Inheritance Cycle - Now Four Books!
It was announced today that the Inheritance Trilogy is a Trilogy no more - a forth, full-length novel has been added to the series, expanding upon Eragon and Saphira's adventures.
"I plotted out the Inheritance series as a trilogy nine years ago, when I was fifteen. At that time, I never imagined I’d write all three books, much less that they would be published" said Paolini. "When I finally delved into Book Three, it soon became obvious that the remainder of the story was far too big to fit in one volume. Having spent so long thinking about the series as a trilogy, it was difficult for me to realize that, in order to be true to my characters and to address all of the plot points and unanswered questions Eragon and Eldest raised, I needed to split the end of the series into two books."
In addition to the announcement of a fourth book in the series, the release date has been announced for the third book, which still remains un-named: September 23, 2008.
To add to that, Paolini stated himself that at the end of Book III, a major character will die.

Sauron, shouldn't this be in the "Eragon News" Section? The Local News and Announcements is stuff to do with Saphira forums and the mothersite.

IMNC we call it the 'Inheritance Cycle' because that's what CP is now calling it

I decided that because its probably the most important announcement about Inheritance to date exclusing the release of Eldest, and because this site has its foundations in Inheritance, I decided that it should be put in this forum. I think more people will see it that way since its in the most important forum on the board.

Re: Inheritance Cycle - Now Four Books!
The Eragon News is just as important. It's just that there isn't that much news.

Local News & Announcement News and announcements that have to do with the Forums, mothersite and any other sites in the EragonPlus Network.
Eragon News News to do with Christopher Paolini and the Inheritence Trilogy
Seriosuly, why not just put it in the proper section? I'm sure people are still going to read it but whatever, it's your post.

I need to agree with Firetongue on this one!!! And it's is loud in clear in the post in which she copied and pasted the description of both topics. So it should be posted appropriately.

IMNC, Tell you about... WHAT????
Come on, IMNC!!! I was being nice!!!!! How was I not being so?????
Anyway, The books are being called "cycles" so who knows" Maybe he intends to have the story come a full circle.
I'll just keep calling it a series, it's less opened for confusion...

If that happened (the last book ending at the begining of the first book thing) then the people who have been saying it might just be a dream could be right. That would be too weird and disapointing though.

Re: Inheritance Cycle - Now Four Books!
I may be wrong, but I think you are all taking TOO literal. By come in full circles I had in mind the we would see Eragon come from a happy, hard working farm boy to this powerful, yet down to earth Rider. The fact that in the 2 books Eragon repeats over and over that he will return to Carvahall, maybe that is what he may do before leaving Alagaesia forever. Rebuild the town where it all started.
We do need to keep in mind he has been through and matured a lot!
( With two books in the making, now I can really hope Ayra dies and Eragon finds himself a nice young girl who will love him to death and he her.)

Re: Inheritance Cycle - Now Four Books!
Annie, you are a terrible person. lol. jk. But seriously, who else could the woman in the dream be??? She's not going to die!!! Wait a sec...if the pattern of 1 new rider per book continues, which is questionable, then that means there may be 2 new riders...but that's kinda unlikely.

Re: Inheritance Cycle - Now Four Books!
I think you are all concentrating too much on the 'cycle' part instead of the 'Inheritance' part. I think he just called it cycle because it sounded better than quadrilogy or tetralogy or whatever you want to call it. Anyway the important part is the Inheritance and the questions we should be asking should be more like; who shall receive what as Inheritance?

Re: Inheritance Cycle - Now Four Books!
We already know that. Eragon will receive his inheritence from Brom, his true father, as Murtagh received his. He will get Brom's sword, probably kill Murtagh as Brom did, maybe not, and he will receive Brom's mission: to bring the downfall of Galbatorix. He already has the dragon of the same name and color.

Re: Inheritance Cycle - Now Four Books!
Oh, I hope Murtagh does die. But IMNC, do you really think he will be the one to kill Murtagh? His half-brother? Would he be able to live with the knowledge of something as terrible as this? I do believe, if given the chance, Murtagh will kill him. After all they're on the opposite sides of the war, and Murtagh is too tied to life to sacrifice himself. But I don't think Eragon would be so selfish, his character traits are completely opposite to those of his half-brother. I think there is a strong possibility of CP dragging on this emotional conflict throughout books III and IV.

yeah, it's going to be hard, but it was probably hard for Brom to kill Morzan. He IDOLIZED HIM.

AnnieBee wrote: But there was no blood relationship between Brom and Morzan. BIG difference!!! is it such a big differnce? wouldn't eragon have had just as hard of a time killing Murtagh just as a friend, rather than a half-brother? anyways, eragon considers Garrow his father, and Roran his brother. and sort of brom his father too, (which may turn out to be more literal than it is now). and while brom HAD idolized morzan, he ended up hating him later on, so i doubt it was as hard as you think. personally, i think nasuada is more likely to die than arya, or even murtagh, but that's just me.

Well now we know that SF will still be around for at least 4+ years, the time that it will take CP to write the fourth book and for fox to do all these movies if they are actually doing them.

Re: Inheritance Cycle - Now Four Books!
Definitely Arya will die...
And also, I think CP is probably already on Book IV considering he made that announcement. My bet is that after book III is released a year after that Book IV will be. At least I hope it will be that way - so CP doesn't keep dragging it out.
The good side of having two more books is that hopefully it will be more streamlined and it won't be cluttered with unhelpful bits and pieces as such as there were in Eldest.

Re: Inheritance Cycle - Now Four Books!
I think the best part about having four books is that when the third releases the RP's on this site will have a more developed storyline to play along with. It also keeps us all expanding.

nah dude. there is a gray area where we don't know when will happen: in 3 or 4. so I say we should keep it as is until after 3 comes out.
Sauron...could you make me hate you any more? Fraternizing with the enemy, then being partially converted by the TRUE enemy, and now THIS!!!

Re: Inheritance Cycle - Now Four Books!
Good Job Firetongue
anyways. no, rpm, probably no book four section till 3 comes out, it would be hard to have anything worthwhile in it, and would just accumulate a lot of useless topics.
the main reason i say he did a fourth is for money. spreading it out will double sales he would have gotten for only 3, and we could have read a huge book

Lol Fred you're not like Strider at ALL... He's mysterious, you're arrogant :P
PS: No I don't think Arya will die. Actually, only if Eragon actually gets her to love him...
PPS: Anyone here an Eragon/Saphira shipper? No? Thank god... Because someone once did that on another Eragon forum I'm on... It was disgusting. /shudders

Re: Inheritance Cycle - Now Four Books!
Um.. about the cycle thing.
Maybe he called it a cycle because he meant for the beginning of Eragon (The dream) to be the ending of Bk 4?
Not sure if anyone has posted this yet but... I guess i'll share my thoughts. (And I really hope it ends this way!)

Re: Inheritance Cycle - Now Four Books!
Whoa!!!!! Take it easy. The third will not be published until mid September next year and we have no clue what's going on with the 4th one.
I keep wondering, where will CP end this third installment? With what event? Oh and I DO know he said it will end with the death of a major character!!!
*crosses fingers and chants: *Ayra, Ayra, Ayra, Ayra,Ayra!!!!!!!!*

You evil, EVIL people!! Arya won't die! Eragon still has his love, not to mention fate on his side. If anyone it will be either Elva, Murtagh, or Oromis & Glaedr.

It's not going to happen. It's either going to be Oromis, Murtagh, Nasuada, Roran...

Hey Gorgeous!!!!!*Gives Valkie a HUGE bear hug*
I think the whole lot of them are a bunch of conceited, arrogant, big-headed bitter jerks. I liked Oromis a bit though! He was kind of the exception to the rule, but all of the rest think themselves so high and mighty!!!
I dislike people who are full of themselves, even in fiction! *Hump*

oximoron!!! (sorry, love that word) lofty title, King of Crazyness. a good one too. might be well deserved. Maybe Debator Lord. especially about brom being eragons father.

@ Siegemaster: no. that is only one of many...no one has gone against Arya being the next rider in a while, so I can see why you said my most avid debate is for Brom to be Eragon's father.

You wanna see crazy, well you'll have to wait till Sabrina gets here. (She stills has the camera) We played Charades, and I swear, craziness is a gene that runs strong in my family.
Anyway, IMNC what Queenie are you talking about. And Rhunon, that woman is grumpy, bitter and high judgmental! Don't like her either.

Anyway, I feel a bit nervous about the series being extended to four books. Can't think what new development may have occurred to CP. Maybe a new love for Eragon???

Re: Inheritance Cycle - Now Four Books!
I love Elrond to, I'm his #1 fanboy. and all the elves of middle-earth of course. Annie, I agree with thee. I am wondering and greatly curious to what changes CP has decided to make for the upcoming two books. I think Eragon's love with either be Nasuada or Katrina. There's a certain sense of mystery surrounding her. by the way, I have no doubts now that the main character that will die at end of Book 3 is Arya. All the evidence points to her, because its the only fit way to end Eragon's mooning over her. By the way, just as a thought, who else thinks that Roran is sorta like Sam Gamgee from LOTR?

by the way, I have no doubts now that the main character that will die at end of Book 3 is Arya. All the evidence points to her, because its the only fit way to end Eragon's mooning over her. No. And no. Where did Katrina come from? HELL no. that's not evidence, and do NOT insinuate that there is evidence when there is none. OR ELSE. Who says that CP WANTS Eragon to stop "mooning" over Arya? And furthermore, the only way for Katrina to come into the picture would be if Roran died as well. That makes 2 main characters, not one.

Re: Inheritance Cycle - Now Four Books!
I really give a hoot if Ayra dies; in fact I hope she does. The only elf I would spare is Oromis and his sentenced to death already, so, as you guys say: whatever *crosses fingers while chants*CP, kill her, CP, kill her, CP, kill her, CP, kill her!!!!!!!!!

Re: Inheritance Cycle - Now Four Books!
You very well know that I KNOW she won't die and she'll most likely be the 3rd Rider AND end up with Eragon. But that doesn't mean I cannot keep wishing and dreaming the Ice-Queen melts like the witch from the Wizard of Oz!!!

If that happens, I will burn that book. I WILL! She would be the worst rider EVER and Eragon needs someone else not a stuck up snooty OLD elf.

Would you kindly not spam, dearest friend of friends????
No, I'm not in a guessing mood. I just like exploring the possibility of Eragon getting a girl appropriate to his age, experience and interests, instead of an over-aged, used and arrogant woman.

Re: Inheritance Cycle - Now Four Books!
Fair enough; when I say Ayra is used, I literally mean she is used. She is old even if she does not age like human woman.
We are led to believe she had a lover, Faolin. Therefore it is safe to assume she had a serious relationship, and that relationship would also had been a physical one. We are also told that elves take mates (don't marry) then my assumption is correct. So we do not know how many other mates Ayra may have taken up in 100 yrs. We is safe to conclude is that Eragon is a human; a human boy of what 16-17 yrs. If you look back to Eragon's development, the closest physical relationship HE had was with Trianna and thwarted by Saphira. So he is inexperienced in matters of relationships; both physical and emotional. He will never be in equal footing to Ayra. And who is to know (if she would decide to be with him) she would not compare notes between Eragon and Faolin.
No, it's not fair at all for Eragon. Not at all!
(And I have tried to explain this in a tasteful way so no one comes and jumps on me.)
