 Finished the book?
Just a topic to say who has finished the book already. If anyone cares, you can use this formula.
Date Bought: 11/11/11 Date Finished: 14/11/11 Timezone: UTA/GMT +10
I loved the book, hated the ending. Interesting how Galbatorix was defeated in the end. Gives so many thread ideas, though I'm still waiting for the deadline.

 Re: Finished the book?
Date Started: 11/11/11 Date Finished: 14/11/11 Timezone: I'm in Texas, you figure it out.
I actually really liked the ending. Most times when an author finishes a story of this kind, it goes off on a "and they all lived happily ever after" kind of note. This time we got to see some of the effort and strife that goes into rebuilding after a war like that. Granted we didn't see every little detail, but it was still cool. Another thing that has to be considered is that CP was passing the time until Firnen would be of an age for Saphira and him to... ahem... brown chicken brown cow.
And he was probably throwing in some of those open-ended questions for some more Alagaesia books.
I think he was talking about the rp deadline. All details about the last book are on lockdown to this section until a week from today; you can't even mention it during rp storylines until then.

 Re: Finished the book?
Date Bought/Started: 8/11/11 Date Finished: 8/11/11 lol It took me exactly 13 1/2 hours to finish. And I pretty much hated the ending. It was good, I guess, but it was the kind of ending that made me go; "Come on, there has to be more than that! What happens next?!" quite dissatisfying in my opinion.
I feel so sorry for Eragon for not having the relationship with Arya that he wanted. He's given so much of himself for the war that he deserved to have some sort of reward, and Arya's love would have been perfect. )': So sad.
I knew that Arya would be the green Rider. It made sense. It was either going to be her, Roran, or Nasuada. But I suspected mostly that it would be Arya. Because, there had to be balance. Saphira had chosen a human Rider, so it had to be an Elven Rider that was chosen next, to keep the scales level so that no race would feel jipped or anything. Firnen is a good name for him, too.

i'm sorry, too, for eragon and arya. also i've noticed that after killing galby, eragon became wiser. he wasn't the same boy anymore. wouldn't that have changed his true name? killing the king changed a lot about his person. and also the memories from the eldunaris made him wiser.
does anyone know if CP is going to write any other books? i'm curios about how he'll train the next riders and i want more of Arya

He had pretty much said that he was going to continue the story of Alagaesia in his thank you notes at the end of the book.

What I found most interesting is that there have been two nuclear bombs set off in the history of alagaesia. Also, I hope to see a book explaining what Eragon does afterward, or a series, even. Maybe 200-300 pages each, small books compared to the main Cycle.

 Re: Finished the book?
I think they're putting the date European style They go: Day/Month/Year, while of course we go Month/Day/Year.

 Re: Finished the book?
Just finished the book 5 minutes ago. Loved the book until the ending. There are several unanswered questions and certain aspects were really unsatisfactory.
I was glad that Saphira found another dragon. *Hint hint, nudge nudge.*
But what about Eragon? At the end I was like "WTF!" After all the suspense and drama of Eragon longing for Arya... this is how it ends?! Laaaaaaaaaaaaaaaammmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmeeeeeeeeee
If not them being together, was expecting to at least see "the one night together" deal before he left. But nooooooo, gah this is driving me insane now. *Opens WordPad and begins to type alternate ending where everything is right in the universe."

 Re: Finished the book?
Um... peoples? I just found the hugest plot discontinuation.... I didn't even notice it until a friend pointed it out, but what happened to the seven words? Remember the seven words Brom told Eragon right before he died? Those weren't even mentioned in Inheritance.... it's like he completely dropped them.

 Re: Finished the book?
I doubt that, it's probably one of those questions meant to drive us up the wall. It'll probably have something to do with future Alagaesian books.

 Re: Finished the book?
so the first time i read the book i got ahead of myself and finished it in a little under 2 days, im a fast reader and i can absorb a lot but i felt kind of empty. partly because it was the end of the series but also because even after digesting it all the next day i still felt like it all hadnt "clicked" i guess. the week or so after i kinda just stopped reading altogether, focused on rc racing and house chores and just kinda focusing on the tasks at hand.
i just finished reading it for a second time. took me all week and it was even better the second time around. but whats really interesting is that, yes id like to see more stories from the alagaesia universe, but i think id be ok if cp just decided to let it end with inheritance. he did a good job of ending it, just needed to read it again to realize it.
hope this wasnt too rambly...

 Re: Finished the book?
Date Bought: Can't remember, pre-ordered it ages ago. Date Finished: 12/23/11 3:09am Timezone: GMT
I pre-ordered this book and it was delivered last month, however I've been living away for quite some time now and only got back on the 21st at about 11p.m. Started reading the book at about 9a.m. on the 22nd and finished it (with breaks) as stated above. Firstly, I just want to say I thought this book was amazing. With the exception of Angela and the 7 words Brom spoke, everything was tied up nicely, and I'm happy with how it ended. I'm especially happy with how CP admirably showed Eragon to be a much more mature character than the previous books by his self-sacrificing nature with regards to Arya and his family. After 12 years (writing time) of struggling for the freedom of the people, Eragon finally grew up. Just as everything was settled for him, peace was restored, his family had been enlarged and both himself and Saphira had found the mates they'd been looking for, they both decided to give up all their personal desires for utilitarianistic purposes. The only bit that does concern me is that Angela predicted he would never return... does this mean for a flying visit (excuse the pun)? Or does it mean permanently? Even with overseeing the raising of new riders and dragons, endurance into infinity must be a lonely prospect. Of course this also means that it's not as if others can't come visit him. It does raise questions as to how we will be able to help Nasuada and the Varden in the first few years if any eggs which do hatch are not strong enough to be left alone and/or be sent in his place. I think we all wish that Arya and Eragon will have the future they deserve, and remember that within the universe a) they are both near enough immortal b) elves take a long time to change their minds, although Arya is more hot-headed than normal, which may mean that when a suitable replacement is found she may give up her title of Queen and join Eragon in the training of the new order of riders. It's not as if it's outside the realms of possibility. Outside of the universe, there is also the distinct chance that CP may see the reaction of readers and work this plot line into further publications. I will be disappointed, however, if he includes it almost as a foot note in another novel, set years in the future, for example "New character 1 set down the book he had been reading. "Huh" he said to New character 2 "Did you know that one of the few mating pairs of humans and elves included the fabled Eragon and Arya? Their dragons mated too. It probably helped that they were both riders. You're still in luck mate." Also, one last question: How do we interpret Arya's comment of "Well, that was quick" with regards to Saphira and Firnen meeting each other? Does she mean just in general, their fondness for each other developed quickly? Or does she mean that they mated quickly? I'd like to believe the latter for a few reasons: 1) Saphira comments that dragons do not mate for life, and I presume they play fighting they have is a mating ritual, not just a strange form of masochistic courtship 2) When eagles mate, they fly up high to the sky and lock talons, hurtling towards the ground as they mate. If they do not consummate the union, each one dashes itself upon the ground rather than break free from the other. It'd entertain me to imagine that dragons do something similar, although maybe they're slightly more intelligent than to let themselves die. 3) When describing the performance, CP details Arya as smiling and Eragon as being abashed. Obviously they're both privy to their dragons thoughts, and with Arya's elven instincts and maturity, she would see the bond as a joyous thing, whereas Eragon, with his relatively small amount of knowledge and experience on the subject, finds the whole process embarrassing. This further enhances my belief that the dragons actually mated. 4) CP describes the overall passage with a phrase by basically saying "everyone does it, even elves." 'Nuff said. I'm especially hoping these reasons win true, because it'd be interesting to think that maybe the next book would be of the egg Saphira would birth from their mating, and with a bit of luck, if Eragon and Arya had a child, he/she/it could become the new rider of Saphira's egg!
Anyway, that's just my thoughts. Also, this is strange, the last time I posted on this site was Thu Jun 12, 2008 6:43 pm... over 3 years ago!

 Re: Finished the book?
Bought: release date Started: 17/12/2011 Finished : 2 pages left. Might leave it like that for some time The battles at the beginning of the book were kind of long. During that period of time until Eragon set off to fly with Saphira for the vault of souls nothing was happening. Once that occurred it felt like the book was moving. Another thing that really annoyed me in the book was the use of the ancient language which was obviously missing. You can probably omit a couple of spells, but it felt like it was happening all the time. Anything that had not already been defined in the pass 3 books was just omitted and left undefined.

 Re: Finished the book?
Date Bought: 9/29/11 (pre-ordered) Date Started: 11/8/11 (release day) Date Finished: 11/19/11 In my opinion, I thought that this was the best book of the Cycle. Although the ending was bittersweet to say the least, I still enjoyed reading it. I've heard through the grapevine that Paolini might be writing another book in which Eragon, Arya, Brom, and the other main Dragon Riders will return to Alagaësia. Only question is: will that actually happen? We'll just have to wait and see. Right now, I've heard that if it actually does happen, the book won't be out until at least 2016-2020. I'll be well out of college by then most likely, but I'll still probably get my paws on that book if Paolini actually does decide to write it.

 Re: Finished the book?
Checked out from Library: Sometime last November...I think... Finished: Sometime after that
I didn't really like it that much...*Dodges items that will be thrown at her* Sort of feel like Eragon becomes more and more of a Gary-Stu type of character in each book. I mean, CP used every chance he could get to tell us all about how wonderful Eragon is, all about how great he is at fighting. It was overdone, it really was. Even Murtagh, when he was stabbed, CP barely mentioned it before he went back to squeeing over Ergo.
I was disappointed pretty badly, but hey, I can say I've read the Inheritance all the way through. Horray ^_^

*eye twitches*
...Anyways...
Grimmr, at the top right of your post, there's a button called "Edit". It is your friend. Lol, but thank you for including your timezone. And I don't know about all the Riders returning (definitely not Brom though, I know that for sure, read his interview on Shur'tugal and Random Buzzers), but he is going to write more books in Alagaesia. I also totally agree with you, this was the best one of the series. I especially liked how he showed the beginning of things being fixed in the Empire. I always find stuff like that interesting. (Well, not always, some authors can manage to make that boring...)

 Re: Finished the book?
Date Bought: Uh, not sure... a month or two ago?
Date Finished: 1/5/12
Well, I thought it was really good (:
I mean, there was stuff he left out which kind of bothers me, but if he writes more books maybe we'll find out what they're about. Other than that, it was pretty good. I liked it. And that last battle, damn. That thing was hella epic, it would look great in a movie or something. I remember I was able to imagine the perfect music for each moment. I remember how I would get annoyed sometimes when the book would switch point of view because certain characters could be a bit boring at times, and I thought that last battle would be the same. It would be from Eragon's point of view, and I would be hella into it, and then I saw it was gonna switch to Roran and I would kinda groan. But then I would read Roran's part and I would be like damn, this is even better, and then I would groan to see Eragon's part approaching, but Eragon's part would suck me right back in haha.
Now, the end. Well, wow. There's good things and bad things about it. For the most part, I can be satisfied and say that it's a really good ending, but there are a few things that bother me. The main one is Eragon's reasons for leaving. He's sacrificing A LOT, so I felt like the whole "It's the only place the Dragon Riders can be" argument was kind of weak. I'm pretty sure that with some thought they could have thought up of a better solution. At least Vroengard again. After all, he could use the name of names to make the place habitable, duh. The other thing I didn't like was how he was placing so much stock by Angela's prophecy. Come on now, even Arya said that the future is never written in stone by a prophecy, that they can change and it all depends on the person. I hated how he was saying he would never return just because Angela predicted it, and how everything was "meant to be" just because Angela predicted it
However, the decision to leave forever is a very brave one, and it makes one respect Eragon even more. It helps to show us how much he has learned, lived, and matured throughout the books. And it goes without saying, it makes the whole story far more epic. I also love how Eragon said he was too powerful to remain in Alagaesia, that he could end up becoming like Galbatorix and that there needed to be balance. That argument alone made his character seem ten times more epic. In fact, if he had used this argument alone, instead of the other ones, then I would have been very happy with the end.

 Re: Finished the book?
Date Bought: The day after release I think? Date Finished: 2 or 3 days later. Timezone: Central US
Woah. So, what an intense book. Definitely worth the money and more than worth the time it took me to read it. There were a lot of surprises that I didn't expect that made me happy. Eggs in the Vault of Souls and the twist of Nausuada getting kidnapped and the different things Galbatorix did to her. As mean as it is he did bring weird and twisted things from all over Alagaesia to use which was interesting even though the fact she was tortured was not too great. I did wish that the Vault had been more difficult to find. It was pretty much "Oh hey look at this arch." "Oh hey we found it!" A little disappointing but I suppose it played into the fact that they didn't really have time to get there to begin with. I loved that the older dragons were so weird and such. Not weird just dragons in their own way and unable to speak in their language so much.
I love the saying that Eragon and Saphira made on their way there as well. "The Earth is round and the sky is empty?" Or something along those lines. I was actually rather disappointed with the final battle. I didn't read much of the fight with Roran mainly because I skimmed through it and saw so many people die and didn't want to read that at the moment but I will get back to it at some point. But yeah I enjoyed their short trip through the first hallway into the throne room more than when they were in there. I thought how Galbatorix died was interesting but I didn't think it was too spectacular. It was nice that Murtagh threw out the name of the ancient language too. At that point I felt like they were doomed and were going to lose fer sure.
The only thing that I did not completely enjoy was the lack of Angela being in the ending. I had really hoped she would be further explained or at least have her identity revealed or some part of her revealed but eh. Those seven words were lost as well and I still wonder what they mean.
I actually liked the fact that Eragon left. Mainly because that meant him and Arya weren't together though they showed obvious feelings toward each other in the end. Eragon was right in the fact that he was too strong. For Nasuada to put so much work on him in the end means she herself is naive. There should not be a spell caster so dominantly more powerful than the others in charge and not her right to restrict them so much even if she thought she was doing the right thing. I would have liked to know where they went and how the land outside of Alagaesia is but I guess my curiosity will never be sated. I really dislike that but it had to end and it ended well.

 Re: Finished the book?
Date Bought: christmas Date Finished: ?
Overall I liked the book, even though the end disappointed me. The worst part for me was the whole battle of Aroughs or whatever, I really think CP could've deleted that entire chunk of the book and it would've been better off. I really don't like reading battles in general, the details bore me. But a lot of the other stuff was good, especially them finding the Vault of Souls and the Eldunaris. The end left a lot of loose ends though, it seems. Murtagh just flying off indefinitely at the end? Eragon and Arya's extremely uneventful goodbye? No explanation of Angela at all? And it irks me how Eragon has to leave Alagaesia forever... Maybe CP could've taken it easy on the other parts of the book and added to the ending a little more, cause we're kinda left hanging at the end. Hopefully he'll write another book or something to tie it all together. We might have to wait like 4 years though... lol.
