Wow. Did you not read the part of the book where Peeta tried to keep Katniss alive during the whole Hunger Games? Or did you conveniently skip over that little piece?

Actually, I might have, because I don't remember anything that Peeta did, beside making Katniss go to the feast because he needed medicine for the blood poisoning *shrug* well, and laying in a mud bank but we've out worn that one already

Considering that I've only read THG once, 2 months ago in a little over a day, I don't have much of a chance. I guess I'll just give up. I could never win in an argument with you anyway. Let's just say we have our own opinions, and leave it at that.

No, I probably would've argued with something leaning more on the pensive side than scientifical, lol. Like, "The grass can be any colour because we have no way of distinguishing if all colours are really the same colour. And through my eyes and the way I wish to recall the grass as I want, I might think of it as purple and I might let my mind's eye label it as purple, so to me, it is purple and there's nothing you can do about it." But that doesn't mean I would win every argument, RimRim =]

Shut up, Fang!!! DX

Lol. :) Is your HG fanfic a continuation of the book or just a side story that could have taken place at some point of the story?

It's a version in the POV of someone in the 77th Hunger Games. So, you can tell where it takes place if I say the game Katniss participated in in The Hunger Games was the 74th.

So, Hunger Games. I don't normally go for YA books anymore, because of Bella phenomena and other annoyances. I've thought about making an exception here, because it sounds interesting, but... :_:

DAMNIT! Kotor won DX

You should really read it, it's gotta be my favourite book because it's the only medium-sized novel (over 400 pages) I've ever read in a whole day. And it's also got some of the most emotional areas I was even getting really anxious as the games were beginning >.<
Definately underpraised, though they are making a movie.

And read my fanfic!!

The release for the third and last installment is scheduled for sometime in 2010.

And here I am stuck again with another incomplete series. You people are HORRIBLE!!!

Why did I let myself be convinced into it? Oh the wait, the horrible, dragging, inexorable pass of time and anticipation for the last book!

2. I thought Rue was going to be a mean character... >.<

I thought they were going to have to fight... :/
That was really sad.............................................

2.) Yeah, I had similar thoughts; I thought Rue would ambush Katniss or something. She was a nice character.

At what part did you "lol"?

Yeah, tell me about it! I'm not sure, I thought they took their DNA and did something to them to create a weird creature, or something like that. Maybe they explain it more in Catching Fire, which we still need to read.

WOW, Team Gale???

I am all for Team Peeta. If I liked the first book, the second one was even better, besides a lot of less mushy, gushy fluff in it. The conflicts faced in the second one were just nerve-breaking.

I wish we could discuss the second one. My daughter has not read the first one yet, my co-workers don't read for leisure and I am DYING to talk about it!

@rpm: Oh okay, gotcha. Yeah, the first one was amazing, but I have yet to read the second one and decide for myself which is better.

@Annie: Booya, Team Peeta! Well, I don't enough about Gale to have a solid opinion right now, but I don't see anything wrong with Peeta's character. He seems like a really sensitive guy to me.

You've read the second one, Annie? You could discuss it in the Catching Fire topic here in Books.

OH YES! I read them both!

I LOVE PEETA! He's caring, sensitive, mature, determined, intelligent, selfless and all that, but when he has to put his foot down, he does it with no qualms.

Yes, I did finish "Catching Fire." And even in this book we get to know little about Gale.
I view him as that friend that kind of shares all with you, knows who you are in essence and slaps you silly when the situation merits it. But I cannot, for the love of me, see him as a romantic partner for Katniss.
Don't get me wrong, I like Gale; he has character in what little we see of him, but not what Katniss needs in a romantic partner.
At least, that's my line of thought!

He's kind of the "Jacob" of the "Twilight" series and Peeta is more like the "Edward," but Peeta has more spine than Edward.

That's the perfect way to describe Peeta. He doesn't hesitate in sharing his feelings toward Katniss. He basically told the whole country in that interview.

I haven't read Catching Fire, but that's probably how I would assume Gale to be. Sure, he's a great hunter and he's apparently "jacked up", but there's more to a relationship than those aspects. I think Katniss needs someone like Peeta for his calm and smooth nature. :)

Nice analogy! I haven't read the Twilight series either (man, I need to pick up a book more often!), but I know enough about those two characters to realize that what you say fits.

Toph, honestly by the end of Hunger Games I still not had made my mind on who of the two I would like for the pairing, but after Catching Fire, PEETA captured my heart!

Gale is more, idk, he's just not as a rounded of a character as Peeta.

What do you think Pres Snow may be facing at the moment in Panem??

Yes, that's true. He's more of a side character anyway. His personality is rather one-dimensional.

*spoilers*
I'm not exactly sure... I was like  when I read about District 13! The very end of CF was insane. And poor Peeta! I hope he's alright... Who knows what they're doing to him v.v Should we move this discussion to the CF topic?

...but why? I mean, he's not like the kind of person that gets all the attention, the perfect guy that's all charismatic or w/e. He's so much more modest and humble... He's always exhibited a simple goodness, in my opinion. Not trying to, he's just like that. If that's what pisses you off, well, I can't argue with you about that. We have our own views, I guess we can leave it at that.

Maybe I'm just pulling personal elements into my opinion of the characters. I apologize.

LOL! No, Toph! I do not think you are. Actually Peeta's character is a lot more believable. He is not "a goodie-goodie two shoes" like Edward Cullen.
On the contrary, he has his moments which makes the character so much more believable. And even though he loves Katniss, he has no qualms when he needs to get his points across.

He is selfless and smart. He admits his faults and weaknesses. But he also acknowledges he is human, and absolutely not a "know it all." In the second book we really get to know him better and I just loved him!

Maybe the fact that we know so little about Gale has been a determining factor in my liking Peeta. Oh well... one of the wonders of free choice! :)

Funny Kotor... I can imagine you being a Peeta!

Strangely, I would much rather Gale and I feel like I'm the only girl who likes him :/

No your not. I found Peeta annoying. He's to nice, maybe it's just that I don't know anybody thats as selfless as him so I can't relate him to anybody.

@Toph-It's not that he's nice and all. That's perfectly alright, of course. :) I have an inbuilt prejudice against a lot of young men from having to deal with them for so many years... I tend to not like any characters that possess or show any of the 'traits' because they remind me of it. Eragon also falls under this heading, for example.. It's why I stopped reading young adult fiction years ago. Nothing really to do with the story, or Peeta really, just me being stupid lol xD

I just think Peeta would not be as up-and-going as me, therefore a drag. He's just toohumble. I'm into adventurous. Gale and Katniss reminds me of me and my childhood friend. We used to always explore in the rainforest around where we lived (in a rural area) and go swimming in creeks, explore old overgrown mills, trains etc. Not joking. So yeah, that's why I have more of a connection with Gale than Peeta.

Oh okay, well you should have mentioned this before!

But remember, (and I'm not meaning to sound harsh here) this isn't about you, it's about Katniss. I mean, yeah, she is a pretty "up-and-going" person, hunting and supporting her family and all, but I see things differently. Katniss needs a sensitive guy like Peeta.

Besides, it isn't like Peeta is a weak person or anything. It's just that his life doesn't revolve around that, like Gale's.

Well, I suppose we all have personal reasons and our own thoughts behind opinions, so don't worry, let's just go with it ^^ Agree to disagree. =)

@Annie: I like your description of Peeta. Couldn't have said it better myself.

@Silv: Ah... I understand. Heh, I'm at the other end of the spectrum; quiet, boring, a "drag" -.-' lol

Hehe, I'm just kidding, but it's nice to share opinions and stuff through debate.

Yeah, I liked her analogy about Peeta being like the "Edward" but with more spine. I liked the word "spine!"

Yeah, she needs her hunting buddy, but not as a romantic partner. Think about it, if the two of them are off in the forest hunting, and if they're together, they could get distracted. If that happens, they won't be able to support their families by retrieving food.

Well, I don't know if they still hunt and everything in Catching Fire, but oh well.

I can see where you are coming from Silv, however, the girl needs something more than a hunting partner in her life. The friendship between Gale and Kat was born out of common goals, pain, fear and needs. This at a very early age; Kat was 11 at the time of her father's accident. And she did not seem to be the most outgoing person...
Pls do not misunderstand me; I am not trying to change your mind or feelings towards who would be the best guy for Katniss.

Let's see what happens in Book 3. If what I saw in book 2 develops, then I will have my say on it.
Darn, why do I let myself get dragged into unfinished series!

I'm mainly just imagining myself as Kat here. And I wouldn't mind a "hunting partner" for life. It's basically on the account of envisioning Katniss and Gale running off together. It sounds to me like it'd be a better fantasy than any previous -- or any more -- Hunger Games with ... Peeta.
But I do understand, she pretty much was forced to befriend Gale [ok, maybe not in those words]. Gale is still not the exact same person as Katniss. I've read over many parts lot's of times. He seems really smart and likes to poke fun at Katniss, though he's tough and gritty. A survivor.

I see where you guys are coming from, but for me, Peeta just is too much of a drag still.

I don't know Ms Collins enough to guesstimate who Kat will be with in the end, but out of ol' fan-demand it'd probably be Peeta anyway.

Still, that fantasy keeps me hanging =]

The rumor is that "the third book is tentatively slated for a 2010 release," and that the titled will be "The Victors."
Don't take my word for it; that's the speculation at the online communities.

IDK where people got this from, I do however, highly doubt if Collins would release a title so far away from the supposedly release date.

Catching Fire was published on Sept. 1, 2009, so it may be possible she'll publish by the same date next year.

"The Victors"? Whoa ... I never heard of that ... is it on her site?
Agreed. It'll probably be around near then. But she might back the book much larger, so who knows. It may take two years.

Thanks Annie!! I particularily have liked this theory so far.

SPOILERS
Quote:
I'm really upset that Peeta is captured as well, but it feels right to me, and here's why: For the first two books, Katniss has formed this incredibly strong bond with Peeta, but all the while been mulling over her possible feelings for Gale. In this book, it was clear that her feelings about Gale are tied to her belief in a revolution, saving everyone from the Capitol. I think that in the third book, she's going to start to develop a relationship with Gale, but find that the whole time she's thinking about Peeta. Forming an alliance with him in the same situations she's had with Peeta will prove to her that Peeta is really the one she wants to be with.

/SPOILERS

Although, it kinda seems unlikely.

Hm, The Victors seems like a cool name. I really have no idea what it could be about though...

Yeah, she's fast for going through that whole book process in a year. But the final book of a trilogy should take a good amount of time to write, so I don't we should expect it too soon. It depends how much of an outstanding finish she wants to make to her series.

*Refrains from reading!* Lol.

Oh my goodness. I loved the Hunger Games. I'm not even sure if I liked the second one more or less. It's really creative and not many modern writers can be creative. Obviously everything has already been done more times than I can count. I can hardly wait for the third. I heard someone bought the rights to it. Like, they MIGHT make it into a movie.

Well I'm curious about who's for Peeta and who's for Gale, sorry I'm so behind, you don't have to answer the question expecially if you've already discussed it, like I said, just curious.

I really cannot see her ending up with Gale.

I wonder what happened with Cinna. One of my favorites and the more I listen to the books, the more I am convinced he was part of the underground movement.

Peeta just annoys me, ever since he was crying right after he was called up to enter the games in the first book and Kat was all calm and taking things as they were.

In the first book it was his first time as a designer for the games. And he told Kat he asked to do district 12. So .... hmm ...

Yup, he did cry, however, how would you react if your very own mother as a "good-bye" would say It seems like D 12 finally has a chance. She's a survivor that one. We all know she was referring to Katniss.
In reference to Cinna,There are other little things that lead me to believe he was part of the movement, but I cannot write it down now. I have to go to work!

I don't know if I said this yet or not, but I'm Team Peeta :)

It's official, from Scholastic themselves. Here's the link if you don't believe me. And it's coming out August 24th, so it's not that far away! :]

Lol, yup! I wonder if the name can give us any clues about what's going to happen in the book...

Something with Katniss I suppose. I know, I'm good.

Hm, something along those lines. I actually found this article from this Facebook page and it has some pretty interesting theories regarding why the book is being named Mockingjay. It can be pretty spoiler-ish though, if you haven't read the books yet.

http://www.hogwartsprofessor.com/who-is ... s-trilogy/

Basically they're theorizing that Haymitch or Madge's mom could have been involved in setting up the whole 74th Hunger Games. I guess it's possible, or it could be total rubbish xD Though I do think Haymitch is involved somehow. He was always planning on Katniss winning, that's why at the end of Catching Fire Katniss attacked him because he let Peeta get taken by the Capitol. It's all so complicated, lol.

Anyway, I heard that Collins finished writing the screenplay for the first movie. I think that's good that she's writing it. Guess it'll be a decent adaptation then. I'm just glad M. Night Shymalan isn't writing or directing this one

That's good news then... this fansite here has documented extensively what happens when the author isn't involved enough in the screenplay.

Yeah... there's something up with Haymatch. *reads catching fire again*
I want to know more about this whole District 13 bit.. that didn't make much sense. So they weren't actually destroyed or attacked at all, and just sat there? :?

PS: Avatar might still be good, optimism! n_n

Hey Silver!!!! It turned out she did need Peeta more than Gale...AND I LOVE IT!!!
I was somewhat disappointed with Gale, however there were many previous clues as to how he would react to the rebellion. *shakes head* sooooo disappointed....
Anyway, it was Peeta, even in his damaged state that gave Katniss the love, strength and hope she lacked at the end of it all, and I am happy for that.

AnnieBee wrote:
True she is strong, but Peeta is also strong in other areas in which she is not. Ummm, the Capital fixed that leg...remember, so yes, he can kick her if needed! :-P

I really cannot see her ending up with Gale.

I wonder what happened with Cinna. One of my favorites and the more I listen to the books, the more I am convinced he was part of the underground movement.

I feel so stupid quoting myself....BUT I WAS SOOOO RIGHT!!! Cinna was a lot more involved with the rebels than I thought. I was really sad when it was confirmed he was dead. (I seem to have a knack for loving the characters that end up dead )

And Coin, I disliked her as soon as her character appeared. Haymitch did redeem himself for me, even though I hated him in the 1st two books.
I was devastated with Prim's death and appalled at their mother's reaction. I would have love to give her a piece of my mind. Once more she failed Katniss...
