bird groaned and twisted in the air so it was above them, then dove down, its beak pointing at Faisto's heart. Faisto pointed his sword at it and shot a jet of water at it. It hit the bird in its other eye and Victor saw as it opened it that it had been blasted off. It was bloody as well. He realized that the beam had been more than just water, because water would not have destroyed its eye so easily. It must have energy as well.

The bird, blinded, flapped its wings hard again and again, trying to keep Faisto and Gurenta out of reach. They stood up to the wind valiantly, not letting it push them back, but they could not move forward. Victor ran up to the bird and jumped up as high as he could. He received another shock as he reached the bird's neck. He quickly slashed his sword at it, which now felt lighter. The sword went cleanly through the bird's neck, and, with a spatter of blood, its head came off and fell to the floor with a thud. The bird's body ran around in circle crazily for a few seconds, then it stood still and fell towards the floor as well. Victor landed on its head and the blood wet his jeans, but he quickly stood up and moved away from it, disgusted and not believing what he had just done. Less than a day in Aardoon and he had killed two creatures that were bigger and stronger than him. He felt both were luck however, and a strange fear gripped him.

Faisto and Gurenta walked towards him, smiling, but Victor ignored them and walked towards Melissa. Before he reached her, however, another bird swooped in from the sky, grabbed Melissa with one talon, and Gurenta with the other. It passed by so fast that a gust of wind knocked both Faisto and Victor crashing against trees, which cracked against the hard impact. Victor stood up, not caring the least why his back had not broken, and ran towards the bird, but he knew it was futile. The bird was already far out of reach in the air. Then he saw Faisto jump up to a tree. With his sword, he slashed at the air, and the slashes turned into curved, blade-shaped strips of blue, watery energy that flew towards the bird. It dodged around them, twisting gracefully in the air. Faisto launched more at it, varying his attacks now between slashes, balls, and jets. They started coming faster, and one of them nipped the bird, making it shake a little in the air, but the rest of the attacks continued to go at him. Victor thought that without doubt they would hit it now, but the bird turned around, and, with a hard flap of its wings, sent a gust of air that reversed the course of the attacks, sending them flying back towards Faisto. Victor looked at Faisto's face, fearing the worst, but then Faisto summoned from his sword a large shield of the same watery energy. All the attacks crashed against it with a loud explosion, and smoke covered the area for a few seconds.

Even though he had seen the attacks crash against, Faisto's shield, Victor was scared something might have happened to him. He waited for the smoke to clear up, but before it did, Faisto could be seen walking towards him. Victor sighed with relief, and they silently walked back the way they had come. Then, after a few moments, Victor felt ready to talk. "What were those things?" he asked.

"Birds called Karrons. They're vicious and dangerous, but they have never attacked us. They live in peace and the only ones that feared them were their prey. But now it seems the Darkmaster has convinced another species to join them," Faisto replied with a sigh.

"And... what happened? Why did this happen?" Victor asked, feeling tired and worried. He could not understand why they were walking away from Melissa. The thought that he might never see her again settled in his mind and for a moment he recognized the full pain of what could happen to her. And he was afraid, for her and for him as well, because that could happen to him just as easily. His heart had not stopped beating hard.

Faisto looked down at his hands for a moment before answering. "I had planned with the Karrons a new test for you, so you could start to train with your powers as a Swordsman. You might have been peacefully conjuring flames right now. When you arrived, that was the scene you were supposed to see in your training. I was going to give you instructions on how to attack with flames from your sword and you had to try and rescue Melissa. Unfortunately, the Karrons had plans of their own. I'm not sure why they kidnapped Melissa and Gurenta though, and I don't know where they were taken. Possibly one of their caves, or possibly the castle of the Darkmaster. Don't panic. You'll find them one day, when you set out away from here."

Victor sighed as the small house came into view. He did not want to go inside, he did not want to rest, he did not want to have thoughts of Melissa haunting him. "Teach me now," he said. "Teach me how to do the flames you were talking about."

Faist sighed and asked, "Are you sure?"

Victor nodded. If he really was going to find Melissa one day, he had to learn everything as fast as possible. "Today, there won't be any more resting until it's time to sleep. We're going to train all day and you're going to teach me. I want to get out of here and do what I have to do as fast as possible," he said to Faisto.

Faisto nodded, his eyes sparkling. "Get your sword ready. Now, remember when you did the pulse? We'll have to perfect this before we move on, if we're going at it all day. Now, try to do the pulse faster, without thinking."

Victor nodded and delved inside himself in a flash, found the energy, and released it in a ball of red energy. It took him two seconds.

Faisto shook his head. "Too slow," he said. "When you perfect it, you won't have to look inside yourself anymore. You can let go of the energy whenever you want without having to look for it."

Victor snarled and tried again. And again he was too slow. It took him nearly an hour before he cut his time by one second. Even then that was too slow for Faisto. "Don't look inside yourself anymore. I know you can do it."

Victor shook his arm and tried again. This time, he let the energy come to him, instead of looking for it, and to his surprise the energy did come, and in about a tenth of a second he had thrown the pulse at Faisto. "Good job. Now, feel the energy connecting you to your sword. Look inside yourself and find it."

Victor did so, and he felt strange as he realized that the sword and him shared a strange sort of fiery connection, as if it was alive. Then, inside himself, he saw a ball of fire. He touched it and recoiled, shocked at the power that resided in it. Then, gaining confidence, he let it envelop him. He snapped back to reality and realized that his sword was circling in flames.

Faisto smiled. "Good. Now, you can release this power in four forms. Ball, slash, jet, or shield. I think you've seen me do all of them," he said.

Victor nodded.

"Try to release it."

Victor tried and to his surprise found that it was more natural and easy than he had anticipated. He had wanted to release it as a fireball, and just at his mere thought and release of the energy, a fireball shot out from his sword and singed a small hole in the ground. He grinned and tried again, this time releaseing a jet of fire at the sky. Then he tried a slash, and watched it cut a tree in half and rise up in flames. Faisto laughed and quickly put the fire out.

"Try not to cause a forest fire with your powers," he said. Victor laughed. "Now protect yourself," he said. He released a jet of water at him and Victor knew what he had to do. He quickly let a shield of fire out of his sword and it blocked the attack. "Hold up," Victor said. He released the shield of fire again, but this time it came out as a bubble of fire around him. Then he tried again and fire enveloped his body like a fiery armor.

"Can you do that?" Victor asked.

Faisto looked surprised. "Yes, I was just about to teach you that. How did you figure it out?"

Victor shrugged. I just realized I could do it somehow... like I already knew how to do it.

Faisto smiled. "Perhaps Mesaraih will help your training speed in progress. Tomorrow you will have the full strength and speed of a Swordsman. It takes three days, and tomorrow will be the third day. You're going to wake up and find yourself a lot faster and stronger. I think you'll be pleased. Then I will teach you swordsmanship and how to fight. After that, I'll give you some information on our land, and then, you will be ready to set off. Hopefully that time will come by the end of the week."

Victor smiled as well, really anticipating for the first time the adventure that was to come.

"Continue to practice with your flames until you can do it as fast as your pulse and try to change the sizes of your attacks. I hope you'll master this by the end of the day." He walked away and into the small house.

Victor practiced insistently, excitedly, and with determination. He was pleased with his progress and was glad that it was all so easy. Perhaps it was the presence, or maybe it was not. But he did not care. He was just happy to see that somehow he was learning faster than he normally would have. And by the end of three hours, when it was barely past midday, he had mastered his firepower.

Wow, it's been a while...but I think it was worth the wait. Your dialogue has improved greatly, and there weren't nearly as many errors as in some fanfics I have seen (not on this site, though).

You do well with the action sequences. What I did realize, though, is that you don't describe the setting at all. Because of that, I had a difficult time imagining where the characters were. But that aside, it was a great chapter.

Chapter 9 - Swords and a Wetlak

At the end of the day, Faisto walked up to Victor and gave him a long object. It was a sheath for his sword. It had red, curling flames painted on a black background. He thought it was very fancy, beatiful, and well made. It fit his sword well.

"You're done for today. Tomorrow you'll have an even harder day, but perhaps a little more fun," Faisto said with a small chuckle. Victor nodded, extremely tired, and gazed out at the vast plain that streched out before him, while on the side trees started to form a forest. The land was bathed in a golden light as the sun set, giving the green grass and leaves a shining appearance. He sighed contentedly. He loved being in this place, it was so natural and beatiful.

Slowly, he walked back into the small house and into his bed, feeling a knot form in his throat form as he saw the other empty bed. He gulped it down and covered himself in blankets, trying not to think of Melissa. But after a few minutes a single tear slid down his face and afterwards he could not stop the rest from coming. He had not wanted to cry, but now the weight of losing Melissa crashed upon him and he sobbed silently as hot tears spilled uncontrollably from his eyes. He cried for a few minutes, then he was able to settle himself again. Finally he fell to sleep, cradling his sheathed sword in his arms.

Soon he entered the world of dreams. He saw his friends from back in earth walking with him towards a giant wall of rock that towered more than a hundred feet above him and stretched out many miles. They were walking towards it with purpose, as if they knew what they were doing, and he was walking with them. They neared it and stopped as they heard a rumble from the other side. One of the boys, about 16 years old, started to scale the wall with a rope, but he could only see the back of the person and did not know who it was. He saw the boy reach the top, then an arrow was suddenly protruding from his neck. The body fell down towards them and for a moment he caught a glimpse of the dead, glazed eyes, but he still did not know who it was.

Victor woke up with a start, fearing the darkness of the night. He stayed sitting straight up and alert for a few minutes, tense, until he finally felt more at ease again. He lay back down and after a few more minutes was able to fall asleep. The dead eyes of the boy, however, never left him.

When he finally woke up again, the sun was just coming up. He quickly grabbed his sword and got out of bed, running out the door. He wanted to see the sunrise. He watched in awe as the flat land before him was suddenly thrown into the light of the sun, enriching it with beauty. The horizon looked purple and everything was unrealisticly transformed into a thing of beauty, even the ugliest plant or the most simple animal that scurried through the grass. He could almost feel his eyes reflecting the light of the sun. Soon, the sun rose completely from the horizon and the land was thrown into a pure daylight. He smiled, trying to forget his nightmare.

Victor went back inside and saw that Faisto was not there. He looked at the desk and saw a small piece of paper with writing on it. He went closer towards it and found read a small note in curvy handwriting that seemed half cursive and half manuscript. It read:

Victor, I will not be here until midday. An emergency arose; I need to help a friend. Ten minutes after you wake up a beast called the Wetlak will arrive close to the house, so don't wander off. You're going to kill it. Watch out, I haven't done anything to reduce its ferocity or bloodthirtyness, so it will try to kill you with everything and if you were to die it would be your own fault. Don't be scared though; I know you can kill it. Have fun

- Faisto.

Victor scowled instinctively, but he was rather pleased. Thinking back on his battle with the Vissra, he felt this would be quite an adventure. He walked outside and started to jog to warm himself up; the weather was a little chilly. After he felt a little warmed up, he started to do sprints. As he took off, in a second he had covered ten feet. He stopped suddenly and looked at his starting point, completely caught off guard and surprised. How could he have run that fast? He rememebered what Faisto had said abouth his strength and speed reaching their peak today. He smiled and wondered how fast he could run now. He ran out towards the plain and after a minute looked back at the house. He could barely make out a small grey dot on the horizon. He marvelled at how fast he had become and was extremely pleased. He ran back and reached the house in another minute, without even feeling tired.

Victor drew his sword from his sheath and noticed that it seemed as light as a feather. He moved it around without the smallest amount of difficulty. He walked over towards the forest, looking around. He found a large boulder that weighed about 200 pounds and picked it up. It was only as heavy as a small rock. He moved it to one hand and still did not struggle in the slightest. It was amazing and unbelievable, but he was extremely happy nonetheless. He felt a lot more sure in his success now.

As he walked out of the forest, he heard a deep rumble out in the plains. The ground shook slightly. He saw something moving in the distance. He did not have to think for too long to realized what it was. It was probably the beast Faisto had said would come, the Wetlak. He ran towards it and looked at it from a distance, taking in its appearance.

The Wetlak had light green skin and was shaped like an extremely buff human with arms as lons as its legs that nearly touched the floor. It was gigantic, at least twenty times the size of a normal human. It had large, straight, and blood red horns on its head. Its eyes were large black balls on its head.

Victor felt a strange mix of anticipation and fear. The fierceness of the creature could not help but instill a slight fear in him, but he also liked the idea of fighting. He ran towards the Wetlak and as it saw him it let loose a savage cry and thundered towards him as well. Victor stopped and waited for it to reach him. He sent fire slashes towards the Wetlak as fast as he could, swinging his sword through the air. It roared in pain as the flames hit it and curved scorch marks appeared on its skin. As it neared him, it struck out with one arm to try and crush him. Victor rolled to the side, avoiding the huge fist, jumped up, pleased at how high he went, and stabbed at the Wetlak's stomach, enjoying the spurt of blood that came out and the roar of agony the Wetlak did.

Now Victor felt pumped up and full of adrenaline. His heart was pumping but he was also excited. The Wetlak tried again to crush him in its fist, but Victor jumped to the side then jumped on the Wetlak's arm, running up its length and slashing and stabbing his sword wildly at it. It roared in pain and immediately tried to shake him off, but Victor jumped off his arm and onto the other one, stabbing it once and jumping at the other one once more. Changing course in midair, he grabbed his sword with both hands and stabbed the Wetlak right in the chest, plunging the sword deeply. It roared once again but Victor ignore it as he started to launch several jets of fire from his sword. They went loose inside the Wetlak and it made a low gurgling noise of terrible pain, but its voice seemed to have died as Victor felt the sword being shot out of the Wetlak once again as the blast of the attack sent it back.

As he landed on the ground, he bent his legs and made one high leap, reaching the Wetlak's head. It looked up again and tried to slap him off but Victor jumped up and as he came down he stabed one of its eyes with his sword. He quickly stabbed the other one and then the top of the head and jumped off. The Wetlak gave a terrible roar of agony as blood spurted out from its head, cascading down to the ground like a waterfall. Victor let loose a flurry of fireballs and they all hit the Wetlak, burning it in its pain. He knew it was probably dying anyway, but just to make sure he did not stop until the Wetlak stopped moving and tumbled to the floor with a loud thud.

Victor breathed heavily and slowly approached the Wetlak, sheathing his bloody sword. He saw one of its arms was badly cut, while the other one only had one cut. The stomach had a large, bloody hole in it. Its chest had a blackened wound on it that oozed blood. Victor's eyes rose to its head, which was completely disfigured now. The place where its eyes had been were two large, bloody holes, and part of the skull on the top was caved in and cut up. The whole head was red from its own blood. Victor had never seen so much blood spilled in all his life and never thought that he would, but what came as the biggest shock to him was that he had caused it. His body shook slightly as he walked away from the gore filled site. He felt like a murderer, and he was upset with himself for having enjoyed the battle. He could not sort out his feelings. Was his true personality that of a killer?

His thoughts passed by like coiled snakes, dark, long and confusing, as he reached the house. The sun was directly above him now. Faisto would probably be arriving soon. He tried to forget the Wetlak's killing as an evil act and tried to feel proud of himself. Feeling proud of himself worked, but he could not get rid of the feeling of murder. He opened and closed his hands repetetively. He had always thought himself to be a good person, but after this he was not so sure. He was not sure that he was meant to be a hero.

He felt lighter as he looked up and saw Faisto approaching the house. He had been sitting in front of the door, but now he stood up. He went straight up to Faisto and said, "I feel like a killer."

Faisto frowned and said, "I had hoped you wouldn't have qualms about this. Don't you realize that you're about to set out on a quest that will be full of death, a major part of it caused by you? That creature was evil- an enemy. You had to kill it. There is no need to feel like a killer, because even though speaking literally you will be one, your heart is good and these deaths are justified. Well, perhaps not justified, but excused."

Victor smiled. "I guess so. It'll just take some getting used to, I guess," he said.

Faisto nodded. "I saw the body of the Wetlak. Fancy," he said, chuckling.

Victor gave him a weak smile. The thought of the Wetlak's body repulsed him. "What will we do now?" he asked.

"I'm going to teach you how to really use that weapon. I'm going to teach you swordplay."

Victor nodded. "Let's start then."

Faisto shook his head. "You have to eat first. Aren't you hungry?" he asked.

The thought of food nearly made Victor choke. "Not really, but I guess I have to eat."

They went inside and Faisto pulled out a small bag of dry meat, some fruit that he had never seen before, and two yellow bottles of something. "What's that?" Victor asked, pointing at the yellow liquid in his bottle.

"Yert juice. It's a fruit. And that's Wetlak meat," Faist said, pointing at the dry meat. Victor had been about to take a bite, but he quickly put it down and felt sick.

Faisto laughed. "I was only joking," he said. "Now eat, and afterwards, we will start."

Victor did not have much appetite and ate little, but Faisto surprised him by eating three times as much food as he had. "How do you stay so skinny?" Victor asked.

Faisto laughed and said, "How do you actually have some meat on those bones?"

They went outside and Faisto stood in front of Victor. They both drew their swords. Faisto said, "Block this." He snapped his arm towards Victor, who rose his arm up to block the sword with his own.

Faisto nodded. "Good," he said.

For the next hour, Faisto showed him various defensive techniques and counters, showing him how to parry blows the most effectively and strike back at them afterwards. He played with Victor a little to show him how to do it then actually had him do it. After they were done with that, Faisto moved on into attacking techniques. He showed Victor how to slash and cut, twist and stab. Victor learned a lot in those few hours, but he wondered how he would ever become good at swordplay this way. He was about to question this when Faisto spoke up.

"Now, I've taught you everything you need to know about swordsmanship. The rest you have to do yourself. Everything I've taught you, you'll use and bend slightly to fit your own style, and you'll execute every attack in the ways you want to. Now, we'll now when you become good at this when you are able to beat me. Once you accomplish that I can guarantee you that you are better than almost any other in swordsmanship. Now we shall spar. But take this, just to make sure we don't cut each other."

Faisto threw his a makeshift sword of wood that was shaped just like his own and weighed the same. Faisto got one himself and squared up to Faisto. Faisto started the attack by jumping at him, bringing his sword down. Victor parried and twisted around, slashing at Faisto's side. Faisto sidestepped it and stabbed Victor in the chest, who was too slow to parry.

"You would have been dead right there," Faisto said.

Victor snarled and tried again, only to lose once more in less than two minutes. They continued like that until the sun started to set. By then, Victor had managed to last ten minutes against Faist, and yet he felt that Faisto was yet to be challenged. Frustrated and sore, Victor stomped over to the house and threw himself into bed early, Faisto's laughter ringing in his ears.

The next day, as soon as they woke up, they grabbed their makeshift swords and sparred. Victor was sleepy and did not do very well. After eating breakfast, though, he felt a littl more energized. He started to become more creative with his moves, and started to move faster. He realized that he liked executing a lot of quick moves. After a while of trying that out on Faisto, he realized this is how he would duel. With speed. As the day grew older, Victor noticed that Faisto had actually started to try. Once, Victor nearly beat Faisto, being about to stab him, but Faisto had been able to step back just in time. Even then, the sword tip had been inches from his chest.

By the end of the day, they were both tired. Faisto nodded and said, "You're learning fast. I can tell you have a lot of talent. By the end of tomorrow, I'm sure you'll have beaten me. Tell Mesaraih thanks." Victor smiled and walked to bed, wishing he knew exactly how Mesaraih helped him.

The next day was exactly by the previous one, sparring all day. It was the afternoon, and they were both a hot and sweaty. They had already been on one session for a half hour, and they were tired. They stood facing each other, muscles tensed. The attacks had stopped briefly as they tried to regroup their strategy. Victor made a movement as if he were going to slash at Faisto, and Faisto ate it, jerking his sword up. Victor took the advantage to try and stab Faisto in the stomach, but Faisto was able to parry. Still, he had been thrown off balance and Victor had an advantage over him. He launched a series of fast attacks, trying to stab Faisto, but Faisto somehow managed to keep his ground. Victor slashed, cut, stabbed, and tried everything, but he could not breach Faisto's defenses. On one attempted stab, Faisto knocked Victor's sword aside and finally was able to attack himself. He slashed at Victor, but Victor sidestepped it and stabbed at Faisto's stomach. Faisto was about to parry it when at the last moment Victor jerked it up to his chest and the makeshift sword bumped into it.

Victor threw his sword down in joy and jumped in the air. "Yeah!" he shouted. "You would have been dead there man, dead!" After his euphoria died down slightly, he calmed down and stayed calmly standing up in place. "That was cool," he said.

Faiso did not seem surprised. "I knew you were going to be able to do it. Now you just have to be able to prove you're better than me by beating me three times in a row. But first, let's go to the river. We need to take a bath," he said, laughing.

Victor laughed too and they went into the forest towards the river. Victor took a bath in it every day. The water was cold, but he loved being in here. The water felt good and as the sun shined off it in places it seemed like another sun, except in the form of a river. It helped him a lot to relax. After they washed themselves, they started to spar once more. Victor beat Faisto again, but then Faisto beat him, for Victor had gotten overconfident. Then Victor beat Faisto two times, but Faisto, in an amazing, struggling effort, was able to pull off a slight win. After that, Victor beat him three times. By the time this happened the sun had nearly set.

Panting, Faisto walked up to Victor. "You are indeed better than me now. Believe it or not, in these few days, you have become very dangerous. You're lucky no one knows about you yet, otherwise there would be a lot of bounties on your head. But don't worry. You'll get a lot of publicity soon enough. The day after tomorrow you'll leave here. You're ready to go on your own. The rest of your training will be in your travels as you gain experience in Aardoon. Tomorrow I'll only give you a basic overview of our land, then you'll be off. I would go with you, but I'm afraid I'll be needed elsewhere. Don't worry about company though. I'm sure that during your travels you'll make good friends that will follow you. I, at least, think you're very pleasant to be around with, when you're not mad."

Victor smiled and said, "Thanks. I think I'll actually miss you after I leave... it's funny to think I'm dangerous," he said, his mind wandering. "All right then, I'll see you tomorrow."

With that, Victor trotted over to his bed, yearning rest after the long and tiring day, and thinking eagerly about the adventures that were in store for him.

Looong chapter, lol. But good nonetheless. I am, however, getting rather bored of the continual fighting scenes. Make sure that that doesn't become the only way you use action in the story. Mix it up.

And I am excited to see what happens when Victor sets out. I'm glad to see that he's having doubts about his character and abilities, even though his rapid improvement was a tad unbelievable.

As you move forward with Victor's training in terms of the actual journey, make sure that he learns more than just more sword and magic skills. Find a way to make him learn something about his character, or even make him do something horrible and hate himself. That would be an interesting twist. Making him oscillate between good and evil, and the reader doesn't know which side he'll choose in the end....hmmm.

But I digress. Very nice chapter.

Chapter 10 - The Journey

Victor opened his eyes and felt his muscles pain him all over. He was incredibly sore, but an air of anticipation almost made the whole thing enjoyable. He reached down under the bed and pulled out the sheathed sword, then buckled it on to his belt. It felt like it belonged there now. He took it out and looked at it, feeling the joy of having something like this being truly his. It was a rather strange sword, now that he thought about it. Even though it was slightly curved at the top, it was still double-edged. He sheathed it again and walked outside, into the broad, beatiful daylight and fresh air that filled his lungs. It was a good feeling, being in such a beatiful place.

Victor saw that Faisto was already waiting for him with an array of objects littered at his feet. There were five swords, a small sack that did not look like it could hold anything because of its size, and a folded up map. As he approached him, he looked up and gazed at him for a long time. Finally, he asked, "Are you ready?"

Victor nodded. "Completely ready," he said. He started to feel an excitement rise up in him.

"Basically all I'm going to do is tell you a bit more about our land and the route you should take. Then you will be off. Let's take care of the simple things first." He pointed to the swords, then the sack. "You will carry the swords in that sack, and you should guard them very well. Not with your life, but nearly so. You-" he was cut off as Victor interrupted.

"How are those swords going to fit in that sack?" he asked.

"That sack has a spell on it. All the swords will fit in it and weigh nothing at all. Now, you will also carry this," he said. Out of his pocket he drew a small rectangular object made of wood. "This is how I will contact you if your help is needed. It will alert you and show you which way you need to go."

"Now I'm going to give you general information about this land. The first thing you should know is that it is filled with all kinds of creatures and beasts unlike the ones in your land. You have seen the Vissra already. Like quite a few of the other more ferocious beasts, they are with the Darkmaster. A large part of his army is composed of Vissras. Now, I could go on and on about all the creatures but it is best if you find out for yourself what they all are. I just wanted to give you a small warning that some of them will attack you, while others will help you. Now, I think I should tell you what the best route to take would be," he said.

He unfolded the map and Victor eagerly looked at it, wondering what this land was like. He saw that it was an extremely large island, very similar to Earth's Australia. In the center, a large lake resided, and four large rivers fed its waters. The rivers came from the distant corners of the land, but they did not seem to come from the sea. He saw that there were plenty of mountains, mostly located around the outer edge of Aardoon, and he saw a dessert, as well as the Ristvak Forests. He saw that the trees drawn on the map were bigger than the mountains on it.

"Now," Faisto started, "as I said before, we know the location of one crystal. It is somewhere within the Ristvak Forests. You can see that they extend all the way to the corner of the land. Obviously, it is likely to be in a place where there are not very many people, or in a place where people wouldn't dare or want to venture. You'll go north and look for the crystal first. Now, the next place you go to is completely up to you. All I will tell you is that I am pretty sure there is at least one on the eastermost edge or one in the westermost edge. And that will make it likely that there is one on the southernmost edge as well. The fifth one is, if my guesses are right, in the center. But, I should tell you that it would be best to get the one in the center last. You don't want to be at the edge of Aardoon when you find the last crystal. Also remember that if the Darkmaster beats you to even one crystal, it will be practically impossible for you to defeat him. If he beats you to two..."

Faisto trailed off and gave him a look that said what he meant better than words would have. Victor nodded.

"I understand what I have to do. Is that all you're going to tell me?"

Faisto nodded. "It's all you need to know," he said.

Victor shook his head. "I want to know what that golden thing in the room was the other day."

Faisto looked at him for a long time. "If you really want to know, then you're going to have to figure it out for yourself," he said.

Victor nodded. He had expected that kind of answer. He extended his hand towards his teacher and master, but more importantly he extended it to his first friend on this land. Faisto smiled and took it. Victor thought that his eyes were rather watery. They embraced, and then Victor looked towards the new path that life would take him to. He walked forwards into the forest. Just before he was out of sight, he turned back and looked at Faisto and the land behind him one more time. Then he turned back and walked into the shade of the trees.

Victor felt slightly held back. He wanted to find Melissa before anything else. But he could not take detours to satisfy himself. Besides, he had no idea where she could be. Hours passed, and he merely walked and ran, looking at the world around him and immersing himself in his own thoughts. The view around him changed constantly, but it was always beatiful. At times he would always be under trees, and they would be thick around him, not allowing him to see very far out. Flowers dotted the ground around trees and in small patches. At other times, the trees would be more thinned out and he would be atop a small hill, overlooking the whole of the forests, and gazing up at the gargantuan trees ahead of him.

Suddenly, Victor started to hear noises. It sounded rather like people talking. There were other sounds, too. There was the sound of animals, and the sound of digging, the sound of people at work. Then, all of a sudden, the noises got louder. Finally, he could hear the people start to scream. He ran faster and found himself in a small town. The trees had been cleared from the area. He immediately saw what was going on. All the people were running towards one corner of the town, and there were three men on watching them, laughing like maniacs. Then, when all the people were gathered, the man in the center spoke.

"Yes, my rampage has reached this town. Since I know that none of you here can stop me, I'll give you all a chang to live. I -"

He was cut off as a man charged forwards with a sword in hand. The evil man laughed, and when the other man reached him, he merely sidestepped the slash and quickly brought his arm around to behead him. Then he brought the blood-stained sword to his lips and licked all the blood off.

"Refreshing," he said. "Anyone else want to be stupid?" he asked.

Victor knew he was not supposed to draw attention to himself, but he wasn't just going to sit here. He walked over towards the town, right in the middle of the people and the three men. They all looked at him, seeming as if they were about to laugh. Victor drew his sword, and the main killer, looking more serious than the rest, did so too. Victor looked down at the sword and realized that it was a Swordsman's sword. It was much like his, except with a blue hilt instead of red. Victor looked up at the man once more. He did not seem like he had much power at all.

Suddenly, the man lunged at him. Victor saw at once that he was very slow. Victor sidestepeed him and threw his arm forward right where the man's heart was. The man had barely turned around when he felt the blade protrude inside his chest. His eyes opened wide, and then he collapsed onto the floor. His two henchmen stared at Victor, mouths open wide. Victor ignored them and bent down to pick up the blue sword.

"Where did he get this?" he asked them.

The two men seemed at first like they weren't going to speak, but then one of them said, "We found a hidden hollow in one of the trees, and inside was a grave that said it belonged to a Swordsman. Our boss digged inside and found this, so he took it. But I swear, he had us threatened! We never wanted to do all this!"

Victor laughed at them. "Yeah, of course you didn't want to. Fine, I'll tell you what. You can spend a long time locked up in prison and I won't kill you. Deal? Alright."

The two men nodded nervously as two townspeople came up grabbed their arms behind them. The rest of the town was completely silent, staring at the killer's dead body. After a few more moments, they started to cheer, and they all ran forwards to try to embrace him. He put a hand up. He didn't want any more attention. "Just clean everything up here, I have to go," he said.

He grabbed the sword and looked at the dead man's body. The hilt for the sword was on his back, hung from a strange kind of belt that wrapped itself about his chest. The hilt itself had designs of blue dragons that seemed composed of flames. He took it off the man and put it on himself. It was very light and comfortable. He would keep the sword, unless he found the grave of the person it belonged to. Only then would he return it. He sheathed it on his back and walked away from the town. Fighting with two swords would take a little practice, but the thought pleased him.

After a while, he started to get an uneasy feeling, as if he were being followed. He started running, but the feeling did not go away. Soon, he grew irked of the feeling.

"All right, if there's anyone following me, just come out already and I won't do anything to you," he said.

An old, female voice laughed from behind a tree. Victor dashed towards it. An old woman was standing there. She was short, and wearing a long cloak with a hood that hid every one of her features except for her hands, which were extremely wrinkled and ashen. She was holding a small basket that was brimming with various kinds of herbs, and their smells made Victor feel sleepy. He took a few steps back. The woman laughed again.

"What do you want?" he asked.

"I just came to warn you about something. You know that man that you killed back in the town? He was carrying a curse, put on him by me. He defiled my husband's tomb and killed one of my daughters. It'll probably be too complex for you to understand my spell, but now that you're the one that killed him, the curse was passed on to you. Soon, a strong warrior will wake and rise from underground, with the sole purpose of killing you so that he can rest once more. You're going to have to kill him. I won't give you more details on him. I'm pretty sure you'll find out yourself soon enough. Oh, I also know that you took my husband's sword. You seem like a good peson. I am sure he would not have objected to you having it. But I'm more fussy about possesions as valuable as that. Despite that, I'll let you keep it for one favor," she said.

She snapped her fingers and a girl could suddenly be heard crying behind another tree. She came out from the shadows and walked towards them. Victor saw that she was very pretty, and young, probably only one or two years younger than him. The only thing that kept him from staring at her for a long time was the child she was holding by the hand. She looked up at him and attempted a small smile. He smiled back, then looked once more at the old woman.

"All you have to do is take care of her until your journey ends, by which time she'll be safe and out of danger."

"How do you know? Besides, my journey is going to be very long and dangerous. I wouldn't recommend a girl and a little kid coming along."

The old woman laughed once more. "The girl can handle it. Yes, I know exactly where you're going. And don't worry about the kid, he'll be fine," she said, looking more at the girl instead of Victor as she said the last part. She snapped her fingers once more and she was gone... along with the kid. The girl looked around, tears streaming down from her eyes. She was shaking her head in disbelief. "No..."

Victor looked at the spot where the kid had disappeared, then where the old lady had. There was a small necklace there, made of pearls. The odd thing was that the pearls were red, blue, and black, the same number of each spread out around the necklace.

Staring at the necklace, he thought about what had just happened. Who was the old lady? She had seemed to know a lot about him, and seemed like she was connected to a lot of things. Her mystery made him slightly scared of her. She had also given him some kind of powerful warrior to worry about, and a girl to look after. He looked at the necklace again. He wasn't sure whether he should take it or not. It could be dangerous, but it could also help him. He decided to take it. Dangerous or not, it would be more interesting to take it, and even though he knew that with that decision he was letting his youg and reckless side take over, he cared very little for it, because he doubted it could be any worse than all the things he had to worry about now.

The sun had already almost gone completely down, and it was getting dark fast. He pocketed the necklace and turned back to the girl. Her tears had stopped falling, but they were still wet on her cheeks. Feeling a strong sense of compassion, but not knowing if it was exactly that which propelled his actions, he took her face in his hands and wiped her tears away with his thumbs. She looked up at him, but her face was hard to read. He could see gratitude there, but he couldn't understand anything else. He let her go, feeling slightly embarrassed, then sat down with his back against a tree. He was not too comfortable with the idea of having a girl around to take care of, but he couldn't risk something happening to her because of him. The kid she had made him feel sorry for her, and the authority of the old woman made him feel responsible for her, so now he felt that she really was going to accompany him for the rest of his journey. Maybe her company wouldn't be too bad, and it would be good to have someone to talk to.

"Are you cold?" he asked her.

"A little bit," she said. It was the first time he heard her voice. It sounded pure and soft.

He got up, looked around for a few branches, then lit them with his sword. The fire was in between two trees, and she sat in the other one in front of him. He was so immersed in his thoughts that he forgot all about food, and soon, he drifted off to sleep. The old woman resurfaced in his dreams, but when he tried to remember them, his memory seemed to go blank.
