Anyone else know what Machinima is? Machine Cinema is basically any production made using a game engine, whether on a computer or console. Productions can include gameplay montages and movies--but movies are generally what you think of when you think of machinima.

Common and popular examples of Machinima include Red vs Blue, Master Chief s.u.c.k.s. at Halo, Arby 'n' the Chief, Deus Ex Machina, Pre-game Lobby, Spriggs, Retaliation, and more. Machinima, like live cinematic productions, can be both comedy or drama, or really anything that your imagination can produce. The game engines do limit things somewhat, though.

Halo 3 is the only console game that you can easily make machinima with, due to the fact that it has a Theater mode. Games for computer frequently allow you to detach the camera from the character, a feature consoles lack.

Games like Half-life 2 are one example of an excellent engine for Machinima, like "Civil Protection" and "Freeman's Mind".

I have to warn you, all but Gray Team contain language, but I believe that Gray Team contains little or no language in the actual episodes. Others may contain other content (crude jokes, references, etc), and frequently have warnings of that. I highly recommend Deus Ex, Retaliation, Gray Team, and Reconstruction (only if you've seen Red vs Blue: The Blood Gulch Chronicles, RvB: Out of Mind, and RvB: Recovery One, they link, in that order. OOM and Recovery One are mini-series) for dramas, and Spriggs and Pregame Lobby for comedy.

Blood Gulch Chronicles is the longest Machinima I know, with 100 episodes and around 4-500 minutes total, which took 4 years and Halo: CE and Halo 2 to produce. Deus Ex Machina is also very long, with about 9 episodes, many of which are about 20 minutes each.

And yep, I've seen it. Definitely well produced, he's good at what he does.

My favorite group though, simply has to be Roosterteeth. Red vs Blue is a classic, and Reconstruction was brilliantly filmed and acted. Classically RvB, with a great story.

Another great series, only Three episodes at the moment, is Descendant, by ClanHH. Recommend looking it up, its very well filmed. Interesting story, too.

Gray Team ended prematurely, to my dismay.

Pregame Lobby is up to 8 episodes.

Spriggs to 12 and a few shorts.
