I'VE READ SO MANY TIMES THAT ORIK OR SOLEMBUM OR MAUD OR SOME URGAL WILL BE THE NEXT RIDER. AND IT MAKES ME VERY ANGRY. No offense, BUT DO YOU PEOPLE READ THE BOOKS AT ALL!!!! DWARVES WERN'T PART OF THE SACRED OATH PACT DEAL HAND SHAKE BONDING THINGA-MABOB-DODAD, SO THEY CANT BE RIDERS. besides that is the relativly small fact that THEY HATE DRAGONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THAT IS IMPORTANT PEOPLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! SO NO ONE ELSE EVER SAY IT AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They believe that the spirit exists beyond death and if they become a rider, their beliefs might blind them because they won't want to believe what their magic is telling them. Since they never entered the pack, it is logical to assume the can never be one!(Eldest, end of page 438-9) I have not a clue where did the idea of Orik becoming a rider stems from; just because enjoyed the flight back to the Varden does not automatically qualifies him to be one. In regards to "stone," "change," and dwarves. I can understand your line of thought. What held me down from that thought is the fact that there are, how many dwarven clans? And how many of those clans, by the end of Eldest, still resented dragons? For the different ones in Tarnag showed no love for neither Eragon as a Rider, much less for Saphira as a dragon. It's not going to happen, the treaty that was made between the dragons and elves was said that only elves could be rider then they included humans, no dwarves. Dwarves will never be rider, they hate riding anyway. Why would something be allowed to do something if they hate it? I agree though that Orik will not be a candidate for the last egg to be a dragon rider. Like everyone has repeated and said, dwarves were not part of the Blood-Oath ceremony. Yes they can be added, but why haven't they? If Hrothgar and many of the dwarves kings before him had wanted to be part of the oath, why didn't they join it earlier? Number one reason is they hate dragons. If you don't remember, dragons hunted dwarves... Centuries of hate built up and I really doubt the dwarves would want to become "one" with a dragon. Plus, I would think the the shape and size of a dwarf would make it really awkward for him/her to ride a dragon and fight at the same time. Dwarves are stone people, they like stone, they like being underground. They don't like being in the air all the time. (You can say the dragon can go underground too but then what's the use of the dragon?) So all in all, it just does to say, Orik is not going to be a dragonrider. And yes, all this was probably already posted, though I'm too lazy to look back. And besides, I'm jsut helping with getting this topic back on track.. lol.
