I think so because Brom told Eragon that he would be easily defeated by an elf if he ever fought one so he had to ensure that Eragon wouldn't be killed by an elf when he met one. I think that it worked out pretty well, considering that they saved Eragon from being killed by Arya.

Um, that's what we think the words that Brom told Eragon meant. It never told us what the words were, and the first time we heard those words was when Eragon entered Arya's mind. It just ties in so well with what happened, I can't think of anything else for the words to be.

I do not have my Eragon book, since I loan it to my upstairs neighbor, but I am 98% sure it says that he whispered the seven words and then told him the meaning, therefore we would need to assume that the words totaled seven, when spoken in the ancient languange, not in the English language.
