Post The Hunger Games (plethora of spoilers within)
Soo, this movie is fantastic. Like, superb. I don't even know what to say except that if you haven't watched it yet, do not read any further, cause I might wreck stuff for you.

First off, how freaking close did they keep to the books. Like seriously, most everything was spot on, if it was excluded, its cause it wasn't that important to the overall trilogy story line (like Peeta's leg, Katniss's ear) and it wasn't there because the movie was so flipping long already.

Near the beginning I didn't really know what to think of the chick playing Katniss, I had seen lots of GIFs from interviews with her on Tumblr that made me really like her, near the beginning she seemed a bit... I dunno... forced? But then she got pretty badass.

One scene I didn't really like was the first scene in the cave, it seemed so cheesy to me. Sure they were purposely being over the top in the "star-crossed loves" guise, but still. It felt a bit awkward and forced.

Then the Muttations. They never explained what they were, so the people who haven't read the books were probably just like "holy jeebus, that thing scared the crap out of me when it jumped out at Peeta" but what first got me was when they just had the 3D thing on the computer, I literally just about puked, It was so horrifying, even if they didn't say what they were.

Also, da flip with Gale, I didn't really like how they kept just bouncing back to him, showing his reaction, it seemed unnecessary. But then again I'm biased to Team Peeta, and Team Gale would probably be screaming for blood at his lack of screen time.

One thing I was disappointed by, even though it is not even that important to the story, was the scene when they get taken out of the ring. It is such an intense scene in the book and I was looking forward to how well the actors/actresses would do it, but then when it got to them leaving the cave and Peeta's leg was like totally healed already I was like what the flip. Nu-uh. Thats not how it goes. But I guess it wasn't hugely important...

Asides from the little things I've pointed out, I really liked the movie. My sis and I have had several conversations about how North American TV shows and movies just aren't as emotionally grabbing as British TV shows and movies, a character dies or even starts tearing up in an American show, some people (girls mostly) will start crying with them, but me I'm like meh, whatever, its just a character. Show me an emotional episode of Doctor Who or Sherlock and I start tearing up.
But with this movie I can honestly say I was feeling emotion. So many times I found my heart just pounding so hard! And during the first interview when they show her waiting to go on stage, and her hesitation when she's called, I had the same gut wrenching feeling I get when I have to speak in front of people. And ah! I can't even list all the emotions I was feeling!

In summary, great movie, good actors/actresses, excellent adaption, go see it if you haven't.

Oh, and Go Team Peeta.

I loved the movie. :) As you say, it followed the books almost exactly, and only dropped/changed things that weren't important.

When the muttation leaped out of the darkness at Peeta, the entire theater I was in freaked out, it was amazing. :) I would definitely watch it again. :)

I agree, I thought this movie was great! They really did a good job keeping in stuff that was important and the stuff they added helped add to the movie, like when Peeta was waving to the Capitol people when they were on the train and showing the Game makers during the actual Games. Some people were disappointed with it, saying it wasn't as good as the books, but obviously that's going to happen, no movie is ever as good as the books! I'm excited that it did very well though. Its opening weekend was the 3rd highest grossing ever, only behind The Dark Night and the Deathly Hallows Part 2, so Catching Fire will definitely happen :)

Seriously, people were disappointed? :? I don't see how they could be, unless they were fans of the books. Even the author said she loved the stuff they added in, because it just layered on what she had already set down about the whole dis-topian society and the Capitol's control.

This song doesn't appear until Mockingjay, but you should check out this rendition of the The Hanging Tree

I have to say that I was pretty disappointed with the movie. It was amazing of course and I have definitely seen it several times but there are things that they messed up that could not bode well in the future movies. Some of the things mentioned that were left out were pretty important and I know that any real fan would sit through a 3 hour long movie to get all the other important details in.

(And honestly not to diss anyone but I'm pretty disgusted with the whole Team Peeta and Team Gale and Team Katniss and blah blah blah. Such a hitch off of Twilight which I am also not a fan of.)

But I do think Peeta having to lose his leg was a pretty important detail.... it's part of his body for heaven's sake.

And I do think that Jennifer Lawrence was an amazing actor. A lot better than most of the others including Josh Hutchinson and whoever played Gale. She did an amazing job as Katniss where the others fell short.

I also did not like the cave scene toward the end. No offense to Josh but he did not play up as Peeta at all. Peeta in the book would have been crawling out of that cave to get to Katniss when she left because she didn't give him the sleeping liquid in the movie... and his play on being sick wasn't that great at all.

Also, I think you are just referring to the dogs at the end because they didn't explain the entire concept of the mutts but they did talk about the tracker jackers. And the announcers wouldn't really know how to explain it because they were most likely made especially for that Games and unless they had a link to Seneca they couldn't really say. They would also have to do close ups on Glimmer and the others and have an epiphany with Katniss or Peeta for them to recognize them. Having announcers cut in during a scene a the end as intense as that would ruin the moment too. Oh and the cutting back to show Gale I thought was a good addition. It did get some laughs and he is a main character so to exclude him when he is going to play pretty big ish parts in at least the third book would make no sense.

Some of the things I didn't like: Though I did love how Katniss's dress looked for her interview it was way way to close to what is supposed to happen to her dress in the second book which Cinna gets killed for. Also the other tributes were not on stage the entire time for the interview scene which kills it for the second book. The part where they hold hands is pretty important. The fence leading to the forest nowhere near the actual trees so the scene where the electricity comes back on and the whole scene leading up to Katniss talking to President Snow is going to be different though in itself it would have to be long and it's unimportant and blah, but I still loved that scene. I was also pretty disappointed with how her Prep Team looked. The tracker jacker scene I didn't like so much either. Glimmer's body didn't really do what it was supposed to in reaction to the tracker jackers but that would be a hard thing to pull off. I didn't like Katniss's reaction to it all. I expected it to be much more extreme like it was in the books (Also her wounds didn't even exist in the movie). And Cato's little rant at the very end wasn't very good. The acting could have been better.

Annnd that is it for my little rant. The movie was still amazing and this is one of the only movies I will get on DVD and such but yeah. I am very interested to see how Catching Fire turns out. Finnick better be smoking!

Can't wait: November 2013
