Samantha (Semalina)
She popped into my head. I have a light plot for her. I Accept. Name: - Her real name that her parents called her was Semalina, Sema or Alina for short. The name she has given herself (because she remembers nothing of her parents) is Samantha, Sam or Sammy for short (she prefers Sam).
Age: - 1 1/2 years
Gender: - Female
Skills: - Water; Sam has a sensitivity to water. She is not a pure water dragon, in so many words. She can not control it directly. She can breath ice, though it is much weaker than a true water/ice originated dragon. She can breath underwater thanks to the small gills behind her ears, but her limit of ability to transfer water into oxygen maxes out after two days, if she is hiding or simply escaping from the world for a while. Once her time ends, she is forced to come up for fresh air or risk drowning. She must stay on land for an entire day before diving again. She also has a small healing ability with water. If someone is gravely injured, and they are laid or stood up within a body of water, and she is in the water with them, the wound will gradually close and heal. Depending on the severity of the injury, the amount of time and energy it takes can vary from very little and only a bit of fatigue, to nearly an entire hour and complete exhaustion. Usually she can only heal two or three at a time, also depending on the gravity of their wounds. She can heal herself, but unlike some healing abilities, hers is backwards. Healing herself actually takes more energy and concentration than healing someone else. In fact, she can barely heal a small gash on her own body without becoming almost unconscious. She also does extremely well in attacking, defending, and hunting in deep water. As well as all this, she can speak to dolphins in their own unique language, the strange clicks and squeals, but it is very rudimentary. More often than not she misinterprets their messages.
Race: - 1/4 Ice/Water Dragon; she doesn't know the rest of her heritage.
Hair: - Two slender, small curving horns that protrude from the back of her skull; one short horn that protrudes roughly a hands length from the tip of her snout.
Eyes: - Iridescent/pearl blue
Home Village: - Near the shore in Surda.
Parents: - Unknown
Siblings: - Unknown
Character Personality: - Sam is mostly cold and utterly bitter, much like the sea. She remembers nothing from her time in the egg, which is what makes her attitude so sour most of the time. She's never known compassion or love, except for what she feels toward herself. She is closed down and silent, as she really has no one to open up to in the first place. When she's in a good mood, and this is a rare thing to see or hear, she is very bubbly and constantly smiling, her pearl blue eyes glittering nonstop. She also laughs a lot when she's happy, either in small chortles or peeling bells that make you want to laugh along with her, even if your at the root of her laughter. A good way to get her into one of these moods is to lure her into water, any water. It doesn't always happen, as her black, stormy moods can some times last for several weeks, occasionally even months, though that is also rare. Around another dragon, though she hardly ever is due to their affiliation with fire, she is guarded and very wary. It takes a long time for her instinctual mistrust of others to fade, but once it does she is very warm and welcoming to them, if they can learn to overlook her 'mood swings' and her sometimes sharp or snippy comments. Underneath her hard outer exterior, she is actually quite kind. Her mood can be sour and dark, but it is mostly towards herself, rarely to those around her. Her instinctive reaction to protect is very subdued, but she will always help someone that asks for it. Her trust is hard earned, however, and if she is betrayed after she has given her trust to you, its better that you steer clear of her for a few years. Though young herself, if she comes across a dragonet hatchling, or even a fledgling like herself, she will protect it fiercely with her life, no matter the risk of death, if there is one.
Character History: - Sam hatched on the shores of Surda in an underwater cave. Her egg had washed up into the cave half a century ago, swept in by the strong currents of the sea. She had laid thus for fifty years, half-submerged in a shallow pool of water, until she abruptly felt the urge to move. She broke free of her confines and instantly explored her 'hatching ground'. Being the average inquisitive hatchling, she poked her nose into anything she could. Once while investigating the waters edge for something to eat, she went a bit too close and fell in. She had instinctively floundered about for a few moments, a deep terror of drowning set in her mind, when she found that she could still breath, though her entire body was by now completely submerged in the water. She was of course delighted by this discovery, and went about exploring the underwater world. She found a tunnel that led to the outside and into open waters. She was amazed by the space. She saw a strange shadow going across the water, and poked her head out to look at it. It seemed strange to her, but Sam instinctively knew that it was a twoleg human invention called a 'boat', or in this case, as it was rather large, a 'ship'. She avoided the humans, but studied them occasionally whenever they came out on the water to fish. She didn't try to contact them, for fear of being shunned or attacked. Months later (around four or five), still residing in her underwater cave, she was out hunting in the waters. Coming up with nothing so far, she was beginning to be frustrated. She caught sight of a squid; their meat had a rubbery feel to it, but it was filling. She darted for it, but the creature evaded her just in time. Enraged, she snorted as hard as she could. Ice shot from her nostrils and penetrated the squid, pinning it against a rock. Stunned, she quickly approached the injured prey and gave it the killing blow. After this episode she practiced with her ice breathe regularly, finding that she could send short bursts of ice from her nostrils, and longer streams from her mouth. Though she could only do this underwater, and unlike true ice, hers would melt much faster. Roughly another two months more passed, and by now she had come across a pod of dolphins and learned that she could communicate with them, however sparsely. Also she had begun to be curious of land. She rarely ever set foot on it, the bare exception being her underwater cave, but that was simply to rest and sleep. Most of the time she was in the water. So, urged on by curiosity, she emerged from the water hesitantly and onto land. Unfortunately, she was spotted by a group of sailors that mistook her as a sea serpent, due to her shimmery rainbow hide that resembled a fish. They attacked brutally with fire, daggers, and even a sword or two. She blacked out after they were all dead, either by her tooth or claw, or being drowned. Sam woke in her cave, unaware of how she'd gotten there. She also didn't notice the scar on her side until she tried to move to the water so she could hunt. She didn't remember receiving it, and she didn't know how it had gotten there. Once she got up the nerve to move past the pain of the scar, she got into the water. She paused as a strange tingling sensation took over her side, touching her scar wherever it marred her flesh. It hurt a bit less than before. She was able to function now, and she had also discovered her ability to heal. Now simply surviving, Samantha has become more and more bitter toward the outside world, angered and utterly frustrated at her inability to remember her time in the egg. She keeps mostly to herself in her cave, venturing out to hunt at night when the prey was getting ready to rest. She doesn't know it, but she's waiting for something to happen. Either to herself or just to happen in general, she is subconsciously unsure, but she is waiting. And every day that she waits, her mood turns blacker and even more bitter.
Weapons: - Ice breathe, claws, wings, tail, teeth.
Likes: - Water, cold places, people that understand her and leave her alone.
Dislikes: - Heat, fire, people that annoy and/or bother her.
Weakness: - Sam avoids the Hadarac vehemently for the heat. When near or surrounded by heat or warmth (such as a rather large fire or simply abnormally sunny or warm weather), she feels slow and lethargic. If she continues to stay near any kind of heat, the lethargy will grow heavier until she slips into a deep coma. In this coma she is completely vulnerable, and will only stir when placed in a cooler area or a body of water.
Fear: - Sam is terrified of fire. Some of it has to do with her origins as being part water/ice dragon, but mostly it is because she was badly burned by fire.
Animal Companions: - None
Character's Physical Description: - Sam is small, with a serpentine like shape. Her wings are fragile and just barely big enough to carry her weight in the air, though she rarely ever flies in favor of swimming. Her body is very thin and extremely willowy, allowing her great speed and dexterity in any kind of water. Her scales are light and translucent, covering a tougher under-skin that is a deep ocean colored green, though when she is wet from being in the water recently and she is standing in direct sunlight, her hide appears to shimmer in a rainbow like fashion (in other words her scales and under-skin are much like that of a fish). Down her back she has a web-like spine. At the base of her skull it starts at only a few inches, gradually growing out to nearly a foot on her back before shrinking again to a few inches at the end of her tail. Her ears, unlike her average fire breathing dragon cousins, are much like a deers, perked straight up and shaped vaguely like delicate flower petals. Behind each of her ears are the three gills that allow her to breath underwater. They are closed when on land, letting her breathe normally, but if her snout (aka nostrils) and/or head is submerged in water, they will flutter open like silk in a breeze. Along her right side, curling a grotesque, bright white path through her translucent scales and ocean green under-skin, is the fire scar. She was only a few months old when she received it. It curves from the hollow of her throat, splitting at her right foreleg to furrow over her shoulder and also to her underbelly, snarling across her side and even a part of her very thin swimming membrane on her wing. When it was fresh it wasn't just a line, but was a gaping scar that covered most of that side of her body. Now it has healed, mostly, though it still pains her from time to time if it gets touched by fire or becomes too close to a warm object. She quite honestly doesn't remember how she got it.
Dreams for the Future: - Find her parents if they are alive, and if she has any siblings and they are alive, to find them as well.
Reason for Dreams: - She is young, terribly alone, bitter, cold, and defiant. She just wants to have a family. To know what it feels like to be loved and cared for.
Alignment/side: - None. She knows of the war, but she takes no sides. She will if she is attacked, and then she will take arms against the side that struck at her, but otherwise she ignores the Empire, Surda, the Elves, and the Varden.
