Ok, this has come up in two threads that ive read. In the first i said i didnt think she had controll of magic, i the second i said she might. And in this one i am saying she might. I think that the mark saphira gave her could very possibblly giver her the abbility to controll magic. Glaedr tells Saphira and Eragon that in the very earliest days of Alagaesia, people could controll magic, just by will. However it would often be to much and would kill them if they werent strong enough to controll it. This is how Izlanzadi made flowers fall from the sky without speaking, and how the elf Eragon was sparing with freed himself from Eragongs spell, which didnt allow him to speak. So maybe Elva is just strong enough that she can do this. She told Nasuada that she couldnt do any thing about the pain and suffering she was feeling, so she grew bigger. She also may have cooled her room, which is disscused in another thread called "how did angela make the air cold in the castle room". Who else thinks this is a possibiollity??

It's a slim possibility that she has powers. Remember, that Eragon has to remove his curse, and she will probably get to her correct size.

I think Eragons curse has nothing to do with it. I think it has everything to do with Saphira's mark on her forehead. I dont think shes bonded to Saphira but I think it gave her that abilitty. So Eragon removing his curse would still leave Saphira's mark.

I agree with you.... What I thought that since she has the mark, she has the ability to use magic at a young age. I also thought that was the reason why she ate so much.

Whoa i just thought of something else. But its stupid and makes no sense at all. i was gonna say she was eating because the magic was taking upher energy, but as far as we know it just makes you tirede not hungry. she may also eat because she is punished for not helpinng some one in trouble by retchinng (a.k.a. throwing up) which could also make her jungry cause shes emptying her stomach. kinda gross.. and third mabey her abilitty to sense pain affects her like that.. it is a kind of magic, butmaybe it just makes her hungry instead of killing her. oh one more, she did make herself grow big and learn to talk fairlly quicklly. id call it a growth spurt on speed, so shed probabblly eat mor, just like going through a normal groth spurt.

For the two people who already voted, yes i changed the question. i was talking about besides her power to sense pain and protect from it. if that changes your answer just say so.

Well i get that, but some would say her part in this book was insugnifficant. i dont see it as that but some might. so how insignificant of a role is she gonna play? where did he say that. I mean Eragon cursed this girl, they cant just throw her out of the story.

i think eragon and saphira are to attached to this girl to just leave her.

Oromis told him what he had really done? he hated himself. he wont just fix it and say oh well thats that, and not care weather it works out. and saphira is as much eragon as he is her so she will feel the same way, plus she gave her the mark. thats gotta do something. im not sure what, but it just has to mean something...

hes gonna wanna know how it works out. hes not just gonna desert her. i dont think he'll see that its all he can do and then just leave it. hes just not that kinda guy.

But i dont think he'll stay away. he'll come back. or the varden will fowllow them, or the varden will move and he'll go see them there. hes not gonna juat leave ANY of them. Arya, Nasuada, Elva, Orik. thats not gonna be the end of his interactions with the varden. I jusrt dont think it will happen.

Powers by which she can see pain a couple hours in advance, telling the future through pain and suffering in advance to their occurrence is definitely power if you ask me.

I am not saying she doesnt have POWER. she does have the power tto sense pain and suffering even a few hours into the future. but i think she has additional powers through saphirahs mark.

Eragon gave her the ability to shield others from pain. Nothing more, and Nothing else. There is no "caterpillar SHE HATH ZE POWAR 2 REED Minds!"

did you read any of the first three pages. we are SUGGESTING that because of the mark Saphira gave her, ELva mayhaveother powers.

i think she has more powers than sensing pain and i think she will be a very key factor in book three, she will use her "other" powers before this trilogy ends

i dont think so. he just made her a shield then saphira touched her and then they flew away

The Ancient Language does what it is told to do. Nothing more Nothing else. the mark was probably just a mark that would keep the "blessing" in palce

yes that is a possibbilitty. But the mark was saphirra's own gift. IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH ERAGONS CURSE. noone is debating the fact that she can sense pain because of hte words that Eragon said in the AL. Noone is saying that Eragon gave her other powers. we get that he made her a shield. BUT MAYBE SHE HAS OTHER POWERS! POWERS TAHT WERE GIVEN TO HER BY SAPHIRAH NOT ERAGON!!! try reading some of the first two pages. its got some pretty good debate between myself and Lord Zaragonth that testifies that it is highlly likelly she has other powers.

All i saw on page 2 ad 1 that had any significance were what zaran.. said about being young. I am sorry but what you said was somewhat meaningless, other than when you said that saphira was connected.

My input: Eragon gets his magic through saphira correct? In order to make a spell stronger you can also merge powers with your dragon right? So thats basically what they did. They merged powers and the scar was just a sign of the curse.

we think that since saphira and Eragon are two totally separate people and dont have to rely on each other for magic, that maybe saphira gave Elva powers as well. there are several testements to this, such as her making herself grow larger, and possibbly cooling the room. please explain to me why the curse HAS to be connected to saphirah's mark!????

In order to prove something wrong you need only one Counter Example, but to prove something correct, you have to make it so ALL the counter examples are neutralized.

EXACTLLY!!! YOUI SAID IT YOUR SELF! in these books a magician is someone who can control and direct energy. That is how Eragon explains magic while studying with Oromis. So if she is a magician, (which is a peson who can do magic, magic being the base word of MAGICian) you are saying she has powers othere than sensing pain, which is the power Eragon gave her. she doesnt do it because she wants to but because she has to. which wouldnt be her controlling and directing, it would be something else. so she isnt doing the magic, which would not make her a magician, and since you said she was a magician, she must have other powers.

Whoever it was that sad hell. You seem to be stumbling with your background. However, wasn't this whole thread about the powers Eragon gave her? She could've just been gifted with magic in the first place. Magic is not a power, its a gift.
