Post Saints and Sinners (open)
A young robed man sat crosslegged by a fire pit in silant meditation. Reflecting, and listening to the chirping birds of the wood as they prepared to roost for the night. Druak, once a slayer now turned to wilder folk came walking into the camp with a doe over his shoulder. "I thought I told you to have the fire ready when I got back" The weathered hunter growled and dumped his kill on the ground. Ba'al in turn did not even open his eyes. He just simply smiled and waved a hand through the air and the wood in the fire pit came a light.

A crooked smile crept across Druaks face seeing the elementalist work. "Well I guess you do come in handy after all priest" With that Druak started the delicate task of skinning the deer. "Why are you still following me anyway? I saved your life you saved mine. We are even."

Ba'al replyed in his usual happy voice. "Because I can master hunter. It was fate that our paths crossed and I have faith that when the time comes. Our paths will part."

"Sure, if you say so" Druak replyed with doubt in his voice. "I'm just saying its better if you leave in the morning. More then likely if you hang with me you will die"

Ba'al stood up and put his hands together before him and gave a small bow. "Death is a road we all must walk. It comes sooner to some then others. I do not fear it. For death is not the end, but the begining of another journey, in another life.

Druak hated it when Ba'al spoke like this. But the priest came in handy when fights occured. Even if he refused to kill anyone. "Alright your distracting me now. Go pray something to your dead lightning dragon lords while I finished skinning this thing"

Despite his companions attitude Ba'al just kept smiling and sat back down to prepare some tea.

Sarai sat up in bed and blinked. What a strange dream. She shook her head to clear it and swung her feet out of the sheets and to the floor. She rubbed her face with her hand, then let it drop her to abdomen. To someone that didn't know her, they might not be able to see a difference, but to relatives and close friends, they would. She had gained a few pounds, and also a few inches around her stomach. She smiled slightly, then slowly stood. She heard a growl outside and made a waving motion with her hand,"Shut up, mother. I can still function." she mumbled, half to herself. She heard a snort.
That is not the reason that I am here, dear heart. I sensed a familiar mind in the close by forest. said Jia. A few moments later, the golden haired woman entered the small cottage,"It felt like Kadaj." she finished. Sarai froze and turned, but didn't get the chance to speak,"I called to Felecia and asked her to send Jeta to check it out. If it is Kadaj...Jeta has orders to lead him here. You are not to go anywhere, not in your condition." she said firmly. Sarai's sightless eyes flashed with indignation.
"That is hardly fair. You carried me in fights and skirmishes, surely I can-" Jia cut her off.
"In my dragonic body, Sarai. I only shifted to human and Reapric occasionally. The body of a twoleg is much more sensitive to change than for a dragon. I did not realize that I was carrying you until I was ready to lay your egg. But you; your pregnancy is barely a few weeks in, perhaps one full month, and already you are showing signs. That right there is proof of the difference between twolegs and dragons." she said. Sarai crossed her arms in front of her and scowled.
"Fine then, I'll change to my true form. I want to make sure that Kadaj is alright. I know you still don't like him very much. I wouldn't put it past you to have sent Felecia herself because of how she views things now. I'm going, mother, in this form or my draconic form. Don't make me fight to get past you, because I will." she growled softly. Jia sighed.
"Naixul will be coming here in a day or two. What will he say when he finds you with Kadaj, hmm? He's been hurt enough on the outside without including his heart, Sarai." Sarai bristled at the reminder. Naixul, her draconic mate, didn't know that she was carrying a human's child.
"I'll take care of that when it comes to pass. Naixul understands me better than you think. Now let me pass, mother." she said firmly. The older elf shook her head, but stepped aside as asked. Sarai walked outside, then touched her Changing Seal. It had been a while since she'd been dressed in scales, it almost felt strange. Almost. But this was her true form, the one she was born in, and she fell into its shape effortlessly. She trotted through the forests instead of running, thinking of her swollen belly that carried her son or daughter. She reached out her mind in a wide circle, searching for someone familiar....And she found him. Delight touched her, but she tempered it slightly so it didn't overwhelm her. She brushed her consciousness over his, slowly so he could have the chance to recognize her. Hello, Kadaj. she murmured. She turned in the direction that she sensed him and started to make her way to him.

Druak sat his back against a tree and took the time to loosen the pants around his waist. He ate way to much. But he had killed the animal and did not like to waste.

"So tell me Kdaj" Ba'al said calmly as he scratched the neck of his pet wingless drake Solomon that was nawing on a bone. "Do you intend to wed this woman you told me about?" Druak grunted lathargicly and paused before adding. "Its complicated. Probably not though. She is not human"

The young monk did not see how the woman not being a human would be a problem but kept his religious beliefs to himself. The nomadic hunter showed evidence that he woud care for the child and the woman in question. Surely rules that could not be broken, could be bent. Ba'al silantly came ot the conclussion that marriege was not important in this case.

When his pet Solomon perked up his head and started to growl, its horse like ears going flat against its head Ba'al took hold of the rope collar around his neck. "Solomon senses something" He said aloud. Druak got up with a grunt braught on by his food stuffed belly. "Thanks captain obvious, muzzle that overgrown lizard. Its Sarai"

Ba'al patted and cuddled his pet back into good temperment and scanned the fading light from the campfire in the surrounding area. "I look forward to meeting the young lady" He said cheerfully and for a second his smile almost disapeared at her appearance. "Oh" He said in honest surprise. When his companion told him the situation was complicated Druak was playing it off more then it was in his eyes. "She is a draca. One the Creators messengers born in her very form. How exciting. This is something of tales. Never have I had the honor of meeting one so close"

The young robed monk stood up now with a happy grin and bowed to Sarai. "My lady, be welcome in our camp. Lie and let our fire warm you" Druak was content to let the priest do the talking for the moment. If Sarai came in her blind elven form he would have been a little less embarassed. But only a little. He did not really know where to start on why it took him so long to get back. All his friends, his adoptive father. Everyone massacred by the kings army leaving him alone. Druak did not look as well groomed as he had in the past. He had a beard and wore weatherworn cloths most affilitated with the wilder folk of the wood. The smell coming off his body was less then pleaseant as well. He had been running and in hiding for some time.

Looking at Sarai more closely he saw she had put on a few pounds since last they saw eachother. His feelings at finally confirming what he suspected would happen was hard to descripe. The easiest thing to say was he felt bad. Fifteen minutes of fun for him would be months of pain and discomfort for her. Hardly a fair trade.

"You look well" He said sheepisly to Sarai. "Are you sure you should be up and about in your condition" He added as an afterthought. Remembering that she was a dragon he held up his gloved hands. "I'm just saying it as a suggestion" Druak did not want to come across as if he was ordering her.

Sarai's nostrils flared as she began to pick up scents from the camp. One she recognized, and another she didn't. Her pupils narrowed slightly, and she entered the camp somewhat cautiously. The dying fire reflected on her luster black scales, making them gleam, and the gold around each scale seemed to glow in the gold-orange light. She was startled by how the stranger man accepted and praised her. She would've blushed if she could. She made do with ducking her head sheepishly. Please, no formalities. I'm hardly a lady. she said softly. But she accepted his invitation and laid down gingerly somewhat close to the fire. She looked at Kadaj then, though she couldn't actually see him. I am well. And it's fine. I get that from Mother all the time. she said, and rolled her eyes up to the heavens as if praying. She gazed back down to him and shifted uncomfortably, knowing he wasn't at ease around her draconic form. She looked away. I can Change if you wish. I know you don't exactly...like, my dragon form. I don't want to make you uncomfortable. she said softly, glancing at him then away. Even after all this time she still wanted him to not be wary of her. If that meant Changing to her twoleg form when he was around, that was fine with her.

Druak was quick to comfort Sarai when he managed to sense something wrong at what she said. Exactly what he did not know. But he felt a need to comfort her. "There is no need to change baby girl. What I want does not matter. I will get over it". For a moment he stared into the fire and added.

"I guess you are wondering why it took me so long to get back? My birth fath" He paused after catching himself and resumed speaking. "I am no longer a slayer. Not that it matters since I was a horrible slayer anyway. After hearing wispers of a plotted assasination the king grew fearful. The meeting we were suppose to go to was a trap. My adoptive father the grandmaster of the blood legion and everyone along with it was slaughtered. I barely escaped capture myself. The king wants me alive you see. Why? I do not know" He lied.

"It was a living hell to get this far. Dodging empire blockades along the roads. Hiding when the kings dark riders loomed above. My only drive to go on was to see you. I spent some time among the nomadic wilder folk, dwellers. They taught me how to live off the land. To walk and act as they do. After we parted ways I came across Ba'al here" He looked at the monk but did not elaborate. "His is a tale that is not mine to tell. To sum everything up without twisting your ear. I am here now. Nothing special happened on my journy" It was a humble statement. His tale would be an intresting one to here. But Druak would not tell it.

"How have things been here while I have been gone." He asked and added hopefully. "Uneventful and peaceful I hope" Druak was tired of running and hiding. If he could settle here, raise his child, and die of old age or sickness in peace Druak would consider it a good life. But being the blood born bastard son of the king there was few places he could hide. He would guard that secret to the best that he could. Sarai's people had been hurt most by the king. If they could not hurt him. They would probably settle for the next best thing. Him.

Sarai prummed softly in her throat when he soothed her, though she was surprised that he said that. Very well. she murmured in reply. She looked at him when he mentioned why he had taken so long to return; yes, that had caused her great worry. She had fretted for weeks that he had been seriously injured or even killed. She nodded her head, even though he had already started. Her pupils narrowed to cat-like slits at the mention of his birth father, although he quickly backtracked. She had forgotten that he didn't know that she knew. She listened silently to his tale, crooning sadly at the news of his adoptive father. She tentatively extended her neck toward him and brush her snout comfortingly against his arm. Things have been quiet here. Mother is as protective as ever, Mahari is as reclusive as ever... she hesitated, wondering if she should tell him about Atakai and the gold dragon hatchling. She decided to mention it later, if he asked after the champion slayer. She snorted softly, rustling his clothes. Your birth father will find that you are not so easy to reach. she growled softly, her chest vibrating with the sound. Her tail tip twitched with agitation. At his expression she smiled at him, her eyes glittering. Yes, Druak. I've known about your birth father, Galbatorix, since before you left. I sensed the symbol on your shield in the barn, when you were arming yourself to head out. she started a purr in her chest, and her eyes softened.

Druak felt a little wierd when Sarai touched his arm with her snout. The first thought that came to mind was how she felt alot like the lizards he use to catch as a child. Biting his tounge he refrained from saying it though. It was nice for him to hear things had been quiet. No doubt all thanks to Sarai's mother that he imagined must have kept her on a tight leash.

With Sarai's open comment to knowing his father Druak felt a bit taken back. "What? Now wait its not really known. People say so but its not a proven fact" He paused in thought over it all. "Just because the king wants me alive and unharmed does not mean its true" He was just lying to himself now and was justly entitled to it.

Who would admit to being the kings son. There was more harm then good associated with it. Sighing he stood up and ran a gloved hand along Sarai's neck as he moved along her body until it rested on the side of her belly. "Is the child well?" He asked finally. It took him long enough to ask directly.

"Does changing forms hurt it? Will the child take your form or mine at birth? Will it be touched by magic? Or even deformed and crippled?" He had so many questions that he knew not the answers. Such questions Druak decided was best to ask now while Sarai was still able to. Asking later and causing stress would only make things problamatic.

Sarai snorted softly when he denied it. Her eyes narrowed slightly and she snorted again. Just because I am gentler than most dragons, does not mean that I am not distrusted by every one who knows my father. They assume because he is such a dark menace that I am one too. I even look like him a little bit, so I suppose it's easy to see. she muttered, more to herself than to Druak. A purr involuntarily started in her chest when he touched her neck and slid his hand down her body to her belly. She shifted, rolling onto her side so he could see the soft scales of her stomach. From what we know, the child is fine. Mother carried me for her entire term without knowing it, and she shifted several times. Savania, my mother's sister-in-law, also carried a human child. She never shifted, so we don't know exactly. And as for which form it will take....it will not take one or the other, but a mix of some sort. Of what mix, that depends. It might be more draconic, or it might be more human. We can't know until it is born. And it will be touched by magic, that is for certain. Dragons are creatures of magic. Now, whether it inherits the ability to see a truth, like my bloodline can, or not, is in question. Nainocaro did, he's Savania's son, but again we can't know for certain until the child is born. she shrugged. At his last question she sighed and blinked her eyes. Nainocaro is healthy for a Draconian, so I think it's safe to say that it will be as healthy as any child. she replied, as truthfully as she could. Mother could probably scan the child for deformities with Seals in her Reaper form, or Ka could. she offered. The black-gold dragoness yawned a bit and lowered her head down onto her forepaws. She grunted as she felt a jolt from within her belly, and chuckled. Your child is a kicker. she said wryly, glancing back at Druak. Hmm...interesting...That means that the child is in a twoleg form, not encased in an egg. she mused. The child kicked again, directly into Druak's hand on her belly. She smiled at him warmly.

Druak took everything in that Sarai said about as well as anyone in his situation could. Hearing about the other draconian child though he thought back to the ones he had met in the past. They were ugly creatures to be sure. Very violent and aggresive too. Druak could think of nothing good about draconians. His child would be the exception if it were to be born as one. More then likely so as the mothers blood would no doubt be stronger then his.

Feeling the kick from Sarai's belly he was both awed and unerved of the freak of nature within. All Druak did was pat the belly effectionatly and smile. He would love the draconian freak without equal. "Aye that it is" The weathered hunter replyed. "He or she will be trouble I think. Already eager to get out Somehow he felt as if the child would be quite the adventurer. "I think that falls under the mothers dutys to keep the rascal from running off" He joked and went back down to sitting against the tree. "So do I have to worry about your mother when we all leave in the morning?" He asked. "Better yet do you think she would like it if the first thing I say to her is hello mom"

It was a jest of course. He was smart enough to know that if Jia was his mother in law in some respects she would hate him as most mother in laws do the men that were with there daughters. Thinking about the mother in law aspect another question came to mind. "So do your kind mate for life? Druak asked. "If not dont worry. I will stay and help raise the child as promised." He silently made a vow to be as pleasently annoying as possible to Jia whenever he could. She would be his source of entertainment. Already he was trying to come up with a list of things he could do to tease the mother dragon. Druak had no worry about Jia hurting him. Not with him being Sarai's mate. He knew everything there was to know about dragons. According to the slayer archives at least.

But just because they thought they knew everything did not nesasarily mean they did. Druak already believed Sarai would mate him for life. But what he was taught might not be a fact. Only Sarai could answer it.

Sarai snorted softly at Druak's jesting. She crossed her forepaws and laid her head down on them, her eyes closing halfway. I would not advise it, at least not yet. She's been real touchy whenever your name comes up, even more so when she found out I was pregnant. she said idly, and winced. Oh she remembered her mothers rage when the gold-amethyst heard the news. Sarai had just ignored her, knowing it was only mother instinct. At Druak's question, she eyed him, searching his face although she could not actually see it. Yes, dragons mate for life. Unless one partner or the other is taken to the void, they are together for the rest of their lives. she said. She looked away from him then and into the fire. Druak was human. Unless something, somehow, came along to change that, he would die eventually of old age. The thought saddened her, and she forced it away. I know you will stay. she said quietly. Tentatively she stretched her head out until it laid on the ground beside Druak's knee. And I thank you for that. she murmured, huffing her warm breath onto his leg. Should she tell him about Naixul? She felt her scales prickle along her spine at the thought. Maybe she'd wait until they were home.

Druak could not help but grin in self thought at Sarai's comment about not toying with her mother. "Dont you worry about your mother baby girl. Leave her to me. I have plans and will rub it in her face since she has so little faith in me." He was both pleased and unhappy to hear dragons mated for life. So they were a wedded couple. Just without the ceromony. He knew he would not live forever. Humans lived short lives these days. Few ever made it past he ripe old age of there late thirties. Disease or war often claimed many. Druak pitied Sarai, as he did all those that lived forever unless killed by someone else. Why anyone would want to live forever confused him.

Testingly Druak raised his feet in the air and hovered them in the air over her head resting on the ground. Letting out a exaderated yawn Druak said with a sleepy voice. "So tired, I suppose this foot rest will do" Gently he touched the top of Sarai's head then chuckled before quickly taking them off. "Just joking. Get some rest Sarai. Your sleeping for two now remember?"

Night priest" Druak said aloud to Ba'al who was silently petting his pet wingless drake. "Goodnight my friend" Ba'al said with a smile. "Night Sarai" Druak said afterwards and shifted a bit against the tree his back was against. The young hunter was thinking about his plans. Plans that would make him one of the most powerful merchent lords in the country if he succeeded. No human ever secured exlusive trading rights to the most gifted artisans in the world. If druak was to live here and raise a child. He would be that somebody.

Sarai snorted softly but didn't comment. When he shifted and hovered his feet over her head, her eyes warmed and sparkled with affectionate humor. She huffed and smiled a bit at him. Indeed I am. she agreed and closed her eyes to sleep. She peeked one eye open after a few moments. You know, my stomach is probably warmer than the tree trunk and open air. Why don't you two sleep next to my belly and be warmed by the fire in my gullet? she offered. You would probably get a more restful sleep that way. she pointed out. She rolled onto her side, exposing her soft scaly underbelly, and lifted a wing in invitation.

Ba'al was the first to volunteer. "To be warmed by the inner fire of a dragon lord? How could I resist." Standing up he took hold of the rope collar around his pets neck and guided Solomon to Sarai's side and lied down. His pet following afterwards to lie next to its master. Solomon raised its head for a moment and let out a lazy grunt and rested it back down again.

Druak was the one to show some intrepidation. Sleeping next to his woman in her elven form was ok. Lying next to a dagon still seemed wierd to him. But with Ba'al being the first to act Druak decided to follow in tern instead of being to publically wierd about it. True to Sarai's words it would be a more restful sleep. Not only because of the comforting heartbeat he felt. But the inner fire also kept him warm.

Druak was the first to wake in the morning. He was use to getting up right before the sun rose in the horizon. Breaking camp with the last hour of darkness always helped him keep unoticed in the past. Not that he needed to anymore. But like the old saying went. It was hard to teach old dogs new tricks.

Ba'al woke up when his pet did and licked at his face with wet sloppy kisses. "Meh, Wha? I'm up Solomon" The young monk grunted and pushed his pets head away gently. "Ok, I'm Up, Im up" Sitting up Ba'al rubbed the sleep from his eyes and looked around. " You take the early bird saying way to far sir Druak" Ba'al commented with a smile.

Druak was a morning person and more happy then anytime of the day. Smiling back as he put on his back Druak replyed. "Aye, the early bird gets the worm, the late birds dies in there sleep. Get used to it priest" Securing the straps on his shoulders to the pack druak grabbed a horn on the wingless drakes head and shook it playfully. "Aye bubba, you sleep well?" He said in a baby voice to the lesser wingless dragon. Lesser as in that most slayers called unintelligent dragon like reptiles. Like wyverns and basilisks for example. Lesser dragons compared to the intelligent greater dragons like Sarai and her mother.

Sarai smiled and relaxed once Ba'al and Druak were fast asleep beside her. She laid her head down and closed her eyes, sleeping peacefully.
In the morning she shifting, feeling movement around her. She peeked open one eye and saw, more accurately felt and heard, Ba'al talking with Druak. Solomon was beside them as well. She blinked sleepily and lifted her head, her jaws opening wide in a tired yawn. She got to her paws and shook herself gently to wake herself up. She then stretched forward like a cat would, arching her back and extending her talons out and digging them briefly into the ground. Her wings unfurled completely and stretched as well, showing the impressive length and size of them for her age. After a moment they folded down against her back once more and she padded forward to meet the two humans. Good morning. she said to them, her eyes half closed still and her voice a bit slurred. She jerked and her eyes opened wide when something shifted in the trees. She growled softly and moved so that she was slightly in front of Druak, Solomon, and Ba'al.
"Oh calm down Sarai, it's only me." said a voice sharply, but still with affection. The black-gold dragoness didn't relax though she did stop growling.
I know. she said dryly, her lavender-flecked-with-grey eyes fixed on the position of her mother. The gold-haired woman walked from the tree shadows and then stopped, crossing her arms in front of her.
"Why on earth are you moving about so early in the morning, Kadaj? This is Du Weldenvarden. Unless you fear wild animals, nothing is out to get you and kill you here." the dragon-turned-elf said this almost gently, but the black-gold heard the faint sarcasm. Sarai bristled, to which Jia glared at her,"Stop that, right now. I know where you stand with him, so I won't hurt him." the woman assured. Sarai snorted, as if saying 'yeah, right', and swished her tail.

Druak did not emediatly look when he felt the presence of Sarai in his head. There was someone watching them and his attention was focused on that. Casually the wilder picked up his bow. Not so casually about the same time Sarai was moving the hunter spun around with an arrow ready. His fingers shaking a bit from the taughtness of the string.

Slowly Druak released the tension on his bow but did not quit put it away in the event Jia would come after him. Something in the tone of Jia's voice Druak did not like. Replying with an equal hint of distain the man said. "Nothing you say? How about you?" Finally Druak took the arrow from his bow and put it back in the quiver case on his hip belt. Sarai would not let her mother hurt him.

"So nice of you to come and put out the welcome mat mom" The last word in the sentence was sure to sting. Playfully the young man held out open arms and cocked his head to the side and made a baby face. "Hug?" He asked in a sweet innocent voice.

Druak already knew the answer. He was just preparing for her to pick something up and throw it at him. "HUg?" He asked again innocently with the same silly face. "C'mon you know you luv me"

Sarai snorted and swished her tail again, lowering her head slightly in an aggressive manner toward her mother,"With my daughter obviously watching me like a hawk? I'd rather take on a Shade than piss her off. You are safe from me, Kadaj." said the elf woman wryly. Both females winced at the light 'mom' jibe. The black-gold grimaced as Druak extended his arms and asked for a hug. Jia's expression was surprise above all else, as if she hadn't expected for Druak to ask for such a gesture. Jia hesitated when Druak asked again, then sighed. Sarai watched, eyes wide, as her mother stepped forward and loosely hugged Druak. Jia's body relaxed and she hugged Druak a little tighter,"I was worried about you, actually, Kadaj. I get angry and snappy when I worry, I'm sorry you thought I would hurt you. No. When your company didn't return when it should have, I went out searching for it. But all I found was the slaughter. I looked for you, cause I had to know if you were dead, but I didn't find your body. I had hoped you had gotten away." she said. She pulled away and turned to Sarai, rubbing her palm over the black-gold's eyeridge. Sarai purred and nuzzled her mother's hand.

The reaction Druak got was not exactly as he expected. In the Slayers he heard alot of guy talk about mother in laws. What he expected was some witty remark like how she would rather hug a basilisk then him. What actually happened came right out of left field. Still he accepted the hug readily until Jia finally let go. "Well I appreciat that ma'am. I did not expect to survive really. I barely escaped and was hunted by dark dragons and there riders until they caught up with me a few days ago only to give me a letter sealed in wax with the sigil ring from the kings very hand. I have not had the bal....." he paused to repraise what he was going to say. I have not had the gall to open it yet though. Ya know, dark magic and all. But still I think the letter the harmless.

Changing the matter of the kings letter in the pack with his blood legion slayer armor Druak added. "Its nice to know you accept me. I never had a doubt" He said confidently with a slight tone saying that he was joking at the same time and gave a smug smile. "How could such a pretty lady as yourself resist a handsome face like this?" To add to it he waved a gloved hand over his face that was covered in a dragon claw scar. "I can definetly see where your daughter gets her looks from"

"So I finally have a mother figure in my life now. Bout time" He said with a half hearted chuckle. "My adoptive dad was my mom and he was a real mans man. Not exactly mother material. But with all my friends and family dead and rotting under the unforgiving sun because of the kings paranoia."

Druak shrugged. "Your the only familly I have now" He gave Jia a friendly jap with his elbow in her side and winked. "Just dont cluck over me and Sarai like a mother hen ok? Or I might replace you"

Druak then waved over the to ever quiet, but observing Ba'al and his pet wingless drake. "Ok y'alll" He said aloud. "Family hug time is over. Time to move out while the day is still young. Lead on baby girl" He said to Sarai, for once with a happy tone. "In case you did not know we men are terrible with directions" It was a lie, with him at least. Druak was good with directions. But he had no clue where Sarai lived exactly. Best to stay with funny stereotypes for now and keep spirits high. That was a good quirk he learned from his monk friend Ba'al. Laughter was the key to a healthy life. And humans like him only got one life for a short time unlike dragons and other imortals who lived forever.

Jia chuckled, her teal-green eyes glittering. She shuffled away the letter into the back of her mind to ask about later,"I'm sure you didn't." she agreed, smiling widely. She sighed inwardly at his mention of having no more family, and she felt her heart ache with sympathy. She looked to the ground, her eyes saddened. Since the Allatik War and Ella's death, Zeke had more or less hidden himself away to grieve over the loss of his partner-of-heart. Felecia had done much the same for Ebony. Jia looked up when she felt Sarai gently bump her muzzle against her side, and smiled when her daughter purred. The golden haired woman raised a hand and caressed the black-gold's eyeridge, then sighed again,"Despite your warning, Kadaj, I will probably cluck over you and Sarai a lot. Since the War, my older brother has hidden himself away, and Felecia has too. Zeke's children are still around, but they are up to their own business, as is Savania." she turned and started walking away slowly, and Sarai padded beside her. She rested a hand on the black-gold's neck,"Sarai is truly all I have left now, as well as my mate, Seroc. And Ka, of course. Through Sarai I have you, as a son-in-law. A lonely family of five. Six, actually." she reminded, glancing at her daughter, who grimaced and swished her tail, but stayed silent. Jia growled and stopped walking, turning to the younger dragoness with eyes glittering,"You haven't told him yet, have you?" she said shortly, crossing her arms over her chest. The way her daughter kept her eyes averted told the truth even better than words did. She threw her hands up in exasperation,"Sarai Blackscales, for heaven's sake! When were you-" she started, but Sarai cut her off.

- - - - - - - - - -

Sarai growled and raised her wings slightly, smoke roiling from her nostrils and drifting slowly up into the sky. None of your business, mother. she retorted, her tail snapping from side to side and leaving lash marks in the tree trunks nearby, though she was careful to avoid Druak and Ba'al with her tail lashing. I was going to tell him once he had had the chance to settle in and get used to being back home. she muttered, her eyes glittering. That way I could tell him all the details without feeling pressured. I want him to trust me, not detest me, thinking I had gone behind his back the moment he left, or lied to him from the very beginning! she snarled, her lips peeling back to show her teeth. She stopped abruptly and whirled around to face Druak, her eyes wide with distress. She hadn't been speaking to her mother privately, which meant that her human mate and Ba'al had heard every word. She took a step toward Druak, then lowered her head to the ground and backed away instead, shame crossing her expression. I didn't, Kadaj, I didn't. I swear I didn't. she said softly, and crooned mournfully.

Druak stopped walking when Sarai and her mother got in a argument. The mental link Sarai had started was still up so he heard every word. Throwing his arms in the air in frustration he said aloud in irritation. "For gods sake woman already with the drama? I just got back. I think I have earned a little piece for at least a day" Sighing and shaking his head the young slayer crossed his arms across his chest.

"I'm not a child so quit tip toeing around me as if I'm fragile. If you have something to tell me just tell me. No secrets alright? The table is open." Ba'al sensed the awkwardness of the situation and cleared his throat politely. "I think this is as far as my journey goes sir Druak. I'm sure we will bump into eachother again

What Ba'al said right before he walked away with his pet did not help with Druaks mood. "I work for a living priest. Dont call me sir" Was all Druak said.

Sarai cringed at the tone in Druak's voice and bowed her head low. Even Jia flinched a bit and took a step back. Both females glanced at Ba'al and nodded a bit to him in farewell, but both of them were mostly focused on Druak. The black-gold looked at the ground and refused to meet Druak's gaze. Very well. During the Allatik War, I met a male dragon that had been seriously abused and hurt by the Empire, mostly by Galbatorix himself. I grew fond of him and became his close friend. He attached himself to me, saying I was his new Mistress and that he was mine to command for whatever I wished. But I didn't want that, so I gave his tail a swift kick. It's what he needed to get himself out of the mindset that he was a slave to everyone and that he was actually worth something. the scales around her muzzle became dark red instead of midnight black. I honestly don't know how it really happened.... she confessed softly. His name is Naixul, and he is so kind....The gentlest dragon that you will ever meet, at least, that I know of. she glanced at Druak and then back down at the ground. He is my draconic mate. Though we have not made it official....we didn't have the time for it during the War, nor once we came home. She flinched as if she expected to be yelled at or something. I'm sorry I didn't tell you right away. I should have. I didn't want to hurt you or Naixul....But I think I might have done just that. she murmured.

Druak yelled out loud right before Sarai flinched. "COW COD!" Not exactly the most pleasent curse word but it suited. "Well so much for you saying dragons mated for life." Druak put a hand on the hilt of his fathers sword. He thought it was a plain weapon but the blade gave off a evil aurora he could not sense. It was as old as the slayer order itself and acted as a prison housing countless evil dragons magical life force. There souls in a sense.

Druak paced for a moment muttering to himself before finally exclaiming to the world. "I'm not Atakai you know! I dont wake up in the morning slaying ancient dragon gods each day before breakfast singlehandly!" Druak resumed pacing and looking at the ground. "I have slayed before but only in groups with others! Even if I put back on my old armor there is no chance I can take out this male when he comes to kill me! Not by myself

Druak saw this whole thing as a problem indeed. He assumed the other family member in question would seek to kill him. Aside from the fear of being burned alive in dragon fire. The screams of long dead friends already echoeing from memory in his mind. Druak could live with this knowledge that Sarai had another lover. But only if the said lover did not kill him. Stopping his pacing again the former slayer gave Sarai a regretful look. "I'm not going to live through the encounter with Naixul am I?"

Sarai winced and flinched, her scales almost curling as Druak grew agitated. She whimpered softly in apology, but stood straight when he asked if he would survive his encounter with Naixul. Her pupils narrowed slightly into cat-like slits. Naixul? Hurt you? she snorted softly. He'd no sooner hurt you than he'd hurt me. He's very gentle....exceedingly so, almost to a fault. Even if he did think of it.... she tilted her head slightly to the side. Shame on you for thinking I wouldn't protect you. You are the father of my child, and I will be damned if you are hurt in anyway, either by a stranger or my own family. she emphasized this with a stamp of her forefoot and a firm snort, her eyes glittering. She rustled her wings uneasily and looked away again. Naixul will understand. He's not hot-tempered and over-protective like some of the males of my kind are. she said, glancing at Druak then away again.

Druak was no so reasured by Sarai's statments and pointed a gloved finger at her. The other hand still firmly rested on the hilt of his slayer blood legion sword. "Even so I would make sure your mother never let you interfere if he wanted to fight. Your gravid. A single misplaced blow and the child will die. Its not just your life on the line anymore woman. Your eating, sleeping, and moving around for two now. Try to remember that" By the tone of his voice this was not open for debate and Druak was pretty sure his mother in law of sorts would side with him on this one. Sarai could not interfere in battle.

"If worst comes to worst I can call for Atakai's aid. I might be with the hunted blood legionaires. But slayers are a band of brothers. He would come to my aid. He is my sworn brother and best friend. No dragon could kill the Giant of Osirus. The god slayer himself. He is a true hero of mankind a beacon of hope. Last time I heard he had started peace talks with the elves for the local small human communitys that lived in this region of the country. How did those peace talks go while I was gone?"

Druak evidently did not know Atakai was dead. Slain under mysterious circumstances. He would not take the death of his best friend and sworn brother well.

Sarai scowled and snorted. Mother did just fine when she carried me into fights and skirmishes. she muttered under her breath mutinously, but didn't argue any further than that. I know. she murmured a bit louder in reply, looking at the ground. Her face saddened at the mention of Atakai and she crooned softly. She tentatively stepped forward to comfort him, before even speaking. Druak...Atakai was killed a few weeks after you left. she hesitated. I don't know the exact details, and neither does my mother. The best person to ask would be Felecia. She was the one who found his body and chased after the killer. she said softly. She lightly nudged his shoulder in what she hoped he would take as a comforting gesture. I'm sorry...I know you cared about him... she trailed off, not exactly sure what to say to attempt to soothe him.

Druak sensed something wrong. A change in the air at the mention of Atakai. He pointed his finger again at Sarai as she came towards him. "No! Dont you dare!" His voice cracked a bit and his eyes watered a bit but not a tear fell.

No amount of comforting could help Druak at this point. After Sarai told him the news. He just rubbed a arm across his face and said pridefully. "I'm not crying" He said stubbornly. "Slayers dont weep for the dead" He paused before saying one of the orders age old quotes. "Remember the dead, but fight for the living"

He had no intention of hunting down the one that killed him. He already had an idea. "Betrayers" he said scornfully. Again someone said the word Sarai had probably heard from slayers before. It was term for dragonkind.

"Everytime humanity gets a hero they strike them down and our hope along with it. But we are survivors if nothing else." He said more to himself. "I only wish I could see his tomb and pay my respects. But alas his tomb will be in the hall of heroes in the capital directly in the slayer compound and acadamy. To sleep forever with the other great saints"

Blinking his eyes now having succesfully suppressed his tears and sorrow Druak waved a hand. "Lets just go already. Ive suffered enough Before he started walking though Druak took out the sealed letter he got from the kings riders and opened it to read. The contents were not exactly what he expected but Druak took it as a omen. The king evidently expressed the desire to be part of his life and invited him to visit. To make matters better he was also given full pardon from the supposed slayer blood legion revolt and offered a position that just opened when Druaks adoptive dad was killed. The position of being the grandmaster of the slayer order.

A desk job that did not require him to be in the field slaying dragons like he use to. A job reletively safe. And he had all of the slayer army at his command.

After reading the letter while walking he put it away and said rather blankly. "I've been pardoned and promoted. I'm the new slayer grandmaster". He still could ignore it and be a merchant lord like planned. But after hearing about Atakai's death Druak felt an obligation to accept it.

Sarai crooned softly but bowed her head and didn't say a word. She wanted to change to her elven form and wrap her arms around him to comfort him, but she didn't think that would help. So instead she merely listened and remained silent. At his command to move on she obeyed and turned to lead the way to the cottage. Her mother fell behind to take up the rear. She glanced back when she sensed him reading something as he walked. She winced when he announced what it was, hesitating to speak. I would say congrats but... she trailed off into silence. Her wings stiffened a bit when she felt a mental touch that was wild and cold at the same time. It took her a minute to recognize the touch as Felecia, and she lowered her barriers enough to allow contact. I want to talk to Kadaj about Atakai. Tell him when you think it appropriate. If his answer is yes please inform me and I will come to your home at once. said the female elf shortly, and then the contact was severed. Sarai blinked in surprise. She hadn't even had time to respond. She huffed and continued padding forward for the few minutes it too to get to the cottage. She stopped and looked back at Druak, her eyes warm. Welcome home.... she said shyly, her tail swishing a bit anxiously. She touched her Changing Seal, allowing the light to obscure her figure for a moment before it cleared and showed her to be in her elven form. She swayed for a moment from dizziness (a natural consequence, going from a four-legged being to a two-legged one), then blinked away the vertigo and smiled at Druak. Her stomach was more visibly swollen in this form, but that was the only noticeable change. Her hair was the same luscious black with small streaks of gold, her eyes the same glittering lavender-flecked-with-grey irises. She walked to the door and opened it, entering the cottage herself and sitting in the plush stuffed chair that Jia had made for her when she'd found out the black-gold was pregnant.

Druak raised an eyebrow as he kept walking at his mother in laws comment. "And why not?" He asked with a defensive tone. "You should see the great citadel dragon" He added with a tone of awe. "To see the white spire. It is the greatest archetechtural achievement ever done by man. As deadly as it is beutiful with its brisling defenses. No one has ever breached it. As grandmaster I would be safer there then anywhere else. More safer even then the king." Being stuck though overseeing the slayer order in his white ivory tower would leave little for family time.

Stilll following Druak took the time to examine the small, but homely cottage. When Sarai changed he instinctely took a step to support the swaying woman only to hold back as Sarai gained her footing. She was just as buetiful as he remembered and much prefered her in this form then the other. When Sarai opened the doors and entered Druak got a bit irritated but did not dwell on it. He had plans to carry her in and eye the bed and table saying how they needed to break them in tonight. But plans changed. He was not in the mood for romance.

Following Sarai in Druak took off his heavy pack containing his blood red armor and set it on the wooden floor with a creek. "Its nice" He said honestly. "It has a homely feel. Do you have any land out back for a garden? I always wanted to start a garden"

Druak had a natural green thumb when he was in the slayers and actually had his own little garden. Sure he could not snap a finger and plants would sprout from the earth like elves. Druak actually put sweat, time, and love into growing. It was more gratifying he thought then elven magic. Magic, a force he did not trust or like as it made people lazy.

Opening his pack Druak set multiple small pouches on the small table in the cottage. "I even have the seeds" He said a bit more cheerfully." Gardening relaxed him. His way of coping with the difficultys in life. "White babys breath, Morning Glorys, Johny jumpups.... to name a few" He said. All those named being flowers except the morning glorys. They were more of a flowering vine.

Sarai smiled at Druak and nodded,"Yes there is, actually. Mother built a large yard out back, complete with a fence, for when the child was born, so it'd have a place to play." she said. She brightened as he mentioned that he had seeds, too,"You do? Oh splendid. I'll help plant them if you like." she said happily. She sat back in the chair and put one hand on top of her stomach, gesturing toward the kitchen,"The door leading into the yard is right through the kitchen there, if you'd like to look it over." she offered, then yawned and blinked sleepily. Jia picked up a quilt and laid it over her, not even bothering that she move to the bed,"You take a nap, little one. Rest." murmured her mother. Sarai smiled then closed her eyes to sleep for a bit.

Druak perked up a bit more hearing they had some land. "Great! Perhaps you can help me whenever you are up to the task. Just dont push yourself". He watcheed Jia tend to her daughter and let a small smile creep over his face briefly before exiting back outside. The land was fenced but not very well tended. Already mother nature was quickly trying to reclaim the cleared land. The day was still young and Druak decided to take off his shirt and tend to the labor suited for menswork. The earth was healthy and fertile and the weeds and young trees were already rooted deep. Druaks hands were callused though and up for the tedious work. For the greater part of the morning he was on his hands and knees pulling the undesired plantlife. Many wild flower bushes though he left as they were. They were desired and he planned to uproot and replant them somwhere more desireable like under the cottage windows.

Mid afternoon he pulled out a waist high young tree with a great deal of grunting and threw it over the fence into a pile with the other unwanted plants. Holding his lower back and stretching with a few resounding pops he said to himself. "Finally". Druak surveyed his work. It was still a bit messy with small leaves here and there but they would blow away or rot pretty quickly. he pictured a stonewalkway in his mind. Flat stones he would have to search for himself. "First things first though" he grumbled and went searching for a shovel. He needed to dig a compost pit where he could dump the pulled plants and any food leftovers from meals. He did not waste. The compost when it broke down would be good for the plants.

Druak chose the site of the compost pit away from the cottage as to not attract animals. When that task was done he moved the uprooted plants and dumped them. The remainder of the day consisted of him finding suitable flat rocks for the winding pathways in the yard. Grunting Druak came out of the woods dripping with sweat and took a large flat rock from his shoulder and layed it down in front of a old weathered dragon statue as tall as him.

He did not mind it so much. It would help give a mystical feel to the garden he planned to grow and nurture. Some well placed decorative vines coaxed into growing on it would help with that. Still, the statue kind of creeped him out. All day while he worked Druak felt as if the ancient stone figure was watching him. The entire day had gone by and all he had done was clear the land, build a compost heep, and braught back some stones to make a pathway. A nonehuman would think it pathetic. But Druak was only human.

Feeling proud of all the work he did the young slayer sat on the cottage backporch and looked at all his work. Tommorow he intended to replant some of the wild flower pushes he spared from pulling up and planting seeds. With the dwindling light he saw fireflies were already out and dancing with bright flashes over the desolate land he made. Ugly now, but in time it would be green and lush with color.

Druak now wondered where Jia was. He remembered her coming out and watching him work occasionally throughout the day. Probably laughing at him he thought. She was a dragon and Druak figured she thought him a fool for all the sweat and effort he was putting into growing something from the earth. It relaxed him though and kept his mind off the more troubling things. Like if he should be the slayer grandmaster.

Jia had to smile as Druak instantly headed for the back yard. She followed him after a few minutes and watched as he worked, a smile touching her lips. She decided to leave him to it and turned to the kitchen. She set about cleaning up the place while her daughter rested in the chair. She was busy for the entire day, wiping down dusty surfaces with a damp rag, sweeping, folding, washing dishes, though she occasionally checked on Druak to make sure he was alright. She went about like this for several hours, finding peace in the humble work. Since the Allatik War her dreams had been blood filled nightmares. She closed her eyes and sighed. When would she be able to stop fighting and killing? Probably never, even after Galbatorix was long dead and gone, because there was always that one loyal servant that would end up surviving and hating the ones that killed the king. Then a whole new war would start, one of revenge. With these thoughts in mind, she set the clean, wet clothes and linens down just inside the back door. She turned back to the kitchen and poured two cups of fresh hot tea. She carried them back outside and stopped when she stood behind Druak, lowering one cup down for him to take,"Sarai will love it, by the way. She loves plants, especially those that she can use to help and heal others. I can guarantee that she will spend a lot of time out here, even once the child is born." she sat beside him,"I would have come out to help, but the inside of the house was a mess, so I decided to stay in and clean up a bit. Sarai is still resting in the living room. Don't be alarmed, fatigue is normal when a pregnant woman is close to labor. When she awakens she will come out here on her own." she mused quietly, then took a sip from her cup of tea.

Druak turned and looked up after hearing the woodporch he was sitting on creek. "Oh, thanks" He said and gave a brief smile. Tea was not really his thing and he got enough of it in his travels with the Niru priest. When Jia surveyed the land he quietly poured some of the tea out onto the dirt only to take a sip from the cup when she looked back and gave a innocent smile. "Hmm, good" Druak said.

"I'm glad to hear she loves plants. I have not even scratched the surface still. The soil is rich and healthy here. But I need to plant grass so its roots will strengthen the earth. If not as soon as it rains the place will look like a mud pit. And I need to make sure I dont plant anything poisounous. I did some babysitting duty with the slayers on off time with there kids and I know they like to shove wierd and nasty things in there mouths.

Druak chuckled at that memory. "Yeah, about Sarai. We really need to keep her from going overboard and doing things she use to. I admire her spirit. But its not healthy for her right now." He spoke in a cooperative voice. He did not want to sound as if he was lecturing Jia about her own daughter. Two leg form or not she was still a dragon. And getting in a debate with a dragon was a battle he did not believe he could win. Like engaging a dragon in a battle of wits. You just did not do it.

"Whats the deal with that dragon statue by the way?" Druak asked Jia and waited for her to look before empyting out the rest of the tea on the ground. "I like it, the thing has a old mystical appeal to it that will suit my garden. But it kind of creeps me out all the same. I would have swore it was watching me today. You know that feeling you get when being watched from behind? I got that alot today."

"Was it here when you settled the land? Or did you bring it?"

Jia smiled and chuckled,"Don't worry about that. Sarai knows most of the poisonous plants from my teachings. And the ones she doesn't know we can research and make sure that they're safe." she said. She took another sip from the cup. She snorted softly in agreement to his comment for her daughter,"Good luck. Sarai is as stubborn as her father is and pretty much does as she pleases. Just like him, mostly, and a little like me." she mused, glancing into the house with a slight smile,"But you're right. Though, once she gets heavier in her term, she'll concede the point. It's difficult to move about when you have a bulge in front of you that doesn't let you see where you walk." she chuckled lightly. She raised an eyebrow at his question and looked out into the garden. She saw the dragon statue and tilted her head, perplexed,"It...wasn't here when I built the cottage, but I didn't bring it here either." she admitted. She glanced behind her when she heard a throat being cleared. The eyebrow raised higher when she saw that it was Felecia, looking as blank and cold as she had the day that she came home from the War. Jia glanced at Druak. This is Felecia, the elf that Sarai was talking about earlier. She lost her dragon during the Allatik War, whatever you do, do not bring it up. she warned him privately. Felecia's russet brown wings stretched from her back then draped over her shoulders like a living leathery cloak, and probably twice as warm too,"I'm the one that put it here. It has a powerful spell on it that I made myself, so that I could watch over Sarai no matter where I was. You see the small diamond shaped ruby on the dragon's forehead, and the black obsidian that is in the dragon's eyes? That's what allows me to see. I'd prefer to be simply paranoid, but I placed the statue here because I thought Sarai might be in danger." said the older elven woman

Druak was not happy to hear the statue came out of nowhere. "I dont think its evil" He said as he looked it over again. "I have heard tales of stone sentrys for some ancient green serpant deep in hibernation somwhere in a secret glade protected by a magic veil" He tugged at his beard thoughtfully. "This might be one of them. Its a good omen. Perhaps the wise green has gifted favor on our home and family"

All this was a fanciful tale. Something buetiful, but no doubt human superstition. Why would a slumbering ancient green dragon bestow favor on a human? Hearing the cleared throat he turned along with Jia to see the woman. With the discreet advice of his mother in law he decided to stay quiet mostly. She looked about as friendly as a male bassilisk in rut.

"Hello ma'am" Druak said as friendly as possible. Listening to the woman all the while trying not to stare at the freakish wings coming out of her back. At the storys end he looked back over to the statue and then back at the woman and smiled. "I see. Thank you for this gift" Druak was a bit disapointed. He very much enjoyed his explaination better. The old wilder folk fable of the sleeping guardian of the wood.

He was told this woman knew the circumstances of Atakai's death. He had no intention of brining it up. The young man had accepted it by now. Knowing who would only stir the dying embers of hate in his heart into a raging fire once more not easily put out.

Felecia crossed her arms over her chest and nodded to the human, then to Jia. Her sapphire eyes were cool and anything but friendly,"Don't thank me yet. Sarai is still in danger from something. I think that the King is closing in on her. I'd advise you to keep an eye out, and not let Sarai go anywhere alone, no matter how much she balks at it." she said this calmly as if she were talking about the weather. She was silent for a moment, then a warm trilling sound from above made her look up. Her expression softened minutely and a small smile tugged at her lips. A miniature metallic red dragon flew down and landed on Felecia's shoulder. The little creature chirped happily and rubbed its tiny scaled face against her cheek. The female elf hummed and stroked its neck with one finger,"Ah, hello darling. Say hello to Druak. And be polite." she murmured. Her sapphire eyes had warmed slightly at the arrival of the dragonette.

Jeta trilled again and took to the air, twirling briefly before flaring her wings to land lightly on Druak's right shoulder. Her bright ruby eyes sparkled with content and mischief as she chirped a greeting. Hiya, I'm Jetaema, please call me Jeta. Pleased to meet you. And before you say so, I am not a dragon, I am a dragonette. We are much smaller than our great cousins. she twittered gently, her voice upbeat and excited. Just like her scale color, her personality was fiery and mischievous.

Post Re: Saints and Sinners (open)
A look of horror crossed Druaks face at first upon hearing about Sarai being in danger. It changed though to one of confidence. Waving a hand of dismissal and standing up from his seat on the porch he said. "Do not worry about the king. I intend to write a letter for him tonight and hand it off to a courier." If Sarai was in danger Druak had no choice. He would accept his birth fathers requiests in the letter. But not without terms. Pardon for Sarai as well. Getting Sarai to actually settle down and no longer take part in the war would be the hard task.

The new arrival facinated Druak. Very much like Jeta once facinated Atakai. Druak had read about them but never actually saw one. Druak grunted a bit as the pointed claws dug into the bare skin of his shoulder. Druak was starting to get accustomed to the mind and listed to the voice as he rubbed the nuckle of his fointer finger against Jeta's chest. "Archetoothes" He said like Atakai before him. "I know of your kind. A pity what man did to them"

Come in the house he said to Felecia. Its getting dark out here and I dont like the dark. Druak stopped rubbing his knuckle against Jeta's chest and wrapped up his forearm with the beat up tunic top he took off ealier. He then held up his forearm for the lesser dragon to step onto. Very much how a human would a pet parrot. Druak would have prefered a falkonry glove to support the little serpant on his hand. But at the moment he just made do with what he had.

Felecia's gaze hardened slightly again at his dismissal. She sighed and folded her wings over her shoulders, hooking them together with the thumb talon,"The king does not want her for something she has done. He wants her because he believes that he owns her. Didn't she tell you? Shruikan is her biological father." she informed him in a flat voice. A growl made her look at Jia, and she raised an eyebrow at the dragoness,"That beast is the father of no child of mine." hissed the golden haired woman. Felecia scowled,"Shruikan is Sarai's father, Jia, like it or not. You didn't see her savagery on the battle field during the War? I can assure you, she didn't inherit that from you." the winged elf turned on her heel and walked into the house, but stopped when Jia hissed,"She is nothing like him, Felecia Blacksword. I should hope that you remember that in the future." snapped the female. Felecia didn't respond or even turn around, just continued walking inside.

- - - - - - - - - -

Jeta trilled contentedly when he rubbed her neck, then her chest. She rubbed her small scaled face gently against his cheek, raising her tail for balance when he moved. She sniffed at the cloth on his forearm, then delicately stepped onto it. She looked up at him sheepishly, knowing why he'd had her move. I'm sorry about my claws. I'm trying to learn how to balance on something without them, but it's hard to combat instinct that is as old as time. she chirped, chagrined.

Druak said nothing at the news he heard. He justed asked her to go in. Walking in afterwards Druak strategically placed himself between the woman and his old slayer shield leaning up against the wall. he said rather calmly. "Lady Felecia could you please check on Sarai for me? I have to talk to Jia in private please for a moment

Moving his arm Druak placed it near the table so Jeta could get off onto a more sturdy perch. "Shruikan!?" He hissed quietly to Jia with a less then happy face. "Nevermind, just hide my shield from view" Hurrying with as much speed and grace without making the cabin floor creek Druak went over to the letter on the table and picked it up in a hurry causing a royal sigil ring from inside to clatter on the table. There was moment of horror. Druak stared at Jeta, back at the ring, then back to Jeta again. Dragonkinds love for shiny things was legendary.

Druak made a grab for the ring.

Jia relaxed slightly when Felecia left at Druak's request to check on Sarai. At his soft hiss of Shruikan's name, however, she scowled and flinched away from him,"Wait until you know the full story before you judge." she retorted harshly, her teal-green eyes flaring with irritation. She glanced at the ring that clattered to the table, noting the royal symbol. Jeta pounced on the ring and nipped playfully at his fingers. Jia held out her hand, and the metallic red dragonette chirped and took wing, delicately placing the ring in her palm. She held it up to the light,"So your father has decided to acknowledge you as his son, as he?" she said quietly, so Felecia wouldn't overhear. She held out the ring to him,"No one in my family will hurt you. They haven't hurt Sarai, have they? And they won't. Because in my opinion, the children are free of any wrongdoing that the parents might have done." she said simply,"All of my family thinks that way."

Druak was greatly irritated at the little serpant biting at his fingers keeping him from taking the ring. "Give it" he wispered with urgency. "For crying out loud your worse then a puppy. Stop it" When the ring finally came under Jia's control Druak came at her while looking over his shoulder to the next room. "Shhh" He said. From his face it looked as if something put the fear of god in him.

"I dont care if you trust her. I dont. Not for my well being anyway. For Sarai, yes. Hearing about how the king thinks he owns Sarai got me to thinking about why he would even send me this letter. Maybe its all some trick. To knock out two birds with one stone"

He peaked back over his shoulder before elaborating. "I remember hearing storys once of some gifted with the ability to transpher souls. According to what I heard it generally works better when done between parents and offspring. We all know the king has lived a long time. But he wont live forever. Not unless he gets a younger body. Grows old and repeats the process"

Druak was probably just being paranoid now. "Can it be done by magic?" He asked. "Or am I just being paranoid?"

Jia looked at Druak carefully,"Felecia has seen far too much blood and death for her share. She just wants the war over and done with. She won't hurt you, not unless you hurt her or her family first." she said firmly. She thought over what he had said, pursing her lips in thought. She did know of one way to do it..."There is a magical way to transfer one soul into another body. My Rider did it with me once, when he tried to protect me from the King. I don't know the Seal itself, Ka kept it hidden from me, as it is a rare Seal to use, and dangerous as well. I don't think there is a way to do it with the Ancient Language." she murmured. She heard a throat being cleared once again and turned to see Felecia leaning against the door frame,"Galbatorix is probably hoping to use Sarai as a bargaining chip. I think he somehow learned of your relationship with her and is thinking that if she was put in harms way, that you would do anything to protect her. Once he finds out she's pregnant, the danger she is in at the moment will double, if not triple. Then he would have the daughter of Shruikan under his command, since once he had you he could threaten your life to make her obey. And he could threaten Sarai's life to make Jia obey. And so on and so forth until he has the entire family under his control. And trust me, if Galbatorix got hold of Zeke Blindscale, Jia's older brother..." her sapphire eyes darkened,"Every rebel would be dead within a few weeks." she said flatly.

So it was possible, the hopeless look on Druaks face pretty much said it all. Hearing the cleared voice behind him he discreetly took the ring and pocketed it before turning around. Druak sat in the table chair with a slump and listed to Felecia. "Well arnt we one big happy disfunctional family" So many possiblitys. Ifs, whys. Who was to know what went through the kings mind. Standing up Druak took the letter off the table and threw it into the burning fire of a stove.

"The letter of pardon is probably a trick" He said no more in the event the woman did not hear the parts of his private conversation about his ties to the king. Druak sat back down in the chair and started twirling a sharp knife that was on it. "Still, in the event I am to be captured and I am not capable of doing the task...." he looked to Jia and back at the knife he was playing with. "I exspect you to do what needs to be done Jia. Just to be safe.

Druak stopped playing with the knife and left it there to get back up and pick up a bottle of dwarven liquer he braught out his bag earlier. He took a swig and started to walk out onto the porch. "Drink, eat, be merry, for tommorow we may die" he said in a famous drinking quote among soldiers. "I'm going to get good and drunk until I wake up in the morning and forget we had this conversation. Cuz if I dont remember it. It never happened"

And so Druak sat down the porch and drank some more.

Jia grimaced at the truth of Druak's statement, sighing to herself. She watched the letter burn for a moment, then looked up at her son-in-law and nodded grimly,"I understand." she said softly. Felecia trilled to Jeta and tilted her head toward the living room. The dragonette chirped back and took wing, zipping into the other room briskly,"She'll watch over Sarai while we all get some rest. I'll set a few wards around the cottage, just to be safe." Jia nodded then glanced after Druak. She pursed her lips, then followed. She sat beside him and motioned for the bottle so she could have a swig as well.

Druak let the corner of his mouth raise in a half smile and handed over the bottle. "Drink up, no one makes spirits like the dwarves. That stuff will make hair grow on your tounge. I was saving it for the day the baby came" He shrugged took back the bottle and had a few more gulps. "But now I kinda hope she has a miscarriage" No child should be born into this kind of environment.

"Not in this kind of family. He raised his eyebrows briefly before taking a few more gulps and handing back the bottle.

Jia took a scorching swig and winced as the spirits burned its way down her throat and into her stomach. She gave the bottle back and looked out into the back yard,"Sometimes, I wish during the fights I went through, that I had miscarried Sarai. She does not deserve to be mistrusted as she is. People learn of her father, and they shun her away like an unwanted disease." she said softly. She took another swig when he handed the bottle back, then set it down between them on the porch. She snorted quietly at his comment,"Not in this family. You nailed that one on the head. What I find ironic about it all, is you are the son of the king, and Sarai is the daughter of Shruikan. Coincidence, perhaps? Maybe." she shook her head,"I don't know anymore." she sighed.

Druak frowned at the mention of the king and picked back up the jug and took another drink. "Bitter old man" He grumbled. "But I guess good looks must run in the family" He motioned to his dragon claw scared face from his battle with the dark temptress and let out the annoying barking noise humans called laughter.

"I am not the only one. There are others. But I never met them" Druak sighed. "I have a promise to keep to my dead sworn brother. His woman. Atakai made me promise to take her as my own should he ever fall. And his wife in turn respects our customs." The dragon foresook her people to live as a human. And to age and die as they do. It was not uncommon for warriors to take a dead friends wife. And not that uncommon as to take two wifes.

"Having a lonely widow in the house is going to be depressing. But that is not exactly my worry. It was no secret she wanted a child." Druak took another drink from the jug and put it down. "And it was no secret either Atakai could never give her one. What I did to Sarai might encourage her to repeat the process

Druak shook the half empty jar to hint to what his weakness was. "It wont take much to put me out of my wits. I have a weakness for this stuff. Think you could make sure the lonely widows does not take advantage of me cuz?"

"Or maybe I should be worryed more about you?" He asked Jia with a now slowly slurring voice. "Bah, I'm just kidding woman, dragon, uh thing" He waved a hand of dissmissal. "I dont know what to call you. But seriously? Why do your kind take such buetiful forms? What is the whole purpose? Are you trying to save your dying race by mixing blood?"

He chugged the rest of the bottle and tossed it to the ground. "You all look human but deep down inside still are animals. Super predators born and bred for once perpose. Just look how your bodys are designed. A living weapon that brings death and pain wherever they go. Flames that burn all life leaving nothing but ash covered earth" Druak stood now on wobbly feet. "That makes sense I guess why all these storys of dragon half freaks running around. Humans are the most dangerous and warlike race in existance. I guess your kind are just trying to breed desirable traits back into your dying race to make them better killars."

"Not your fault though" he said with a deep breath and holding his stomach. "You are animals after all driven by instinct....Freakish shapeshifters toying with fragile mortal hearts that feel more deeply then you could possibly imagine. On how Sarai must enjoy toying with my heart" With that he shutup and made a sick face before throwing up a stream in Jia's diraction.

Jia was quiet as she listened to Druak speak. Her lips thinned at times, but most of what he said was somewhat true, even just a little bit. She looked out into the garden, one ear listening to Druak and the other tuning in to the sounds of wildlife around the little cottage. She looked up to the human, however, when he started speaking of beautiful forms for a dragon when they changed to a twoleg form. Her lips thinned again at his term of dragons being animals ruled by instinct. She, personally, was slightly offended by that, but the truth was, before dragons had been bonded to the Elves, they had indeed been animals. Intelligent animals, but animals. Instinct was how they had survived back then. She sighed a bit, then looked up at Druak again, her eyes narrowing when he accused Sarai of enjoying toying with his heart, just before he threw up. She scooted instantly to the side to avoid the mess. She pushed against the the porch to go to his side and help him, but a black-haired woman beat her.

- - - - - - - - - -

Sarai gently pulled Druak's arm over her neck to support him. She'd heard what he'd said about her, and it had hurt a bit. But he was drunk, too. He wasn't able to resist the wiles of spirits very well. She glanced at her mother, who nodded. Sarai gently eased Druak down into a sitting position, then sat behind him and rubbed his back. She'd carry him inside once he felt better,"I'm here, Druak." she murmured, still rubbing his back,"Why do you insist on drinking, dear one? You know how it affects you..."

It took Druak a minute to register that Sarai was the one that helped him down and spoke. "It dulls the memmory and numbs the pain" Exactly what he ment by that was up in the air for interpretation. But it evidently was not directed at Sarai after what he said next. "Come, the bed grows cold and we still have to break it in."

"I had wanted to carry you through the front door earlier to start things off right. But this will have to do" Druak honestly did not remember anything of what happened after that but he did wake up in the middle of the night. Sleep walking. Or perhaps reliving a section of his life. He was in the kitchen wearing nothing but his chest armor and helmet. As naked as the day he came into the world aside from his old slayer armor.

Out of nowhere he stepped on the stool and moved up onto the table. Hearing something behind him he turned and said proudly. "Behold the glory of the slayers" Whoever it was would be quite eye level with a glory. But not the one Druak was talking about. "The greatest of mans warriors. Destined to fight and kill the betrayers. Our greatest enemy. Our most respected foe"

Druak was quite harmless in this state. But again the word betrayers came up. So often spoke among Druaks kin when he use to be with them. Questions asked now about his old secretive order would be more readily answered now then if asked any other time. The only worry now was if he fell off the table. Trully the drink was an evil thing when abused. It made schondrels of even the most honest men.

Sarai paid what he said not much heed. She knew he was drunk already. Though she did blush a healthy scarlet when he spoke of breaking in the bed. She hoped he meant to merely sleep. Probably. She led him inside and laid him down on the bed, then positioned herself next to him, pulling a blanket over the two of them.

- - - - - - - - - -

Felecia raised an eyebrow when she heard a bit of commotion inside the cottage, and then a voice speaking. She pursed her lips, then turned and peeked inside. The sight she was met with made her blush despite herself and her eyes widen. She coughed, trying gain control of herself again. She decided to shift position so that she was still staring out into the garden but Druak could still see her. She listened as he spoke, and her curiosity was piqued,"Of what betrayers do you speak? Please tell so I might understand." she asked, crossing her arms over her chest and contenting herself to waiting for a bit.

Betrayers!" He said aloud. "Oathbreakers!' He held up a finger and followed up until he held up five. "Not once, trice, But tree times" Druak looked carefully at his five fingers. "yes tree" He said with a slurred voice. "Promises of peace. Embasadors butchered and eaten. There can never be peace. Glory, Ah yes, do you know how we become the greatest warriors? Stronger, faster then normal?" He waved an arm, lost his ballance and fell to the ground only to stand back up as if it never happened.

"The blood of dragons. Many I have helped to kill and earned the privilage of the blood right from the still warm, red river of power. Muscles grow stronger, bones denser, relfexes faster." He belched loudly and shook his head. "Better..... We all go through the trance. That agogizing moment as we are struck with the visions of the dragons blood memory. Most minds are broken. Taken by madness as there minds and body fail to harness the power. We gaurd it from the king you see, less we become wiped out from his fear. The dragons can be bound to us if they wish during this brief window of time. In our weak state.

"The king fears us you see. We hold no loyalty to the crown. But to the people. Many think us savages that hurt the innocent. But those are the pretenders. Thos common soldiers of the king tasked with following us and watching like a hawk. Those pretenders that wear our armor and disgrace the order"

Druaks breathing was a bit labored at this point the effects of the spirit not meant for humans effected him to the point of almost poisoning. He blacked out again only to awake in the morning lying in a lonely bed. He was quick to squint and hiss at Sarai as a curtain opened. Druak put a arm over his eyes and said irritably. "What are you doing woman? Your making the brain baby kick"

Felecia listened with cool interest, her eyes narrowing only slightly at the mention of the blood of dead dragons. Her wings bristled, but that was it. Abruptly she heard a thump and looked inside to see the boy collapsed on the floor. She smiled ever so slightly and walked to his side. She gently wrapped one of his arms around her neck and lifted him up. Once she had him settled in the bed once more, she removed the pieces of armor on his body and leaned them against the wall. She covered him with a sheet, then watched him for a moment. Druak reminded her of her son, Hain. She wondered if Druak and Hain would get along. Leaning down, she lightly kissed Druak's forehead. Such an innocent boy to have such a burdening heritage. She checked on Sarai, then left the cottage and stood outside once more, admiring the stars in silence.

- - - - - - - - - -

Sarai glanced over her shoulder dryly at Druak's complaint,"My dear, it's nearly afternoon. You've slept the morning away. Time to get up. I think that spirit you drank last night is sufficiently out of your system by now. Come on, up up up." she said, sitting on the edge of the bed at his side. She tapped the arm over his eyes lightly,"Come on, sleepy head, time to get up. Don't you want to work in your garden at all today? Perhaps I can help too, if you like." she offered eagerly. Plants and manual, especially the former, helped her forget the things she had seen, done, and experienced in the Allatik War. Helped her lose the depression she had been in since returning home. She hoped Druak accepted,"Or would you like something to eat first? I have some jerky in the kitchen and a few pieces of fruit in a bowl on the table." she said, and smiled down at him, her lavender-flecked-grey eyes glittering warmly.

"Alright!" He complained and waved a hand. "I'm up already" Druak got up with sleepy eyes and put on some cloths. He had no idea how he ended up sleeping without them. But at this point he did not care. As far as he was concerned. If he did not remember it, it never happened.

He had no intention of working on the garden today. Since he was the only man of the house completly surrounded by woman he figured it was up to him to get a job and support his newfound disfunctional family. The job search was not exactly very productive. The first job he managed to find was one where he worked as security for a female elf advisor to the queen. Druak stared at the loincloth she held in her hand with a twitching eye brow. "Uh... yeah..... There is no way in gods green earth I'm wearing that thing. I would rather fight a dragon bare arse naked before I put that thing on.

The womans retort was rather humurous. Appranetly storys traveled fast. "According to what I heard you have done that" She said with a laugh. Druak waved a hand of dismassal. "That incident with Kamerose the dark. That does not count, it was a completly different case. When push came to shove though he ended up with the stupid clothing and the job. At least until something else came around.

Druak returned home early that day not only with a headache from last night but wearing the loincloth of the elven private guard. Keeping his head low to the ground druak thought he saw Jia out the corner of his eye. He just held up a hand as he walked by. "Dont even bother. I'm not in the mood for your smart mouth"

Jia raised her eyebrow when she saw Druak approaching the cottage in nothing but a loincloth. She'd known he'd left the house earlier in search of a job. Sarai had been slightly disappointed that he hadn't wanted to work on the yard, but Jia had offered herself as help. They hadn't done much, just polished things up a bit around the fence and made the dragon statue from Felecia look a bit newer. The gold-amethyst haired woman pursed her lips but kept her mouth shut as he requested. At least, she kept it shut about his appearance,"Sarai is resting at the moment, please try not to wake her. There is some food, if you'd like it, on the table, and some fruit in the kitchen if you'd only like a snack." she murmured, then turned back to hanging up the sheets and clothes to dry. She smiled to herself at how hard Druak was trying to take care of Sarai.

Druak waved a hand of knowledgement to her and headed inside and had a apple to snack on. "Nothing like propping up once feet after a hard days work" He thought and headed to his bag with the alchohol stash. "All i need is something to take the edge off. Druaks eyebrow twitched in involuntary irritation though as he searched. "Were is my rum.... where is my brandy.... where is...." There was only one person that came to mind and he had to suppress yelling her name. "Ok woman, two can play at this game"

Druak waited calmly and plotted his revenge. When he could not see Jia Druak calmly went to the creek in the woods and filled a bucket of water that was terribly cold this time of year. Again going back to the house he checked on Sarai to make sure she was still sleeping. Going back outside to the small wooden bath house with no roof Druak dumped the cold water over the top and laughed to himself as he walked away.

Jia twitched her lips as she heard him ruffling around in his bag, obviously looking for something. She made her way to the bath house with a towel over one arm to clean up from the hard day. She was contentedly scrubbing her hair free of dirt and sweat when she saw a bucket appear over the top of the bath house. Her eyes widened and she opened her mouth, only to have it filled with ice water and her body felt as if she had been dunked into a lake that had just had the ice broken at the end of winter. She squealed, loudly, when she could breathe, shivering with cold. Her eyes blazed with the playful promise of retaliation. She grabbed her towel and wrapped it around herself, then marched out of the bath house, scanning the area close by for Druak's mind. She felt him close by and changed direction, heading toward him. One the way she collected a sphere of water from the air and surrounding plants, and then changed the temperature so it was as cold as ice itself. She peeked around the corner and smirked at him, then launched the two foot ball straight at his back, though she didn't throw it hard enough to hurt. Once it hit him it would splash over him with numbing coldness. Once it hit and he stood, dripping wet, she allowed herself to laugh. A lot. She was laughing so hard her stomach hurt. She wrapped her arms around her stomach and doubled over, gasping for breath. Her teal-green eyes sparkled with laughter and humor as she looked up at him,"Playing one-ups with a dragon is a challenge that will stretch your imagination to the limit, my son." she said, and stood up straight, though she still grinned. She glanced at the house, hoping that their goofing off hadn't woken Sarai.

We will see about that" Druak said with a shivering voice and headed inside to warm up.

Not far away a mushroom cloud of dust exploded into the air and a slight tremor could be felt in the earth. Ba'al fanned a hand across his face to clear the dust and looked to his new master. A ancient earth dragon with milky white blind eyes and tattered wings. "Good, good..... again" Its wise voice.

The young human monk spread his legs shoulder width apart and bent his head low with his hands chest level as if holding a invisible ball. "Close your eyes. Feel the earth vibrate in your bones. Be steady and unmoving as a mountain. Focus hatchling. Mastery of all the elements is a gift few posses. Your are an elementilist. With time and the right dragon teachers. You will attain the enlightenment you seek. Show me your geomancy mortal. It is time for your first molting of skin hatchling

Ba'al took a deep breath and stomped a foot causing a slight rumble in the earth. Squating suddenly the youth smacked his palms against the ground and rock spikes erupted out of the earth. "Very good" The blind earth dragon said again. "But dont let it go to your head. This is only the begining.

Sarai lifted her head and blinked sleepily, then focused when she heard Druak come inside. She pushed the blankets aside and sat up, pushing herself to her feet,"Druak? Why are you soaking wet?" she asked, her eyes wide. She walked quickly over and grabbed a toward, then turned and went back to him and draped the towel around his shoulders, rubbing slightly to warm him up.

Druak flinched a bit when he heard Sarai. He had not wanted to disturb her but apparently that is exactly what happened. "Dont worry about me" He replyed blankly with a shivering voice. "Me and your mom were just having a bit of a spat. Nothing serious really except I am a bit touched with chill.

The rubbing of the towl solved that problem. Feeling much better now Druak went behind Sarai and draped the slightly damp towl now around the both of them and rested his chin on her head. "Have a nice rest?" Druak asked now in a more caring voice. "You were racked out so long I was beginging to wonder if you were lost in the dream realm." The dream realm. A plain of existance between the living and the dead. A sillly human superstition. That crossed the different cultures of mankind but still came to the same thing, even if told differently.

The brief moment of intamacy they shared came to a stop as some furniture and even the house itself seemed to shake. "What now?" Druak complained. Just as quickly as it started the shaking stopped. "Just a tremor I guess" He said. "I did not know this part of alagasia suffered from earth shakes?"

Sarai frowned and ignored him, continuing to rub until he didn't shake shiver with chill anymore. She eyed him curiously as he went behind her, then smiled slightly when she felt him embrace her with the towel. She closed her eyes and leaned back against him, smiling a bit when he rested his chin on her head,"Very nice. I feel well rejuvenated now." she replied, sighing a bit with content. Her eyes shot open when she felt the beginnings of a tremor with her abilities, and stiffened accordingly to keep herself and Druak upright. She swallowed to control the roll of nausea that threatened to heave up from her stomach. She shook her head to clear it once the earth shake was over,"No, they're not, at least not around here. That didn't feel natural, though." she said, tilting her head a bit to the side. Jia came in, her long golden hair still dripping wet and clinging to her back. Her teal-green eyes were anxious, and Sarai answered her question before she could ask it,"Yes, mother, we're fine. It was not such a bad shake that we couldn't keep our balance." she said. But it worried her that it hadn't felt natural. It felt like it had come from a central point, similar to ripples in a body of water when you dived in, or a shock wave from an explosion.

"Whatever it was its not our problem" He said irritably. "Dont go looking for trouble and it wont find you they say. If it is a problem let some single young hero seeking glory and honor deal with it." Druak suffered no dillusions. He missed his old life of adventure and dragon slaying. The rush and heat of the moment in battle and the feel of seeing new unexplored and forgotten places.

But he had a family to take care of. He lost that privilage. Eying Jia Druak raised an eyebrow. "Mind if you let us have some alone time? The last thing we need right now is you clucking over us like a mother hen. Everything is fine"

"Go clean my laundry or something woman" The last sentence he said in a joking way.

Despite his dismissive words, Sarai felt his heart pound with excitement through the earth beneath her feet at the thought of action once more. This saddened her slightly. She had taken that away from him. She closed her eyes and sighed a bit, leaning back against Druak as he spoke to her mother. Jia seemed hesitant to leave, but finally she did with one more glance over her shoulder. Sarai heaved another sigh and leaned her head on Druak's shoulder,"There is nothing wrong with wishing for the old days." she said softly. She opened her eyes. "I won't hold you back if you want to return to being a Slayer. I'll just wish you luck and safety. You were pretty much born into it. Almost literally." she said, pursing her lips a bit.

Druak could not help but feel a bit irritated at what Sarai said. Even though he knew she ment well. "Have you forgotten that I cant go back? The king in his paranoia wiped out the blood legion. My family. Any surviving members of my former outfit has a kings ransom in gold for there head in a burlap sack. Wether I miss the old days does not matter. I am rather fond of my head where it is. On my shoulders.

True he got a letter of pardon. But Jia and him both came to terms it had to be some kind of trap. "Living here is not so bad anyway. I can deal with this shoddy job I have until something better comes along" This made him remember an offer he got earlier. "I was approached today by an elven blacksmith that is seeking a new apprentice. I told him I had some experience and had to craft something. I dont know if he will get back to me though. The moody old dog had a blank face when he looked at the scimitar I made."

Sarai bit her lip and nodded, sorry she had brought it up at all. Though she did agree in that she liked where his head was. She looked back at him as he changed the subject, which she didn't argue with. She raised an eyebrow and tilted her head,"Mesaraih, Felecia's mate, is very adept in blacksmithing, as is Keralin, an elven friend of the family. Perhaps you could learn more to improve on your skills from them and then apply them toward apprenticeship again." she offered. She didn't know either man well, but knew they wouldn't mind her offering their help. Jia's voice drifted through the door,"Naixul is on his way here. Said he should arrive within an hour." she informed. Sarai grimaced and sighed,"Thank you, mother. He doesn't know exactly where I live so I might have to go meet him and lead him here, like I did with Druak." she said, though she said this more to herself than to Druak or her mother.

Druak gave a smirk at Sarai. "At this point I would do anything except what I'm doing now. Running around in leather and a loincloth as a elf witches personal guard is getting annoying. Heck, I am even considering working in the mines of Osirus outside the forest.

Hearing Jia's voice drift through the door it took druak some time to remember the name. "Oh wonderful" he complained and released his hold around Sarai. "If he is coming I better make sure Vanviir soul forge is sharp With that Druak went over to the armor stand in the corner of the bedroom where his old blood legion armor was. Druak took hold of the sword sheath and pulled out his adoptive fathers ancestral sword with a clean sound of rubbing metal.

"I'm sure it will not mind the taste of wyrm blood once more. Druak examined the sword through the light of a window and sheathed it again with a resounding clack as the sword hilts guard hit the sheaths hard tanned leather.

Sarai grimaced at the thought of Druak working the mines, but didn't comment. She looked over her shoulder for a moment when he released her, tilting an eyebrow in question, but her eyes widened when he lifted his old sword and inspected it in the light of the window. She blinked, shivering a bit, but turned slowly, her eyes serious and intense,"Naixul won't hurt you." she said quietly, shaking her head slowly,"He'll barely lift a talon to someone who actually intends him harm. He's barely even a dragon for how meek he is. If you come at him with aggression or violence, he'll shut down and revert to the obedient servant dog that Galbatorix beat and tortured into him." she murmured quietly. She bit her lip,"You'll understand more when you see him." she added, her tone saddened.

Druak almost said something smart back to Sarai until he noticed the sadness in her voice. "If you say so my shining star. I shall come before him bare of armor or sword." He just hoped his trust in her was true. "If your going out to see your... old friend here I would ask that your mother accompany you." The way he said it hinted that this was none negotiable.

Druak did not want Sarai going anywhere without an escourt in the event something unforseen happened. Her human soul mate was a firm believer that bad things generally happened the moment you let your guard down. "You two ladys have fun. I will be fine here on my own. It will give me time to relax a bit and work on the garden."

Despite his own beliefs Druak would let his guard down. He would be alive when Sarai and her mother returned. But bad things would happen while they were away. You could leave an old life behiind. But eventually old enemys come calling. Or those seeking vengeance over past wrongs.

Sarai glowered halfheartedly at Druak, but didn't argue. She placed a hand on top of her stomach protectively, pursing her lips a bit,"Alright, I will. Felecia is close by as well, if you have need of her, for whatever reason. She's a warrior to reckon with." she said, tilting an eyebrow. She picked up her shawl and wrapped it around her shoulders, calling out to her mother. Jia quickly joined her at the door. Sarai paused and glanced over her shoulder, fixing Druak with a stern glance,"Stay out of trouble. Jeta is still in the house if you want her aid in the garden or something." she said, then opened the door and left, her mother close behind her.

She walked for several minutes at a quick pace, trying to reach the field he'd said he'd be at before he arrived. She came to it after fifteen minutes of rapid walking, and still had some time to spare. Both women leaned against a tree to wait. Five minutes later, the black-scarred-white male dragon appeared above them, silent as a shadow, almost like an owl.

Sarai smiled up at Naixul, pleased to see him. Once he had touched down and folded his wings, she eagerly went to him and hugged him around the neck. His purr rumbled in his chest and he peered at he with his one good eye, the chocolate brown iris sparkling with content. It is good to see you, dear one. he murmured to her, making her cheeks flush slightly with heat. He gently nudged her arm with his smooth snout, softened by the numerous beatings from Shruikan. Sarai scratched his jaw, pursing her lips and taking a deep breath as she prepared to tell him about Druak and the baby that she carried.

His expression changed to one of soft concern, as well as a sheepishness that displeased her to still see in him. Is something wrong, dear one? he asked anxiously. Sarai smiled and shook her head,"No, Naixul. Just...have to tell you something." she murmured. He hummed in his chest and sat on his haunches, waiting for her to begin. She took a breath and pressed he forehead to his snout. Then, mentally, started explaining the situation to him.

Post Re: Saints and Sinners (open)
Druak pointed a finger at Sarai. His face speaking for him. "Dont give me that look" Druak worryed for Sarai sometimes. She was extremely prideful like most of her kind. A strength sometimes, a weakness most of the time. In the past him and other slayers killed her kin quite easily by luring them in with public displays of bravado. Dragons loved a challange and it hurt there pride when a lowly mortal human taunted them. It did not matter that they were outnumbered and outpowered. Still they came with a suicidal attack to punish the imputant humans that dared to challange them. One of the elder race. Foolish pride was the primary reason why there kind were dying out so quickly and easily. They did not heed the wings of change and adjusted to the times.

You either changed with the times. Or joined the other extinct races in the halls of history. Change was something mankind was always good at. They were survivors. Evidence enough seen today. There ancestors came to this country as refugees fleeing a dying homeland and now they were the most dominent race in all the country. Despite there weak frail bodys. A mystery many none human scholars have tryed decades if not centurys to figure out. Many attribute mankinds success as a people to there intelligence.

Or perhaps there success was attributed to something else. The fabled strength of the human spirit.

Druak did not bother to see Sarai or her mother off. He already publically forced his will on her in front of her mother when he told Sarai not to go alone. He feared any more displays of worry would tred on Sarai's toes. He would give her some space out of respect. It was kind of an unspoken rule between the two of them. To nag only a little but never to much as to breed the emotion of distain.

The work on the plants was going well enough. The little flying rat Jeta thankfully did not bother Druak much. He tolerated her presence if nothing else. Still he stopped his work to look for her in worry of what mischief the little serpent was probably getting itself into.

A puff of dirt and heavy breathing caught Druak offguard as he raised an arm to shield his eyes from debree. Upon removing it he gazed upon a battle scarred dragon that mirrored one from memory. Its voice intruded on his mind and dripped with anger. "So it is true that you hide here. I am Thro'thring layed by Hav'ya born from the mighty seed of Hrrong. You were one of those that killed by father. I will burn the flesh from your bones"
The deep inhaling was all the warning Druak got as he managed to get up and went at a deadsprint into the wooden house through the door he left open. A bad habit Jia always lectured him about. The habit very well saved his life as the house was set afire like a tinder box.

Inside Druak was desperatly trying to get on his old armor. The chainmail was proving the hardest with the lasps. The plate mail came easy enough and not to soon as flaming wooden beams that helped support the roof came crashing down. Taking hold of his shield in one hand and the family sword in the other Druak grimanced at the waves of heat assualting his body from being inside a burning house. There appeared no way out so Druak made an exit. The wood was weak and brittle now from the fire so Druak used his shield and the force of his body to come crashing through the wall sending flaming embers and wood out in a explosive burst.

The display of bravado in crashing through the wall gave off the false impression of incredible strength as it was already brittle from the fire. Druak would get no moment of peace as the dragon already had him in his sights.

"I knew your sire wyrm. The world is better off without him. You come here to avenge your man eating father." Druak started to smack the flat of his sword against the shield in challange before finishing. "Now you shall share his fate." It would almost be seen as a dark statment. But the assualt on his well being and the family home now burning to the ground could not go unpunished. Young dragon or not Druak would try to kill it. Though he never killed one of there kind by himself before. The thought of the burning house briefly made him remember Jeta. "Oh well" he thought not so much out of not caring. But having more important things to worry about. Like the dragon in front of him.

Druaks slayer spirit was stilll strong. But his body and skills failed him. As the dragon would point out an mere minutes later after Druak came flying through the air to hit the ground rolling. His once magnificent armor dented.

"Pethetic' The dragons voice sound in Druaks mind. "I had heard you were a fearsome enemy. I also heard you had nested with one of my sister kin. Your union has left your skills dulled like a unused blade slayer." Druak got up pitifully and gave a weak shield bash against the dragons face followed by a slow sword swing. The serpent dodged the humans attacks easily and took hold of him in a foreclaw and slammed him several times into the ground before bringing up druaks limp body face level.

"Your not even worth killing. I see now there is no glory in killing such a pethetic creature. The shame you willl suffer from this is punishment enough two leg." With that the dragon slammed him some more into the ground and tossed him aside like trash with a clatter of Druaks dented armor. "I forgive, and pity you both. Betrayed by your own king and soft from homecooked meals and a female warming you bed every night

" Enjoy this pethic thing you call a life" With that the creature departed leaving Druaks broken body on the ground next to the flaming home that trailed smoke in the air. Many bones and ribs were broken. His skull and even a few vertebre in his spine was fractured. Cracked but not broken. The internal hemmoraging throughout his body was life threatening if untreated. Getting druak out of his old slayer armor to treat the injurys though would prove difficult. Like a tin can it was dented and crushed in various places. Including the helmet.

If he survived the injurys. Magic or not. Druak would need some serious physical therapy to regain his strength. He would never be able to be a warrior again. His shattered knee would see to that. A injury that would leave a permenent limp. His body would heal. But the mind and shame of this day would never be the same again.

Post Re: Saints and Sinners (open)
Sarai tensed as she finished explaining, waiting for Naixul to speak. He was thinking, that much she could feel through their mental connection, but she could not hear what he was thinking specifically. She bit her lip as she waited a few minutes and still he hadn't spoken. She pulled away and turned, her face saddened. I understand. You do not wish to be my mate any longer. she said, blinking away tears. He did not respond.

She bit her lip and began to walk toward her mother, but the warm touch of his wing stopped her. He prummed and pulled her around to face him, looking into her face with his one chocolate brown eye. Of course I want to be your mate. Dragons mate forever, remember? You are the one that told me that. he murmured, nuzzling her face with his snout. She smiled widely with relief and sighed, hugging his muzzle.

Sarai glanced over her shoulder when her mother made an impatient noise,"Alright you two lovebirds, enough of that. Let's return to the cottage. And can we do so in dragon form? I've been in human form for too long and I miss being dressed in scales." asked Jia. Sarai smiled and laughed, touching her Changing Seal.

She shook herself, making her black-gold scales rustle, and Jia did the same with her gold-amethyst scales. Naixul nuzzled the side of her stomach, twining his tail with hers. When will the child be born? asked the black-scarred-white. Sarai pursed her lips. They didn't actually know. We're unsure of when exactly. Half-bloods of this degree are very, very rare. she said, sighing.

They had been walking for sometime now and suddenly Sarai stopped cold. Something was wrong. She didn't speak, only shared what she felt with Naixul and Jia. Without a word all three dragons sprang into a run. Sarai was fast, but she was quite aware of how pregnant she was at the moment. Naixul pulled away and arrived first. The cottage was in a roar of flames, and Sarai was terrified that Druak had been inside.

Squawks and shrieks off to the side told her that he wasn't. Jeta was at Druak's side, her eyes whirling with concern and shame, butting his shoulder gently. Naixul was there as well, his good eye assessing the damage. Dragon. You're lucky he's alive. he said shortly. Sarai roared her fury to the skies, black-gold flames licking at her teeth but not leaving her maw. She would tear apart the beast that hurt her mate! But for now she forced herself to calm down.

Felecia arrived just then,"The statue alerted me to the danger." she looked around and anger flitted across her face,"I regret I did not get here sooner." said the elf, the anger barely contained within her voice. Sarai snarled angrily, her scales bristling. It's done, it doesn't matter anymore! Heal him! she barked at Felecia.

The elf did not ask questions or need to be told twice; she knelt to the ground and closed her eyes, hovering her hands above Druak's broken body. With a briefly spoken word, the metal armor broke apart and fell away from his body.

Sarai paid it no head, and it could be fixed later if Druak wished it. She only cared about him. She surrounded his mind with her own, murmuring and crooning to him.

Don't you dare leave me now Druak Kadaj.... she growled into his mind affectionately, using his full name, which she rarely did. She watched as Felecia slowly healed his body. Gradually, after a long, agonizing wait, the only physical signs that he had been in a fight were various scars on his legs and his knee.

He would always have a limp. Riding a horse would probably be a little painful for him. He wouldn't be a warrior anymore. Sarai didn't care. But she was worried. Felecia didn't stop murmuring in the ancient language. That must mean there was even more damage inside Druak's body. She blinked, angrily tears making her eyes gleam.

I'm going to kill the dragon who hurt you. Perhaps it is why he did not kill you, but he should have known better to attack the mate of a dragon. Usually, such an offense is met with a fight to the death, especially if the mate was killed from their wounds. I will find him and I will rip him apart. she murmured softly. Naixul bared his teeth slightly, his upper lip trembling in a half-snarl.

And I will help, dear one. He is your human mate and the father of your child, both of whom are now part of my family. he said, nudging her shoulder. Sarai smiled a bit at him and rested her head next to Druak's hand.

Post Re: Saints and Sinners (open)
Druaks vision started to whiten at the blood loss inside his body. Not enough was getting to his brain and already he started to fade from the world. Agonizing screams came from his mouth at the pain that came from healing. It was a good pain though as bones cracked and mended back as they should. His screams also were a good sign he would live.

"I'm going to cut out your heart!" He screamed at the woman healing him. Hopefully she did not take his words seriously. Warriors often yelled worse to there best friends and shield brothers when they were burning the stumpy ends of limbs and pulling out arrows after a battle.

With the worst of the pain gone and healed Druak propped himself up on a elbow and looked mournfully at the burning ruins. "Our home...." He turned then to Sarai. "I'm sorry I could not save it. I knew how fond you were of it" Even after almost dying Sarai's conforts were first on his mind. Admirable, and foolish. A home could be replaced. His life, not so easily.

"My knee aches" he said with gritted teeth. "A deep long lasting ache" He was no idiot. Even after the almighty powerful magic was done if pain llingered anywhere he would never the the same there.

Sarai tried her best to block the screams of Druak from her ears, but tears pricked her eyes nonetheless. Felecia ignored them too and continued healing him to the best of her ability. She tried to comfort him with her mind, but the pain must have been too great for him to hear her. Finally, after long minutes that felt like hours, the female elf slumped to the side on the ground and laid still. Sarai was concerned that she had pushed herself too far and had just passed into the void, but her panic was soothed when she saw Felecia's chest and sides move as she breathed. The black-gold dragoness pressed her snout into his side gently, careful not to hurt him. A thing can be replaced. A life can not be. I don't care about the house, only that you are now safe. she said, purring in her chest and throat. She sounded similar to a giant cat. She blinked, and her eyes filled with anger. Whoever it was that attacked you will pay dearly, this I swear! He's lucky you were not more grievously injured or that I got here sooner. I would have ripped his hide into shreds and made you armor from his scales. she hissed venomously, smoke trailing up from her nostrils. Naixul nudged her shoulder gently. Calm yourself, little heart. Your anger might disturb the young one. he soothed. Her scales bristled but she instantly calmed down. The only reason I'm not already hot on his trail is because I am heavy with child. Once I am no longer gravid, I am hunting down that cowardly snake and killing him for attempting to kill my mate. And don't you dare try to talk me out of it, Druak. Such an offense as attacking the mate of a dragon deliberately can be taken as a fight to the death, especially if said mate was killed or crippled for life. Of which you have been. she said, licking his injured knee gently with her barbed tongue. Jia bared her teeth in a snarl of agreement but made no sound. Sarai laid down on her stomach so that Druak could lean back against her side and rest. She curled her neck around him and pressed her warm neck scales against his crippled knee, hoping the heat of her body would help soothe the ache some. She blinked. Oh...Druak, this is Naixul. Naixul, this is Druak. she introduced, having forgotten that the two did not know each other by name. Naixul bowed low, dipping his head respectfully to her human mate. A pleasure, sir. If there is anything I might do for you, please do not hesitate to ask it of me. said the black-scarred-white. Sarai growled softly and Naixul jerked, surprised, then blinked sheepishly at her. Sorry, sorry, habit...but the offer still stands. said the male quickly, glancing at Druak with his good eye.
