 Re: Below AlagaesiaRanog and Urson rode silently even though the most brittle places where the shale was less than half an inch thick and was sliding all over. They stopped only when they arrived at the smallest of the rocks. There, he dismopunted and slimbed up, leading Urson by the reign. He sat at the top of the smallest, but still monstrous rock. He sat there, breathing heavily from the exertion and with Urson nearby panting for breath. He observed the dragons and Kit. He would wait on them.

Re: Below Alagaesia Phal blinked at Shyara, surprised. To tell the truth, she had thought about it very little, and hardly at all about "who." She laughed. I honestly don't know about who. I guess I've been so busy with other things that I hadn't given it much thought. There are a few dragons I'm friends with that I might one day pick, but for now I really don't know, she replied with a lighthearted smile. She glanced down at their ground-dwelling companions. Hm, looks like they might be having some trouble, she said, searching for an easier route for her friends to take. Hey, there's an easier path if you cut through that building to your right. It's longer, but much nicer to walk along. And I don't see any enemies close to that route, at least not yet, she called down below, trying to help.

He looked at Kit, then at Urson and said, "Well, enough rest time, we better get a move on." he lead them to the building Phalynx had indicated and went inside. The building was dark and very musty, a sign of disuse. He walked in, his mattok at the ready and silently walked through.

IC: Phal watched with concern as her friends took the route she had suggested, feeling responsible for them; if anything went wrong it was her fault. She blinked in surprise and turned to look at Shyara, at first not quite sure why she lingered on that topic. She finally laughed, amused that she still wanted to know more. Well right now it's kind of a broad spectrum. I know quite a few of the male dragons in Alagaesia. And like I said, I've never really thought about any of them as a potential mate, so I'm not sure who specifically, she replied with a smile. Phal's mind was drifting, starting to wonder who would make a good mate, but she forced it to stay focused on the task at hand. Right now her friends had a clear street ahead, but that could change quickly. IC: Ranog continued to walk in the building. He came to a particuarly creepy place and heard snoring. It was loud, and partially muffled. He made a sign to Urson to stop where he was and walked ahead. The old stone floor allowed the heavy-set dwarf to creep about un-noticed toward the hidden figure. He continued his silent march toward "it", the snores getting louder and louder, until it was almost unbearable. Then, he rounded a corner and saw a fat old ogre, a female, laying next to a smouldering fire. He snuck over next to her and bashed her over the head with his mattok. Re: Below Alagaesia Phal's attention snapped to the two-legs below when she saw Ranog moving quickly towards a large, sleeping shape. She frowned when he knocked out the ogre and raced back to Kit. What do you wish to learn from an ogre? she asked, curious. What else did they need to know? True, it would be interesting to learn more about the ogres and their involvement in the capture of Arkel, and possibly what was really going on around here... but did they really need to. Phal sighed, realizing her curiosity had surfaced at a bad time.

He had wasted more than enough time down here and had yet to find that ruby he had been after. He stomped back to the sensless monstrocity of a ogre and began to haul her back up out of the building.

Re: Below Alagaesia Phal watched the proceedings with interest, wondering what everyone would decide. She was curious to know what the ogre could tell them, but Kit was right. They could interrogate her later. Hold on a moment, she said, pulling in her wings and gripping the ogre around the middle. I'll put her up on this building so no one accidentally walks into her, the dragon said, beating her wings powerfully to lift herself and her cargo backwards up the building. With a few more strenuous flaps, she had dragged the ogre onto the roof, paused for a moment to catch her breath, and then flapped back to the top of the cave. There. The most clear path is straight ahead, but start angling toward your right after about a hundred yards, she said, still panting slightly.

Re: Below Alagaesia Ranog sighed, somewat exasperatedly(did I make up a word??) and walked in the direction told him by Phalynx. He was tired of being down here and if they didn;t find him soon, Arkel was just in a bad spot, Ranog would only go so far to help this "thing" that he had barely met. He had no time to wast on those who were incapible to helping themselves.

Re: Below Alagaesia Kit sighed and followed after Ranog, taking Phal's directions. Soon the ground slanted down hill, then ended abruptly into a solid wall. "That's stupid," Kit said aloud, "Having a hallway end suddenly with no place to go."
He leaned his back against the wall the blocked them. It suddenly gave way and Kit fell backward then down a flight of spirally stairs. When he hit the bottom, he laid there for a few minutes unable to move. She extended her mind rapidly towards Kit, the equivalent of opening her mouth in preparation to speak, but was too late to warn him before he fell through the wall and tumbled down the stairs. Phal winced when he hit the bottom. Um, yeah... I was gonna tell you guys about those... the dragon said sheepishly. She folded her wings and dove to the street, landing next to Ranog and peering down the stairs.

Oh, man that was funny, that made my day, the look on his face haw haw haw!" said the dwarf as he walked down the stairs, he began to help Kit up saying, "I am so ... so hehehehehehehehe sorry, sorry. Can't help it, the look on your face was priceless!" laughed the dwarf as he held out his hand for the human to grab so he could help him up.

She was concerned for Kit, but did find it somewhat amusing that he had fallen straight through the wall in such comical fashion. She felt laughing would be rude, though, especially if he was hurt. Arkel could hear voices and sounds from down the corridor, and instantly he hated the persons making it. He knew it was probably someone who could help him, but he hated them anyway. Re: Below Alagaesia Phal followed after the dwarf and human, her bulk managing to fit in the hallway. She had to lower her head dramatically and keep her wings tight, but it worked. She began to get more anxious as they traversed down the dark corridor. Dark magic permeated the air here, making it hard to see some areas. The darkness was like a fog. A few ogres ambled along inside, but none were close or approaching them. This is a dark place. The magic seems far too advanced for an ogre; someone else is behind it, and they are most likely quite powerful, Phal said, eyeing their surroundings with disdain.

Re: Below Alagaesia Ranog whistled lowly, a signal for Urson to retreat. The feldunost ran over and stood beside Shyara, the safest place to be, well, down here at least. The dwarf then continued to lead the way down the tunnel, and as he walked, he become more and more anxious and nervous. He could feel the breaths of something. He held his mattok at the ready, and his "fists of steel" had the shary steel points on them. He was ready for whatever it was ... or so he thought. He rounded the corner and yelled is warcry.

Re: Below Alagaesia Phal glanced back into the narrow space behind her. We'll be back in a couple minutes, Shyara. There's a room ahead... she said before turning back to follow the others. As Ranog and Kit disappeared into the other room, Phal roared in pain as she felt something slice along her ribs. Her wing jerked involuntarily from her side, and she felt it smack against an ogre, sending it flying back into the room it came from. Phal backed herself up and sent a blast of fire into the other room. The ogres she had seen had not been this close. They must have run up behind them when she was focusing on the path ahead. She hoped the others had not encountered anything too dangerous in the other room.

Re: Below Alagaesia Kit jerked out his blade as the ogre came back with Ranog. "Why don't you eat some of this?" Kit ran toward the ogre, but was knocked to the ground by it's huge hand. It moved forward and raised its foot to step on him. As the foot came down, Kit angle his blade and rolled out of the way; the stepped on the sword and shoved it completely up its leg.
Its eyes became huge, then it squealed like small girl. It let go of Ranog and grabbed its foot while hopping up and down. The ogre fell back against the wall and Kit ran to get his sword; the Ogre was in to much pain to notice. Kit jumped up, grabbed the hilt, twisted it in a quarter circle, and ripped it out. Another blood-curdling scream echoed down the hall. Shyara slammed wall, trying to reach the others, but it absolutely would not budge. She felt something hit her neck, on the soft side. She looked down trying to see it, but she could bent enough. She reached with her fore-claw and found it and pulled it out. It was a dart of somesort, and it smelled funny. She stuck her tongue out and licked the tip, instantly it went numb and hung out of her mouth. She felt three more sharp, short pains in her neck and jerked around. An ogre was standing at the end of the hall she was in and had a blow gun to his mouth. She roared at him, but it sounded funny because of her tongue. Then she felt weird and suddenly she had no control of her neck and her head fell to the floor and she couldn't move it. Re: Below Alagaesia Phal saw that ogres had ran into the other room as well, and her friends were already being attacked. She glanced back into the room to the side, and seeing only dead, burnt ogres, turned away and raced forward. She opened her jaws and let out a loud roar, grabbing an ogre by its head with her teeth. She gave a powerful shake of her jaws and ripped its head off, spitting it out with disgust. She launched herself at another beast and tore her foreclaws down its chest.
As she was fighting, she looked back up to the surface and saw that Shyara was being attacked. Her neck was limp, and Phal froze in shock. She hissed and began running back down the hallway. With a powerful spring of her hind legs, she jumped up the stairs and breathed out a massive gust of flame over her niece and at the ogres behind her. Phal saw the blowdarts poking out of Shyara's scales, and pulled the remaining ones out. Don't worry, Shyara. I'll keep them off us, she said encouragingly, letting out another blast of flame. Re: Below Alagaesia Ranog grasped hsi bruised throat in pain. He gasped for air, and when he could breathe again, pulled out his bow. He shot one of the ogres in the eye, all the while yelling, "YAH! takew that you lilly-livered scum, I'll teach you you sons of dogs!" yeled the dwarf angrily as he attacked the ogres.

When the Ogre hit top speed his put his head down which had a leather, spiked helmet covering it. Kit held his ground against a solid rock wall till the last second, then he jumped out of the way. There was a horrible crunching and popping sound as blood and brain matter were splattered down Kit's back. Re: Below Alagaesia Phal laughed at Shyara, keeping up her fire. Well, unfortunately now is not a good time to move you. You're just gonna have to trust me to watch your back, she said lightly, hoping to keep the mood from sinking. Fights could easily lower one's morale, and Phal wanted to keep them from anger or desperation. The ogres above the tunnel were thinning now. Phal was not taking her attention away from the tunnel behind her, though. She kept her tail in constant motion, whipping back and forth so fast that anyone who came near it would get bones broken. The light coming from her scales would also make it hard to get any kind of productive shot at her.

Re: Below Alagaesia Urson continued to fight, but gradually, the immense strength and size of the ogres was pushing him back. He was now in the hallway, and was not showing and signs of slowing down. He was bleeding and bruised badly and said to Kit, "Hey mate, may want to come back here, else we will get killed, best be gettin your back to a wall, cause these guys will hit you in the back, already happened to me, heh, blighter grabbed ym by the scruff o' the neck and threw me about like a rag doll, we need to get in close quarters where we can both attack them, but they can come at us only one at a time."

You're supposed to be watching them, not my back. You can look at it some other time. Arkel could hear the fighting down the hall, and his anger had been grown, but now it broke. He let his dragon soul take charge of the body, something rarely done by even the oldest of Lords. He strength soared to dragonic, and he jerked the pins holding the chains to the walls and ground out. He stepped off the small raised platform he was on started for the hall. Are you feeling able to move, yet? she replied to Shyara, sending out silver, fiery missiles at longer intervals, now. Very few ogres were going towards the, compared to earlier. Hopefully this would give Shyara an opportunity to recover safely. A tremendous roar suddenly shook the ground, and dust fell from the ceiling. Phal glanced back briefly in alarm, and saw someone headed towards the hallway below. It was Arkel.

I would be very appreciative." said the dwarf sarcastically as he didged a massive fist as it came through the air at his head. He heard a scream and looked at the hand to see that it was broken. He smiled and said, "Thats why you never attack me!" and killed it with a slicing motion with hsi mattok causing it's guts to fall out.

Kit was glad when Arkel came around the tunnel, but quickly changed his mind when he saw the look in his eyes. He was changed, for the worse it looked. Arkel's dragon soul remembered these two-legs as friends, as well as the two dragons that were above the tunnel. The Ogres, however, were enemies. The dragon spoke, "Stay back," and anyone could tell this was NOT Arkel. He grabbed the chains, just where the came off his wrists and pulled them back. He swung them forward toward the closest Ogre, the metal turned white hot as it swung. It wrapped around its target, causing his to scream in pain. I need to concentrate to do anything. And that was Arkel. I think something's very wrong with him, she replied in a worried voice. She noticed that the ogres above the tunnels had changed course, and were not attacking them at the moment. Phal used the opportunity to examine Shyara. The poison was slowly working its way through her, blocking the signals from her nerves to her muscles. Oh, okay, that shouldn't be hard to fix, Phal remarked, beginning work. She started with her friend's neck, and worked her way down until the dragoness was free to move. The whole process took a few minutes, during which time Arkel started to fight the ogres.
There. You might still be shaky and uneven, but it'll wear off, Phal said with a grin, feeling just a little dizzy from the concentration and effort. That would wear off too, though. He thought to himself, Something is wrong, I need to stay at least a small distance away from him, and so does Urson... He looked at Kit and said, "Do you sense something, ... different about Arkel, I mean he seems more blood thirsty." said the dwarf as he rested, seeing that Arkel had the ogres under control. The dwarf sighed and sat back against the wall of the small cavern. He said, "You ok up there, Phalynx, do you need some help?"

He's a different race, the oldest being I know of in Alagaësia. Maybe something in this ancient place has activated a dark part of him." Arkel? Good they found him and we can leave. Shyara felt like thousands of needles were being stuck in her as Phalynx worked. Thanks, I feel better now I can move. As she spoke Shyara could feel her whole body lean side to side. She reached out with her mind to find everyone and recoiled once she touched Arkel's mind. It was dragonic, very dragonic. She had always felt it when she had touched him mind before, but now it was dominate, the consciousness's name was Hearth, not Arkel. She could see the more draconic magic about it, and he seemed different enough for her to tell. Arkel, or whatever your name is, are you alright? Phal called tentatively towards the two-leg. She glanced briefly at Ranog when he asked if she was okay. We're fine, Ranog. I think the dragon has taken control of Arkel's body now, though, she said worriedly.

Hearth didn't pay attention to Kit's words, except to say, "I am not Arkel." The left over Ogres were retreating for now, and Arkel/Hearth was continuing his attack even so. "Stop it, there are leaving! Knock it off!" After a few more tried it was appearent he was not stopping. Kit pulled his sword out again and threw into the wall, less than an inch from his face, "Dammit I said QUIT!!" Hearth turned toward Kit, fire in his eyes. "Nobody stops me!!" Re: Below Alagaesia Phal decided that the situation above was clear. She turned around rather awkwardly and then headed down the tunnel towards her friends. She jerked in alarm as she saw Arkel snap his chains at Kit for trying to stop him. She rushed forward and intercepted the attack with her tail, keeping the magic from hurting her but receiving a few painful welts from the strong heat. Just relax for a moment, she said calmly, trying to soothe the dragon with her mind. So you are the dragon that has resided within yours and Arkel's bodies? What is your name? And why have you taken control? she asked, keeping her voice gentle and even in an attempt to get his mind from battling.

He held his mattok by the edge of the handle, and by the blade, in an attempt to stop the chains, but luckily Phalynx came in and stopped the chains. He yelled and stepped in front of Kit and said, "Back off, I'll not have ye killin your friends." said the dwarf in a dangerously low voice.

Re: Below Alagaesia When the big silver dragon stopped Arkel's attack, he realized what he had almost done. Friends, must not hurt friends, he repeated to himself before he answered Phalynx's questions. "My name is Hearth, and I am the dragon half-soul of Arkel. He allowed me too, as that is the only way to do it, because he was a prisoner and could not free ourselves. I did not mean to hurt you, I am not trained in self-control as you. Please, let me bring Arkel to the surface, and you shall not see me again.
Kit barely had time to react when Hearth turned on him, but thankfully, Phal stopped the attack and seemed to have successfully diverted the rage. Shyara moved to the edge where the stairs had been only moments ago, but now lied in ruin, and watched the scene below. Things seemed to be going okay for now. Farewell, she said with an incline of her head. She watched as the magic around their mind shifted, chaging to a less potent presence and a different form. It was Arkel's magic. Phal watched as Arkel finished retaking control. Arkel? Are you alright? You've been freed, she said a little tentatively, unsure of how he would react.

She narrowed her eyes when she noticed the turmoil of his magic. The more dragonish magic from earlier was fighting his current magic. I think something has happened to Arkel! Hearth is fighting for control, she said, watching him warily. We may all have to leave, Phal added, a little nervous. Re: Below Alagaesia Phal shook her head. You're certainly not going to stay and distract him, Ranog. We're all going, before something terrible happens. Once Arkel and Hearth have settled things, we can come back. But for now we're all in danger while they're at conflict, she said. She slowly backed away from the body of the pair, wondering who would win and what the winner would do. When Kit spoke and Shyara added her input, Phal growled and turned to them. We're all getting out of here alive, got it? I'll make sure of it, she said fiercely, unwilling to think of any one of them getting killed, especially by someone they had thought was their friend. She wanted desperately to stay and try to help Hearth and get Arkel back to normal, but she knew that there were too many of them, and she wouldn't risk losing her friends and family to help one. They had to leave. There are many tunnels out of here, but we will have to hurry if we want to get to them. Arkel may yet catch us in the city, she said quietly, moving with the others up the stairs and into the main city above.

 IC: Phal hurried ahead, making sure her friends were with her. Well, you're still not going to stay behind for any distractions, Ranog. We can beat him out. But I think taking an different way would be wiser, since he will not know where we are going unless he sees us go. I saw a side tunnel going off from the way I came in, and I'm pretty sure it leads down here. Once I'm closer I'll be able to see it, and then we can escape in secrecy if all goes well, she suggested. She didn't really like Ranog's other offer, that Shyara fly below her to block her out. She knew it was wise, but didn't want her niece to get injured in what was essentially a guard-position for herself. I hate to think we would leave hi free to escape at any time, and attack the dwarves above here. We will have to try to cave in the tunnels, as far as we can to keep both him, and the remaining ogres in here. If they get out, there is no telling the damage they would, and could do. They could kill most all dwarves up there before we could stop them. What can we do?" asked the dwarf nervously as he rode after the others and anxiously looked back at the city, hoping that Arkel did not persue them.

Re: Below Alagaesia Phal was listening mentally to Ranog's words as she flew, and decided to send back her own thoughts. He had a good point. For now we should get out of the open, and into the tunnels. There are many, many passages leading out of here. If we want to collapse all of them, it will be a challenge, but you're right that we should try, she replied, glancing around. There seemed to be too many ways out of here for them to close off them all. However, they were not addressing one of Phal's main concerns. If Arkel lost control, shouldn't they try to help him? Something had happened to him, to make him like this, and Phal wanted to try and set things right. She didn't like the thought of abandoning a friend in need, even if he would try to kill her.

Re: Below Alagaesia The war inside Arkel was becoming hazardous for the body. It constantly changed back and forth between man and dragon. Arkel was the stronger of the two, Hearth could still be considered a new born, his control of the body was very limited in it's human form, and wasn't all that much more in the dragon considering Arkel's power.

There, only I and Kit will be able to effectively fight him, and though we are strong, our power does not compare with that of Arkel, in either form." said the dwarf as he rode toward one of the smaller tunnels that seemed to go straight down. He observed the side of it and looked at the runes carved in it. He kept reading until he said, "In here, lets go in here. It should help us to get out, or at least get us to another tunnel, and further from Arkel, as well as the ogres." said the dwarf as he waited beside the entrance and waited for the others to go inside.

Re: Below Alagaesia Phal nodded to Ranog, knowing what he meant. She was not a bad fighter on the ground, but she was at a disadvantage. Especially in a very small tunnel. She had fought in tunnels before, quite often even, and didn't like it. Phalynx was built for the skies, or at least for out in the open.
The silver dove down to the tunnel the dwarf was standing next to. It ran into the rocky wall where it mixed with a latticework of other tunnels, all running in confusing patterns like a spider's web. That will do. But we must be careful; this tunnel is joined to a web-work of other tunnels, and they look very unstable. It would not take much to collapse these ones, so we must hurry, Phal said, telling her friends what she knew. Re: Below Alagaesia "Alright," Kit said, "let's get out of here." Kit followed closely behind Phalynx as she entered the tunnel, it was near solid black for his eyes, and he didn't want to start up a light, for fear of being exposed.
I'll bring up the rear, a dragon in front and behind ought to help out chances a little. Re: Below Alagaesia Ranog nudged Urson and the two of them walked into the tunnel after Phalynx, but before Shyara. He offered Kit a hand and said, "Want a ride, from what I can tell, you may want to get a rest, especially if we will have to end up caveing in these caves." said the dwarf as he rode with the others. He looked about, and seeing their need for a light, casted a small spell and a small red werelight appeared beside him. He said, "Better to have a light to see where I am going than to not have one and avoid enemies who may, or may not be there." said the dwarf as the werelight moved in front of both himself and Kit, but also gave enough light for Shyara to see them clearly, Phalynx, with her abilities obviously did not need it.

Re: Below Alagaesia Phal nodded to Shyara, vowing mentally to keep checking on the area behind her niece as they went. She wasn't sure if Arkel had moved or not, and if he would come after them if he did. She stepped into the dark tunnel, keeping her gaze focused on the turns ahead. She was already scanning the weblike system, looking for the fastest and safest way out of the network and into a better tunnel. Some of the shorter routes were caved in or looked too unstable to head into. Phal had to decide quickly though, as there were many tunnels and the group was moving quickly. She also glanced behind them and around them occasionally so they would not be surprised by anything in the darkness.

He could also tell this by how thick the air was. He said, "Soon, we will need to be moving upward rather than down, else we will becoem weak from lack of fresh oxygen." said the dwarf as he, Urson, and his small red werelight followed the silvery dragoness further in.

Re: Below Alagaesia Phal nodded, realizing this suddenly for herself. She had an unusually efficient air system (one of her many advantages in high-altitude flying), so she had barely noticed that the air was getting harder to breathe in. There is a patch of caved-in tunnels around us; once we are past them we can start up, she replied quietly, already seeing and taking note of the passages they would take. After a few turns down narrow hallways, the tunnel bent up in a slow ascent. Phal picked up her pace, seeing that the way was easier now, with more clear space ahead. A small tremor beneath her claws made her hurry more. A cloud of dust fell from the ceiling as a result of the tremor; Phal wanted to get out of the unstable tunnels before another cave-in occurred. This area seemed full of them.

Shyara didn't like the small tunnels and she felt rather unsafe herself as her wings scraped along the walls, leaving a blood trail from the tears in her skin created by the rough rock. Shush, we shouldn't make more vibrations than an ant! Shyara said with a good edge in her voice. Okay, somebody's on edge. Shyara grabbed Kit's collar in her teeth and picked him. Okay, okay. I'm Sorry, Kit said while he choked. Re: Below Alagaesia Ranog cursed out loud, and Urson bleeted loudly as the feldunost's left hindleg fell through a hole in the fragile floor of the tunnel. They, however managed to pull the feldunost's leg out of the hole and continued onward. The dwarf finally came to a fork in the tunnel, there were three different directions through which they could go. He said, "So, which way do you guys want to go? We can go three different ways, and all of the would probably take us out of here, so what direction do you want to go in, I ask because they are not likely to be as strong as the tunnel we were in earlier, meaning they would probably not hold all of us. So, Phalynx, you choose, Kit, Shyara, you choose, and Urson and I will take the one not chosen." said the dwarf as he waited patiently for the others to choose.

Re: Below Alagaesia Phal paused before the three entrances. She knew that if they split up, in addition to the tunnels being less sturdy, there would be less chance of them being caught. If one of them were caught, however, they would be on their own. I will take the left, she said immediately. She could see that the left tunnel had many misleading side tunnels and unstable areas, places her friends wouldn't be able to see or locate as easily. It was also the longest tunnel; Phal wanted to make sure she could always see her friends ahead of her in the side tunnels. If any of you gets in trouble, there are side tunnels in the left that I can get through to you with, she said. They were blocked off from the other tunnels by cave-ins, but Phal could get past that if her friends were in trouble.

He and Urson rode in silence for a time, then Ranog began to talk to the intelligent feldunost. He said, "What should we do, leave the monsters down there and escape, or go back and make sure they never get out?" The feldunost said, I am not sure, but I will go with you wherever you go...

Re: Below Alagaesia Phalynx snorted at Ranog when he didn't finish his statement on if they didn't meet. I'll make sure we'll all make it, she muttered under her breath, eyes narrowing in determination. She let her friends head in first, and then trotted carefully into the left tunnel, keeping her footsteps light. The floor was unstable and laced with cracks, so Phal moved quickly and kept her wings spread just enough to lessen her weight on the stone floor. She kept her eyes angled slightly to the right in order to watch the blurry shapes of her friends as they navigated their own tunnels. Phal made sure to keep her friends within sight at all times. She had to glance around occasionally to make sure nothing could sneak up on her as well; there were many small side tunnels, and some of the cracks were quite large. Creatures could be lurking within them, ready to attack.

Re: Below Alagaesia Kit walked right next to Shyara's head as she moved through the tunnel. It was a tight squeeze for her, but she didn't complain.
Shyara was somewhat clausterphobic, but kept her mind focused on staying on the right path and making out of the tunnels. What are we going to do about Arkel? I don't know if Hearth wins this internal conflict then everything will be okay I think, but if Arkel wins, with he being as tainted as he is it is hard to believe that he will ever turn back to us. I mean did you see the blackness in his eyes, I'd bet that is a bad as Galbatorix is. Re: Below Alagaesia Ranog looked at Urson, then continued to ride up the tunnel. However, he put some, not a lot, but some of his energy into a small gem, a sapphire from what eh could tell in the darkness of the tunnel, and planned to use it to cave-in the tunnel once he and Urson were out. Hopefully, if everythign went well, it would collpase all three tunnels, and likely block the only escape routes from the underground city. He also had it to kill anything that was folowing him. He would not let the dwarves outside get killed.

Re: Below Alagaesia Phal kept moving quickly through the dark tunnel, wary every time she came across an especially large crack or deep tunnel. Nothing was inside, though. She sighed, wondering if they were really doing the right thing. She wanted to go back, and lend Hearth her strength so that he could win the battle. Something was terribly wrong with Arkel, and if he took control, then surely he would turn evil. That seemed to be what was happening, at least. Phal wanted her friends to escape safely, but she wanted to go back. A sudden crack came to her attention, and she stopped dead in her tracks. She heard something rub against stone, something hard. She traced the sound to the next large crack, and she immediately saw something lurking inside. It was fairly large, and fairly insect-like. It looks almost like a giant cave spider, she thought, watching as the creature stayed perfectly still in its crack, unaware that it had been spotted. It probably eats the trolls down here, Phal mused. She looked around for a way to bypass it. No use getting into a fight; the creature wasn't bothering her and she respected its right to live, even if it was rather creepy-looking.

Me either, let's hurry through this stuff. Shyara glanced ahead. Look at that! Up ahead was large skeleton of an Ogre completely surrounded in the sticky threads. Crawling around the skeleton were large black spiders. Kit, I think I know what this stuff is. The theory hit Kit about the same time, and he took it as truth. "But these are just," he squished one and it popped like a balloon of water across the web, "Small spiders compared to what would be need to make webs this size." Maybe between them all, there has got to be thousands of them, they created this. "I don't think so. Let's just go though, at least the tunnel has gotten alot bigger, we can move faster." There was plob just behind Shyara. "We didn't pass and wet spots did we?" Re: Below Alagaesia Ranog continued to ride ahead, not really paying attention to what was ahead of them, but worrying about what was behind both himself and his feldunost. However, he remembered to pay attention a second too late. Urson bounded forward with all the speed, and grace of his kind, but was stopped in midair by a large, sticky, and quite foul spelling rope. Ranog cursed with fright as their forward progress was halted immediately and left both the dwarf and the feldunost hanging helplessly in a large web. He heard a clocking behind him, then saw the mother of all spiders, a giant, large enough to eat him in one go. The dwarf began a long stentance of nothing but cursewords and began to writhe about in an attempt to get at his mattok, spear, or in the least get Urson free...

Re: Below Alagaesia Phalynx jerked her head back involuntarily as the cave-spider jolted itself forward, coming out and over the edge of the crack. It seemed to be able to move as fast (comparitively) as normal, small spiders. Phal raised one forefoot slowly from the ground and drew it backward, wondering if the spider would notice. It did. With a loud clack of pincers, it darted forward again. Phal scrambled back, almost unable to bring up a large stream of starfire in time to stop the horrifyingly fast creature. She heard several loud pops and sizzles, and the flames cleared to reveal the creature's smoldering body. Parts of its outer exoskeleton had cracked open in the heat, resulting in a rather unpleasant mess. Phal jerked her head around as she heard a series of clicking noises coming from the nearby tunnels. Apparently, more spiders had been attracted by the momentary flash of light. Great, that's just what I need right now, she thought, inching forward past the carcass of the dead spider and hopping over the crack before any more came out of it. She could hear them coming, and desired to get as far along the tunnel as possible before the arachnids caught up with her.

Re: Below Alagaesia The liquid dripped from the fangs of giant spider. It was huge, about a third the size of Shyara. It had a large red hourglass pattern on its abdomen.
Shyara didn't have enough room to turn and face the spider. The spider moved forward, slowly, menacingly. Kit threw a bright flash of light right in front the eyes of the spider. It screeched, and backup. "Move!" Kit yelled. Shyara unleashed a huge torrent of flame to clear the sticky webs out of their path. Shyara kept the flame up as she rushed tunnel and Kit kept throwing light balls at the spider. The tunnel widens up ahead, hit the ground as soon as we hit that. Okay. Kit threw another ball then dove to the side and the ground as Shyara jerked around. Shyara engulfed the tunnel she had just come from in a blazing red flame. Shyara focused her flame into a small stream of flame that turned white. There was a loud sizzling sound, then a massive pop. Hot blood and puss exploded all over Kit and Shyara. Re: Below Alagaesia Ranog continued to writhe about, getting parts of himself free, while entangling other parts even more. He yelled angrily and finally got one arm free to swing at the spider. He hit it squarely in the face and sent it some two meters back, where it hissed and squealed angrily. Urson, by this time was panicking. The feldunost busked and leapt aobut wildly. It kicked the monster spider in the face with its long hindlegs and knocked it out cold. This, Ranog used to his advantage. He casted a powerful spell to cause a bright light to stay in-between them and the unconscious spider. Then he began to try to get out of the web.

Re: Below Alagaesia Phalynx darted ahead, burning thick strands of spiderweb as they appeared before her. The tunnel was growing more narrow, and numerous side tunnels gaped threateningly to each side. Dozens of eight-grouped eyes peered out of the darkness, and Phal could see the forms of the gigantic spiders. She heard their legs tapping against the ground, their fangs clicking together. Finally, they were in the tunnel in front of her; coming up quickly from the back. The silver let out a powerful burst of flame, and the spiders ahead fell back if they survived at all. The ones in the center of the tunnel fell to the ground, writhing as they were consumed in silver flame. Phal jerked her tail to the side instinctively and felt it crush the body of a spider against the wall; a spider that had been about to bite her. She twisted her head around and sent back another burst of fire. More starfire cleared the path ahead, and Phal sprang forward. I must escape into a side tunnel! There are too many openings for them here! she thought, searching for a side tunnel that had no side openings. The clicking sound of spider-legs echoed behind her, growing closer with every instant.

I don't know. Shyara touched Phal's mind and Ranog's. They are both stuck in the tunnels, and this- Shyara was cut off as another loud crack ripped through the tunnel. The tunnel behind them began collapsing. "Run!" Kit and Shyara moved as fast as possible forward as more and more rock began coming down. What's that sound? "Look bats," Kit said, not even hearing Shyara's question. Re: Below Alagaesia Ranog sighed happily when he finally got through the web, however the dwarf cursed loudly when he saw that the spider they had knocked out was awake and now fully functional. The spider mad a mad dash at the dwarf and feldunost, but was repelled by the punches and the heavy iron spear of the dwarf. Ranog said, "You would know that we would pick the one ruby in the one spot where we would fall into an ancient city full of ogres, that would somehow turn a powerful bring from good to evil, then on our way out get caught in a trap by giant spiders, you would just know that would happen to us!" said the dwarf, then he yelled a long sentance that contained words that would make an urgal's hair stand on end then he speared the spider and began to walk away. Then he swirfly turned around and ran back because of the spiders that were coming in from that direction.

Re: Below Alagaesia Phalynx finally located a side tunnel, clear of spiders and webs for the extent she could see. However, it was still quite a distance ahead, and the passage was blocked by thick webs. The dragoness roared and sent a massive burst of fire forward to clear the way, and then jumped just in time to avoid a spider that had been dangerously close to her tail. She began racing ahead, scanning the ground rapidly to avoid stepping on weak areas. Unfortunately, the spiders were not as careful. She heard a loud crack behind her, and then several crashing and crumbling noises as spiders fell through the cracks they had made in the floor. The cracks spread and Phal could feel them under her hind feet. The crumbling increased, and she knew the floor was collapsing behind her. She roared in fear as she felt the ground beneath her start to give way, and stumbled as one hind foot broke through into a hole. She could see the escape tunnel just ahead, and leapt forward.
Her leap was not enough, though. Her front legs and shoulders hit the solid floor, but her hindquarters fell into empty space, and she scrabbled desperately for purchase with her hind claws. Suddenly, the ground under the front half of her body was webbed with cracks, and it abruptly collapsed beneath her. Phal's roar of fear was cut short as she hit the ground, but it was steeply slanted and coated in slippery rubble, and she began to slide, unable to grip the ground with her talons. She cried out as her tail was thrust into empty space, and latched down with her claws as hard as she could. Finally, her foreclaws gripped into the cave floor, and her hind limbs were sent into empty space again. Phal's tail was tangled in something that felt horribly like spiderweb, and she began trying to climb back up, kicking out with her back legs but finding them coated in spiderweb too. Shyara began bouncing forward like a gazelle to get out faster. She took a deep breath of the fresh mountain air when they were free. Her joy was short lived, however, when they look around for the Phalanx, Ranog, and Urson. I don't see any other tunnels! "I'm sure there are more somewhere, we just have to find them." Re: Below Alagaesia Ranog and Urson now found themselves running for their lives as fast as possible back the way that they came, back toward the ogres and Arkel. Ranog was, by now so furious he would love to fight an ogre, rather than these monster spiders. He turned to knock one head over thorax backward with a punch from his "fists of steel". He looked wildly for a place to escape. He found it in the form of a small side tunnel. He and Urson ran inside and the dwarf used his mattok and fists of steel to cause rocks to fall behind them and cover the entrance to their safe-house.

Re: Below Alagaesia Phal roared and sent a blast of silver fire behind her to clear her hind limbs and tail of spider web. As she did, she revealed something horrendous. The back and eyes of a monstrous spider, as big as herself, lurking at the bottom of the pit and inching closer. Phal hissed in fear and a sudden rush of adrenaline coursed through her limbs. She dug her foreclaws into the tunnel, gripping the solid rock beneath the outer rubble, and pulled with all her strength. In one massive heave, she got her back legs onto the ledge and thrashed her tail for balance. Finding all four feet on solid ground again, she began to claw her way up the tunnel, forced to take it slowly because of the slippery rocks and dirt. Behind her, she heard a loud rustling as the gargantuan spider rose up toward the tunnel. She heard a clicking sound, and felt the tunnel vibrate as it placed its legs inside it. Forcing herself to stay calm, Phal kept going, trying very hard not to start running.

Re: Below Alagaesia Ranog sighed with relief as the scratching ceased from the other side of the rocks. He looked at Urson who was stunned with fright. He said, "It will be ok, we just gotta get outside with the others, then everything will be alright." said the dwarf as he led the still stunned feldunost deeper into the side tunnel. Ht was very small, but somehow the dwarf and the feldunost managed to crawl through it and come out on a ledge in the middle of a rather large cavern. The dwarf growled as he saw large lumbering creatures moving slowly about the gloom. Ogres.....why did it have to be ogres? thought the dwarf as he led the feldunost along the ledge away from the ogres.

Re: Below Alagaesia Phal slowly made her way up the tunnel, making sure each foot was secure before moving the next one. If she started to slip, she could fall right into the jaws of the enormous spider behind her. Finally, she made it to the ledge she had first fallen off of. She tensed the muscles of her hind legs, preparing to spring up. With a massive leap, the front half of her body made it onto the ledge. She gripped the sides of the tunnel with the thumbspikes on her wings, and pulled herself up and over the edge of the pit. She turned herself around to see the spider almost at the top of the tunnel. Heh. I'll show you to attack a dragon, she hissed, rather offended that this beast considered her its prey. She let out a massive burst of starfire, which broke stone and started a landslide of the rubble on the floor of the tunnel with its force. The spider was swept down among the rocks and dirt, and the tunnel was eventually caved in completely. Phal turned and began heading up the side-tunnel with a satisfied snort. She could see the tunnel along most of its length now, including a branch that led out of the smaller tunnels and into one of the main ones. Hopefully everyone else will be waiting for me, Phal thought, speeding into a trot.

Re: Below Alagaesia The tunnels would've spread out, so we need to go east and try and find the opening. Shyara waited till Kit was securely on her back then got up a few wingbeats off the ground.
She hurried east searching for exits but it was difficult. The whole time they had been inside, they relied on Phalynx's seeing ability to guide them, but it was just the two of them. Re: Below Alagaesia Ranog and Urson made their way along the narrow trail that sloped toward the ground below them with caution. The rocks were very loose and the ogred beneath them would surely see them if ever they looked up. Ranog tenderly placed one foot in front of the other as they walked, careful not to let the slightest pebble to move out of place. Their lives depended on it. Finally, the two of them made it to the floor below. They were exhausted, but they were not yet done. They still had to traverse the entire sub-terranian(sp?) city and climb up and out of the hole they had entered by. So they began...

Re: Below Alagaesia Phal took the turn that lead to the main tunnel, her pace quickening when she saw a large heat signature. It soon separated into two of them, one large and dragon-shaped and one small and upright. The two figures, obviously Kit and Shyara, were off to the side, down in a maze of smaller tunnels. Phal got as close as she could and then started searching for a way to reach them. So I know how to get us into the main tunnel... but where are Ranog and Urson? she wondered. The dwarf and his Feldunost friend were the only ones missing now. Phal finally located a small tunnel (barely large enough for her to squeeze through) that would get her to Shyara and Kit. She scrambled into it, her smooth scales letting her slip through quite easily, and emerged into a smaller passage. She began trotting again, eager to get within mind-speaking distance of her friends.

Re: Below Alagaesia Shyara had located a large honeycomb set of tunnels leading out of the mountain, some looked to small for even Kit to get in.
"Which one do you think we should try?" How about that one? Kit walked up to it and peered inside. He took a rock off the ground and hurled it into the darkness. "I suppose." The echo of the rock striking rock clambered back out to them and then another sound from one of the larger tunnels reached their ears. It sounded like it came from way inside the mountain and coming toward them. Kit drew his sword expecting another spider or ogre. Re: Below Alagaesia Ranoh and Urson quietly crept past the city and back toward the cave that they had entered by. When they made it there, Ranog cursed to himself. He had underestimated just how far the climb would be. He forgot that both he and Urson, as well as two dragon, and two more humanoid creatures had fallen through the fragile limestone. He sighed and pulled out his mattok. That would to as a makeshift pickaxe for the moment. He had to try to climb up so that he could pull Urson out and they could escape back to the surface.

Re: Below Alagaesia Phal trotted up the tunnel, now within mindspeaking distance of her friends. Hey, it's me, Phal! Stay where you are, and I'll get us to the main tunnel. Then we should probably find our dwarf friend and his Feldunost, she said into their minds, racing forward in her eagerness to join them. As soon as she rounded the last turn that would lead her to them, she let her scales glow dimly to reassure them that it was her. She approached them quickly, glad that she had caught them before they descended into the maze of tunnels before them. So did you two encounter any giant spiders? I think I, uh, "found" their nest, she remarked with a laugh as she joined Kit and Shyara.

"I don't know did we Shyara?" Kit asked sarcastically. Yes, we ran into a few. That's what is caked onto my scales. You're lucky to be alive if you found the nest! "Yeah. Anyway let's find Ranog, hopefully he hasn't had any incidents with spiders.
