Very well, dear prince. I shall watch over you, as I always do. she murmured, curling her tail around him protectively. He was asleep in a few moments, even snoring softly. She watched him rest, feeling a tender love for her Rider swell within her chest. She prummed in her throat at the emotion. She was content to wait until he woke; it wasn't everyday that one got their body taken over and their minds disciplined. She laid her head down in a loose circle around Ka, closing her eyes. She was dozing too, though quite alert to danger if she needed to be. It was completely silent for a few moments, then a sharp jab of pain in her lower abdomen make her eyes snap open. It abated almost instantly, though. She carefully hid the strange pain from Ka, aware that he could feel it through their link even if he was asleep. She tilted her head now, curious. It happened again, even sharper this time, but went away just as quickly. What in the world? She laid her head down and decided to mull it over once Ka was awake. She closed her eyes. Now for some reason she was very, very irritated. She hid this from her Rider, not wanting to wake him. _________________ Eka fricai un Shur'tugal. Wiol ono Rest in peace, ILS. Apparently he had been more tired than he realized. After about 4 hours had passed, he awoke, slowly. He cracked an eye open, looking at Jia who seemed to be asleep as well. Not wanting to disturb her, and noting that she was curled in a circle around him, making getting away difficult, he teleported about a foot away from her. Stretching and yawning, he saw that he had managed to get dirt inside of his cloths while he slept. With an irritated huff, and set out to find a stream or creek. Using an Earth Seal, he found something better. Not too far from them was a small river, it was surprising they hadn't heard it. Striping to his under cloths, he waded out to where the water was waste deep. "Gah! Cold!" Once he grew used to the temperature, he swam out a little deeper, going under and generally having a pretty good time. Once he was threw he came back on land, dried off with a Hell Seal, washed his cloths, dried them, and went back to check on Jia. On his way, he noted where the sun was. "Well that can't be right. According to the sun, I've been gone almost 2 hours." He thought a moment, and felt a pit grow in his stomach. If Jia was awake, it was likely that she would wonder where he was and search for him. Him not being there for 2 hours would probably worry her, heck, him not being there for 2 minuets would worry her, much less 2 hours. She closed the eye again, sure that he would be fine for a few minutes. She was deeply asleep in moments. She stirred slightly when she felt him return through their connection, but didn't actually wake. She curled into a slightly tighter ball and grumbled softly in her sleep. Her ear twitched a bit and she was startled awake when she actually heard Ka returning. She lifted her head and yawned widely, flashing all of her teeth. She twisted her neck around to look at Ka with one half-lidded teal-green iris. She was still kind of irritated, and she was sure he felt it now, but she honestly didn't care. Hello, dear prince. she murmured. She was shifting to get to her paws and stretch when the pain stabbed at her lower abdomen again. She gasped in surprise. It lingered a bit this time, making her groan almost inaudibly. He had expected to find her waiting for him, tail swishing in irritation. So when he saw that she was just waking up, he was more than a little surprised. "Hello" He muttered back, trying to figure out why she was so irritated. Suddenly, he felt a pain stab at his gut, but it wasn't hit gut, it was Jia's. He clamped his mouth shut and looked at Jia sharply, looking her over at a distance for any cuts or injuries. He couldn't see any, which was odd. "Jia...are you alright?" He asked tentatively, wary of the mix of irritation and pain she was in. He didn't was her irritation to become anger aimed at him. He doubted she would, she was noramlly good at keeping her temper in check with him, but something told him that something wasn't right. Usually she was above and beyond patient whenever it came to him, but this time it was almost like she couldn't help herself. She glowered at him, her muzzle trembling in the verges of a snarl. I don't know! she snapped back, her teal-green eyes flashing dangerously. Her gold-lined-with-amethyst-scales bristled as she stood, too quickly, too fluidly. The pain stabbed again, much sharper, and this time lingering for a few minutes. This time she didn't attempt to hold back; she snarled thunderously from the pain, making a few nearby trees shake. She turned away from Ka and paced, her steps quick, short, angry. She didn't know what was wrong with her, and it was putting her on edge. Her wings furled and unfurled, as if she wanted to take flight, but to where she didn't know. And then another memory. It flashed so fast through her mind that she almost missed the key bit. Shruikan standing directly over her, and pain. She hid this from Ka as horror filled her heart. She was....was...She couldn't even think it to herself. Something was defiantly wrong with her and she either didn't know or didn't want to tell him. Both were equally likely, but he didn't say anything else to her. Instead he walked over to a fallen tree and sat down, or tried rather. It was then that another pain rocked her, and him, sending him over the back of the log holding his gut. He got up gingerly, not wanting to put himself in more than that what Jia was already feeling. He looked over to her and saw that she was pacing, fidgeting, and obviously angry. He didn't make a move toward her until he felt her despair at something. He didn't know what, but he decided to try again. He walked over to her and rested a hand on her neck. "Jia...you know you can talk to me." He said softly. He didn't want to push her, but he figured she knew what he meant by that. But they were not a gentle teal-green. Instead, they blazed a piercing emerald that shone of a strange wildness. I must leave. I..I don't want to hurt you. I'm not myself. she retreated from his hand, backing away from him, although it hurt her to do so. The pain again, nearly making her double over from its intensity. If Ka were to look closely while she was on her knees, he would notice that her sides bulged slightly. It was not very much, but noticeable if one looked. She stood then and looked from place to place, her eyes wild with the need to get away, to seclude herself from everything. She spread her wings part way, her gaze finding his. I..I love you, Ka. I...I can't.....Goodbye. she said. She severed their connection, making her stomach roil, and then beat her wings powerfully, crouching to take flight. He made him gasp for air at its suddenty. "J-Jia! Why! Jia wait!" He called after her. He hadn't noticed her wild emerald eyes, or the slight bulge in her belly. He was left confused, and hurt. Had he done something to upset her? Was she leaving her permanently? He didn't know. He sat down on the ground and looked up, watching her fly away. He continued to stare even after she was nothing but a pin prick of golden light in the distance. It was then that he decided that of she wouldn't tell him then he would follow her and find out for himself. Using his Changing Seal, he changed into his dragonic form, but with a slight twist. He changed to the color of his scales to a sky blue color to make it harder for Jia to see him at a distance, while her golden scales would make it easy to follow her. He also made himself smaller for the same reason. He took to the sky quickly, and picked her out among the clouds. "What are you hiding..." Gender: Girl Affiliation: Skulblakans Dragon: Faelia	Re: Birth of Memory Jia flew hard and fast, the wild part of her, the part of herself that not even the bond of a Dragon Rider could tame, taking over her thoughts and actions. She needed to find a cave, soon. Pain stabbed at her belly. Now would be better. She gazed all around her, searching for a shelter where she could deliver safely. She saw one, partway up the mountainside. Perfect. She angled her wings and flew right into the cave, going to the very back where it was darkest. She was panting now as she alighted and began to pace. She could feel her body shifting, changing, and it scared her. Pain stabbed abruptly, making her cry out involuntarily. She fell onto her side, gasping for breath and moaning. Ripples of motion flew over the sides of her belly and she strained. The wild part of her took a more firm control, instinct telling her what to do. Whenever pain came, she pushed and strained with every muscle in her body, though she wasn't entirely sure what good it was doing. After several very long minutes the pain stopped completely. She lay still on her side, panting, eyes closed. Slowly, grunts of discomfort that she was not making on her own coming from her throat, she twisted around and was fixed with a truly beautiful sight. An egg that was as dark as Shruikan's scales, but with veins of glittering gold spider-webbed across its surface. Tiredly she pulled the egg closer to her, holding it close to her belly for warmth. She wrapped her tail around it protectively. She was so tired now. She curled around her new treasure. She would go back and get Ka tomorrow, beg for his forgiveness, and then show him what she had 'found'. But right now she just wanted to rest. And she did. _________________ Eka fricai un Shur'tugal. When she swooped into a cave, he only barely caught her tail going into the entrance before she disappeared into the depths. He could feel her pain, but was keeping it locked away with a complex series of void seals so he could concentrate on not being caught. He flew up high into the sky over the cave entrance. He needed to get in without being noticed. He needed to Change into something that lived in caves: a bat. In a flash of light, that could be mistaken for the sun, he changed into a bat. Suddenly, he was blind. He screeched in fear, and then found that he knew where the mountain was. He screeched again and found the entrance. He flew into the cave, screeched a few times to find Jia, and then took a position right over her on a stalactite. Bat's eyes were typically a red-ish color, so he hoped she wouldn't notice how red his were. He looked down at her and saw that she was curled around something. Shifting on the rock a bit, he saw that it was an egg. He nearly fell off the rock and onto her, which probably would have ended in him being a quick snack. It all made sense now though. Her moodiness, he need to get away. But why, when, and by who? He had been with Jia for a long time, and even though they had been great distances apart, he had never felt her mate or sever their connection to mate. If she hadn't told him though, she must not want him to know, which he could respect. Instead of leaving, he figured he would stay here and watch over her, she looked rather tired, and would go back to their camp before she woke up the next morning. Even so she opened her blazing emerald eyes and scanned the cave, tightening her circle around the egg instinctively. A deep rumble vibrated in her chest, and this was no play growl or even a snarl in the midst of a fight. This was a mother dragon protecting her young. After a minute or two the hair raising rumble quieted and she relaxed, certain that there was no danger. She re-closed her eyes and went to sleep. When the sun rose it streamed into the cave and flashed across her scales and eyes. She blinked sleepily at the rude awakening, then uncurled her stiff body and stretched. She purred lovingly to the beautiful black-gold egg, nuzzling it gently with her snout, then stood on her paws and stretched once more. Her spine popped several times and she sighed a bit with relief. Her eyes were now once more a gentle teal-green instead of the blazing, wild emerald. She checked on her egg once more, then padded to the entrance. Her stomach snarled with hunger loudly, echoing in the cave, and she grimaced. She glanced worriedly at the egg, but another roar of hunger from her belly made her spread her wings. She had to hunt first before returning to Ka. She felt shame touch her, but she shook it away. She'd done what she could to protect the hatchling. In her heart she knew that Ka would never hurt a child without very good reason, and that definitely included one of her own, but motherly instinct to shield her offspring from any and all danger was overwhelming. She would not tell Ka, not yet. For now she hunted. She would return to the cave to check on the egg, then fetch her Rider. Hopefully he would understand. _________________ Eka fricai un Shur'tugal. He heard scraping and noise below him, and peaked open a wing to look. Down below, Jia was waking up too, doing her normal stretch and pop routine. He heard her stomach growl as he walked to the entrance and figured she was going to hunt. It wasn't likely that she would take the egg and would very likely come back for it. His better judgment told him to leave now and wait for her at the camp site, but curiosity took hold of him. An old human saying came to mind but he couldn't quite remember it, something about a curious cat dying or something. He shrugged it off and changed forms, dropping to the stone below, right in front of of the egg. He examined it closely. He saw golden veins on a black shell. It was beautiful. Obviously, the gold was Jia, but then who was the Black. He only knew of two male black Dragons: Shruikan and Xelin and he doubted either of them would mate with Jia. He sat down and looked at it, admiring it's beauty and wondering over it's origins, but he never touched it. He became so entranced by it's natural luster and sheen, as well as the perfect mix of black and gold, that he lost track of time, and forgot that Jia would be coming back. Now, with her belly comfortably full of fresh meat, she winged her way silently back to the cave. She landed at the entrance and froze. Someone was inside. Near her egg. A combination of fear and anger swept through her, so powerful that it would even touch Ka a little bit, despite them being unconnected. She snarled thunderously and flashed forward, darting around whoever it was and wrapping her body around her egg. She pulled her child away from the trespasser, warning rumbles vibrating her chest and shaking the walls of the cave. Her lips peeled back to bare her fangs as she whirled around to see who dared approach an egg of a dragon. Her eyes blazed emerald green again. Unfortunately, he wasn't fast enough to teleport before she saw him. He was fast enough, however, to Change his form. So, when she sped around him and grabbed the egg, she wouldn't see Ka. Instead, she would see a very thin old man, with white hair, frail arms, and grey-blue eyes, wearing a thin traveling cloak. When he spoke, he had an old persons rasp and a slight whistle from missing teeth. "Why I don't mean you no harm, Dragon. I was just travelin' here in the mountains and came across this here cave." He didn't move, and didn't seem afraid like most people would be. "I didn't touch it nar harm it in anyway. You can see for yarself, and eat me up if I'ma lyin'." He knew for a fact that the egg was undamaged, so he was safe in that aspect. What he wasn't safe in was if Jia decided to to a mental probe of him. Her blazing emerald irises were as hot as lava and cold as ice at the same time. She inspected the egg carefully for damage. Finding none she regarded the old man with a bit more warmth in her expression. My apologies. Du Fyrn Skulblaka has left all dragons wary of strangers around their young. she said, though she shifted uneasily still because of his presence. She was silent for a long time, watching the old man steadily with unblinking eyes, before she felt relaxed enough that he would do nothing to harm her or her child. Slowly she uncurled her body, revealing the black-gold egg to the old man's sight. She hummed, nuzzling the egg's exterior with her snout. She glanced at the man from the corner of her eye. You did not actually touch my egg. Eka elrun ono (I thank you). she murmured. She looked past the man out to the valley that her cave was in. I must be collecting someone and bringing them here soon. If he agreed to let her take him somewhere, and then she went back to the camp and saw he wasn't there...oh, he could only see bad things coming from that. He had to think fast. She wasn't mean on purpose, but even the thought of the old man in the cave with her egg, without her there as a barrier, was enough to make the scales on the back of her neck bristle. She started, her head shooting up, when the man said her name. She'd never introduced herself. Her eyes narrowed, now a gentle teal-green once more. She decided that he must have heard her name in whispers from the Varden, which was not too unlikely, and then shame hit her again as she thought about what she was going to do. Reluctantly she got to her paws and left the cave, making her way back to Ka slowly. She landed silently in the trees surrounding their campsite. She hesitated when she found him asleep. What if he was angry with her? What if he didn't forgive her for abandoning him? Tears came to her eyes at the thoughts. Tentatively, she touched his mind and let the link between them reopen. He figured the best bet would to be upset, then happy, then forgiveful. With that decided, he just had to wait for Jia to ge-. He heard a gentle rustle of leaves and grass behind him, and felt her reopen their link. When she called his name, he slowly rose into a sitting position and looked dead at her. He felt like crawling under a rock and dying for how he was making her feel; time to make her better. In a flash he was by her, hugging her around the neck. "Jia, you should know I can never be mad at you for more than 3 seconds." He said, releasing her and looking up into her tear filled eyes. "I'm not mad...and from how you were acting yesterday I understand that what ever the reason is for you leaving, it had to be good." He scratched her under her chin and smiled at her. "So stop the water works before you floor our camp." A choked purr rumbled in her throat as she curled her neck around Ka in her own version of an embrace. Relief washed through her when he said he wasn't mad, couldn't be mad at her for more than a few seconds. She smiled slightly at his attempt of a joke, a rumbling chuckle vibrating her chest. She crooned to him, then gently pulled back. She crouched down so he could mount the saddle on the juncture of her neck and shoulders. While I was away I found something I'd like to show you. Do you have everything? she said, to him, a bit excited. The grin widened as he asked if she would tell or leave it as a surprise, but she didn't respond. She flew back to the cave and alighted at the entrance, looking for the old man as she did. She was puzzled by his appearance, and then by his seeming disappearance, but pushed it aside for now. She waited for Ka to dismount, then padded forward. Instinct touched her again, though her eyes stayed the same teal-green. She pushed away the feeling. Ka would never hurt a hatchling. But what if he found out the egg was hers, and who the father was? She shivered at the thought. She knew Ka hated Shruikan with every fiber in his body. What if he hated the black menace so much he would even harm the child of the beast? She pushed those thoughts away. Ka would never hurt an innocent. But motherly instinct kept her from telling him that the egg was hers. She gently nosed the black-gold egg and looked up at her Rider. I found this. It's a dragon egg. Remember watching Zeke's little ones hatch? I have a feeling this one will hatch soon too. I wonder what the little one inside will look like, with the odd coloring on the exterior. she mused aloud, unable to keep from laying down around the egg protectively, but she kept her circle half open so Ka could come forward and touch the egg if he wished. _________________ Eka fricai un Shur'tugal. When she showed him the egg, he feinted surprise. "Oh wow! Jia it's beautiful!" He said, getting closer to it but not actually touching it. "The gold streaks kind of look like the same color as your scales." He commented, not really meaning anything by it. Then, a thought struck him that he should bring up. "Um Jia...if you found this, wouldn't that mean the mama dragon is around some where. I doubt a mama would leave her baby alone for too long. Maybe we should leave." She almost laughed as he backed away hastily from the egg as if it might bite him, but his words were quite true, for him of course. She blinked and hesitated. How would he react to the egg if she claimed it as hers? She just didn't know. She took the safe route. I thought of that, actually. I checked the scents of the cave before I brought you here. There hasn't been another dragon here for a long time. Several months. I think something happened to the parents that kept them from returning. she said sadly, looking down at the black-gold egg. She blinked again, swearing she could have just seen it twitch. It twitched again, and her eyes widened. Ka, it's hatching! she said, elation blossoming within her before she could fully stop it. He stepped closer to the egg to look at it again, just as it began cracking. This time he didn't fake his surprise, nor his flinch backwards. Even though he had seen this once before, it was still only once and then he had been a fair distance away since other dragons had been there. Now though, he was practically right on top of it while it was hatching. It was both a wonderful, and slightly scary experience for him. Wonderful in the sense that he was watching life come into the world, scary in the Jia would likely be extremely protective of the new born. For a moment, an image of her leaving him to take care of the hatchling crossed his mind, but it was gone faster than it came. "Where did that come from?" The hatchling inside was very impatient. With a loud squeak, the hatchling strained at the shells to the egg. The egg rocked, then literally exploded into pieces. Jia smiled down in delight at the little black-gold hatchling, marveling at her color. The dragonet was mostly black with each scale lined in gold, just like her gold scales were lined in amethyst. She purred and lowered her head to the little one, instinctively licking off the membrane that had encased the little one. She smelled a distinctive female scent. It is a female. she murmured to Ka, her teal-green eyes warm. The black-gold dragonet chirped, blinking open her eyelids to reveal pale-lavender-flecked-with-light-grey irises. The hatchling sniffed at the ground, then made its way over to Ka. Jia tensed but forced herself to stay where she was. Ka would not hurt the little one. Sarai. Is that your name, little darling? she purred lovingly. The hatchling chirped excitedly and nodded her head as if she understood. Jia smiled. Then Sarai it is. she murmured. - - - - - - - - - - Sarai wobbled a bit unsteadily toward a strange twoleg. She knew that the four-legged creature with wings was her mother. She didn't know how, she just did. But she ignored her mother and padded straight to Ka, sniffing at his foot curiously before looking up into his ruby eyes. Partly because he wasn't sure if she saw him as food, and partly because he could feel Jia's motherly instincts over their link. She was suppressing them well, but if he moved too quick it may set her off. When Sarai rubbed her head against his knee and chirped, it was all he could do to keep from saying 'awwwww'. His heart all but melted at the sight of her. Leaning down slowly, he scratched the top of her head gently. As soon as he touched her, he felt something blossom in his chest. He couldn't describe it exactly, but it was close to a fatherly instinct to protect Sarai. He may not have been her father by blood (or race) but he was the closest thing she had right now. He wasn't sure if Jia could feel it or not, but he knew right then that he would also fight to protect the small dragoness before him. He looked up from Sarai and smiled at Jia. "She cute.." She couldn't help the purr that rolled from her chest as Ka scratched Sarai's head and said she was cute. Yes, her daughter was very cute, and she knew it. She felt something off on Ka's end of the connection. A warm and fuzzy feeling. She looked at Ka, tilting her head questioningly at this sensation. It was similar to what she felt for Sarai, but on a more paternal side. She growled softly but it was not in an overly threatening way. Jia repositioned so she was curled around Ka, since Sarai was more than happy as a peach where she was resting in Ka's arms. Of what he couldn't tell you, but he didn't come out of his slight daze until he heard Jia shift to encircle him and he noticed Sarai was asleep. He stopped scratching and looked up at Jia. "So do we keep her or what?" Since that seemed like something he would worry about if he hadn't know Jia was the mother, it only seemed right to ask. Zeke and Savania already have their claws full with four newborn hatchlings. I'd say my father but he's all the way in Du Weldenvarden. There aren't a lot of other options. she looked down at the hatchling and gently stroked Sarai's spine with the tip of her snout. She will be safe here with us for now. she said. "You're right...we don;t really have a choice." He said, sighing a bit. He looked up at Jia, slightly startled by her last comment. He let it go though. He figured she would be protective of Sarai for a long time to come, and it would just take getting used to. And even though he was still curious as to who the father was, and he figured Jia knew, the fact that she wasn't telling him that the dragon was her's told him that she would rather him not know anything for now, and would probably keep him in the dark for a while. It hurt a bit, knowing that she didn't trust him, but he accepted it and moved on.
