The Book Suggestion Topic
Ok, I didn't really see any ACTIVE topics like this, so I decided to make one. This is the topic where let's say you're reading a really good book and want others to read it, then post it here with some information. Also for people who are looking for a good book can come here. I'll go first, I suggest the series
The Secrets of the Immortal Nicholas Flamel. It's about twins named Sophie and Josh Newman who are destined to either save the world, or destroy it. This book follows them learning the elemental magics and being taught by Nicholas Flamel. I like how every chapter is from a different person's point of view (It's not of the same thing.) This is great for Science Fiction fans and anyone who loved Eragon.
Books Suggested: The Secrets of the Immortal Nicholas Flamel The Supernaturalist Artemis Fowl Pendragon Charlie Bone Twilight Series Wind of Fire Gracling Eon Dragoneye Reborn Uglies, Pretties, Specials Elfen Lied Harry Potter Series Dragon Rider of Pern Executive Orders Hoot Warrior Princess Airframe Once Upon a Marigold Journey of Red Sea Memories of a Geisha Old Yeller Not as Crazy as I Seem Hole in My Life The Alex Rider Series Soldier Boys The Hunger Games Catching Fire The Daniel X Series Nineteen Minutes Tithe Triology Wicked Loudly Wind of the Fire Triology The King Arthur Triology The Mortal Instruments Life Expectancy Daughter of the Lioness Patrick Bowers Thrillers The House of Night

Charlie Bone is about a guy who can go into pictures and loads of other people callled Children of the Red King who can do magic and stuff. It's basically a good vs. evil sort of thing. I loved the Pendragan Series by D.J McHale, they are REALLY good

Yeah the Charlie Bone books are good if you don't have a good memory or you wait awhile after you finish one, then it could be hard remembering stuff. there's like 7 books out and after i finished the 6th I had to wait for book 7 (plus I was reading Eldest and Brisingr) I got it for Christmas this year I couldn't remember anything like characters, places, and other imortant stuff from the other books.

Re: The Book Suggestion Topic
Uglies, Pretties, and Specials ~ Scott Westerfeld I read these books years ago, and they remain my favorites to this day. Nothing compares to them, in my mind..
It's obvious why I like them:
Wikipedia wrote:
Set in a future post-scarcity dystopian world in which everyone is turned "Pretty" by extreme cosmetic surgery upon reaching age 16, Uglies tells the story of teenager Tally Youngblood who rebels against society's enforced conformity. In the story, the people who first founded New Pretty Town and Uglyville created the operation to help prevent war and anger...which had caused the extinction of the "Rusties". Living in a world of diminished resources and high technology, a reduced population has retreated into a relatively few metropolises after an unremembered global catastrophe, leaving behind the "Rusty Ruins" of decaying cities in the abandoned stretches of countryside. Society is structured into a rigid caste system of littlies (children), uglies (adolescents), new pretties (teenagers and young adults), middle and late pretties (adults), and crumblies (retired adults). The city-state governments administer the cosmetic surgery to foster conformity, purging humanity of ruinous competition and jealousy.
Uglies "plays on adolescent changes, both physical and emotional." The book and series as whole addresses the issues of conformity, body image and individuality, as well as the impact of strong peer pressure.

I would recommend Harry Potter, though I'm sure you've heard of that already.
Can we say books that we would recommend not reading?

Oh, okay. Avatar is kinda the opposite. It was originally a show, but they made some books based off of it.
Great show by the way ^^ Check it out!
Assuming the answer to my previous question was "yes" because I'm too impatient for a reply, I would suggest not reading To Kill A Mockingbird. Here's why: It's a book that we have to read in school. That should say enough.

Re: The Book Suggestion Topic
the best books I've read are the Dragonriders of Pern series by Anne McCaffrey. (just so you know the Inheritance Cycle is #2). Anne's books take place on the planet Pern thousands of years from now. a group of people who don't like how things are going on Earth, colonize the planet. when they do they find little dragonlike creatures. then disaster strikes when a mindless organism falls from the sky and destroys all organic material. the colonists genetically engineer the Fire Lizards(the dragonlike creatures) to grow bigger and become ride able. the organism from the sky can only be destroyed via fire and the Fire Lizards, once changed can breathe fire. the series ties Fantasy and Sci-Fi together wonderfully.
i just got this book Warrior Princess it was totaly calling out my name!!!
as i was reading it the beginning reminded me a lot of Xena's begginng, like how her brother was killed and her home was atacked
but theirs still a lot of differences

Re: The Book Suggestion Topic
This topic hasn't been posted in for a while. Two really good books are Once upon a marigold-It's about a boy who grows up with a troll, then he begins to watch the royal family across the river through his telescope-especially the youngest princess. He falls in love, though he doesn't realize it until later, and they get to know eachother by sending letters with carrier pigeons, and i won't tell you the rest. The other one is Journey to the River Sea. It's about a girl whose parents have died, and she goes to live with some distant relations. They have a set of twins, a bit older than her, and it turns out that they're all really nasty, particularly the twins. She meets a boy who lives in the jungle, and there's two detectives from england who are looking for him.

Okay, that was a joke XD But now, seriously ... the entire Uglies trilogy is quite worth reading. Don't listen to the stereotypes saying about how only 6th grade girls going to the beach can read it, though. [True story]

Okay, I need a list of book series for my library. (The librarian took pity on the fact that I've read most of our books at school, and told me to come up with a list of interesting series.) If it wouldn't be to much trouble for y'all, could you also include a sort of summary? Thnx, and the students of ______________ thank you.

Yippee! Thank you! Alright, my brain is a bit foggy right now, i can't think of any books, but a really great authour is Diana Wynne Jones.
I'm not sure. They're in a more Medieval setting with mages, knights, etc, but no dragons.

Lol, I've read them Arya. I thought they were good, but I liked the original better. (I can't remember what the series was called exactly, but it was about Alanna.) You should read her other series about Tortall...I think there are four of them, including the one's about Alanna and her daughter.
Although I think a couple of years ago she wrote a book/series about one of George Cooper's ancestors...(George aka Alanna's husband, master thief, and baron.)

Oh, yeah, the one I'm reading is about Aly, who is Alanna's daughter .... and there's a series of 4 that comes before this, as you said ... I might read them all later. The one I'm reading now is pretty good. Interesting and moves at a good pace.

Wait, nobody ever said what those Age of Fire books were about.
I'm reading a really long series called the Wheel of Time right now. I almost quit the first few chapters of the first book because it moves really slow, but I managed to get through it. I'm about halfway done with it right now. Like I said, it moves slow, but it's actually pretty good if you can handle it.

@Saphirarox: Y'know, often times when a person goes on about how a certain someone annoys them, there are often some kind of crush-type feelings involved, underneath it all ... Haha, jk! XD
Did anyone ever read a novel called Nineteen Minutes by Jodi Piccoult? It was rather good, I think. Kind of a court case book though, not big into the fantasy or adventure genres.

@Shade: Nuh-unh, Perrin is the bomb. He has yellow eyes AND can talk to wolves. It doesn't get better than that. (I lurv yellow eyes, but only me and one other person I've ever seen have them.) I would LOVE to be able to talk to wolves though. Where I'm at though, he isn't to thrilled about it.
@D_G_177: I think I've read those. Aren't they about the twin boy and girl? I can't remember their names, but I think the girl's name was something like Wren...

@Shade: I dunno, the whole evil-dagger thing was kind of freaky. That's why he's not my fav charry. I keep expecting it to take him over completely and make him turn on them. From what I've read, the wolves don't have a name for him, but then again I'm only in the last 50-or-so pages of the first book. That might come in one of the next books. Have you read all of them?
@D_G_177: Lol, that's it. Kestrel is a species of bird, and I remembered her name had something to do with a bird.

Yup, if you read his author's Bio it says that he wanted to write till they freaking nailed his coffin shut. I don't think he could have gotten any closer...
died of some rare blood poisoning I think... and that makes a lot of books... (considering how it started as a 7 book set, and I think I read a 13th one...)

The Sorceress: The Secrets of the Immortal Nicholas Flamel just came out (yeah, I bought it opening day =D) And I enjoy it so far. I still completely suggest the series.

I would recommend The Dark Tower series by Stephen King to just about anyone I meet. It's seven books long and it's pretty good. It's no LOTR trilogy, but it is good in its own right.

The King Arthur Trilogy by Rosemary Sutcliff is well worth reading if you like myths and adventure it covers everything from the sword in the stone to the grail quest.

The Hunger Games
So far I think only Alex and I have read this on the forum. The Hunger Games is one of the most amazing books I've ever read. No. Joke. It's full of suspense that literally had me scared. Suzanne Collins is a master writer, tugging every emotion. You really want Kat to stay alive.
It's about North American that is now divided into 12 Districts (once 13) under the rule of the Capitol. The entire country is now called Panem. Every year, one boy and one girl from each District between the ages of 12-18 is picked at random to compete in The Hunger Games. The Hunger Games is a live TV show held in a gigantic arena that could hold any obstacles or landforms/scapes, where every boy and girl fights to the death. The one remaining wins eternal glory, food, wealth (important in this very poor country) but all the other 23 losers die.
Katniss's sister Primrose is called to participate, but she's only 12. Kat, 16, volenteers in her place and is taken to compete in The Hunger Games.
This book is full of so much suspense I read 453 pages of it in a few hours nonstop lol.

Y'all should try the Daniel X books by James Patterson. They're pretty crazy, but they're funny to. Daniel and Max have a lot in common when it comes to attitude, so I think that makes it worth reading right there, lol! And he has a really cool ability. I don't want to spoil anything, so just read the book.

I suggest people to read Wicked Lovely. It's about faeries, but it's more than that. This girl discovers that she's the Summer Queen, and she's supposed to be this guy's true love or whatever, but she loves someone else. It turns out kind of weird, but the next couple of books are called Ink Exchange and Eternal Glass. It's a really good series if anyone likes faeries, romance, and epicness.

Another good book would be Stoneheart. It's about gargoyals that come to life and this boy's the only one who can see them. This girl can too, but for all the wrong reasons. It's really cool!

Re: The Book Suggestion Topic
The Tithe trilogy was really good. Its about faeries and humans. They main charry, Kaye, is really unusual and makes the books even better. Tithe is first, then Valiant, then Ironside. And they're modernized, too.

For all the wrong reasons; she's considered a 'bad luck' charm in the book or something like that. I don't want to give too much away. It's really good.

I thought To Kill a Mockingbird was really good. I remember having it for years and not reading it and then I made myself start reading and I just couldn't stop.

Her romance novels are pretty good. If you want fantasy try Dragons in our Midst by Bryan Davis,Inkheart,or The Circle of Magic.

If anyone likes Dean Koontz, or actually anything with suspense, then you should read Life Expectancy. It is one of the most amazing books I have ever read, I absolutely loved it! It had suspense, and romance, and humor, and terror, and it was just amazing! Beautifully written, with well-rounded and well-developed characters. And, of course, an awesome story that had many characteristics of a Dean Koontz book.

If you're looking for a good Nonfiction book, I just finish Columbine by Dave Cullen. Very Very good book.

I often wonder what's to live for. I just want this pain to go away All I have are fading memories, pieces of my broken yesterday They say every drop of blood meant something. Here I am, I'm waiting for you, crying out I've fallen to my knees.
I recommend 2 books: The Pigman by Paul Zindel and Kira-Kira by Cynthia Kadohata. The Pigman-I originally had to read this book for summer reading. I wasn't really looking forward to it that much. But as I started reading it I got deep into it. It became my favorite book and it's amazing. I also like it because when Lorraine was explaining John I thought of him as really cute. And anything with cute guys i'm so totally there. 10/10
Kira-Kira- This book really dug deep into me.All i can say is it's about a little girl and her japanese family and her sister. I cried at the end. I believe that Kira-kira stands for glittering or sparkling in japanese. 9/10

I love end of the world stories, but I hate horror stories. I once was listening to a book on CD called Count Karlstein in the middle of the night with the lights out and I got freaked out.

I completly understand you there. I know a girl that went to go see New Moon at midnight then watched it three more times in theaters. I didn't go to see it untill a month after it came out. My brother says that some girls at his school want Edward to bite them. Weird.

The Things They Carried by Tim O'Brien. amazing book. about a platoon of soldiers in the Vietnam war. A very interesting book and it is at some points very dark and occasionally disturbing. (NOT a spoiler) At one point where a man named Curt Lemon steps onto a rigged 105 Howitzer round and is blown up, two men are ordered to climb up a tree he was under when it exploded and pick his remains off of the tree, at this point the platoon leader begins to sing "Lemon Tree".
