He was the leader of the vardens, but it is sad that he had to die like that, when you would have guest that it was safe.

yea & orik cuz first his parents die then hrogarth adopts him and then hrogarth dies so yea its like bad luck surrounds him

hrothgar didnt get a chance to fight. He was looking forward to fighting with volund and die with a lot of glory. i guess he did have quite a bit of glory earlier on but he didnt even get to fight and was killed in this battle.

Eldest had so many twists and turns i nearly threw up from motion sickness.

yeah!! Thats what i love about the book..the twist was so good, so suspenceful. When i read it the first time, its like the book had complete power over me...(this may sound corny but im serious)

i kno & i allso had this feeling like i wanted 2 read i as fast as i could but i didn't want 2 finish the book cuz i didn't want it 2 end

yeah. When u finish the book, it seems like suddenly theres nothing to do. Ill take my time with the next book..lol

when i finished the book i wanted to know so bad when the third book was going to come out

Eragon took me a weekend and Eldest 6 days. Although i read it nonstop i like to make sure i get all the details it makes it so much better. And about the twins i new they were
evil(was it not ovious?) i couldnt stand them, i just was waiting for them to try and kill him. Mutzgah(sp? haha) i new was might go evil, i wasnt to happy about that only because i didnt like him enough to give him more of a part, but i was still SO SHOCKED when he threw off his mask and it was him, i thought it would be his father!!
But the part i LOVED i dont no why but it was just when Roran was hiting the ground with his stick and going COME. i just pictured him in there while raining(i dont even believe it was raining in the story) and him just screaming COME and then his speach. Just at that point i liked him mroe then eragon. Hmm, which one do i like better :/

ya i fell srry for hrothgar to because he did not even stand a chance and murtagh well i don't know that he is evil but he did something so bad that when i read eldest i started to cry for a hour and a half and i also fell sad or orik because he lost his mother and father then he lost hrothgar i fell so srry for both of them :(

I was so sad at the end, I had hoped the Murtogh would help the Varden and do the right thing, but instead he stabbed Eragon in the back. Eragon'll have to get his weapon though, under the roots of that tree the werecat mentioned, as long as he had that red sword he didn't need it. I hope the third book is twice as long. After reading the second one I read the entire series again twice.

Eragon took me almost a day and Eldest took me 24 hours. But anyways.....I wish they had more words of the Ancient Language revealed in this book.....me and my friend started to memorize the stuff in the back of Eragon DE and Eldest.

thats cool. I try to memorize it. Yawe means a bond of trust and Wyrda means fate

Everything was soooo cool of Eldest... I really didn't like the parts of Roran cuz it was sort of boring compared to what Eragon was doing right than so.... ya.. There were only a few times when I actually like the parts of Roran like when he reaches Surda, and when he goes into the Boar's Eyes. That part was so...DRAMATIC!

I think eldest was really cool too but the part were eragon is training was kinda boring + after all that training he goes against murtagh and loses.( I thougt that sucked), but besides that, the book rocked.

Yeah it was awesome, but I think that it was necessary for him to loose and make us wonder how Murtagh can posses so much power.....

yeah and it makes me want to know if eragon had been at full strength would he have won

At his level now compare to murtagh, maybe eragon would still lose anyway. he need to train more. he need to acquired a new weapon that is suit not only his skill but also his nature which can reach into his soul and wake the hidden power within him...

What he needs to find out is the secret that they must know to acquire almost unlimited energy. That is what he needs to figure out before they meet again or discover the ancient languages name.

He needs to go speak his name to the Vault of souls or something like that, cant re-read Eragon yet to find out because I lent it to my friend.

That leads to another thing that i should put in book 3 section, but ya i agree, it will be big next time he visits the elves. i also wonder were the Vault of Souls is, it might be the source of Murtagh's new power and Galbatorix's power, so maybe Eragon will have to go to the capital to find it...guess that should have been in book 3 section too

Yea that whole hammer thing going on with Roran is kinda weird. I mean he hits people with hammers, and kills them! But then again I guess they kinda deserved it. I think its cute how he does all that for Katrina!

Lol, but it wasn't for Katrina until he realized that she was real danger now he just kills stuff to get closer to Katrina (except when he killed the twins i think that was for that Varden)

Hey People a thought just struck me. Remeber when Solembum (I don't think I spelled that right) was telling Eragon if he needed a weapon to look under the Menoa tree. I think thats were he gets his next weapon. What do you think?

But I think that this is the best book series EVER! The way I determine if a series is good is if all the events blend into one big story (instead of two). Then, I can't remember if Murtagh and the twins "vanish" in book one, or two. This is a great trilogy!!!!!!!

Hey Incomer! At one point I thought this too. But then the Menoa tree prediction from the werecat came back to me. For some reason I think that this sword will have very powerful magic and only the pure of heart will be able to yield it. Who else can that be but Eragon? What do you think?

Arya, Nasuada, Roran...many good characters

Good morning! Somehow I don't think it will be any of these, even though yes, they are all good characters. Arya is an elf and there has been no elf rider since the battle between elves and dragons; Roran I do hope to become the next rider and that the remainning egg would hatch for him, Nasuada needs to live and therefore lead the Varden into peace and prosperity. So I continue to believe that the Menoa tree is keeping the sword for Eragon.
By the way, shouldn't you be on your way to school? I am in Illinois and I just dropped my daughter at school. HUMMMMMM!

Well I really don't have to be at school right know we has different time of moving in and leaving school.
I don't think that there will be a sword in tree (afterall it will be to familiar-who still didn't hear about excalibur ) and Aray isn't predictible last dragon rider because one egg was near she for VERY long time but nothing happened

Um, wasn't the first rider formed during the battle of the elves and dragons? Since then, most riders were elves, so I'm not sure how there could have been no elf riders since the battle between elves and dragons.

Hi Firetongue! I've been doing all those boring but neccesary tasks Moms have to do.
I've mentioned before that I do not have the books, but the audio CD'S. This makes it hard for me to get the facts from the books. There are a total of 14 CD's in Eragon and 20 for Eldest. This makes it very difficult to pin down where did somthing happen or where you could find the track you wish to hear in order to confirm something. Right now I'm back to listening to Eragon since Marie, my middle child, has a better audio retentive than I do and constantly is asking questions I am not sure of the facts.

Being this said I cannot be assertive as the business between elves, riders and dragons. However you have made me wonder. Wasn't Ayra"s father a Dragon Rider? If this is true, my hypothesis is crashing down as we read or write.

Anyway I do remember that while Eragon was in Ellésmira he was lodged in one of the Great Riders' place; if he was elf or not I cannot recall. I do remember that he was impressed with the simplicity of their living arrangements. Darn, I need to buy those books. This is getting annoying.

Yah, I read Eragon in a day, i just finished Eldest the ending is awesome.

The only bad thing is that it leaves you craving for more. And the MORE still has some time before it comes.

I hope it will be by 2007. The wait has been and is difficult. At least every time I believe I have nailed down a clue, another theory crops up and sets me back to point zero.

Remember how JK Rowling got a bit of writer's block? Even the best authors do! I'm sure Christopher wants to tie up all the loose ends and make it the best book of the three.

You know what I really wonder? How much creative control did he maintain for the movies? They are filming Eragon now. I'm guessing they must have bought the rights to Eldest. But as a first time author - did he have to give away the creative ability to be a part of the script?

In an interview I read on Shur'tgal.com, he said he had not any say in it.

this book had many really surprising twists.
1) murtagh was alive, and was the new rider, who tried to kill eragon
2) the twins were alive
3) murtagh was eragons brother, which means that morzan was eragons father
4) Roran met with Jeod in Teirm and eragon at the end
5)elva met with eragon

I am happy that the twins died, but Murtagh is still somewhat on Eragon's side. Considering he decided not to end up bringing Eragon to Galby after his capture through magic still show what is left of the good in him. It is just that Galby knows Murtagh's true name (I have know idea how) and is making him swear oaths in the ancient language. That is pretty sad being a puppet for someone else. The only thing that is hopeful is Galby will probably not be in favor of losing the onyly dragon rider on his side, so he might not make Murtagh swear to many oaths.

Yeah it was, I agree. But just think they both died for a noble cause and for what they believed in. Which is rather funny considering what Ajihad's name actaully means...but still sad how they died and rather sudden I'd say.

Jeez, I truly feel empty after reading the book too.... And had any of you read other fiction books that mentioned dragons? I read Mercedez Lackey's Dragon series and it is really kinda nice BUT I hate how the author made dragons seemed like simple animals in the book instead of some WISE, MAGICAL creatures like in the Inheritance Trilogy. I really hated Murtagh turning evil coz' I really liked him, as an outsider who is cool, powerful, smart and bonded so tightly with Eragon. To tell you the truth, I would much prefer him as Eragon's friend, companion and BROTHER than Roran. I mean Roran is like so dull with no magic, no special background (Unlike Eragon or Murtagh). I know he's real heroic and all by leading the entire population in Carvahall straight to Surda but I still don't think he's my favorite characters in a fantasy book. (sorry, if I offended any Roran fans coz' I think he's a nice guy juz not a hero...at least not MY hero)
