Actually Harry Potter 4 was PG-13. And by that book it wasn't all Disney-like anymore. Actually, book 3 should have been PG-13 but that one was just down right awful.

Well, you kind ahave to understand the rating scale before you mkae judgements, It goes somthen like this I beleave.
Descritions l Rating points.
__________
sexual 10
expleate 8
moderate 6
mild 4
Actions l Rating points.(may vary depending upon value of action in movie/game/etc.)
Violence +2-5
Language +1-3
themes +1-4
images +3-5
Gore +2-4
Example:
Contains expleate violence+11
mild to moderate language.+7
Gore.(blood,guts,etc.)+2
Total rating points=20
Rating=PG-13
Not graded acuratly or proper values used.
These arn't all the description/actions by ESRB but it gives you some what of an idea of how they grade things and the rating of one can vary alot, like if someone only uses bad language once it will only be like 1-2 but if they use it alot Example gta sanandreas it could be 4 or 5 depending on the level of language.

Anyone see the premeir on last moday? it was on sci fi they showed a 5 min. premeir of the first time eragon flies on saphira(not counting the run from raz'ac in carvahall). I love how they're doing saphiras mind voice. It sounded really cool and realistic.

I like Saphira's voice, it sounds like my sister. But it needs a higher rating! PG-13 at least.

yea, they havn't changed the com. yet because they're not total sure yet if it should be PG or PG-13. It might not even be rated by the time it comes out. It's happend before with a lot of movies.

This isn't on shurtugal, hun. check eragonmovie.com.
I'll quote the CARA.
Title: Eragon (2006)
Rating: PG
Rating Reason: Rated PG for fantasy violence, intense battle sequences and some frightening images.
Distributor: Twentieth Century Fox Film Corp.
PG is defined as "a film which clearly needs to be examined by parents before they let their children attend. The label PG plainly states parents may consider some material unsuitable for their children, but leaves the parent to make the decision. Parents are warned against sending their children, unseen and without inquiry, to PG-rated movies. The theme of a PG-rated film may itself call for parental guidance. There may be some profanity in these films. There may be some violence or brief nudity. However, these elements are not considered so intense as to require that parents be strongly cautioned beyond the suggestion of parental guidance. There is no drug use content in a PG-rated film. The PG rating, suggesting parental guidance, is thus an alert for examination of a film by parents before deciding on its viewing by their children. Obviously such a line is difficult to draw. In our pluralistic society it is not easy to make judgments without incurring some disagreement. As long as parents know they must exercise parental responsibility, the rating serves as a meaningful guide and as a warning."
PG-13 is "a sterner warning to parents, particularly when deciding which movies are not suitable for younger children. Parents, by the rating, are alerted to be very careful about the attendance of their under-teenage children. A PG-13 film is one which, in the view of the Rating Board, leaps beyond the boundaries of the PG rating in theme, violence, nudity, sensuality, language, or other contents, but does not quite fit within the restricted R category. Any drug use content will initially require at least a PG-13 rating. In effect, the PG-13 cautions parents with more stringency than usual to give special attention to this film before they allow their 12-year-olds and younger to attend. If nudity is sexually oriented, the film will generally not be found in the PG-13 category. If violence is too rough or persistent, the film goes into the R (restricted) rating. A film's single use of one of the harsher sexually derived words, though only as an expletive, shall initially require the Rating Board to issue that film at least a PG-13 rating. More than one such expletive must lead the Rating Board to issue a film an R rating, as must even one of these words used in a sexual context. These films can be rated less severely, however, if by a special vote, the Rating Board feels that a lesser rating would more responsibly reflect the opinion of American parents. "
That said, some things in Eragon should be "beyond the boundaries of the PG rating." at some points. I don't think the movie will be too great. If im not mistaken there are a few points in the book where certain words are used simply as meaningless intensives, which while almost all would be taken out because I'm sure that they didn't want an R rated movie, they could have left a word in there once if this was going to have good battle scenes, which should have made it at least PG-13 in the first place. My guess is that the only close up battle will be Eragon vs. Durza, which will be mostly magic. I suppose they could have let some slide, but the original book shouldn't be PG by any means. I just hope the Ratings board messed up, and not FOX. I just hope :/

Honestly, it would help get more people to come if they didn't, but I think after a while it would be considered false advertising. They're probably just waiting to renew their contracts with the broadcasting company or something. (But I have to say, they waited untill the last minute to get it rated in the first place.)

They waited on the last minute for everything...y'all know its not going to be that famous right? If they started showing the trailers for Eragon a few months ago then it would be HUGE. but they waited till Thanksgiving(nov 23 or so. American thing) to start showing the trailers. but yeah, its not rated yet so hopefully they will make it better then PG.

It is rated, at least in the US, just not on the adds yet. Check any of these for confirmation.

Always does. Especially with 21 Century Fox for some reason. They always seem to take a concept, like dragonriders, and then take characters, major events, and the world, and make their own movie out of it, and use the original title. I have yet to see one of their productions that resembles what it's named after, really.

They always seem to take a concept, like dragonriders, and then take characters, major events, and the world, and make their own movie out of it, and use the original title. I have yet to see one of their productions that resembles what it's named after, really. Yes I've seen many trailers and "movie preveiws" online. The movie is Noticably diffrent from the book or so I've seen and read.
I think they wanted more people to come to it. If they rated it PG-13 most wouldn't let ther '8-year olds' go and watch it.

I know, but now most of the 17+ year olds don't want to see it. They would have gained more aiming for a 10-30 age group, because that's generally the age group of the books. Which most people who want to see the movie (which is also an important form of advertising) are the people who read the books. I don't see anything FOX could have gotten out of a PG movie..

I'm its kind of ironic that they are trying to appeal to younger children as well becuase the book its self is suggested for an older audciance

PG means for parents to be cautious about the content they let there children watch. I've watched the film, and just because there wasn't enough violence in it didn't make it a rubbish film. Infact, I do believe that it was very good.
Minus the missing abit of blood, I think the violence was very good, especally thte battle scens with the Ra'Zac and the fight in Farthen Dur with the Kulls/Urgals.
