Post Journal of an immigrant
hey, this is going to be the story of a girl from Russia, and how she hadto go through all this stuff to finally be happy. its kind of depressing, but i think it will turn out all right ffor her. the thing is, its going to be written like a journal. the story is told that way. im experimenting with this type of writing, so i dont know how good it will be. so im loking for input after each entry. :-D

Post Re: Journal of an immigrant
"come on mama! Hurry!" Galina grabbed her mother's hand and pulled slightly.
"Give me a minute, my little Angel, not all of us have the luck to be as young as you." Her mother huffed as she quickened her steps to match her older daughter's. Galina strained forward, eyes wide in excitement.
"You'll see mama, it's wonderfull. The house looks beautiful," She paused, watching some soldiers walk across the street. Her mother turned to see what had Galina's attention and saw them at the same time they saw her.
"Keep walking Galina. Don't look at them." Galina slowed her pace a little to make it easier for her mother, and together they walked to the end of the street. They were about to turn the corner when one of the men yelled for them to stop.
"Say nothing, Galina." Her mother warned her. One of them men appeared to be a captain, and he walked with a swagger in an unbalanced way that clearly meant he'd had one too many drinks.
"Hey there, mam. What are you doing out here so late?" He smiled crookedly at Galina.
"We are on our way home." Her mother said. He looked at her with slightly bleary eyes.
"That so? Well, mam, you shouldn't be out so late at night. Some'n might come along and decide to snatch up your pretty little daughter there." He and his men laughed loudly. Galina's mother squeezed her hand and said nothing. Soon they stopped laughing, and the captain blinked heavily a few times and peered at them more closely.
"Say...You look familiar. What's your name?" He leaned in a little and wove precariously from side to side.
"We don't have to tell you anything." Her mother snapped. The soldier looked up at her for a moment before straightening. He drew back his hand and slapped her hard across the face. Her mother dropped to the ground, clutching at her face as tears leaked from the corners of her eyes.
"Mama!" Galina cried, kneeling down to wrap her arm around her mother's shoulders. "Bastards!" She screamed at them. They laughed again.
"So the Snowflake is really a match!" The captain laughed."Next time you show the army some respect and answer our questions, eh?" He bent down again, putting his face near Galina's. "Or maybe i'll just come around one night and teach you some respect. That sound like fun to you?" His breath smelled like wine, and it made Galina's stomach roll with disgust. SHe turned her face away from him, he chuckled.
"What's going on here!" The captain jumped up and away from them. Galina looked up in time to see her father and brother round the corner.
"Papa!" she screamed. Her father didnt look at her.
"What is going on here?" he repeated to the soldiers.
"Oh, we were just having some fun is all." The captain replied. "These two beauties here needed to be taught some manners, and we were more than happy to oblige them." He winked at Galina, and she closed her eyes and turned her face away. Her father gorwled and started forward. The captain's hand flew to his gunbelt.
"Careful, man. I've got some trigger happy hands, if you know what i mean. You don't want to be starting anything." Galina's father stopped, shaking with rage.
"Papa," her brother Leonid put his hand on her father's shoulder,"he's right, let's just get mama and Galina home." Her father hesitated, the nodded once. The captain laughed again.
"That's right, go home, a wise man knows when he's fighting a lost cause." Her father looked at the man with murder in his eyes, but knelt down to pick up Galina's mother instead. Leonid took my hand in his and together we went home.
