Talem
Name: Talem
Age: 19
Gender: Female
Skills: Tracking - From a three legged squirrel to a rogue human, Talem has developed an uncanny ability in tracking. By roughly gazing at a scene for twenty seconds, she can often determine the direction of the most recent creature to pass through the area. Thirty seconds if the creature took to the skies. If Talem takes the time to examine an area further, she can enhance her prediction, determine the creature, and even visualize the scene when they were present in the area.
Accuracy - When she uses bow, she is not afraid to fire towards anything within eye shot. Talem hasn’t missed a shot within thirty yards in over five years, and her accuracy is still quite precise when firing further, as long as she has a good position, good weather, and the target isn’t on high alert or extremely small. Most of the time her accuracy is used for throwing her bola. Her bow is only for hunting game and killing some types of enemies.
Nature Artes - Being part human has greatly weakened her faerie side, but she is still able to use the magic of her family line. In a time of urgency, Talem may call upon nature to aid her, like have tree roots rise or alter the breeze slightly. However, if whatever situation threatening her would also harm nature, Talem will refuse to ask for help, as is the promise of the faeries to the land. Unfortunately, with nature annoyed with mankind, it enjoys being stubborn with her because of her mix blood. The most she can rely on is using the water to form a shield unless the rest of nature feels like helping.
Race: Half Human, half faerie
Hair: Deep, marine blue
Eyes: Sharp, sapphire blue
Home Village: Realm of Avalon
Parents: Sir Varo Arquaine, father; Edelweiss of the River Forest, mother. Both deceased
Siblings: None
Character Personality: Anyone who meets Talem tend to give a different opinion about her each time they cross paths with the girl. Especially after the death of her parents. Before her entire life was flipped upside down, she was adventurous, and curious with a smile always stretched across her face. Now... Talem is a serious young woman who will not take time to enjoy what life has to offer. If anyone attempts to befriend her, she’ll be nice enough to speak the odd word, but Talem feels better by putting up walls between herself and others. It prevents any further tragedy in her life. On top of her seriousness, Talem can be easily angered, especially towards those who harm nature. If she catches anyone harming the one thing she holds dear in her life, Talem is not afraid to lash out, or attack. The only thing that will make her more furious is the presence of a dragon. She hates the beasts with every fibre of her body and spends most of her time trying to slay the monsters until they are all eliminated, or until she finds the one that has been evading her for nearly five years. In spite of her wrathful nature, Talem is one of the most dependable people if someone is on her good side. She was raised to know the importance of honour and promises, so if Talem gives her word, she will keep it even through death. If someone ever demands further evidence to her oath, Talem will take great offense, and become mad with the person. Sometimes, if it does not interfere with her promise, Talem will leave them, and not try to contact them ever again. However, even if offended and the person does not believe her, she will still keep her word.
Character History: Talem was born within a hidden realm that was said to only be accessed when lured by a faerie, making it one of the safest places to exist. Her father had been lured into the realm by her mother, but where most men would return after a night or two, he chose to stay so he could see his child grow. Talem’s life was pretty easy going while growing up. Half faeries were not uncommon since males were rare, but Talem was one of the half children who did not inherit as much of their faerie nature as their human. Others her age would happily spend their days flying through the sky with their faerie wings while Talem was permanently trapped on the ground. However, in return, she was stronger than most and decided to start learning more of the human ways. Talem’s father taught her to hunt, to fight, and how to make sure to give thanks for whatever was taken. Her favourite lessons, though, were of the outside world. Every day, her father would tell stories of his own world, of the hardships foreign to Avalon, and Talem took it all in. It all sounded like a fantasy.
When Talem was fifteen, a terrible disaster fell upon Avalon. A beast as dark as the shadows of night with eyes as red as fresh blood came to the village, and began destroying everything its path. No one native to the land knew what the creature was, but her father had told her tales of them long ago, and how they roamed the skies. This one made them feel like nothing, but her father assured her it was a dragon. In the chaos, she and her parents fought alongside friends and neighbours to try and defend their home, but they were no match. Talem’s parents were killed without mercy, along with many others, and her home was destroyed. Out of anger, Talem took her mother’s bow and fired an arrow straight into the dragon’s throat, and the beast immediately went berserk. During its wrath, one of its sets of claws slashed her arm, but her arrow had managed to drive the beast away.
No one knows how the dragon got into Avalon, but after the attack, Talem packed up the only belongings she needed, and left to hunt the dragon down. She knew it was alive, somewhere, and she wanted it to pay for what it had done. Even if she had to spend her entire life hunting it.
Over the next few years, up to the present day, Talem has ventured into the realm of humans to pursue the dragon. Along the way, she has slain many other winged monsters, to the point she is now a well known dragon hunter, but her sole target has always been one step ahead of her. Now, Talem has come to a land people have said is full of dragons. She has a feeling the one she has been chasing is hiding there, but it will take a great search, and many hunts until she can avenge her family and home.
Weapons: Bola - A weapon that consists of three hard orbs connected by a strong cord. The cord is made of a braid of a thin fibre reinforced by the elements to prevent it breaking easily. With this weapon, Talem can throw it at her enemies and entangle them. It is best for larger creature’s throats or the limbs of smaller creatures to cause tripping, the breaking of bones, or even choking.
Dual Sai - Dagger-like weapons with two sharp prongs that curve outward from their hilts. These are Talem’s favoured weapons when it comes to combat. They allow her easy movement, are light weight, and do a good job at stopping blades when the curve catches them. Though they are her favourite, Talem uses them sparingly because it requires extremely close combat.
Bow and Arrows - Made from the core of an elder tree from her homeland, it is coated in every faerie blessing known to the River Forest and has a series of runes running down the wood. Talem uses a similar cord to that of her bola for the string, but it is only a single fibre, rather than a braid. It belonged to her mother. For arrows, she will use what ever is at hand, but her best arrows are made from trees that have given their blessings to the wood with fine down to anchor the arrow.
Likes: Nature, the stars, traveling
Dislikes: Dragons, fire, dark magic
Weakness / Fear: Fire, destroyed land, being away from nature
Animal Companions: None
Character's Physical Description: Talem stands at 5’5” with medium-length, choppy hair. Being part faerie, she is quite scrawny and slender for someone her age, but all of her muscles are merely condensed within her body. It is a faerie defense mechanism to trick her opponents. On her right forearm, there are three large scars from her encounter with the black dragon. However, her sleeves do a good job of concealing them. Her clothes are a mixture of blue, black and white. She wears long, black leggings that go just past her knees with black short shorts. Over top is a blue skirt that is open at the front. For the rest of her clothes, she wears a dark blue, sleeveless top, and a pair of white sleeves that go halfway up her upper arm. Her weapons are either stashed on her back or on her waste with her spare supply of cord.
Dreams for the Future: To slay the dragon as dark as the shadows of night with eyes as red as fresh blood.
Reason for Dreams: The dragon destroyed her village and slaughtered her family. Talem was lucky to only get injured, but ever since she has wanted that monster destroyed. Even if it means taking the rest of his kind down, along the way.
Alignment/side: Mostly with herself, but she is always willing to side with other dragon hunters.
