Post Sea Magic
Quickly, quickly! They're gaining on us! Darian said, glancing over her shoulder. She looked forward just in time to see a small, two-wheeled cart rolling into their path, the man pulling the handle-bars looking at them with wide eyes. She grimaced, then rose up in her stirrups and leaned forward a bit. Lyssand neatly jumped the cart with a foot to spare.

I'm going as fast as I can in these ridiculous streets. The piers aren't that far away. Don't tell me you can't sense the ocean is close, the piebald replied irritably. His small, painted hoofs neatly picked their way across the cobblestones. For a horse no bigger than a pony, he was fast, much faster than the bulky war animals chasing after them. Darian winced when she heard the crash and squeal of pain that signaled one of the horses had failed to clear the cart. She glanced over her shoulder worriedly, her heart twinging painfully when she saw the blood pouring down the creatures back legs.

He must have went down on his knees, they were all bloodied up to, she thought sadly. Even with the proper care, they would scar and after that, no nobleman would keep him in his stables. She gritted her teeth and resisted the urge to turn Lyssand and go back to help the injured horse.

As it was, there were three still hot on their trail. Lyssand, I'm going to bail off when we reach the piers. I'll push the boat out to sea and when we're far enough out, I'll join you, she said to her mount, looking around. They were only a few streets away from their destination.

Fine, but make sure I'm close enough to make the jump before you push it too far, he said back.

To buy a little time, Darian clapped her hands in front of her, then spread them apart rapidly. A thin vein of water formed in front of her, then formed a bar. Darian fixed the bar of water between two walls, then rode through it before freezing it solid. She grinned when she heard the grunts of pain when two of the riders smashed into the bar with their chests. She looked back to see them rolling on the ground fighting to breathe as their mounts reared and kicked in fear, the last rider was far enough behind them to have seen what happened and ducked when he reached the bar.

The span of time it took for the riders to reach the bar and collide with it only took a few seconds, but in that time Lyssand had reached the wharves. Darian crouched in the saddle, her feet sure on Lyssand's back, then stood. She waved cheerily to the last horseman, then dove headfirst into the water. As soon as she hit, she propelled herself through the seawater with her powers. She reached the last boat on the left almost as soon as Lyssand did. She lifted herself out of the water using her powers, a pillar of it lifting her gently.

She pulled her hands back to her chest, took a deep breath, then shot her hands forward and exhaled. The boat shot forward on a massive wall of water, the back tilting up and forward until it looked as if the boat would flip end over end. Darian grinned when she heard the whinnying protests from her mount, clearly upset that she had almost moved too soon. "Be seeing you," she called to the soldier, laughing at the look on his face as his head whipped back between her with the pillar of water swirling about her hips to the boat and the thirty-foot wave it was riding.

With a gentle push of her mind, she ordered the water holding her up to catch her up to the boat. Before long she was speeding along over the top of the water, watching it pass beneath her feet as her pillar bore her along. After a few minutes she looked back and was pleased to see the piers and boats of the city were far away and barely visible. She released her hold on the water pushing the boat along, making it drop with a loud crash, then she allowed her pillar to drop her into the sea beside it. She flipped in the air, turning the fall into a dive and sliced neatly into the water.

She surfaced and laughed aloud, coming alongside the boat with a swift breaststroke. "Oi! Drop me a line will you?" she yelled, waving a sodden arm at one of the crew above. She snatched at the cotton lifeline when it splashed down beside her, hanging onto it tiredly as they dragged her on board.

"Did you get it?" the captain asked her.

"Of course I did! It was my mission, wasn't it?" she retorted, removing a waterproof pouch from inside her sleeve. She handed it to the captain, then walked over to Lyssand and rubbed his neck. Thank you, my friend. I wouldn't have made it out of there if it hadn't been for your swift legs, she said softly, enjoying his warmth.

Of course you would have, it just wouldn't have been so smooth an exit, he said daintily, but he knickered anyway and rubbed his forehead against her chest, scratching a spot on his blaze.

She smiled and back away before he pushed her over, reaching over to scratch the itchy spot with her fingers. "After this, we'll have plenty of gold to get on with our real mission. I must say, these Varden folk pay their spies-for-hire very well. I would have done it for twenty gold pieces and a new rig," she said, indicating her worn out clothes.

"Perhaps, but now we have ensured your services for future use," the captain said with a grin. Darian turned and smiled at him, then turned her shoulder to him, indicating she was done speaking for the moment.

"When you've rested up a bit, come to my cabin so the rest of the officers and I can debrief you. Word came through there might have been something else interesting back there, and we want to know what all you saw," he said, turning to walk off. Before he had gone more than a few steps, Darian sensed something strange in the water. She turned to the railing... and all hell broke loose.

OOC: Either she just sensed a Nidwhal, or it could be a charry, either is fine by me. *really thinks it would be cool if it was a Nidwhal...*

OOC: That can be a Nidwhal lol I'll just have Railyn kinda observe for a little bit *whispers* whats a Nidwhal? lol. XD

IC:

Railyn had just finished her business on the mainland, seeing the part of the Spine she had heard so much about from her mother. She had managed to see many strange creatures all recorded in her journal. Rai felt very proud of herself, she was almost as good as Elcyon as it was she who taught Rai how to draw and write in the first place. It had been hard for her at first simply because Rai held little patience towards anything for very long with a short attention span to match. Neither a good thing to combine. She examined her journal her mother made her, hugging close to her chest and feeling closer to her mother in this way. It was the one thing she and Elcyon shared and that made Rai feel better whenever she was away from home.

Speaking of which, Rai knew it was time for her to fly along back to the island so that she could return to her family. Equinox was sure to give her a strict talking to, with Elcyon being more light-hearted towards her youngest daughter and coaxing Equinox out of his grump. It always (well, most of the time) worked. Rai strapped her journal to her pouch that she and her sister Incindea made together and opened her wings to take off. It had been so long since Incindea and Railyn hung out, but Cin was the oldest, and she had other responsibilities she had to attend to. Perhaps Rai would talk her ears off and then Cin would have to stay and talk like old times even if it was for five minutes.

Rai took off into the sky within minutes, her silvery-blue scales shimmering against the sun. It felt good to get out from underneath the cooler undergrowth of the Spine and into the warm air. Not far was the coast, and Rai was eager to get a head-start before the sun went down below the horizon.

From a distance, Rai could hear a commotion. She cocked her head as she flew faster towards the noise. There was a ship floating in the water, with something erupting from the surface towards them. She couldn't make out what it was at first but decided to go and help them if she could.

OOC: Sorry I haven't posted yet. I have been at soccer conditioning for the last few hours. X___X I don't have any character that'd be cruising underwater, so I'll leave it to the Nidwhal. Since Darian is doing spy-work for the Varden, I'll assume this is before Inheritance?

IC:

Elisa glided along the waves, her flapping wings sending ripples in the green-blue water. Hawke sat in the saddle placed on her back, leaning forward with his hands around a neck-spike. They were going at an intense speed now, one that they had rarely reached before. Hawke had to squint so that a) his eyelashes would catch the water droplets speeding towards his face; and b) the wind wouldn't make his eyes bleed so much.

It was then that Hawke noticed a ship not too far away. Hawke cursed, immediately contacting Elisa. Elisa, ship: two o'clock! he shouted. However, her mind was currently focused on something else.

Elisa thought she had seen something moving in the water beneath them, but she wasn't too sure. She hadn't taken the caution that she should have, since she hadn't heard of anything dwelling in the sea that could prove harm to a dragon. Just then, something erupted out of the water directly in front of Elisa. She heavily collided into it, twisting through the air from the sheer impact. She lost control and her side plowed harshly into the water. The impact had knocked Hawke clear off the saddle, sending him nearly fifty feet away from Elisa. He too crashed in the water.

He reacted quickly however, manipulating the wind currents to pull him out of the water. It was in a haphazard movement--but out of the water nonetheless. He then hovered about thirty feet in the air, staring warily at the water. "Elisa, get out of the water!" he shouted. Whatever they had crashed into wasn't small, and she might be in trouble if she didn't get out soon.

Incendia sniffed the air, she couldn't say why but something didn't smell right. Below her what seemed to be fighting caught her attention. She flew down, though she should have been back in the Spne by now as she told her father and mother, she just wanted to explore a little more, besdies, Equinox nor Elcyon would mind, at least Elcyon wouldn't, his father though was a different story at times. It wasn't long until a famier sight caught her eye. She flew down surprised to see Railyn.
Railyn? What's happened here? she called.

Post Re: Sea Magic
Darian stumbled and grabbed ahold of Lyssand's mane as the short horse splayed his hooves and braced himself on the heaving deck. Salt-water swamped over the sides of the boat, dousing Darian once more. She coughed and spluttered, her eyes streaming. With a wave of her hand, the water flew from the boat and no more of the giant waves washed over their heads. The water around them still churned at a frightening rate, sending the boat tossing from side to side.

"What's happening?" she yelled, looking for the captain. To her dismay, he was nowhere to be seen. Sudden screams from in the water made her guts clench with fear and she lurched unsteadily to the railing. Her face paled when she spotted half of the crew trying desperately to stay above water as some unknown force dragged them under, one by one. "Captain!" she yelled, spotting him by the bright red bandanna he wore around his neck, the one she knew his youngest daughter had given to him.

She cast out with her power and he flew towards the ship on a pillar of water, like she had earlier. Just when it seemed like he was safe, something reared up out of the water behind him and struck like a snake, swallowing him whole. The spy cried out, reaching out as if to grab him, even though it was too late.

She looked up at the creature that was attacking them, and it was as if the time slowed down as she gazed into it's bottomless, hungry black eyes. The wooden deck beneath her feet didn't rock so fast or rough, the water dripping from it's massive jaws fell as if through molasses. All the while she glared murderously at the creature. She knew what it was immediately.

One of the sea serpents of old, a bane to any dragon foolish enough to swim in the waters far out to sea. Never had one been seen this close to land, with the coast still in sight, so far as she knew, yet here it was. It was an ugly beast, with grey skin, no legs, and fins that mocked the form of dragon wings. Worst of all was it's face, full of gnashing teeth and the two eyes that screamed with a dark intelligence. Everything about the creature named it as one of the dark cousins of the dragons, the treacherous Nidwhal.

"Lyssand! Get below deck, NOW!" she yelled at the piebald as time sped up to normal once more. He didn't say anything, just started walking slowly and carefully across the deck towards a doorway that led down. She grimaced, realizing he'd have a hard time on steps meant for men's feet, but there was no time to lower him down through one of the cargo holes with the ships pulley system.

Shoving her friend to the back of her mind, she took a deep calming breath, then looked back to the Nidwhal, a peaceful expression on her face. She exhaled and slid her left foot out in front of her slightly, inhaled. Exhaled, and crossed her arms in front of her in the ready position. Inhaled. Stared straight into the Nidwhal's eyes. It was watching her now, ignoring the last of the men scrambling for their lives in the water. So intense was it's concentration, it wasn't undulating it's serpentine body beneath them anymore and the waters around the boat were stilling.

Exhale. She shoved off with her right foot, spinning on the ball of her left foot, her arms deadlocked in front of her. As she spun, a wall of glittering spikes formed on the railing of the boat, each almost ten feet long and pointing at the perfect angle to pierce gray flesh if the Nidwhal tried to attack the boat directly. When she finished her rotation, she caught herself on the ball of her right foot and inhaled. The Nidwhal wasn't entranced anymore, it had identified her and the boat as a threat now, and was focused on easier prey, the men trapped in the water.

"Hey ugly!" she cried, stepping forward again. She didn't know where the men who hadn't been swept overboard had went, but she was alone on the deck. "Pick on someone your own size!" With that she focused entirely on the water, pouring energy into it as it rose up into a cyclone of pure water that was much larger than the Nidwhal. Her face turned white and her vision darkened as she urged the cyclone to attack the Nidwhal and ignore the men it so desperately wanted to suck up into it's watery heart.

She blinked as something huge and glittering slammed into the Nidwhal, and her control over the cyclone wavered. It swerved dangerously close to one of the crew members, but she snarled and set it back on it's path. Keeping her mind focused on the swirling water, she looked around for what had hit the Nidwhal. She noted grimly that with the impact it had sank below the surface of the water, probably recovering for another attack. Then she saw what was in the water, and the small figure hovering over it. "GET THAT DRAGON OUT OF THERE!!! THAT THING EATS DRAGONS!!!" she screamed, so intense was her fear for the majestic creature, the water around the boat swelled again and propelled them towards it.

OOC: Don't be afraid to jump in there. A little ol' cyclone ain't gonna scare a Nidhwal, try as she might. :)

Edit: Hmmm... Don't know what I was thinking, I totally forgot to put in Elisa and Hawke's appearance.

Railyn couldn't make out what was in the water, but before she could figure that out she heard a voice above her. She looked up and let out a delighted squee of excitement. It was Rai's sister.

Heya Cin! she exclaimed, unable to hide her excitement. It's kinda been a while! What are you doing way out here, I thought you, Mom, and Dad were doing something? Rai looked from her sister towards the commotion at sea, back at her sister, and replied, I'm not really sure I just got here myself. I was going to go see if they needed help. A hideous roar erupted in the air surrounding them, making her look back at the ship. Some ugly gray creature with fins and no limbs was attacking a ship. Another dragon had crashed into it, though someone had announced they ate dragons.

Rai felt uneasy, the creature was almost as large as the ship, possibly larger it was hard to tell from this distance, but Rai felt her courage fill her with intensity as she knew that these people were in need of help.

C'mon, sis, we have to help! There are two-legs on that ship, and they obviously tried to warn that dragon about the creature they must be good! Rai flew even faster towards the scene, feeling her shadow breath fill her mouth as she erupted her flame towards the creature. She wondered how much it would affect a water creature. Her shadow breath was different after all, it wasn't entirely fire. That much Rai knew. Her mother told her.

Elisa glanced around frantically, trying to catch up with what was going on. One voice rang clear over all others, screaming that the beast that she had ran in to ate dragons. Hastily, Elisa flapped her wings. Not being able to kick off of any solid surface to aid her ascension, her rise to the air was slower than she would have liked. What, being near a dragon-eater and all, if what that person had said was correct.

Elisa hovered a good three-hundred feet above the water and out of the way of the cyclone. Hawke flew over to her and strapped himself back into the saddle, drawing his massive sword. Swinging his sword in a single swipe with all of his strength, a huge arc of wind - sharpened to where it could cut through skin - flew towards the beast in the water. Electricity crackling through her mouth, Elisa spat a bolt of electricity towards the monster she had crashed into.
