Harry Potter
I know there are many Harry Potter fans out there who have started many topics about Harry Potter, but they are only about a specific book or movie. This topic is about Harry Potter, books and movies, as a WHOLE. I hope a mod doesn't lock this topic *crosses fingers.*

Re: Harry Potter
I mean, we can COMPARE the movies to the books, right? No harm done in that!
To get a discussion going, let's talk about the first book. What would you rate it? On a scale of 1 to ten, I'd give it a 9.

Re: Harry Potter
the first book i would say an 8 i think it would have to kind of have a higher rating cuz u are just being introduced to harry adn everyone else!! so it kind of starts to give u a lil bit of back ground on everyone!! ???

Re: Harry Potter
That's true. I'd give it an 8/10 as well. I don't really like it as much as I used to. I mean, after all the more recent books, it seems kind of... lame. Well, it was the first book in the HP series, so.....

Re: Harry Potter
Yeah, I don't know why it just seemed more interesting to me than most of the others. I suppose the plot was more structured.

Re: Harry Potter
Wow, that's a lot... I think I've read most of them about twice, I don't really keep track. I'm not a big fan of re-reading books a lot of times, I prefer to find new stuff to read.
Also, how come it's Philosopher's stone here (and everywhere else it was published), and Sorcerer's stone in America? I was always confused by that...

Re: Harry Potter
LOL, Prisoner of Azkaban has been my all time favorite. The reason for this may be the fact that Harry has finally met someone who was connected, I mean really connected with his parents.
I think the dreamer in me could see him living with Sirius and leaving the Dursley's for once and for all. When Wormtail escaped I was so heartbroken. I did have hopes though until Order of the Phoenix.
I hated PoA, the movie. They cut out so many important things from it; like the movie never shows you how Harry came to have the map. The conversation between Lupin and Harry about Lilly was so out of context. The werewolf transformation was so ghetto!
I have all the movies, because I do, but I rarely go back to them. I rather listen to the audio books.
To Firetongue:
The US publishers decided to change Philosopher for Sorcerer because they thought the original title would not attract the attention of boy readers. They believed they would get the wrong idea due to the general definition of "philosopher" here in America.

Re: Harry Potter
oh yea. actually, when JKR originally released it in England it was PS but then she changed it to SS in the US becuase she said that more people in the U.S.are familiar with the term "Sorcerer" than they are with the term "Philosopher".
EDIT: darnit, AnnieBee posted b4 me!
actually, in the movie, they did show how he got the map. unless ur talking about how Lupin confiscated it and he never gave it back in the movie...

Re: Harry Potter
I thought it showed Fred and George giving it to him. I haven't seen the movie in awhile, but I'm pretty sure they showd it.

I haven;t seen the entire movie for a long time now, but I think at the end, when Lupin was packing up all of his stuff to leave, he gave it back. Unless I'm getting mixed up with the book...

Re: Harry Potter
I can honestly say I do NOT like movies 3 & 4.
I feel movies 1 & 2 were a lot closer to the books than any of the other 3 movies.
I am aware a movie cannot go word for word to the book, but at least it should be as close to it as possible.

Re: Harry Potter
I suppose because the first two books were shorter, they didn't have to cut so much out. I do like the idea of doing the Deathly Hallows film in two parts though

Re: Harry Potter
Yeah, the first two movies are definitely the best. I didn't like the third one because they cut so much out of it, but it could have been worse.
I wonder how they are going to break the film into two parts, or where in the story.

Re: Harry Potter
Hmm, I dunno.
I liked the fourth movie cause it was really funny, but they did cut out a lot of the main parts.

Re: Harry Potter
Hmmm, yeah...
This is probably the English version of The Harry potter and the Deathly Hallows book, it kinda like it better than the American version.
