 IC: Na'ir nodded solemnly at the dragoness's words. That did tend to make things harder for the one searching. She wondered if they all stayed mostly together as they moved, or were scattered. She didn't ask, though. This didn't seem like the appropriate time for one of her characteristic streams of questions. Before she could try to help healing with her own magic, a messenger arrived, telling them to see King Huron. Natagath quickly spoke up, saying that they should hurry on. The blue nodded quickly. I wonder what he could want to see us for, she said quietly, mostly to herself. The message was enough to convey thanks. Could he want their description of what happened? Probably, but why so soon? Na'ir laughed quietly, musing that questioning herself wouldn't really help. She followed after the others, glancing around as they moved and taking in the damage. It was odd to her that humans were capable of such a multitude of both creative and destructive tendencies. "You wanted to see us, your Majesty?" Natagath asked. "Yes." replied the King Huron. "First I would like to thank you all for defending my people. You undoubtedly saved many lives." Turning to Violeta, he said Violeta, you have already done so much for the people of Danthuania but I must ask for your help once more. I would be glad to help any way I can. Violeta replied. "We discovered that the Vanquishers that attacked the festival came down the river using boats. That means they have a hideout somewhere up the river. If you could find it and help us to eliminate it, we would be most grateful. I would be glad to help, your Highness. "As a Dragon Rider, it is my duty to serve the people. I will assist in any way I can" Natagath pledged with a bow. "Good." said the king. "I will send two boats carrying soldiers to follow you up the river. Contact them once you find the Vanquishers' hideout and we can put an end to this once and for all." "We will head out first thing in the morning then." Natagath said. Re: Into the Jungle. Na'ir followed after Violeta and Natagath, standing a little behind and to the side of them as the King addressed them. Her scales began prickling in excitement as King Huron described what he wanted them to do. First exploring a new land, and now the opportunity to help its people? She had to take up that chance! I will go as well, to help. I hope none of you mind that; it would be very impolite of the ambassador of the wild dragons of Alagaesia to refuse to aid you when possible, she remarked with a wide smile, green eyes sparkling brightly. She thought that the King might have been planning on her accompanying the dragon and rider, but it was always better to make sure, and to speak her position formally. She was finding it difficult to restrain her eagerness, though. This seemed like something her mother would do: venturing into unknown lands and helping the local citizens in times of need. Well, these people weren't really in need of her help, but it was a close enough comparison to make her happy. These Vanquishers would learn to regret their ways.

Re: Into the Jungle. Early the next morning, everyone set out up the river on their mission. Natagath rode in the saddle, watching the sun rise to the east as Violeta followed the river, looking for any sign of the Vanquisher hideout.
"I suppose once we deal with the Vanquishers we can continue on our journey." Natagath said to everyone. Violeta hummed in response, gliding above the bank of the river. Our purpose was not to come here and fight wars. That is what we came here to escape from. I shall be glad when this mess is over. The dragoness scanned the dense jungle along the riverbank. Nothing yet. They must be around here somewhere though. _________________ And then Saphira ate Edward, Bella, and Jacob. The end! -How Twilight should have ended... Re: Into the Jungle. Na'ir awoke the next morning excitedly. Her mission had become much more interesting. She didn't really like fighting, but she wanted to help these people. As Natagath and Violeta spoke of their task, she listened quietly. She did want to get back to exploring, but helping the people of Danthuania by fighting evil (in this case in the form of the Vanquishers) was not something she'd pass up. She stared down at the flowing waters below occasionally, enjoying how it sparkled. If she looked hard enough, she could see her reflection. The blue zig-zagged over the river as she flew, sweeping both banks with her special vision. She couldn't see all forms of light like her mother, but she could see through solid things to locate the unseen or hidden. Trees were no exception.

Re: Into the Jungle. Natagath scanned the lush jungle terrain below, mostly just enjoying the scenery and spending time with his dragon again. This was the kind of thing they did back home before the war. Violeta turned her head and gave her rider a toothy dragon grin. Natagash smiled back and scratched her neck gently.
"I think I could just stay down here forever, Vi. I really don't care if we ever go back to Alagaesia. There's nothing there now but suffering and death." If Galbatorix defeats the Varden, what is to stop him from invading this land next? Violeta already knew the answer though. Galbatorix would still have to deal with the likes of Crimson and any number of other entities in his own land before invading foreign soil. That could take many years, during which time she and Natagath could be raising a new generation of Dragon Riders in Danthuania, one that would include more of her kind. Re: Into the Jungle. Na'ir continued her flight, feeling rather cheerful despite the fact they were about to get into a fight. When Violeta asked her if she had spotted anything, she shook her head. No humans. But there's almost too little down there. Something is scaring away a lot of the large animals, and that's probably a sign we're going in the right direction. Also, I see a few trails that look too neat to be normal wildlife trails, she replied, glancing back down when she finished to examine the trails. Some of the brush on either side was cut, and also the trails weren't winding enough. They seemed oft-used, and the blue felt sure they were getting close. Abruptly, she spotted the movement of something larger up ahead, but it was too far to see what (as more stuff, in this case foliage, got in her way, the harder it was to see through things). I think something's up ahead. It might be one of the Vanquishers, she relayed, gesturing toward where she had seen the brief motion.

Violeta said, acknowledging Na'ir's remark, I know one way to find out. Natagath, I'm going to go down and investigate. Place a ward over me in case they ambush us. Violeta dived toward the jungle below, gliding just above the dense foliage. She could see people moving about and it became immediately clear that these were indeed the people they were after. A swarm of arrows shot up at the dragoness as she glided over the jungle. Natagath quickly placed a ward over Violeta and himself to protect them from the arrows. The two boatloads of soldiers following the dragons began to make their way toward shore when it became clear that the Vanquishers had been found. Natagath sent a blast of air down toward the jungle, blowing the leaves off a few trees and revealing the vanquisher's camp. "There they are! Vi, Na'ir, Let's finish this for good!" The arrows deflected off the wards Natagath had used and as Violeta dived, Natagath launched began shooting at the enemies with his crossbow while Violeta attacked with her lightning. _________________ And then Saphira ate Edward, Bella, and Jacob. IC: Na'ir watched as Violeta dove down to investigate her report. Sure enough, a swarm of arrows shot up from the trees. The blue, drawing nearer, now clearly saw the humans hiding amongst the plant life. She nodded at Natagath's cry and added her own agreement in the form of a battle roar. Her young voice was trumpeting and clear, and she quickly followed it with rapid-fire starfire missiles, which were small enough to get between the tree trunks and branches without setting fire (she had to aim for more clear areas, though). She quickly dove into the trees, setting up a magical ward to protect her more vulnerable areas from arrows and sharp branches (her scales could deflect fine on their own). She dove through the canopy into the more open space beneath and began swerving around trees, swiping down with her tail, claws, and fire when she overtook Vanquishers. Re: Into the Jungle. The soldiers arrived and began to fight back the Vanquishers. Natagath leaped down off his saddle and repelled downward, jumping first from the treetops then to a few branched before landing safely on the ground. The elf flung his dagger at one of the Vanquishers and then blasted a couple backward into tree trunks with his magic.
"You could make this a lot easier on yourselves if you'd just surrender!" he shouted at the remaining cultists. "We shall never surrender to the likes of you!" they replied before firing more arrows. Natagath quickly ducked behind a rock, avoiding the hail of arrows. He used magic to retrieve his dagger and then launched it at another opponent. One Vanquisher tried to strike him from behind with a mace but the elf was too quick. He drew his sword and blocked the attack and then blasted his opponent back against a tree with a burst of air. Violeta skimmed along the treetops, carefully avoiding the vanquishers. Any Vanquisher that escaped today would just come back to haunt them tomorrow. This had to end today once and for all. One of the Vanquishers held up a spear launcher similar to what Lethisa used to hunt with. They fired the spear at Violeta. She banked to the side and avoided a direct hit but the projectile tore through hr wing membrane and the dragoness growled in pain. She immediately dived toward her attacker and released a bolt of lightning, striking down them down. She turned her attention to the Vanquishers who had managed to slip past the soldiers and were trying to escape into the jungle. _________________ And then Saphira ate Edward, Bella, and Jacob. Re: Into the Jungle. Alna'ir continued her method of attack, swerving and darting around the huge tree trunks and attacking in close combat. From above the canopy, she wouldn't be very effective, since she didn't want to start a forest fire. A group of Vanquishers was rushing off toward the river in an attempt to escape. The blue angled her body to turn tightly around a tree and hastened after them, her narrow, pointed wings maneuvering rapidly to avoid hitting the trees. As she approached, she sent a few fireballs at them, which exploded among their ranks, knocking most down and killing a few. The rest kept running as those affected picked themselves up and drew crossbows. Na'ir flapped quickly to shoot up about a dragonlength as a horde of bolts were shot at her. By the time the group had reloaded, it was too late. She was almost directly over them, and let out a powerful blast of starfire, at the same time lighting her scales to blinding proportions so that they could not get a fix on her. With this half of the group dealt with, she continued forward to take care of the rest of them.

Re: Into the Jungle. Natagath ducked to avoid a blow directed at his head and then blew the Vanquishers backward with a blast of air. He was hesitant to summon fire though. There was too great a risk of starting a fire.
"Kveykva!" he shouted, waving his sword and emitting a blast of lightning from the tip of the blade which fanned out and struck several opponents. Violeta landed on the ground and released a lightning storm of energy that fried everyone it touched. She was tired of these Vanquishers and determined to end the threat once and for all. The fighting only lasted a few minutes. Natagath and Violeta persued some of the cultists to the riverbank and, seeing no other escape rout, the Vanquishers committed suicide with their knives. The soldiers that had accompanied them returned to the boats leading a few surviving cultists. Hmf, serves every one of them right. Violeta huffed, happy that the fighting was over. Turning to Na'ir, violeta said, Thank you for helping us. I think it would be best if we returned to the palace. It is too late to do any more traveling today. Na'ir quickly dealt with the rest of the group that had been fleeing towards the river, breathing a massive cloud of flame over their heads as soon as they got into the open and away from the trees and brush. She killed other Vanquishers that fled out towards the river, until at last the rest of them descended the banks, pursued by Violeta, Natagath, and the rest of their forces. Seeing no escape, they committed suicide, much to the blue's disgust. Life was precious, and yet they were taking their own lives. Even an evildoer executing such an act seemed wrong.
Na'ir folded her wings as she stood along the riverbank, watching the soldiers board their boats. Violeta approached her and spoke her gratitude. I was very happy to help, Violeta. My parents fight evil wherever they come across it, and I consider it an honor to carry out their mission and help defeat groups like the Vanquishers, she replied with a smile, her voice containing a note of pride. Was this the last of the Vanquishers, or are there more in Danthuania? she continued, her smile fading. Re: Into the Jungle. Violeta shook her head. I'm afraid there are more Vanquishers still out there. I can confidently say that this area is a lot safer though. Any Vanquishers still in the area will flee now that their comrades have been defeated.
Unfortunately Violeta knew that it would be a very long and difficult struggle to bring a permanent end to the Vanquishers. It would really help if there were other Riders down here to help. The dragoness took off into the sky. heading back to the palace. Natagath patted Violeta on the shoulder and whispered, "Nicely done, Vi." to which she trilled happily. _________________ And then Saphira ate Edward, Bella, and Jacob. Re: Into the Jungle. Na'ir nodded solemnly. That is true. This area is also near the capital, so this was a good place to weaken them. And I'm sure that in time they will be completely annihilated. Evil can't prevail forever, she replied optimistically, a smile spreading across her face. After the lightning dragoness took off, the blue swiftly followed, glad to be back in the air. She'd rather fly than fight any day, and wanted to let the cool air drift over her scales and clear her mind. Though the two-legs she had killed had been evil, that didn't change the fact that she had killed them. Na'ir had an aversion to killing, even if it was necessary. Flying would bring her peace of mind.

Re: Into the Jungle. The trip back to the city was much shorted than the search for the Vanquishers. Violeta was glad to be back at the palace. After the past couple of days she looked forward to a good night sleep.
Tomorrow we will continue our journey. For now I would be perfectly content just relaxing. She curled up on the floor and rested her head. It felt good to just relax with her friends. "It's a shame we didn't get to see more of the city though." replied Natagath as he climbed down out of the saddle. The elf strode over to a chair and opened up the book about lightning dragons that he had been reading. He turned to Na'ir and said, "I guess we can spend the rest of the day finishing up these books." I doubt they'll let us take the books with us. Reading always helped Natagath relax. He was a fast reader and was already more than halfway through reading the book taking in all the information it had to offer. _________________ And then Saphira ate Edward, Bella, and Jacob. Re: Into the Jungle. Alna'ir followed her new friends back to the city, occasionally closing her eyes just to enjoy the feeling of the air passing over her flight membranes. When they returned to their lodging area, she found a comfortable corner and curled up, ready for some relaxation before continuing the journey. She nodded in agreement at Natagath's words, stretching out with the tip of one wing to gently slide a book towards her outstretched claws.
The city is nice. But I'm ready to see new sites. I am far too eager to explore this land to stay in one place for long, even if it is a very lovely place, she replied with a chuckle, folding back the book's cover and beginning to read. She loved to explore, whether it be through personal experience or through gathering knowledge (as in, reading). After a while of reading her way through the first book, she glanced up towards her companions. Violeta had never actually been to the monastery but she had admired it from a distance. She knew that the monks were generally peaceful and and respectful to visitors. Natagath spent the remainder of the gay reading his book about lightning dragons. He enjoyed the information the book provided even though he knew some of it was inaccurate. Finally as night fell Natagath curled up next to Violeta and bid both his dragon and Na'ir good night. Violeta covered him with a wing to keep him warm. After a few more hours of such, when the daylight had faded from the sky, she put the book back with the others and glanced toward the window. She could see the stars outside, twinkling prettily in the warm, hazy air. The constellations were different here. A few she could recognize but most were entirely new to her. In fact, one of the books she had read was about the stars and constellations, as well as legends behind them, of this place. She smiled softly. Wherever she was, there would always be stars in the night to offer comfort. The blue dragoness drifted off to sleep.
Na'ir woke in time to see the sunrise the next day, a habit she had acquired from her parents. Her scales prickled with excitement. They would finally be going to a new place today! She dug through her leather pack, extracting a map delicately so as not to damage it with her long claws, and laid it out before her to look over what she had of Danthuania so far. Re: Into the Jungle. Violeta set out just before sunrise to find breakfast. She returned just as the sun was coming up and awoke her rider.
Are you ready to continue our journey, my friends? Violeta asked her friends, kneeling down so Natagath could strap her saddle to her back. "I suppose it's time we get going." the elf replied after securing the saddle. The let us be on our way! Violeta exclaimed with a cheerful growl. She propelled herself into the air and soared over the city. Illia was quite a sight in the morning sun. Re: Into the Jungle. Na'ir glanced up when Violeta asked if they were ready to continue. She nodded eagerly and repacked her maps, putting the custom-made leather pack back on and getting rapidly to her feet. Natagath leapt onto Violeta's back and the lightning dragon took flight. Na'ir jumped after her, her powerful limbs launching her slight body into the sky. She opened her wings quickly and propelled herself further above the city, enjoying the feeling of sunlight gleaming on her back and wing membranes and the wind rippling past her. It was truly an excellent morning to resume a journey. The blue dragoness bugled out a goodbye to the city below them, zig-zagging cheerfully as she followed her traveling companions. So how far is it to these Mountains? I can't wait to see them and the monastery you mentioned. What's it like? she asked as they left the city, flapping to get even with Violeta and her rider.

Violeta had never actually been to the monastery before and had only seen it from a distance. It was a fantastic structure though, consisting of several buildings built right onto the face of a high cliff and connected by elegant bridges and walkways. Violeta showed bot Natagath and Na'ir a mental image of the place. It has no name. The monks don't bother to name their monasteries. When the lightning dragoness showed her the image of the place, her excitement only grew. That's where we're headed? It's beautiful! she exclaimed, barrel-rolling to one side in her enthusiasm. Do you know anything more about the monks, or that place specifically? she asked after completing her roll, green eyes sparkling at the prospect of learning more about this land. Re: Into the Jungle. Natagath relaxed in his saddle watching as the scenery blew past. Finally as the sun was getting low in the sky, the mountains came into view.
Those are the Amber Mountains ahead. Violeta stated. The mountains were tall and had snowcapped peaks, which seemed out of place among the tropical rainforest. However, the scenery below had changed as well. The tropical jungle had given way to rocky scrublands dotted by evergreen and deciduous trees. Finally, just at dusk, they arrived at the mountains. The mighty river had shrunk into a small mountain stream and flowed through a narrow gap leading into a valley. Violeta skillfully navigated through the canyon. The ravine ended, revealing a vast valley filled with lush mountain forests. It looked very much like any forest back in Alagaesia. The lights of a settlement glowed high up on the side of a cliff. Violeta said to her companions That is the monastery. They monks there are friendly so we should be welcome to stay. The monastery was huge, almost like a small city. It comprised of three huge main buildings all suspended from the side of the cliff. The center building was five floors tall while the two smaller structures on either side were three floors tall. Re: Into the Jungle. Alna'ir flew along with Violeta and Natagath, enjoying the serene sense of freedom in the sky. She didn't like being on the ground. Even really high places on the ground didn't suit her. She was never content except when she was flying (well, most of the time). The day progressed peacefully, and the blue enjoyed the flight, but she was looking forward to seeing their destination. When the mountains came into view in the distance, she began zig-zagging excitedly. Eventually, the forests and snow of the mountains also got within sight, until they entered the immense formations themselves. Na'ir picked up speed eagerly and then slowed herself down, not wanting to tire herself out right at the end of their journey. At last, they came around the last mountains that blocked their view, and a beautiful valley became visible. At the end of the valley, the monastery beckoned. Na'ir grinned, green eyes sparkling with delight and wonder at the magestic scenery. The buildings seemed perfectly suited to this setting, and rather than detract from the natural beauty of the mountains, they seemed only to add to it. The dragoness quickly darted up to Violeta and Natagath, excited to enter this place.

It appeared that most of the people had already gone to bed for the night. Most of the windows were dark and there were only a few people milling about. Needless to say, the sudden appearance of two dragons had drawn some attention. IC: Natagath climbed down from the saddle and looked around. Everything was quiet. Natagath could hear the sound of running water nearby and followed it until he was a small waterfall trickling down from the mountain above and into a large reflecting pool. A small channel led from the pool to the edge of the building where it poured over the side and into the valley below. "Fascinating..." the elf muttered, stroking his chin. There was a large empty building nearby which was filled with tables. Natagath made his way inside. This building appeared to be a banquet hall. Natagath wordlessly lit the torches lining the wall to get a better look at the room. It was massive inside with a high ceiling and a couple of stone columns in the center of the room. Honestly, were it not for the tables, this room would even be large enough for a dragon to enter. You'll have to ask one of the locals. I am not really familiar with these people. IC: Na'ir landed neatly, folding her pointed wings and gazing around eagerly. The reflecing pool glittered with the fading light, and the blue watched the waters sparkling calmly for a while. Natagath dropped down from Violeta and entered one of the buildings, and it was then that the blue noticed how empty the immediate space around them was. She watched Natagath, using her vision powers to look through the building wall and search through the hall, filled with tables and other furniture that suggested the resident two-legs used it for eating as a group. Violeta replied that she wasn't sure, and Na'ir nodded. I will, then. But, where are the locals? I don't see any nearby. Re: Into the Jungle. As Natagath was about to head back to the others when a knife suddenly whizzed by his head and stuck into the wall. The elf spun around to face his attacker. He was surprised to see a young woman. She was dressed in grey raggy clothes and had two swords in sheats across her back.
"Who are you? What are you doing here?" the woman demanded. Dang it, Vi! I thought you said these people were friendly! he called out to Violeta. Pulling the knife out of the wall, Natagath replied, "I am Natagath. I am a dragon Rider. At that moment, Violeta peeked into the doorway to see what was going on. The woman gasped in shock when she saw the dragon. "It's alright. We were just passing through the area and we wanted to stop and rest for the night. We didn't mean any harm." The elf explained. "So you're not with him?" the girl asked. "Who's "him"?" Natagath asked. The strange frying beast that's been paying us visits! It broke into our library twice. I have no clue what he might have been looking for but he left quite a mess!" Flying creature is a bit too vague. Perhaps if you be more specific, we can identify what it is that is attacking you. However, the woman had thrown a knife at the rider and was speaking to him angrily. The blue dragoness walked forward, watching the scene through the wall of the building while Violeta poked her head inside. Apparently some flying beast had been attacking the people here lately. She nodded when Violeta spoke. Yes, that would be the most help. Maybe we can help you with the problem. I volunteer my services, anyway, she added with a smile, green eyes bright (even though she was most likely only partially visible around the lightning dragoness, who was filling up the doorway). These monks, or at least this woman, if she was a monk, were apparently not the peaceful kind.

The girl smirked. "Believe me, if I had been trying to hit you, you wouldn't still be standing there." She stuck the knife in a sheath on her belt and explained, "Now, this creature that has been attacking us... it looks like a large bird of some sort. It has attacked out library twice. We tried to communicate with it and ask it what it wanted but it never speaks to us. It left a couple of feathers behind last time though. Maybe you'll have more luck identifying it the I have. I've never seen anything like this creature before in my life." It couldn't have been a gryphon, could it? Violeta asked. "A gryphon?" the girl asked, puzzled. You know, it has the front half of a bird of prey and the back end of a large feline? The girl still looked puzzled. "No, this was nothing like that. It just looked like a big colorful bird of some kind. There was a lot of red feathers on its body. We still have the feathers in the library. I'll show them to you." "Do you have a name?" Natagath asked. "Ezara. But everyone calls me Zara. And yours?" "I am Natagath and this is my dragon companion, Violeta. Re: Into the Jungle. Na'ir listened in on the conversation between Natagath and the young female, Ezara. The first thing that came to mind when she mentioned the large bird was a roc, large fearsome birds that her mother had once faced. But there were more large bird-like creatures than that, such as gryphons (as Violeta had mentioned), phoenixes, and terrabirds. My name is Alna'ir. Pleased to meet you, Ezara, she put in when the others introduced themselves. Phoenixes are often reddish in color, or at least what phoenixes are left... Other than that I'm not sure what kind of creature it might be, she added, trying to be helpful. She decided to wait until they saw the feathers before giving any more judgement. She thought she could be helpful with identification, since she was becoming quite well-traveled and had heard descriptions of many exotic creatures from dragons who were even more traveled. There was a small issue, however. Will Violeta and I be able to fit into this library? she asked, somewhat concerned.

She started walking toward a two story building at the end of the street. Natagath shrugged and followed after her. As they approached the building, it was clear that the building had been damaged in the fight. The front doors were ripped off their hinges and there was a visible mess of torn paper all over the inside of the building. "Wait here." Zara said to the others. She spoke to two guards who were standing by the entrance and ran inside. Moments later, she returned with the two feathers. Handing them to Natagath so that the others could see them, Zara asked, "What do you make of them?" "I've never seen feathers like these before." the elf replied. Re: Into the Jungle. Na'ir laughed, glad that Zara had them in mind. She ambled down the street behind the two-legs, surveying the inside of the library building with her special vision as they approached. She stopped and rested back on her haunces when Zara went inside to retrieve the feathers. Eventually she emerged, a pair of large feathers in one hand. Handing them to Natagath, she asked what the group thought. Na'ir bent to give them a sniff, but didn't recognize the smell (though that wasn't exactly surprising, considering she had never really smelled any of the large birds she had heard of). I don't recognize the smell, and the feathers aren't incredibly distinctive... do you remember any other unique characteristics of this bird? she asked, thinking over what it could be.

Violeta examined the feathers once more. I have never seen roc feathers with such coloring. Besides, a roc would be far too massive to fit into this building so I think we can rule those out. The lightning dragon thought for a moment. There are no large bird species native to Danthuania so it must have come from across the sea. Re: Into the Jungle. Na'ir nodded as Zara spoke again, wondering if maybe it would strike again. Perhaps they could get a better look, then, since dragons had much better night vision than two-legs. Violeta added her own opinion, to which the blue nodded. A roc would be too large... something smaller than a roc, and not a gryphon. I would say either a phoenix or a small terrabird, but like rocs, terrabirds aren't brightly-colored. I do not know any other large bird species. Phoenixes are incredibly rare, though, she said, becoming a little worried. It could be a phoenix... but there were only two living phoenixes she knew of, and one was trapped in a floating palace in the upper reaches of the atmosphere. She dearly hoped it was not the other option.

 IC: Na'ir nodded, feeling very nervous now. She hoped that this would just be a reclusive, previously unknown phoenix that was just causing a little trouble. That she could deal with fine through words and persuasion. I guess we should try a stake-out for now, and see if it really is a phoenix, then. Thank you, Natagath, she said, inclining her head toward the rider with a smile. She sighed, deciding she should tell them about Rigel in case it was him... though she didn't know why it would be. What could he be doing here, in Danthuania? Phoenixes are really rare, like I said. I only know of two still living. Re: Into the Jungle. Na'ir smiled grimly and nodded as Natagath responded. There is one particularly dangerous, insane phoenix I know of named Rigel. He has powers beyond those of a normal phoenix. He can cast some spells, and control ice. His fire is cold, and causes immense pain. He is also very cunning and an experienced killer... a murderer of dragons and even his own kind, she began, shivering, and not just from the chill of dusk. She had never met Rigel, but she had heard stories of him from her mother. She had warned Na'ir and her siblings countless times to stay away from the phoenix; that he was one of the most dangerous creatures alive. He... he also has a personal vendetta against my family, so if it is him this will be particularly dangerous, she added, hanging her head. If it was Rigel, she wasn't sure what she would do. Would he know who she was? Would it put these people in even greater danger, or would he attack regardless? If her presence ended up causing more danger, she would probably have to leave.
Rigel ripped through the last of the papers he had stolen, tearing them to bits with his huge talons. He had heard the rumors of the land to the south, and had traveled here, searching for more secrets to greater power. He had faced the silver one in battle a few times, but it had been for naught. She had too many allies, and it seemed like she was gaining strength and power all the time. He needed to find a way to heighten his own powers, and this new land seemed promising. However, his most recent raid had turned up nothing yet again. Usually he would be more patient and would have visited the library peacefully, but his impatience was getting the better of him yet again. He didn't have time to do things nicely. "Alright, you two find some place to rest. I'll be on the lookout for anything suspicious." The night air in the mountains was cool and crisp, unlike the hot steamy jungles that. Natagath sat inside the library where it was a little warmer. If the mysterious creature came back, it would likely return the same way came in the first two times. Ezara had decided to keep watch as well. She strung up a trip wire over the entrance but she wasn't sure if it would do any good. Natagath found sat down in a corner with his crossbow on his lap, loaded and ready to go. He also had plenty of magic stored in the gem on his sword. Re: Into the Jungle. Na'ir nodded to Natagath, thanking him again as she left in search of a place to rest. She found a nice place next to a building, sheltered but still open to the stars. She knew that this night would be restless for her. Could it really be Rigel? Was it possible he had found his way to this land as well? The thought frightened her, and she shifted around uneasily. She was more on her own in this land, with no one but her new friends to help her. She knew the most about Rigel, but her information was from stories only, not experience. And she wasn't a great fighter, so it wouldn't prove much use anyway. The only thing that usually saved her in combat situations were her flying skills and powers... but would that be enough? She gave a heaving sigh, opening her eyes and gazing upwards. At least the stars offered comfort.
Rigel tightened his large, feathery wings and glided down to some rocks. The monastery was down below, standing at the edge of the valley stretched out beyond him. He knew the monks would be more prepared this time. Maybe they would even try out some magical traps. The phoenix smirked at the thought. Pitiful humans. They were far easier to kill than dragons or phoenixes, and Rigel had killed plenty of those. He lightly cast his consiousness down below him, just enough to check a few things but not enough to be detected, and immediately sensed some wakeful minds. So there were guards posted this time. Interesting. Rigel mumbled a few spells under his breath. A sudden barrage of small rocks and dust immediately pelted down the mountainside towards the buildings. Not enough to cause damage, but certainly enough for a distraction. Enough dust built in the air so that the phoenix could hide. Rigel glided silently off the ledge, murmuring one last spell so that he would make no noise, and landed in the shadows near one of the buildings. The elf grabbed his crossbow and remained perfectly still and quiet. He couldn't see what was going on outside but there was quite a lot of noise.

Re: Into the Jungle. Na'ir was awakened by the clattering sound of rocks and gravel rolling and tumbling down the mountainside. Her head shot up and she gazed around the slopes of the mountains and the valley beyond the monastery, though she could see nothing in either place. She let out a long breath of air. It seemed like it had just been a natural rockslide. She was being overly-paranoid about the possibility of Rigel attacking them. She shuffled her wings and laid her head back down, although she was still very much awake.
Little did she know that Rigel was not on the mountain or in the valley, but in the dark alley between two buildings. The phoenix waited, and waited some more. He had to wait until his quarry felt safe. Eventually, when all was quiet, he peaked out from the building, being sure to avoid coming into sight of any windows. There were a few wakeful minds yet, and he could sense two dragons. In fact, one was a little familiar. He frowned. He could not risk probing the mind any more or he could be detected, but he could have sworn it felt a little like Phalynx's mind. However, he would know the mental presence of his archenemy anywhere, and it wasn't her. He fluttered to the top of a building, quickly muttering a spell to take away all sounds made by his wings and feathers and then his talons against the stone. He peered in the direction of the mind, curiosity overtaking him, and saw blue scales. He finally let out a tiny, soundless sigh. That would have to wait. The elf held his crossbow close and ready to use if necessary. He wanted to alert Violeta but feared that doing so would give away his position.
Violeta awoke in the nearby cave she had found to sleep in. There was a commotion outside. The dragoness got to her feet and silently made her way to the entrance of the cave. Re: Into the Jungle. Na'ir, still very much alert, bolted upright at the shuffling noise. She stepped into the open, peering away from the buildings in time to notice Violeta approaching them, obviously agitated by something. By their smells, she could tell that Natagath and Zara were awake and alert as well. Apparently there really was something going on. She moved further out of the shelter of the buildings and caught another scent, this one neither dragon nor human. Her scales bristled as she recognized the bird-like odor. Could this be the phoenix that had attacked the library before? Could it really be Rigel? She crept closer to the library, intent on finding out.
Rigel dove rapidly toward the window, muttering a rapid spell to cut through their magical defenses as quickly as possible. However, the drain on his energy was far greater than expected. The monks had obtained some sort of magical help. The phoenix frowned but did not have time to think more on it, because at that moment he crashed through the window into the library, a few trace wards still ripping away some of his feathers. He got in a defensive stance instantly, wings half-raised from his sides and beak outstretched. He cast an ice spell, sending shards hurtling throughout the room and hopefully tearing at the newcomers to the monastery. He cast his eyes around as quickly as possible, hoping to come across the right section this time. It wasn't as if the monks would just let their most important books sit on any shelves in the main room. He began maneuvering to the back of the library, sending more ice magic in front of him to deal with attackers. Being as large a creature as he was, he couldn't get to the other end of the room as quickly as he would have liked. Na'ir heard a terrible crash as the phoenix entered the library. She immediately darted into the air, her scales igniting with a powerful silvery light. If this really was Rigel, she would defend the monks and their peaceful home to the best of her ability. Re: Into the Jungle. Zara quickly turned over a table and took shelter behind it as a hailstorm of ice shards shot through the room. She removed a couple of smoke bombs from her pocket and prepared to use them is necessary. If this creature relied on smell and sight to find them, it was about to be out of luck.
Natagath launched a blast of air at the incoming projectiles, blasting them away. The elf quickly and silently moved to a different hiding place to remain hidden. He could sense Violeta approaching which meant that backup was on the way. The elf peered out from behind a book case at the phoenix. In the darkness he could make out the creature's body because of his enhanced vision. Natagath raised his crossbow, staring down the iron sights as he lined up the phoenix's back. Placing a ward around himself to protect himself from an icy blast, the elf spoke up, "Alright, hold it right there! I am going to give you exactly once chance to surrender and that's it!" _________________ And then Saphira ate Edward, Bella, and Jacob. The end! -How Twilight should have ended... Re: Into the Jungle. Rigel continued making his way through the library, ignoring the books he was passing (he already knew them to be useless to his purposes). A voice sounded from the other side of the room, and the phoenix paused, twisting his head around to regard the two-leg with a cold yellow gaze. This was a new two-leg, and he assumed he was the rider to one of the dragons outside (which would explain the new magic). Do not try my patience. I could destroy you and your dragon with little effort; you will not stop me from getting what I want, he growled into the boy's mind, his feathers ruffling slightly. He rapidly extended one wing, knocking the nearest bookshelf into the next one and causing a domino effect to spread through the room as all of the shelves began to topple over. He swiftly chanted another spell, and instead of ice shards, a cloud of tiny ice crystals like thick fog spread around the phoenix and blocked him from view. He twisted back around and hurried along on his way, knowing the magic-users would clear his fog within moments.
Na'ir headed straight to the broken window. She could see within the library, and could see the skeletons of all the creatures within, including the phoenix. The air inside was cold, and a thick white fog had spread throughout half of the room. This was not ordinary phoenix magic... only one phoenix she knew of could use magic like this... Rigel, she murmurred, taking a few steps back in apprehension. The glow of her scales dimmed slightly. She growled at herself, not wanting to show fear, and raced around the library to get to a window near the phoenix. He was larger than her and yet he fit (barely) in the library, so she guessed she would be able to get inside as well. Re: Into the Jungle. Rigel grunted slightly as the rider's arrow hit him in the back. Being as large as he was, it didn't do much damage, but it stung and rather angered him. A huge wave of blue flames, cold rather than hot, suddenly burst off his feathers and swept through almost a third of the room, setting the books and shelves on fire. The fire did as much damage as a normal flame, but when a living being touched it they would feel an agonizingly painful cold, enough to chill their very souls and freeze them to the spot in some cases. The flames, being Rigel's natural attack, also cost him little energy. He finally got to the other side of the room and began smashing open doors, looking for any place where more books might be kept. Suddenly, a piercingly bright blue-tinged-silver light flooded the room, and Rigel heard a window smash. His immediate thought was of Phalynx, for she was the only dragon he knew that could emit starlight, and he spat a curse aloud. However, this light had a blue undertone to it...
