Prison
“Sir! I mean it! I didn’t steal the gems! I’m innocent!” pleaded Verna. Two guards were dragging the small Halfling away and thrown her into a cell. Verna hit the wall and groaned. Fangoth, this is the best time to break me out, once the guards leave, of course! said Verna. Wait patiently, for I am looking for somebody that will help me out… he answered. Verna shook her head and laid down on the bed.
Outside of the prison was Fangoth. He sat there, waiting for somebody that looked promising to come by him. But all he got was people staring at the rather large wolf that was sitting outside of the prison doors. The summer heat of Teirm was taking effect on him, and he was panting.

OOC- hope you don't mind me joining
IC-Lyla sat on the low roof, basking in the sun of the hot day. She could feel the heat seeping through her fur, gliding over her skin- it was bliss. She kneaded her paws against the dust which had settled atop the building from a recent sandstorm, and lazily eyed the pedestrians below.
A broad shouldered man with a bristle-adorned chin like an old scrubbing brush drove an ancient donkey, loaded with packs, towards the market place. Several women bustled about, children running betwixt their ankles, desperately trying to keep hold of their mischievous offspring- a group of men hurried along the track, desperate to unload their heavy anvils which they carried on both shoulders, clearly transporting them to another smithy. A large dog sat at the entrance to the prison, panting to release warmth in the heat of the day, a man with a portable market stall trundled... Hang on... Lyla paused her mental stream of observations to examine the dog more closely. That's a larger dog than ever I've seen, and it doesn't appear to have an owner. she observed.
That was the reaction she tended to get from humans a lot of the time too. "Look at this huge stray cat!" was all she heard if she mingled with them in this form. Silently, she slipped down onto the porch of the house, and leaped nimbly onto the street, landing with a soft thump. Scurrying towards the dog, she prayed that he was as intelligent as he looked to her, and not just a particularly large, particularly vicious stray...

Fangoth's ears perked up as he saw the rather large cat. Hello, werecat. It seems that we both get the same reactions from tall- excuse me, I meant humans. That halflings talk is getting to me... addressed Fangoth. He laid lazily on his back, exposing his belly. One of the youths went up towards him and slowly patted his belly. So much for waiting for somebody to help me.... said Fangoth in a lazy voice. He looked up at the cat, waiting for a reply from her.

Lyla eyed the animal carefully. He appeared to be a wolf, rather than a dog- his size betrayed him, as well as certain traits of the wild, and intelligence. Cautiously, Lyla sat near to him, not leaving his gaze. If it weren't for her curiosity, she would probably not have replied. Instead, she flicked her ears to keep alert for danger, as was her custom (despite her relaxed stance) and addressed him politely, if a little bluntly. Well met, wolf- if that is your true race. she let a "cattish" smile tug at the corner of he mouth. Forgive me for the blunt enquiry, but what exactly, do you need help with? she glanced sideways, as though expecting the answer to jump out at her from the shadows. No problem presented itself.

Well, you can say that I am a wolf. But few of my kind are alive. My race has been hunted down for many years.... sighed Fangoth. My friend she was tooken to prison because of her stealing something... I need to free her before she gets exucuted. He got up and licked the boy in the face. The boy giggled and ran away. Fangoth grinned doggishly. Well, at least you are intelligent, for the mutts around here are fools. And, every time I go near a cat, they always growl.... he said sadly, and then asked: So do you want to help me? Politics is what I don't deal wih, since I am a magical beast, but will you help me free my friend?

Lyla sighed slightly, casually dodging back to avoid a passing cart. I play no active part in politics either, but it is always interesting to see what is going on in the land. she replied wisely. And the presence of other magical creatures is always useful to follow up. she grinned. Scratching furrows in the dry ground with her claws, Lyla considered his request. Therefore, I will help, but I need to know the basics of the problem, as well as your plan. she proposed, and settled in a shallow dip, ready for an explanation.

Well, the problem is that my friend is going to be executed tomorrow for she has stolen a precious gem from some place. She is a thief and I won't be surprised if she is picking the locks of her cell already. My plan, he paused for a moment and then went on, is to make sure that she is safe and we kill the guards and we have escape. suggested Famgoth. If you have a better plan, then say it.

Lyla smiled with dim amusement at the so called plan. She peered behind her at the low barred windows lining the street at ground level. A basic plan, but a plan nonetheless. What tools could help your friend pick the lock of a cell? If they are available nearby, we can easily pass them to her through the barred windows. If not, you can try to gain entry and attack, whilst I squeeze between the window bars, and lend a dagger or claw for the keyhole, for they are as good as any lockpick. That way, it would be easier to escape with the guards killed and injured by you, not to mention the distraction... she suggested cunningly.
The werecat didn't usually take sides in disputes, just as she remained neutral in the power struggle, equally disgusted at the thought of joining the Varden as joining Galbatorix. However, she realised the opportunity for action could be fun, and the mention of a halfling intrigued her- not to mention the intelligent beast before her. By the way, my common name is Lyla.

Well, Lyla, it seems that is a wonderful plan. But I think Verna brought some thieves tools with her and hid them somewhere.... But, let's wait for night to do it. The scum the call themselves 'guards' will probably be a sleep or they are too drunk.... said Fangoth. By the way, my name is Fangoth. Ooo.... Since it is not midnight, do you think you could chat awhile... Hmm.... for a few more hours, of course! Are you native to this land, for I am not.... As you can tell!
While Fangtoh and Lyla were outside of the prison entrance, Verna was laying on the fithy bed, wondering when Fangoth was going to help her. She jolted out of the bed when she realized that she had her thieves tools on her and the guards didn't take them away. She searched her pockets, her boots, her sleeves and any other random place. Darn it! It seems that they were left inside of that cursed magic bag! she said, bewildered.

Lyla nodded primly. I can't exactly place where I was born, my childhood has kind of drifted into vague memories. But I do know that for as long as I can remember, I've been living in various towns. she explained. I suppose you could call me a wanderer- I head to wherever interesting things seem to occur. It seems my instinct was right again! she chuckled to herself. It is a shame though, that I never knew my family. I sometimes wish I could remember more of my past. An note of sorrow crept into her voice like blackness compressing her emotions. But... she brightened a little. Be grateful for what you have, right? she laughed again.
What of you though? Lyla enquired. I haven't seen your kind around here, or anywhere for that matter. You say you aren't native to this land? she asked in wonder.

Yes, I am not native here... I come from Avalia, and I don't know my parents too. I knew my mum for a few months when I was a little puppy. said Fangoth. Verna and I have been friends for five years so you can understand why I want to rescue her. You see, I meet her when The Hermit's wife found me...
My kind is scrace, because they were hunted down for many years for sport and for our meat, fur, anything that the barbarians could use. They worshiped my kind as if they were gods. We are only native to Avalia. I'm from the Northern Tundras of Avalia, so that is why I have such a thick coat.. he explained. And, not for me for I have long lost the ability, my kind's coat changes when the season's change..

Lyla sat for a short while gazing at passers by, and pondering what Fangoth had told her. She had always known that there must be lands outside of Alagaesia, but so far she had not spared much thought for them.
From the North you say? she confirmed. So did you cross Du Weldenvarden to arrive here? Or is your homeland across the sea? she asked with interest, dwelling on what he had said about having a thick coat. She examined her own bulky fur as she casually washed it, thinking that maybe, just maybe she herself wasn't as native to the South as she had imagined.
She reminisced about her infrequent trips into the massive expanse of dense forest known as Du Weldenvarden, but she had never considered crossing it. She had just presumed that the trees stretched forever- now she realised how idiotic that theory was. In this aspect, her usual logic seemed to have abandoned her.

ooc: sorry if i'm unwanted
ic: Cassiopeia had been riding for several days and now had decided to walk alongside her animals.
"What are you soexcited about Luciel" she asked the wolf he was jumping up and down sniffing the air.
I can smell another wolf Luciel said perking up
I sense a cat thought shadow nervously
"I sense nothing but a sunny day but why don't you hop on me shadow. Luciel you can run up ahead if it will end your random sniffing of the air" before she'd even finished he was running ahead following his nose.
He found the werecat and Fangoth and jumped excitedly
It's been a long time since I've met one of my kind.

No, I am from across the sea... You see, my land is very different, and the werecats from where I live aren't as majestic as the werecats here. They are cruel creatures... That are rather ugly too.... But, as you see, I am a unique species! he grinned happily.
He started to lick his furry paws thinking.
You speak of Du Weldenvarden, sounds interesting to me. And is it a forest? he asked. Then he jolted. Visitors! Hmm.... I hope they are not grunting mutts..... he added.

Lyla snapped her head to face the oncoming wolf, jumping to a standing position and placing her paws a fair width apart. The fur on the back of her nick prickled as she let out a threatening hiss. There was no way of telling if the animal was friendly yet- if it was an unintelligent beast, it might decide to attack.
Lyla could sense more presences approaching, who's being seemed different to the everyday citizens of the city. However, she could still not sense their intent- friend or foe, she had no way to tell.
Despite the interruption, she continued their conversation, not letting her gaze off the new visitor. It is, Du Weldenvarden is the great expanse where the elves and other mystical creatures dwell. I have been in a fair depth, but not much further than any elven cities... she paused wondering if she should be discussing the whereabouts of the elves with a being she hardly knew. Never mind- it was too late to take back her words now anyway. Any humans who have entered either came back mad, or not at all. she explained. Though some may have discovered what lay beyond, they have never returned to tell the tale. she crouched low as the white wolf spoke.

Fangoth sniffed. At least it is not as menencing as the Great Forest of Avalia. You do not want to know what happens to blighters, loggers, humans, and people who want to destory the forest. But I'll tell you anyway. The trees eat them, the druids get to them, highwayman kill them, orcs torture them, dire bears eat them, or the worst thing that could happen to them is to be sent to nothingness..... Fangoth felt like he was lieing, for he left out all of the other horrible things that will happen to intruders. The safest place there is the trail, and most know not to wander into the forest.. They leave children alone though.... He shifted uneasily.
The visitors are friendly.... he added. Or they seem friendly...
He started to growl, with his hackles up..

OOC: would it be okay if i joined?
IC: Wil sat on a dusty old mat in a decrepit old cell. He had been here for quite some time. The soldier's had been trying to drug every meal they gave him, and he always destroyed the poison magically. He'd been waiting for a diversion to escape the prison, but was just about to create his own. Kagraign, would you like to have some fun in the port city of Teirm? he asked. Kagraign's answer made him laugh a bit: If you'll promise to fly with me for the next year, I'll get you out, otherwise, you're gonna stay there. "Quiet you!" the guard on duty yelled. He was a short, heavy man who looked to have LDS (don't ask...) and took advantage of any bit of power he got. Wil sneered at him. "Y'know, not even magic can make you taller, right?" Wil said. The man grew furious. He almost jumped out of his chair and drew his sword. He unlocked Wil's prison and started in. Wil stood up. "You think that you can smart off to me and get out alive, think again!" the little man yelled. He reminded Wil of a halfling that Wil had met in a forest not long ago. "Thrysta!" Wil said. The man stopped, for a split second not understanding. Then, he was hurled back out of the cell, and slammed into the wall on the other side of the hallway. "That was easy." Wil said. He walked out and turned right. He approached the next cell and looked in. He couldn't believe it. "Verna!" he shouted. Then he cursed, for he heard the clanking footsteps of more soldiers. Wil broke the lock on Verna's cell, got in, and swung the cage shut, leaving it barely open. When he heard the soldiers coming, Wil yelled, "Thrysta!" and the door swung around on its hinges and killed the first. Then Wil rushed around the corner and dispatched the others. When he was done, Wil turned and looked at Verna. "What are you doing in here?" he asked.

Verna casully steped out of the prison cell, brushing off the grime from her pants. "Well met, Wil.... It seems we have met again! Well, I live a thief's life, so I stole a gem, and they caught me...." said Verna. " I was waiting for Fangoth to free me, but it seems like he is too busy to deal with me.... Now, this seems to be your native country, right? Well, I've arrived here a week ago because of those stupid portals......"
